Nikon lenses never disappoint! This little prime lens is versatile, stable, and everything you'd want in a 40mm. I highly recommend.

In the short time we have owned this we are just beginning in to see what it can do. Of course it is limited since we are figuring out our camera also. But we are please and can't wait til flowers start blooming.

Pros: Small

Cons: After awhile I'll spend more money and buy an even better one.

This camera coupled with my Nikon D5500 takes amazing closeups and portraits. The only downfall is automatic focusing in lowlight situations.

A great duel purpose lens

nikon camera guy from Fayetteville, AR on 2/26/2014

I had a 35mm Nikkor, and after doing some reading, the option of having almost the same lens was too much to resist. I wanted a micro lens and with the minute difference in focal lengths, I sold my 35mm and purchased the 40mm. Although I lost a stop or two, it still serves as a great walk around and portrait lens.

Pros: Affordable introduction into the world of micro. Lightweight but built very sturdy. Serves as a sharp everyday "walk around" lens. It's a Nikon.

Cons: Not good for getting close to living objects as butterflies or such.

Still new to me

I just learning how to use this lens. I compared it my 18 - 50 mm that came with my D3200 and the clarity was greater. I'm just not sure it was $280 better but as I stated I'm just learning how to use it.

Nice lens

Really nice close up lens for the price.

Pros: Clear, perfect auto focus.

Cons: 40mm is a bit short. You do have a 1:1 lens, but have to get really close, so close that you lose your light getting the 1:1 ratio. I believe that for the price this is a nice lens. BUT the 80mm is a lot nicer... the price is higher as well.

Great Little Lens

JR from Memphis, TN on 3/22/2012

The 40mm F2.8 macro is a good little all around lens. It is sharp wide open and sharpest around F5.6 center to edge. The angle of view is slightly more than a normal lens. It is good for close ups and general photography. Bokeh is good. The lens is small and compact and uses a 52mm filter. I bought this lens to use with D5100 and the combination is perfect for me.

Pros: Sharp Compact F2.8

Cons: None
