Set-Up Not Difficult, Great Sound!
Joseph from Tucson, AZ on 9/28/2023
We are very pleased with this choice! We listen to classical, jazz and popular music (e.g., Beatles). The Denon DRA 800H has been a great choice for us. Great music listening and lots of other possibilities we are still discovering. Also, the TV screen-assisted set-up is a life-saver (P.S.- I'm not that techy!!)
Pros: Assisted set-up was not hard. Great sound for popular music. Lots of possibilities.
Cons: None.

Rocks, but also in an unexpected and unwelcome way...
Bruce from Gansevoort, NY on 9/19/2023
Could be some quality control issues at Denon's factory in Vietnam: 1 of 2 network antennae is a bit loose with no apparent way of tightening. And, _much_ more annoyingly, the bottoms of the unit's four feet are not in the same plane, so new Denon rocks like a restaurant table-for-two that needs a book of matches stuck under the short leg. Just no excuse... (Retired Sony ES was sure-footed on same shelf.) HOWEVER(!), new Denon sounds better than any receiver/amplifier I've ever owned. Power and clarity are remarkable. Old Klipsch RF3s now sound like they should: great bass and so very loud. Sonos Connect, now via coax, instead old Sony's analog hookup, sounds much better than before. Could be just the better amp, but digital likely contributes to improvement. CD changer now connected with optical cable, instead of the old analog, and again much better sound. Wife was away for a few hours, immediately after UPS delivery, arriving home to a ready demonstration and (luckily for me) missing all loud testing. She's not so enthusiastic about the Stones and even less so about very loud music. Nevertheless, I put "Let It Bleed" in the CD changer and played "You've Got the Silver" pretty loud. She sat still thorough the whole tune, and then said "Wow!" Network & Airplay setup were easy with an HDMI PC monitor connected. Overall, I'm happy, but that rocking on a flat service is just inexcusable and makes me wonder about less visible aspects of Denon's
Pros: In a large and high-ceilinged room, the sound is magnificent! Two speakers fill the wide open first floor with Hi-Fi! Easy setup. Airplay works beautifully.
Cons: The stunning inability of the receiver to sit firmly on a verified level surface. I shouldn't have to shim a foot on _anything_ from a reputable manufacturer. This lapse is worthy of Brand-X. And it's _NOT_ Crutchfield's fault! I don't want a replacement unit and all the attendant hassle. Some sort of credit from Denon, however, is justified and would be welcome.

Would be better if could completely control AM/FM tuner directly from amplifier (without using the remote). Currently, can only control the station selection using the amplifier from a previous pre preset list. The remote is needed to tune to any station. Otherwise it works fine. I am only using to listen to CDs or AM/FM radio as a replacement for an older failed DRA-625R receiver .

Wanted just a good stereo, did not really need home theater. Decided to go with this as it had a lot of connectivity. The basic setup was easy, however finding the specific settings that allowed me to give priority to my tv speakers was a challenge. After several trial and errors I had to reset the unit to factory defaults and start again. I was finally successful and am pleased with this.
Pros: A lot of setting options
Cons: The manual for the settings could be mor clear about what the settings do.

Took a bit to get used to all of the features of this fine amp. It really puts out some power. Very versatile with other gear because of the HDMI inputs. I've got to give it five stars.
Pros: Inputs
Cons: Not enough inputs for old cassette and cd players using plug in cables. I made it work though.

Crutchfield was so easy to work with, very responsive, quick delivery and best price. It's nice to not be forced to use that other retailer! The Denon unit was easy to set up and worked perfectly first time with my Apple music app on my phone, my ipod, the TV, the CD player and the tuner seems to function well. No issues. Awesome amplifier.
Richard from Lenexa on 6/17/2023
I am glad that Denon is still making this amplifier. It is an excellent audiophile entry point. I have had mine for over three years now and I still love it. I use it almost every time I listen to music. As an amplifier, it delivers nice clean power at 100 watts. I hardly ever turn the volume up more than two-thirds max. The frequency response is very flat. It does not roll off at either the high or low end. Which means that if you have bright speakers, this amp will let them be bright. But this amp has tone controls, so you can tame the brightness with the treble control. I use this amp with, among other things, a pair of Focal Aria 906s, which to me are a bit bright. I have the tone control set at -2. This amp also has a restorer DSP, which Denon says is useful for playing MP3s. I ran the restorer when I first got the amp. But I do not anymore because I feel it colors the sound too much. I run the amp both with the remote control and with HEOS on my tablet or phone. It can also be helpful to hook the amp to a TV to monitor operation of the amp, such as seeing album artwork and song information on the TV. I use the amp in numerous ways: to stream Tune In radio, to listen to Hi Res audio through the USB port or from my computer as a music server, to stream Tidal either using HEOS or Apple Airplay, to serve as an adjustable level line out into my 300B tube amp (which can play pretty much all of the sources, and to drive my Audioengine subwoofer. Yeah, this amp was a great buy!
Pros: Excellent versatility.
Cons: None really.

Denon dra-800H honest review
Kent H from New Market, TN on 5/29/2023
My salesperson, obi,at crutchfield, listened to my concerns about what I wanted to achieve. I was looking at mark down, scratch and dent items because I really didn't know what I wanted. I called crutchfield and obi answers and the rest is history. I've been out of sync with stereo systems for many years, but knew I was going to get something no matter what. Obi suggested denon products for the receiver end of this adventure, and that he was confident of the quality with their lineup. I'm glad I listened. Power is paramount when stereo systems, speakers, amplifers are concerned, and 100 watts is really ware you want to start. I was looking at 80 watt receivers for less money, but a little more money gets the better choices. You must have enough power to drive the system, period. Setup is very easy if you read the directions, and I'm still learning how to install other components as I go. Once I installed the app, bluetooth compatibility sealed the first part of my serenity. The he'os app allows me to control "everything "from my phone with the remote for the receiver in my music chair. Like I said, I'm still learning,as I haven't done anything stereo wise since high school, I'm 63.the service, technical "team "is certainly on the job here at crutchfield, and show genuine concern about solving any issues you may have with your product.genuine concern is lacking in today's world just about every ware you go. Bottom line, crutchfield is the only place I will deal with.
Pros: Sales team exceptional
Cons: Can't find any

Airplay Setup is Finicky
Crutchfield customer from SCOTTSDALE, AZ on 5/14/2023
I was able to setup the WiFi connection easily once I read the instructions about how to enter the network's password. However, getting the Airplay connection to work was a struggle. My main content source for streaming is my PC and I use Tuneblade via Airplay. My initial setup has Tuneblade streaming to a WiiM Pro DAC-8 receiver and this works well. I then attempted to add the Denon unit to the mix which did not work initially even though both the Denon and WiiM indicated connection. In addition, sometimes the Denon would not connect to Airplay after I select Heos (not sure what that is but this is what the manual told me to do). After much fooling around with setups on Tuneblade I changed streaming mode from real time to normal (2 sec Latency) and voila- it worked! Seems that the Denon can't handle realtime streaming but the WiiM can. Based on my investigaton, the lowest latency the Denon can tolerate is about 1 second. Aside from this "feature" the unit looks solid and has lots of power for my vintage large Advents.
Pros: Well made Good value
Cons: Airplay is finicky to setup and use

So far- GREAT
Peter from Albany, CA on 5/2/2023
So far, so good! This unit is capable of a lot more then we are using it for so I can't speak to home theatre, gaming etc. I bought this unit because our former amp (from a very high end audio products company) crapped out after 5 years. Right now we are playing CDs, Listening to FM radio, streaming music through the media center HDMI port, and bluetooth streaming podcasts etc from phones. All are working well, and sound great. Set up was easy with the exception of tuning in radio stations.I bought this unit because it was the only that had all the features I wanted. Bluetooth, speaker switching, DAC, integrated tuner and a reputable brand name. We already have a Denon CD player. Tuning in radio stations required learning to navigate the character map with the remote. It took me a while to figure out how to type in "91.1" with the remote, however once you have one station you can just go up and down on the remote and then select save so subsequent station finding is not as laborious. My wife hates visible attenae's in the living room so I will feed in a coax cable from under the house with the speaker cables to connect the signal from the TV antenae on the roof. Of the two stations I did tune in with the provided FM antenae one sounds great. The other is fuzzy. Last amp from the 80's lasted for 25 years before any problems- hope this one lasts!

This is the real deal. It is totally faithful to the sound, smooth, and brings out inner detail. It has enough power to knock you down, if that's your idea of listening. Certainly handles loud crescendos in an orchestra, and anything else. It has loads of extra features of which I use a few judiciously and all work as advertised.
Pros: Power, smoothness, faithful sound reproduction. Amazingly good.
Cons: None. It costs a little more than some but it's worth it.

Great stereo receiver
David from Indianapolis, IN on 3/29/2023
Finally got around to setting up my dormant stereo system after a five year hiatus and needed a new receiver. The DRA-800H has plenty of power to run two legacy Thiel tower speakers and a Klipsch sub woofer. This has all the basics too with inputs for turntable and CD player bringing my decades old collections back to life. Super easy setup and operated by either the remote control or by the HEOS app, both of which provide all the necessary parameters in an intuitive format. Setting up playlist on HEOS is much better than playlists on each individual streaming service. I've spent endless hours on hifi streaming using Amazon and Tidal, but still go back to Pandora and Airplay with ease. This is my first Denon product, and I'm not disappointed. Great stereo receiver with enough bells and whistles to do all the things I wanted, and at a very reasonable price.

Unit had a fuse blow and the motherboard went bad after just over two years of use. The warranty had expired. Crutchfield people were great, but they would not replace the unit. Denon also would not replace the unit. Neither offered a new unit at a reduced price. I have other receivers as much as 30 plus years old that work great. This one would have to be repaired at a price that is more than the original retail price. I had the unit diagnosed for problems thinking I could get it repaired. The only way now is to box it up, send it to Atlanta, wait for the repair at who knows what cost, and wait for it to be shipped back and hope that it works. I feel strongly that I got cheated as Denon should make a product that will last, or stand behind their product. I am out the purchase price. Suggest you not buy this product as it is a crap shoot as to how long it will last. Now I have to find another unit for my setup. This is not a fun time.
Pros: It was the exact unit I needed for my setup.
Cons: It began to fail about 6 months ago and failed completely about a month ago.

This is an initial review after 24 hours of use. I found setup to be pretty easy and simple (I have had many receivers before). The setup assistant worked quite well. Even though I will not be using this with a TV, I did a temporary TV connection to simplify the setup. I bought this to replace a 6 year old Yamaha R-N402 network receiver expecting a nice upgrade in sound quality. And it was obvious immediately. Much cleaner tighter sound with more detail. The HEOS app is OK, not great. Overall thrilled with the Crutchfield experience, delivery, and the receiver.
Pros: Ease of setup Sound quality Reasonable price
Cons: HEOS app is OK, not great

During my research, I came across the Crutchfield web site. I was impressed with the company and its web site. The web site was easy to navigate and the selection of equipment was great. Amplifiers and Zone 2 NOPE
Justin from Soledad, CA on 2/3/2023
Denon DRA-800H is a good receiver but it has its flaws. First the good, it has a DAC for usb use, phono for vinyl, RCA in if you want to connect a phone and Bluetooth. So far I don't have too many complaints until you start to upgrade to speakers that are power hungry. When using this receiver in combination with an amplifier, you'll need to use Zone 2. Zone 2 does not allow tone (treble, bass and balance). If you're going to just use the 100 WPC that's fine you can adjust tone all day long. Once you add an amplifier it went down hill for me. Overall it's a good receiver for entry level music lovers.
Pros: Lots of options for the audio person that uses usb, vinyl and phones.
Cons: Zone 2 does not have tone features enabled.

Good sound, poor tuner.
Dennis from Lake Oswego, OR on 1/28/2023
I bought this Denon as a replacement for my Yamaha R-N602 network receiver. I like the features of the Yamaha, but wanted something with "warmer" sound. The Denon has all the same capabilities, and I did like the sound better. But, for me, the big drawback on the Denon is the tuner. I live in an area with lots of AM radio stations, but could not get a single one to play on the receiver. Part of the problem is the antenna. I swapped out the one from Denon with the one on my Yamaha, which has the same design, but heavier gauge wire. That improved reception, but still nowhere near as good as my Yamaha. I think Denon cut corners on quality in the tuner component. I did use the HEOS app to get internet radio stations, and had no issues with that. Sometimes, especially for sporting events, a radio station will broadcast a live event on the radio, while streaming different content on the internet at the same time. I know I'm old school, but that's why I was hoping for a decent tuner. So, I am returning the Denon. Thank you, Crutchfield, for the option of a no-risk trial in my own home. The search continues.
Pros: Good sound for a receiver in that price range. Lots of analog inputs plus network options
Cons: Very poor AM radio reception

Good receiver for a fair price
Dmitriy from Dacula, GA on 1/10/2023
It's my first experience with Denon. I use this receiver for music and movies. The movie sound is great - an abundance of detail and pleasant overall impression. Dialogs are easily comprehensible and have no issues. The music sounds good although the quality of the recording plays a significant role in the final result. In my opinion this receiver is underpowered. My Wharfedale Evo 4.4 floor standers produce good immersive sound when the volume is at 55-65 with this Denon. The Heos app works but there are some issues when I pair it with Tidal. Spotify however works great. Wish the app interface and ergonomics were better. Out of the box this Denon receiver stinks and it does so during first days of use. I'm satisfied with this receiver and I believe that it works well for it's price. If you want to get better sound and more user friendly controls you'll have to pay more than $700 for the receiver. I also would like to shout out to Crutchfield's team and Simon who advised me this receiver. I saved several hundreds bucks thanks to them.
Pros: Cheap, has multiple connection options, delivers good sound for movies and music, virtual remote app is very convenient.
Cons: Stinks in the first week of use, has no enough power for the speakers, Heos app has issues with Tidal.

Looks good for TV use, but very disappointed in audio power. I had to turn volume to 50% just to hear anything from my Klipsch R-820F 8ohm speakers and if I wanted to hear it loud (the way I listen to it) I had to turn volume to 80-90%. I'm not comfortable having stereo receiver cranked that high during normal use. I like to listen to FM radio, the Denon receiver fm tuner gets no reception. My 20 year old pioneer stereo receiver with only 65 watts per channel out performs this Denon receiver in audio power and fm tuning. I returned for refund.
Pros: It's geared for AV usage, lots of connections.
Cons: Not worth the money to me due to low audio power, weak FM tuning

I have had this amp for about a week. I upgraded from a 20yo marantz surround sound bought from a thrift store. First my Zu Audio speakers arrived w/ the old Marantz, huge improvement. Then I got the Denon amp and I wasn't expecting much improvement, wrong, huge improvement again. So far I haven't used the wireless technology but it cranks. I'm 67 classic rock (70's) and blues. I play it loud for my old ears to hear. I find I'm playing this amp at ~70% max with 95db speakers. Originally I ordered the NAD amp w/150W per, this amp is rated 100W per, wish I had more. I'm using a longer than supplied FM ant and getting great reception, I live in the country. CD's so far have had the highest fidelity and articulate sound. The tone controls also actually make a huge difference in the sound, unlike most amps, 1 or 2 clicks is all ya need. I would have given this product 5 stars except for watts per channel.
Pros: Sound
Cons: Instructions I'm old school I like a hard copy of the manual.

I've never written a review about anything before. First the good--the amp is good, close to audiophile quality. But try to follow the instructions to hook the unit up to HEOS. After about six hours and 4 days it is finally communicating with an iPhone. The instructions that come with it are worse than useless because they give incorrect instructions. Went to Denton and two other websites to try to get useful instructions. Called Crutchfield 4 times for help. The techs were polite and tried really hard to help but we got nowhere. Printed another manual from Denton (50+ pages). It also gave incorrect and plain wrong pictures on how to have Heos and the 800 communicate. In fact Denon doesn't even have instructions on Heos for the 800--it does for the 900 but they are different than what you get on the 800. Finally after guessing through about a dozen different ways just to produce an "enter" to recognize my wifi I got online. Thought I was set! Not. The next time I turned it on it hadn't remembered anything I'd done. After 3 more complete sign in's starting with the wifi/router it has now worked for 4 days in a row. I live in the center of Houston and the tuner can't get a good quality signal on FM. I have chosen to keep it but I advise anyone to avoid a company that produces equipment that is so poorly supported. Even the excellent techs at Crutchfield finally gave up on what to do. I will never buy Denon equipment again and advise one and all to avoid it.

Crutchfield customer from SANTA MONICA, CA on 11/2/2022
AWESOME receiver! FINALLY after having the wrong receiver (7.1 channel non HDMI surround) for 10 years- my killer vintage Infinity loudspeakers sound great! They are finally sounding how they should with a true 2.1 set-up. This Denon receiver makes them come alive! - with my Sony 4K tv and Apple TV. Music streaming and tv shows, movies and my turntable sound amazing now. I don't need or want 7.1 surround sound!

I have only had the receiver for a week but so far it does not disappoint. It is a little work to set up but once you do the features are amazing. It is rated at 100w per channel but it does not quite sound lake a 100w system, still plenty of power to drive my Yamaha NS-8390 3 way speakers. This is mostly for music and the CD and phono work great with this 880h and the streaming music makes for plenty of good listening.
Pros: Packed full of features Bluetooth Wifi Lots of ports to hook into
Cons: Set up takes some time

Levi was a huge help. He recommended the Denon DRA-800 to go with the Integra CDC-3.4 CD player I wanted after I explained I wanted something basic and simple. Levi listened to what I said and never spoke down to me when he must have realized I didn't know much about buying electronics. He did not try to "upsell" either. Both components were sent that day and arrived just a few days later. They are great. It is wonderful to listen to our collection of CDs and to have music playing throughout the house again. Thank you Levi and Crutchfield for making the process easy.

I am pleased with the power and sound produced by the DRA-800H powering a pair of Axiom M60 speakers. The HEOS app has worked pretty well and offers mutliple sources to access my music. However the app does cut out suddenly once in a while, infrequent and short cutouts, but annoying.

I had high expectations for the Denon DRA-800H. If you are into wireless wifi this is the machine for you. It will do anything you want. I'm not big on wifi. I want something with power and simple to use. I feel the Denon could use some EQ ports to enhance the sound. There's nothing here for my reel to reel. So I had to use a port not made for it. It work but can't record. It delivers on power.

Not really any preamp function.
Bradford from CLARENCE CENTER, NY on 7/9/2022
This works well as a hub for music I send through air play to it. There is a significant deficit as far as I am concerned though. The dials on the receiver only work on "Main Zone". The pre-amp out is only on "Zone 2". The dials for volume, balance, treble and base on the face of the receiver cannot be set to control Zone 2. The remote and the HEOS app only control volume and source selection on Zone 2. Finally, the max volume for Zone 2 is limited to 70 and cannot be adjusted. At first I thought it was my inept understanding of the instructions but I end up being disappointed. I send the pre-amp signal to my Adcom amp and out to a set of McIntosh speakers. Guess I don't know why a pre-amp out would be hobbled in this way.

Lots of bells and whistles. Power section is lacking.
John from Portland, OR on 12/27/2021
This is one of only a few 2 channel amps with HDMI inputs and ARC support for those of us who don't want a soundbar or surround system. I got one of these for Christmas to power my Elac UniFi UB5's. The 4ohm rating concerned me. Numerous reviews claim it can power 4 ohm loads so I thought I'd try. It just barely does. All the bottom end was sucked out of my speakers. I swapped in a pair of Sony SS-CS 5's and, with their 6 ohm rating, they immediately sounded fuller (and those Sony's are not bass heavy speakers compared to the Elacs). I would not recommend this receiver for low impedance speakers. This is a nice receiver for convenience and features but the power section lets it down. Sound quality is not bad when the amp is connected to 6+ ohm speakers and is in its comfort zone. ARC, HDMI CEC: I connected to my LG UHDTV via the HDMI ARC input on the TV and the Monitor ARC out on the receiver. It worked initially but then suddenly stopped. After going through all of the setup menus and ensuring that ARC was selected and HDMI CEC was turned on on both devices I could not get the audio return channel to work. Ultimately, I powered down both completely and unplugged them, plugged them back in and turned them on and it's been working fine ever since. That initial handshake between devices seems to make a huge difference. I don't fault LG or Denon for this but include this in my review in case anyone has similar problems setting up HDMI CEC and ARC functionalit
Pros: HDMI inputs, HEOS
Cons: On screen UI, underpowered

Connecting the Denon DRA-800H to the television has been impossible. We can sound or we can get video but we can not get picture and sound together. Have followed every guide, double checking every connection and setup. Obviously connections are working but syncing is not happening. Incredibly frustrating. Unless you have a two-year degree in electronics this item is not for you. HEOS is operating but not happy with having to go through cell phone. Having to use four control devices to operate: TV, Receiver, Cable, Phone. My old Onkyo, still being used elsewhere, puts this Denon to shame.

Sounded great, for 15 minutes, then the unit got super hot and switched off and or overheated and became inoperable.
Pros: Sounded great for 15 minutes.
Cons: Just like a few of the other reviews I read. This denon unit operated with a strange smell, and ran extremely hot. I have 30 plus years as a hobbyist audiophile, so yes all my connections were perfect. It did sound great through my klipsch speakers. Quality control is obviously very poor and the plant these are made at OR the parts are so cheap they just are not up to the engineered specs of the unit.

Great option if you need the power
Wes from Pflugerville, TX on 8/30/2021
I highly recommend this receiver and buying it from Crutchfield if/when you can! NOTE: Most people don't need 100w x2. You either want a 3-7 channel amp for your surround sound or you have stereo speakers that will sound fine with a 50ish watt amp. However, if you do have inefficient stereo speakers, this is a great option. The DAC is excellent, the power is plentiful and the connectivity is EXTENSIVE (save for one missing)!! The closest thing I could find to a flaw is the fact that there is no rear USB input for my computer. There is a FRONT USB port for a portable HD or thumb drive, but it will not connect to a computer. So, there are basically only two options to play my computer sound through the Denon. Either connect through and external DAC (Computer to DAC vis USB and then DAC to Denon via RCA). But the Denon has a great DAC and I don't want to bypass it with an external one. So the other option is to connect via Bluetooth. Which I thought would be a bad option for sound quality, but I've been pleasantly surprised. So, I have my entire 1200 CD collection ripped to FLAC on my computer (>400GB). I play it through foobar2000, run it over Bluetooth to the Denon, out through high quality speaker cables to my 1996 NHT SuperOnes. It sounds pretty amazing for what it is! :)
Pros: Sound quality/DAC POWER! Connectivity
Cons: Wish it had a rear USB port for computer connectivity

Clean sounding receiver. My music sounds way better now. Was running a 7.2 Onkyo previously. That had less power per channel. Power cord on the Denon was my first clue this was going to have more power.

Cons: Gets hot at higher volumes. But I added an external electronics fan to solve.

I had to return it the day after that I got it!! The only thing that worked was the power light, nothing else did, plus there was a 2 inch long scratch and a 1/16 inch deep dent. The box wasn't damaged. When I realize that it wasn't working, I called Crutchfield and talked the technician for help, after 20 minutes of trouble shooting no luck! He hated to tell me especially after the long wait to receive the Denon DRA-800H receiver and not knowing when I will get another one due to the shortage, I'm currently waiting for the next shipment. Just What I Wanted
Crutchfield customer from Knoxville, TN on 3/24/2021
This is a receiver that does everything I want it to do and even some things I didn't know I wanted it to do, all from the convenience of an app on my phone. I'm not an audiophile, but I think it produces really good clean sound. I have a set of 4 ohm speakers, and it won't drive those at the same time as another pair of 8 ohms that I have, but apparently a device that will do such a thing is hard to find. My Crutchfield adviser, Ivey, was great and the receiver was in my house about 24 hours after I ordered it. As far as any sort of scratch or dent, I didn't see one. Altogether very happy with my purchase, and with Crutchfield.
Pros: Features, connections for everything, sound, convenience.
Cons: Won't drive a pair of 4 ohm speakers at the same time as another pair of 8 ohm speakers.

Sounds great with classic speakers! Crisp/Clear/With Bass
Karen from Chicago, IL on 3/17/2021
I have has the Denon DRA-800H for about two months now. I was replacing a Technics system I bought in the 80s as a teen. I bought the M41 mini system for the office and I love, I wanted something for the main floor. So this is what I picked after research. I don't watch tv or interested in it so I wanted a music receiver first. I am very happy with this, sounds great with a pair of classic Klipsch KG 5.5 floor speakers and some book shelf carvers from 94. I even took off the carver sub because the 5.5s do the job. Med living/dining room open floor plan. I don't think I need the carvers. The sound is crisp, clear with a balanced bass. I wished I lived near the Crutchfield Store :)
Pros: Quality sound.

Great Amp, Fair Tuner
Ronald from Sacramento, CA on 3/16/2021
I purchased this receiver in January of this year after my highly touted Yamaha R-S202 failed. Thankfully Crutchfield gave me a full refund even though I was a couple of weeks beyond the 60-day cutoff. I bought this unit as the one I really wanted, the Yamaha R-N602 is perennially out of stock. My needs are music only, and frankly, there is really very little out there anymore in 2-channel receivers. This unit does bring good, clean high power however, and has a few features which are must-haves for me (front USB port, uncompressed music file capability, A/B speaker terminals). I do not need all of the AV features however that come with this unit, as I won't be streaming music or using it in a 2.1 environment with my television. I've also rated it at 4/5 stars because the subwoofer integration and FM tuner are mediocre at best. The unit comes with a sub out connection and a setup routine, but it is NOT geared for music, but mainly supporting A/V (this was confirmed by both Crutchfield and Denon support). However my REL T/5i is wired using the speaker level terminals and works well. As for FM, there is no indoor antenna on the planet that provides a good signal. I am in the process of installing an outdoor FM antenna, I just have to put on a breather and crawl under my house to snake the coax to an exterior wall. However the receiver sounds great with my new Pro-Ject Carbon Evo turntable and my current Polk RTi-A3 speakers (I have Klipsch RP-600M's arriving tomo
Pros: 100 watts clean power, USB integration, phone preamp, solid unit, looks good
Cons: FM tuner, wonky subwoofer integration, way too many features for my needs (maybe I'll explore some of them someday, but currently enjoying vinyl, cd and usb only).

Crutchfield customer from Quincy, FL on 3/11/2021
What a wonderful sounding receiver! Hearing details in the music missed by other receivers and amplifiers. Makes vocals clearer, background instruments come life. My Sony CD player /changer sounds better too, especially when using the optical input. The phono preamp and the FM tuner are much better than most receivers I have had, which have included Onkyo, NAD, and Sony. The HEOS app also expands music options exponentially once you figure it out.
Pros: The sound of music. The HEOS options. I use siriusxm, and Amazon prime music mostly.
Cons: No pre-outs /main in option. It has subwoofer pre out and zone 2, but that's it.

Really a nice system
James from Covington, IN on 2/12/2021
am thrilled with this receiver. I replaced a vintage Pioneer SX-780 that I had for almost 50 years. This receiver allows me to run everything through it, no matter what the source. I input 3 HDMI devices, dish tv modem, Blu-Ray player and an amazon Firestick. The video from all 3, as selected run to my Samsung TV. The audio is all directed to my Klipsch bookshelf speakers. I may not be an Audiophile, but they sound terrific. In addition I listen to a lot of Sirius radio through it, and I listen to Amazon HD music that sounds great. It is really nice to ask for a song and have it playing in HD Stereo immediately. I cant imagine getting more from any system in this same price range.
Pros: unbelievable flexibility
Cons: Keeps me up too late listening to good music :)

Crutchfield customer from King George, VA on 9/13/2020
I've put about 80 hours on this receiver and it has met my expectations, which were high. Sounds great with two Klipsch 820f speakers. Honestly, it has more features than I will ever use, but it's still a deal at this price just running 2 channel stereo from my phone.
Pros: Easy to use. Plenty of power. Well built.

Better then I expected
Michael from Toledo, OH on 9/4/2020
I recently decided to upgrade from my Integra DTM5.3 for something newer with HDMI switching and Airplay2. Specs suggest my integra and the denon are almost identical power wise. I have a brand new pair of Klipsch rp5000f's, decided to buy the denon when it came back in stock, it just came a couple days ago and got it hooked up and let it play for a bit before making any critical assessments. From the ease of setup, to the look of the unit and quality of the sound, I'm blown away it only cost this much. I am still a fan of 2 channel audio and proper placement and quality gear can yield awesome results for music bliss. It's a very warm sounding amp in comparison to the integra, better detail, hdmi arc works flawlessly, and airplay2 sounds excellent and works every time as well. I have no complaints of this amp what so ever. I would have paid more for it with how nice it is. Can't recommend enough.
Pros: Price Sound quality Features
Cons:

Powerful, many features, and affordable!
Crutchfield customer from New Braunfels, TX on 7/21/2020
When I began the purchase process, my home was wired for indoor and outdoor speakers with bare wire coming out of the wall where the A/V equipment would sit. I knew I wanted to play music and that I wanted to be able to control volume independently in the two areas. I am completely uneducated in A/V equipment and had no clue where to start. Tony at Crutchfield walked me through the process and gave me multiple options. I chose the Denon DRA-800H because of its options and really affordable price. The Denon app allows me to turn on the receiver from anywhere using my phone or iPad and to control the volume in the two zones. I can play music using all kinds of apps, HEOS, Spotify, iTunes, radio stations, etc. I just open the app, then choose the Denon receiver as an option. I have been able to bluetooth facebook concerts from my iphone to the receiver. I have the option, if I want, of connecting a CD player or turntable to the receiver. Zone 2 is connected to a Russound Amp to give the outdoor speakers the volume boost they need. We have listened to more music in the last couple of months than we have in the last several years. It is absolutely wonderful and my husband and I are very, very happy.
Pros: 2 zones, HEOS, bluetooth, easy to use

Great for bedroom system
Mark from Yamhill, OR on 7/2/2020
I purchased this as the heart of a simple master bedroom system. It is paired with Klipsch RP-160m bookshelf speakers, a turntable and a Blu ray player (currently on CD duty), with a 4k TV as a planned upgrade. As a stereo amplifier, it works well, and was very easy to set up even without the onscreen option of a connected TV. I have used the radio tuner, phono, CD (coax digital) and Apple Airplay (via HEOS) inputs so far, and all have worked very well after initial setup. Connecting to wifi is a bit of a pain, since without onscreen display you're limited to a pretty complex set of keystrokes on the remote control (using a custom grid provided in the manual) to type in your wifi passcode. If you have a long passcode, be prepared to take a few minutes to type it in via this complicated method. Other than that, the receiver seems to do a very good job at all the inputs I've tested. The sound is slightly bright through my Klipsch bookshelves, but I attribute that to modest low-end that will be addressed through a subwoofer on order. The amplifier produces more than enough power to easily drive the Klipsch to very high levels in a 20 x20 x10 foot room, so I don't see any need for external amplification in the future. Overall, this is a very good receiver for those who want two-channel (plus subwoofer) sound and the ability to upgrade to 4k TV as well.
Pros: Ample power to drive efficient speakers Easy to set up (except for wifi) Easy to navigate among inputs Good clean sound through all inputs
Cons: Difficult process to enter wifi password without TV interface

Tony from Guam, USA on 6/20/2020
I purchased this AVR to replace an Onkyo multi-channel AVR. It loss the right-channel sound after only 14 months. I could have sent it in for warranty. Did not because I wanted something more basic. This Denon AVR is very powerful, and has excellent imaging. I dont' miss having a center channel. Its awesome. I am running Warfedale diamond 220s which really like the power this AVR gives. Also my two sub-woofers really add excellent balance for music and movies. I am very glad I chose this unit! Well worth the price, it is an excellent value!
Pros: Excellent power!
Cons: Must pay close attention to manual to learn certain functions... (OPTION button ((on remote)) for VIDEO select mode)

I really enjoy the sound of this receiver and have it connected to my TV and now am experimenting with HEOS and TUNEIN radio. I suggest looking at some YouTube videos on this receiver to understand more of the features and how they work. I didnt care about surround sound for the 11x20ish room I am using. This is an upgrde for me from 20th century equipment, Next up new bookshelf speakers.
Pros: Clean sound, lots of HDMI connections,HEOS and Bluetooth
Cons: Denon provides a sparse manual with enough info to set up but it could be more informative. Be careful of the antennas when setting up or adding components

Hooked up easily to my network and works well with Alexa. It does what it was intended. Crutchfield staff helped me pick this component over email and phone and I am happy with the choice.
Pros: Easy setup
Cons: HEOS app would get 3 stars and not 5. Its manageable but does not have nearly the functionality of the Sonos app.

Old school meets new tech
Crutchfield customer from Sprngfld Gdns, NY on 6/3/2020
I've only had this receiver a week. I'm finally comfortable with it's operation. I needed a stereo receiver for music only, so the AV ones were not for me. I have a setup for surround sound already. I needed a receiver with a decent DAC , Bluetooth , WiFi , RJ45 and sufficient power at a reasonable price. Not many choices, but since this receiver has a second zone output, so I can use an external power amplifier I own to provide the extra power I desire. I have a Smart TV in the same room with my stereo setup so I have a great visual interface for this receiver. Through Bluetooth and WiFi I can stream and control music from Tidal, Spotify or another service using my phone (with installed app). The online manual is a life saver if you get stuck.
Pros: As stated above
Cons: Addition output power ( say 140w per ch) to drive vintage as well as newer high efficiency speakers. Sorry I'm old school.

I purchased this amp because other amps were out of stock, but after using this amp I am thoroughly impressed and completely satisfied with performance and sound clarity. this amp delivers. my main takeaway is that I can hear clarity in music and movies that I have simply never heard before.
Pros: - Sound clarity is much more pronounced than my previous amp, I can hear the separation of vocals and notes that I have never heard before. - Simple, easy to use interface
Cons: None.

Great two way receiver with many modern features!
Crutchfield customer from Murrieta, CA on 5/26/2020
I was this close returning this product , however giving it a chance, checking online product, contacting Crutchfield tech support etc . I finally was able to figure it out what I want it to do.That is to switch from video to music. that way I can enjoys listening to music while my deaf wife can watch closed caption/subtitles on tv simultaneous. Pay attention to the option button and click on " video select" on the remote control. That is one thing that I got stuck on. Denon DRA 800H usb port does not support is the IPod classic, so minus one star for that! For the IPod classic I had to use the headphone jack to plug into the back of RCA CD jack. The features that I like about is that I am able to plug in most of HDMI cables. (Blue Ray, Media Player, TV, CD player, etc). Paired that with Elac Debut B6, what a great combination!
Pros: HDMI cables , able to switch from video to music using options on the remote.
Cons: USB port does not support Ipod Classic.

Great wireless streaming
Crutchfield customer from Denver, CO on 5/22/2020
Great upgrade for our main floor audio. We stream music from six different iPxx devices pretty well. Using receiver to drive higher end Klipsch book shelf speakers. Likely to add Heos unit later. Denon AVR remote app is ok, but the hardware itself is pretty impressive for the price. System has much more stable connectivity on the 2.4 Ghz band of network (@ ~ 50 Mbps), as expected. Worth some experimentation to get everything running well.
Pros: Performance, price, simplicity, aesthetics
Cons: A bit finicky on our network, even with above average data plan

Neil from ATLANTA, GA on 5/20/2020
Really happy with this unit. Wanted to upgrade from a 5.1 "home theater in a box" to a higher-quality 2.1 system with a smaller footprint. This unit is perfect. It's a great balance of features for music listening and movies/TV. The menus and user interface are a little dated looking, but easy to follow and navigate. The only drawback of this unit for me is that there are only HDMI inputs - there are no analog or component video inputs. It has all the features you need for a simple, high quality 2.1 setup without unnecessary menus and buttons getting in the way.
Pros: Easy to use and set up
Cons: Only has HDMI inputs

I had to replace my 25 year old Technics receiver, so I decided to go with this model. My needs are simple: to be able to use bluetooth with my phone. I was extremely impressed that I was also able to stream a video with my phone, while using Pandora with my bluetooth. My old KLH speaker sounds great coming from this receiver. I am able to connect my old Technics dual tape player, and loved that I can attach a record player should I get one. Extremely satisfied with my purchase.

I've been looking to replace my old Stereo Reciever for months now. Combing through reviews and specs. Finally I happened across the Denon DRA-800H and decided this was the one. I mainly use my receiver for music and man does it make my 2 Boston bookshelf speakers sound amazing. I plan to upgrade them to floor speakers soon but there is a noticeable increase in audio quality from my previous receiver. Streaming from your phone is a breeze and sets up in only a few steps. The selling point for me was the addition of the HDMI ports on the back. I play TV and Playstation audio through it and it's much better quality than the built-in TV speakers. One thing to note is the receiver is very picky on HDMI chords. I had to upgrade to HDMI 2.1 cables to utilize the ports. Otherwise, you will need to run ARC out from your TV to get the HDMI to work. This took me a full night of researching so I hopefully this saves you some time during your setup. Overall I am extremely happy with this product and will likely pick up a Denon bridge for my upstairs rooms as well.
