Really nice budget soundbar
Brad from DENHAM SPRINGS, LA on 8/26/2023
I'm really impressed with the quality sound that this soundbar produces. I purchased this to replace an older model of another brand that died. It fit perfectly under my 2018 Samsung 65 inch tv. The quality of the product is excellent. Very nice design by Denon and looks very attractive. Installation was so simple, just plug in HDMI to arc port on tv and connect the power and that's it. My tv immediately recognized the soundbar and I am able to use my tv remote to control the basic functions of the soundbar. Denon's remote gives the ability to change sound modes and adjust bass, but I won't use those features much so being able to control basic volume with my tv remote is a huge bonus. Sound quality at this price point is excellent. I've used it watching basic tv broadcast such as news and weather and the dialog is clear and easy to understand. While watching movies it gives a good experience with bass that is noticeable and highs that are quite clear and concise. Music played through the soundbar was good, and enjoyable. My only fault with this bar is the mid range frequencies seem a bit flat and weaker than I would like, but that may not be an issue for some people. Overall, the soundbar is an excellent value. It's not going to compete sound quality wise with the higher end bars, but if you are looking for a good all around bar at a great price point then look no further. I'm very pleased with my purchase.
Pros: Value, sound quality, bass, ease of installation, tv remote works on basic functions
Cons: Midrange is a bit flat and not pronounced.

Good Product
Ron from Herriman, UT on 7/23/2023
The Denon DHT-S217 is ok. It's built well and looks nice. Sound quality is better then the TV and overall I would say it's a good product. To be fair, I have to hook it up to my TV in a way that the full potential of the product is diminished. That was outlined in the specs of the product so I knew that before I bought it. I don't have the proper HDMI outlet on my TV. It synced up with my TV remote on it's own flawlessly. That was nice. Good product and for the cost you can't go wrong.

Denon DHT-S217
Charles from Cranberry Twp, PA on 7/21/2023
This Denon DHT-S217 was a let down. Didn't think the lack of dedicated center channel for clear dialogue would be an issue, but it was. This soundbar uses processing to make speech clearer. Unfortunately using the mid or high enhance speech button made speech odd sounding . I used the pure selection to get the sound to be more realistic . The soundbar sounded slightly better the Sony XBR 49x900F speakers .
Pros:
Cons: Poor speech enhancer

does not always connect to tv
steven from WORTHINGTON, KY on 5/26/2023
Sadly, the Denon bar does not consistently stay connected by HDMI to my Sony Bravia. About every 3rd turning off/on cycle, the sound bar does not automatically connect with the tv. Sadly, I have reset the tv and sound bar many times with the same outcome. I have another soundbar, so I tried it on the Sony to see what might happen. The alternative sound bar worked flawlessly each time I turned the tv off and on. The situation is unfortunate because the sound bar is excellent in all other respects. I particularly like the ability to use my own active subwoofer.
Pros: use of own sub
Cons: Does not always connected to the TV

Terrific Sound Quality with Some Negatives
Jason from Coral Springs, FL on 4/2/2023
I have the Denon S217 soundbar paired with a REL subwoofer, which is one reason I purchased this. The subwoofer output is a very nice feature, as you can use the brand you want and not limited to a Denon sub. The sound quality is very good at this price point and the fit and finish is nice. The negatives are that it would not pair with my Samsung TV and I will need to use the Denon remote. The eARC connection also did not work with my Samsung. I had to use the optical input. I'm still happy, as it sounds great, but maybe not for everyone.
Pros: Subwoofer Out Fit and Finish Sound Quality
Cons: Won't Pair with all televisions ARC connection would not work

Sound bar for mature viewers
Ronald from Monument, CO on 3/22/2023
Needed a sound bar for "old people". Something that would emphasize the voices over background noise so we could hear dialog better. Called and spoke to adviser Cash after looking at a bewildering number of choices. He hooked us up with this gem and we are very pleased with it. (Also was a lot more inexpensive then what I was looking at.) Had to call for one minor question and service was great! Crutchfield was a fantastic place to shop!
Pros: Easy to install Reasonably priced All you need to install it is provided.
Cons: None

BOHDAN from EASTHAMPTON, MA on 3/4/2023
This bar is very well built and sounds great. We watch a lot of UK and Australian/New Zealand content, so dialogue was often hard to understand with the speakers on our new Sony 55-inch TV. This soundbar has completely solved that issue. Although it has no center speaker, you would never know it, as it flawlessly simulates one. In Movie Mode the sound field is amazingly expansive and wide. It actually sounds like there are additional side speakers on the sides creating a semi-surround field. We are not fans of full surround sound coming from behind, so this perfectly meets our needs. The bar is plug-and-play so setup is a breeze. We use the eARC connection so the soundbar's remote is mostly unnecessary since the bar will respond to basic commands (such as on/off, volume and channels) from the TV or streaming device remotes. We only use the soundbar remote to control things like the various modes (Movie, dialogue, night/day, etc.) dialogue enhancement and such. When using it you have to hold the buttons down for a couple of seconds to make the change which makes it virtually impossible to accidentally trigger an unintentional command. This one's a keeper.
Pros: - Excellent sound - Clear dialogue without sacrificing other sound - Solid build - Fantastic stereo field
Cons: None

Great Soundbar for Bedroom
Mario from NEWHALL, CA on 1/4/2023
I bought this soundbar for my bedroom. I wasn't expecting too much since I wanted a minor improvement over my TV speakers. This soundbar far exceeded my expectations. For not having a separate subwoofer, the bass is more than acceptable. Even with it being so small, Dolby Atmos sounds really good in a small room. It's not the theater experience but it's great. I recommend this soundbar if you just want a soundbar without having to get a separate subwoofer. Since my TV is a bit older, I connect my Google Chromecast 4k through the passthrough and the soundbar to ARC.

There's not much to say about this product or the service involved. What I can say is, when it was delivered, I unpacked it, plugged it in and since, it has answered my every need in a sound bar. The most of those needs was enjoyment and quality sound. As for yhe service, wonderful as well as more than helpful as it has been for the past thirty years. The speaker wire was an afterthought for another project but, as usual, answered my needs in the best off ways. &Hankering you again.and again for your attention to your customer's needs., Jerry Partrick

I like it. Just done love it. Doesn't get as loud as I expected it would. The bass is ok considering the size of the "woofers". Although I wouldn't call them subwoofers. But it is capable of connecting to a separate sub
Pros: Ease of use. Fearures
Cons: Not that loud

Great Soundbar!
Amber from Marshfield, MO on 11/28/2022
After one week of use, I am very happy with this bar. The build quality of this unit stands out immediately after opening the box. Sound output has been better than I expected. Atmos is a pleasant surprise. Just realize that this unit is at the bottom level of Atmos capability, however, it is noticeable. Control is easy and very responsive to remote input. I have it paired with an LG TV and a 3rd generation Fire TV Cube. The HDMI input is a great addition as well as the ability to add an external subwoofer. Denon is known for quality. It is not the least expensive option, but it should be considered if the size and features it offers are on your radar. I would buy a second one if needed.
Pros: Subwoofer Port HDMI Input and Passthrough Atmos Dialogue Enhancer Easy Setup
Cons: Manual is short on Info

Clear sound, does what it says
Matt from Broken Arrow, OK on 9/12/2022
I bought this soundbar strictly for its subwoofer out jack and Atmos processing (2.1 simulated), as I've gone through 2 expensive units in 1 year where the wireless went out in the sub, making the setup worthless. Now, why the heck companies are not making sub out jacks is beyond me, but at least a few still do, including this Denon model. I paired this Denon with a Klipsch 12" sub I bought on sale at Costco. I have to say, 4k from a PS5 through the Denon and to my Bravia X950G was outstanding! The Denon uses colored led lights on the unit to show if it's Atmos, Dolby (other), PCM, or none instead of a digital read out screen. The setup is simple, there are no adjustments other than bass which worked perfectly with my Klipsch. Night mode is great and lowers the bass and loudness down enough to be quiet but still very audible. eARC works great and showed Atmos processing from my Vudu account on my TV. There are no latency issues with either eARC from the TV or HDMI from a PS5. My living room is very large with 20' vaulted ceilings and I had the volume at 4 led's (they go to 5 for max) and it was theater like loud with absolutely no distortion. I am very impressed with this unit, and other than the lack of DTS processing and a center channel, this Denon is excellent! I would love to see one of these with a center channel, DTS, and longer with more speakers and a sub out jack for the future from Denon. Note, Pure mode does not process Atmos FYI, see manual.
Pros: Subwoofer out jack Simple remote Clear sound eARC/4k/Atmos/HDR passthrough
Cons: No DTS processing No info screen No center channel

Sound is pretty good, not much bass but that's expected from something this small. Remote is easy to use, however you can't tell what mode it is on (voice dialogue high, med, low or night mode). It's great that is has voice dialogue enhancement, makes it easy to hear.

Very happy w my new sound bar. Set up was easy and w the eArc my remotes still work. Added depth and bass to my TV. Voices remain clear at all volumes. Wife, who uses hearing aids, didn't need them to follow dialog.
Pros: Conversation and dialog very clear
Cons: Bass can be too much

Get it for this one main feature...
Jeffrey from Montville, NJ on 8/10/2022
I was looking for a sound bar for my garage and new LED TV. So I didn't have a lot of requirements for a sound bar. Typically, I'm a Bose fan and found a cheaper bar for $200 locally. I would have bought it, but it was lacking a major feature. If you're anything like me, having multiple remotes for the TV and sound bar is annoying just to raise/ lower the volume. So I was on the lookout for an entry level bar with eARC. I knew Crutchfield would have the option to filter out eARC vs. other retailer websites. I have this paired w/ a Hisense 65" A65H. It's really easy to connect the Denon with the supplied HDMI cable. At only this price the easy eARC connection and using it in the garage when I detail, it's great. Full sound and clearly better than the internal TV speakers. All you have to do is connect the HDMI cable to an eARC port in the TV. In TV settings turn off the TV speakers and everything just works. Nothing to do on the sound bar it self. You can use either the TV or sound bar remote to turn on/ off and raise/ lower the volume... eARC is seamless. For the price, it sounds good and has the features I need.. clearly you need to set your expectations vs. a $800-$900 Bose or Sonos with eARC. So really the only reason I didn't go with the $200 Bose is because of the connection. It didn't have eARC, just optical... so there you go. I hope this helped. Oh and it's not too tall, so that's a big bonus too.
Pros: Slim/ Price/ eARC/ Easy to mount
Cons: Could sound fuller.
