Features

Overview: The SPSW-600-HTH dimmer brings very flexible lighting control to ordinary wallbox locations. It lets you set and recall lighting levels at the touch of a button, either at the dimmer itself or with the included wireless remote control. It uses your existing wiring, and is easy to install. It works with standard incandescent or halogen bulbs. It will NOT work with fluorescent lighting fixtures.

Remote Compatible: The Lutron dimmers will work with Lutron remotes as well as with many pre-programmed home theater remotes. In addition, the Lutron remotes use typical IR codes that are easily taught to learning remotes.

Construction: The dimmer module is very solidly constructed, with all electronics safely enclosed inside a clear plastic case. The front panel includes 7 LED level indicators, a large switch, a small toggle switch, and a FASS (Front Accessible Service Switch).

Easy Instructions sticker: Adhered to the wall plate is a label that explains how to turn lights on and off, and explains what the LEDs are for.

Large Switch:

• ON: Tap once to turn the lights ON to the preset level
• OFF: Tap again to turn the lights OFF
• FULL ON: Tap twice to turn the lights ON to full bright
• DELAYED OFF: Press and hold to activate delayed fade to OFF. As the switch is held, the LEDs will begin to flash. Each flashing LED represents 10 seconds of delay before the dimmer fades to OFF. The fade time can be set for up to 60 seconds). This is an especially cool feature, as it allows you to set the lights to fade to off after you have left the room.
• PRESET LEVEL: Tap 4 times quickly to set the current light level as the preset level. The LEDs will blink twice indicating the preset has been locked. To unlock the preset, tap the switch 4 times quickly. The LEDs will blink three times to indicate that the preset has been unlocked.

Small Toggle Switch:

• BRIGHTEN: Press the top half of the switch to brighten the lights.
• DIM: Press the bottom half of the switch to dim the lights.
• ON Low: When lights are OFF, press the top half once to turn the lights on to their lowest level.

LEDs: Indicate light level or glow softly as a night light when the dimmer is OFF.

FASS (Front Accessible Service Switch): This is a small sliding switch located below the main switch. Slide it to the left to completely turn off the power going to your light. This is very handy when replacing the bulbs. For any procedure other than routine lamp replacement, power must be disconnected at the breaker box or fuse box.

Installation

Installation: Installing your new Lutron dimmer is a fairly straightforward operation; however, you'll need to work with your home's electrical system.  For your safety, make sure to follow closely the installation directions in the manual:

1. At your home's circuit breaker panel or fuse box, turn OFF the power to or remove the fuse for the circuit you will be working on.
2. Remove the wallplate covering the switch you'll be replacing. Pull the switch from the wall.
3. Disconnect the wires from the switch. If the wires are connected to terminal screws, turn the screws to loosen. If the wires are "backwired," or inserted in small holes in the back of the switch, insert a small screwdriver in each hole to release the wires.
4. Using the wire nuts provided:
   • Connect the dimmer's green ground wire to the green or bare copper ground wire in the wallbox. If there is no ground wire in your wallbox, you'll need to contract a licensed electrician before proceeding.
   • Connect one of the dimmer's black wires to either of the wires removed from the switch. Connect the dimmer's other black wire to the remaining wire removed from the switch.
   • Note: if your home's wiring in this location is 10 or 12 gauge, you will need to use larger wire nuts than those provided with the dimmer.
5. Mount and align the dimmer. Install the Claro wallplate.
6. Turn the power ON.

Installation Notes:

• Do not paint front or back of dimmer
• Do not use where total bulb wattage is less than 60 Watts or greater than the dimmer's capacity (600W when installed in its own box)
• Dimmer may not work with dioded lamps (Sylvania Designer 16 or Philips PAR-16)
• Operate between 32-degrees and 104-degrees F.
• Dimmer may feel warm to the touch during normal operation.
• Recommended wallbox depth is 2-1/2" minimum.
• Clean with a soft damp cloth only. Do not use any chemical cleaners!

Multi-gang Installations: Each Lutron dimmer is designed with a metal heat sink on its front, that includes scored side panels on either side. If you are installing two or more Lutron devices in the same gang box, you'll need to remove one or both of the side panels in order to fit the devices together. This is easily done by bending the side pieces along the scored area with pliers. Removing the sides will reduce the load capacity each dimmer will handle, however.

Remote Control

Overview: This "favorite scene" remote mimics the controls on a Lutron dimmer.  It recalls the preset light levels for one "scene." In addition, it will fine tune your light level and turn off the lighting. The range is 30' line-of-sight to the IR sensor. The remote emits typical infrared pulses, which makes it possible to use it to teach the Lutron codes to most learning remote controls.

Multi-dimmer Control: One remote can effectively control several dimmers. Once you have set each dimmer's preset scene (see below), you can use the same remote to recall each dimmer's preset scene. Since the IR signal is somewhat directional, you may need to point the remote at each dimmer control, if they are not located close to each other.

Batteries: The remote includes 2 pre-installed AAA batteries.

Buttons:

• Large Top Button: Press to turn lights ON to your favorite preset scene. This button can also be used to preset the favorite scene lighting levels. Adjust the dimmer to the desired light level, point the remote at the dimmer, and press and hold the large top button for approximately 4 seconds, until the dimmer's LEDs flash.
• Large Lower Button: Press to turn lights OFF, or press and hold to activate delayed fade to OFF. As the Off button is held, the LEDs on the dimmers will begin to flash, Each flashing LED represents 10 seconds of delay before the dimmer fades to OFF (up to a 60-second delay can be programmed).
• Small Top Right Button: Press to brighten, or press once to turn you lights ON to the lowest level when the dimmer is OFF.
• Small Bottom Right Button: Press to DIM.

Remote Dimensions: 1.51" W x 4.63" H x 0.55" D (0.77" D including protruding buttons)

Wall Plate

Overview: The Claro-style wall plate offers a very clean look after installation. The two-piece design places the mounting screws behind the fact plate, hiding them from view. The result is a very smooth, pleasing installation.

Compatibility: This model fits a standard 1-gang J-box. If you are installing the dimmer into a 2-, 3-, or 4-gang box, you'll want to change to Claro-style switches and use the appropriate wall plate.
