Just got my Denon reciver AVR-S660H. Replaced it with a Denon unit that gave me 6yrs or so. Very easy to setup, sound is great. Just need to do a little tweaking to speakers to get sound where I like it. I have been buying from Crutchfield for awhile. Everything is always shipped with care. Very satisfied.

Great receiver!
John from High Point, NC on 6/26/2023
A simple 5.1 receiver for my man-cave. Onscreen display helps you get started up and had all the inputs that I needed. Doesn't have the bells and whistles that the higher-end home theatre receivers/amps have, but this Denon product is an excellent choice for anyone who may want an entry level entertainment receiver.

Easy Setup - So far so good
Thomas from Robbinsville, NJ on 6/24/2023
I purchased this Denon receiver to replace Denon AVR-X2000 that died. My setup didn't require more than the 5 channels so the AVR-S660H was a more right sized approach. With our family room TV watching down for more than a few days, the easy setup was appreciated and back in business in no time. The sound is great and the unit slid right into my existing setup with no problem.

Denon doesn't feel like a great AVR
Peter from San Jose, CA on 6/22/2023
So far so good but: output seems weak, even for rated75 watts. At 1/3 volume, my old Yamaha (100Watts) was louder. Drive 8 ohm speakers and I'm not a novice. Also, like also all AVR systems these days, getting everything "programmed" is a major effort. 242 page online only manual is confusing at best. I bought the Denon because of it's specs and ratings to replace my 13 year old Yamaha AVR. Mostly because the Yamaha HDMI specs were outdated and I started having issues. I'll give the Denon another week to see if I can get everything to work.
Pros: so far, none
Cons: Crap online manual and auto setup.

Great value in a full-featured receiver - used for music only
Jimmmmmmmy from Palm Desert, CA on 3/27/2023
Super value priced for use in my office two-channel music system. Program sources are Apple AirPlay streaming, HEOS, Internet radio, FM and occasionally audio CDs. Blue tooth capability will be a back-up to Apple Airplay. After brief burn-in, I am very pleased with my choice. I have set the tone profile to Pure Direct. This is not a top-end receiver, but it is also priced at 1/20 the cost of a McIntosh receiver. As a value proposition, it does the job - admirably.
Pros: Needs reasonable burn-in to get best sound Value quotient - cost vs. performance off the charts

I initially had a problem watching Netflix using my Roku 4K streaming device. I would get a HDCP error at times. I contacted technical support and Kali recommended that I replace my HDMI cables (My original HDMI cables were very old). I replaced the cables and now everything works great! I had an older Denon receiver that finally died after many years of great service. Perfect replacement for a dead unit
Donald from Hermitage, TN on 2/7/2023
I bought this for a friend who needed to replace their old AV Receiver as it had died. In fact it never worked properly as it did not support HDMI ARC. This receiver fit the bill perfectly and they are now very satisfied with how easy it is to use. As a bonus, it uses the same remote as my AVR-X2700H so it was a snap to train them how to operate it.
Pros: Easy to setup
Cons: PDF manual is a bit awkward to use on a phone

HDR compatibility issues
Jason from Hensley, AR on 2/5/2023
Connected my Direct Stream box to receiver and I was unable to turn on HDR in my TV settings, so there's compatibility issues. Called Denon support.. tech told me to connect my streaming box to the TV directly and bypass receiver .. only using eARC for audio. This defeated the purpose of the receivers features, but doing so allowed me to turn on HDR. Reconnected my old Yamaha receiver for the audio. I'll be returning this due to questionable HDR abilities. The setup menu also looked pre-historic. Also, the annoyingly large TV volume display showed up on the Samsung screen with the Denon. It does not do this with the Yamaha, which is nice.

Nice amp can handle 4 Ohms speakers
Robert from Hickory, NC on 1/19/2023
Could not find an amp with a phono input & A/B stereo speaker controls to drive 2 pairs of 4 Ohms small Advents placed in different rooms that didn't cost a lot. A Crutchfield's representative suggested this receiver. While I can't use it like an A/B old school set up I can run 1 room with the fronts and the other with the rears. He highly advised, since I'm not going to use it for home theater, to have a monitor to hook up for the setup, great call made a huge difference. If running 4 Ohms speakers you have to go through the setup and tell it you are. During setup ran into issues with balance between the 2 rooms that I could not figure out. Quick call to tech support and had a solution within 2 minutes. Yes, a slightly complicated setup but once set it worked out perfectly. This experience is the reason I buy from Crutchfield, nobody knows their products like these people do. I am in complete awe of how they know so much.
Pros: Lots of options
Cons: Setup can be complicated

4K/8K Denon AVR
Richard from Barrington, NH on 1/6/2023
I bought this Denon AVR to replace a 12-year old Denon to get full 4K and 8K support. The Denon setup wizard simplified most device connections. A component video connection was configured manually. Crutchfield support personnel were able to answer all questions regarding connection configurations. The Denon speaker Audyssey auto calibration was easy to set up and run. The resulting speaker sound reproduction was significantly better than with the old Denon.
Pros: - Supports up to three 8K HDMI inputs plus three 4K HDMI inputs or a total of six 4K HDMI inputs.

Just worked out of the box.
Brett from Zionsville, IN on 1/6/2023
So far, I've been thrilled. It took about 15 minutes to plug everything in (TV, DVD, Roku, Xbox, iPad, Left, Right, Center and Sub). I haven't explored all the functionality or gone through any setup procedures, but everything worked as expected right out of the box. The movies sound great, especially with the center channel (new Klipsh from Crutchfield). Music sound great as well. I need to figure out how to dial up the bass a bit (new Klipsh sub from Crutchfield), but that is something I'm sure is easily done. The shopping experience, from research, to ordering, to delivery was excellent, probably the best I've ever had.
Pros:
Cons: I wish the online manuals were better.

Denon Review Excellent value This is my first Denon receiver, and, so far, I'm impressed. I upgraded from a Sony STR-DH 550 that served me well for nearly ten years but didn't support HDCP or my Apple TV 4K. I have a modest 3.1 setup for music, TV and movies using Polk TSi100 for front and center and a small Dayton sub. Setup was easy, and I had everything up and running within 20 minutes. The Denon might not have Atmos or 7.2 support, but it has everything else I was looking for: AirPlay 2, wireless, Bluetooth, plenty of HDMI ports, and 5.2 surround support. Music and movies sound great, and I love that I can stream music directly to the receiver via AirPlay without my TV turning on. I also love that Denon has an iPhone app so I can make adjustments without the remote. I was worried that the front of the receiver would look cluttered compared to the minimalist aesthetic of my old Sony AVR, but it actually looks sleek and solid. Thanks, Crutchfield!

Previously using Yamaha RX-V3800, was better.] Checked and adjusted all parameters and settings. still not good. How to return. The next day, I turned it back on and voila-all the disappointments were erased. I didn't change anything. All I know is my new set up with the power surge is tv, receiver, Apple TV are now all shut off power wise because the Denon don't have outlet for 120V like the Yamaha. so after watching everything is totally off. So this is a good buy. worth it. picture is 4K UHD [watching World Cup 2022] . Really bright sharp colors like watching a demo in Best Buy. This receiver has all the modern needs of a stereo receiver as well as a Home Theater receiver. Set up was very straight forward. I still need to get it set up Wi Fi which requires a TV or a Monitor . My son is going to help me with this soon. Powerful 75 Watts , lots of buttons and two dials makes me really like this unit. John from Culver City, CA on 11/24/2022
I upgraded from an Sony STR-DH590 because I needed more HDMI inputs (this has six!) I greatly prefer the interface on the Denon, and find that it is superior device overall. The wattage per channel is not quite as high, and I'm a little concerned that I might be missing out, but everything I've watched using this receiver this far sounds great. I appreciate that you can leave it "pure" mode all the time - on the Sony, you had to turn it on each time you used it or switched inputs.

The AVR is very good and worth the money. Sure, a model costing $700 or more would have been better, but it's important not to fantasize about a system with features you'll never actually use. There's no way, for instance, that I'd ever connect 7 speakers for the full boat theater. The HEOS app is also great. Spotify finally through my big Klipsch speakers. The set up app is also great, but a bit counter intuitive. The issue I had was that the TV took over and meant TV speakers instead of AVR. The HDMI control choice is what it came down to, and the Crutchfield team talked me through that in minutes -- even though I'd made a low end purchase.

Very disappointed in this receiver. Switched from an old Kenwood that was failing. Kenwood was 100 watts per channel, and this is 75. I was told that it would easily drive my 100 watt polk speakers. It can't. At the higher volume the sound gets so bad I can't stand listening to it. The Kenwood wouldn't sound bad on my polk speakers no matter how much I pushed it. Unfortunately my 60 days are up, and I can nolonger return it. I wish the rep I talked to would have known it was a bad choice for producing undisturbed, loud music.

Sweet and sour
Alfonso from Peoria, AZ on 3/19/2022
Pretty nice sound; however, to get there you need patience.I ended up setting it up manually myself. The rating is mainly because even though this AVR has three HDMI outputs (one of them used for the tv or monitor) it does not have even ONE RCA, OPTICAL and/or COAXIAL OUTPUT! I checked the big guys (avr X6700, avr x8500 and the avr a110) thinking that perhaps the price was the reason why, but none of them have any of these outputs either. Pretty disappointing.l have a wonderful AVR-4802 R which has 4 in-line RCA OUTPUTS and 2 OPTICAL OUTPUTS as well, and all are being used! This 4802 has been with me since 2001, buy now it is kind of tired so I thought to replace it with one of this big atmospheric guys but without the outputs that I need..I don't think so.
Pros: Sound
Cons: Not enough OUTPUTS

Port Townsend
Fred from Port Townsend on 3/4/2022
We downsized our home and downsized our living room audio to a soundbar. It was the practical and convenient way to go. One small hitch: It sounded small. The DSP in the soundbar was optimized for TV audio and any connected audio components or streaming music service sounded lifeless. Crutchfield to the rescue. I wanted to keep it simple so my advisor directed me to the Denon AVR-S660H. Ample power to fill our space, ample connectivity to take advantage of Airplay and Alexa, and enough flexibility to get the needed processing for TV and movies and to bypass the processing when listening to good source material. If the last receiver you owned was all about on/off, in/out, up/down, bass/treble, this unit has many more toys. It takes a week or so to get comfy with all it does...but once you do, it's magic. I auditioned three sets of bookshelf speakers before deciding on the final pairing with Polk R200s and a Klipsch wireless sub. Kudos to Crutchfield for the generous return policy and price match guarantee.
Pros: Compact Flexible A thoroughly modern budget receiver
Cons: None

Denon AVR-S660H
Luis from Dorado, PR on 3/1/2022
This one replaced a Denon AVR X2300W that lasted 4 years until it broke down. After calibrating the speakers with Audyssey and trying different sound modes the sound was so bad that I set all parameters flat. It only improved substantially after manual equalization and using the pure sound option of the control. Unfortunately one of the analog channels went dead, finally returned the receiver and ordered a different (more expensive) brand from Crutchfield. On the bright side, Crutchfield customer support was excellent, smooth transaction with no problems.
Pros: Good sound if you do manual configuration to sound settings
Cons: Component reliability

Needed to upgrade my home theater amp since I upgraded to a 70" Samsung tv. I wanted to utilize the eARC connection for cable and online channels. I'm able to use the Samsung remote which pairs beautifully with the Denon. Amp drives my medium sized speakers very well. Works perfect and doesn't destroy your budget.

Very Nice Receiver (with limitations for Old School listeners)
Jim from Fresno, CA on 1/24/2022
I'm quite happy with the functions of this receiver and it seems quite fairly priced. The single HDMI output and 5 HDMI input jacks are adequate for my use. The required speaker testing and balancing feature took some time and patience to set up, but it was worth the effort and on-screen prompts made it relatively painless. The remote control, although complex as all of them seem to be nowadays, is fairly intuitive. I did use a label maker to put some notes on the back (see photos) to avoid confusing my sources. There is a bit of latency when selecting a video source, before the picture appears, but it simply requires a little patience and getting used to this brief delay. Most audio systems won't suffer for the one feature I find missing: RCA-outputs. There are RCA inputs dedicated to a turntable and a "Media Player", but I'd like two RCA-outs that allow me to connect my SONOS Port (to play Denon sources through the SONOS system) and to my Onkyo Digital Converter (to copy vinyl to MP3 files). Yes, I'm Old School - I want to OWN my music and program it, not rent it, accepting whatever order the subscription services feed!

I replaced my 10 year old Sony with this Denon and am thrilled. It took a while to set up but no real problems. We turned on a Harry Potter movie and the sound and pictures were fantastic. I also love being able to send Sirius and Pandora from my phone to the whole room.

Denon AVR-S660H
Lawrence from Eugene, OR on 1/10/2022
This replaced my Yamaha RX-V383. With the Yamaha, I could get good bass or good treble but not both at the same time. There were many settings that I doubt anyone would intentionally use for good listening. The Denon solved all that. Good highs & good lows at the same time. I used Crutchfield because their price and shipping time beat another retailor. I will remember this the next time I shop for electronics.
Pros: Useful settings if the buyer spends some time experimenting to see what works and what doesn't.
Cons: A few settings that degraded sound quality no matter how they were used.

Gorgeous sound
Crutchfield customer from Asheville, NC on 1/5/2022
Vastly superior sound to our old amp. Very comprehensive setup has balanced it to our less than ideally set up living room. Our stereo is in one corner of the room with the speakers against a wall that is side on to our couch etc - not the ideal stereo position. This amp handles it admirably. Sound balance at low volume is superb - it sounds like music playing quietly rather than a muffled noise. The same goes for spoken words - news, plays etc. The only inconvenience I found in setting it up is that it requires a television (I guess I could have used a computer monitor) . Other than that, setup was easy and very comprehensive, going far beyond "plug the bits in and you're done".
Pros: Excellent sound, smooth controls
Cons: Needing a monitor or TV for setup

Love Denon!
allen from Phoenix, AZ on 12/25/2021
I bought this AVR straight from Denon as no one at the time had it in stock. I bought this AVR to replace an older Denon AVR-788 that has been in use since 2008 I think. It looks great with a much more modern look and seems to be a bit smaller in size. Setup was a breeze and the Denon walk you right through the initial setup. Audyseey setup was great and the sound coming from my Elac bookshelf and center speakers was much better even though the S660H has less power. I did make some slight manual adjustments after the setup but that's to be expected. I cannot comment on any of the functions besides home theater and music listening but I am sure they will function perfectly. This is my fourth Denon AVR and I have not had a single issue with any of them. Very happy with this purchase and it's perfect for my small system.
Pros: looks features ease of setup
Cons: on line manual only, would love to have a printed version sent with the product.
