Audio-Technica LP-140XP
Frank from New London, NH on 12/30/2024
I had an old turntable that wouldn't spin. I found this unit and it looks the same and measures the same. It is the same make. I ordered the unit and it was sent the same day. It arrived when it was supposed to. I opened the packing and found the unit and all parts in perfect condition. I assembled and set the unit up and enjoyed my music. This company always has great service and on Christmas week to!

Great turntable
Chris from Danville, NH on 12/8/2024
Exceeded my expectations not having a turntable for more than 40 years. Quality, appearance, and ease of use and sounds awesome. If there is one thing I'd say they should improve on is the locking lever for the arm, the tab should be a little longer.

Cannot play with cover down - tonearm weight hits cover
Jeff from Livermore, CA on 11/21/2024
There is no mention in the Crutchfield description that this turntable cannot be played with the shell cover down. I would have not purchased this if I had known that. I knew that it was a DJ table with the specs I needed and thought I could use for the home. I found out the cover could not be down when playing as it skipped at the end of the record because the tone arm weight actually hit the cover as it moved towards the center of the record. Why would you have a hinged cover that cannot be down during playing? You don't want it up during playing as can pick up all kinds of background noise. Your only choice is to pull the cover completely off during playing - I guess as a DJ would. To me this is just poor engineering and design. Also, lately I have been receiving very poor customer support with Crutchfield reps that don't listen and are very arrogant. In the past I have purchased everything from home, office and auto through Crutchfield but now am looking for other places to buy. I am a sales leader and know quite well what customer support works. Crutchfield has really dropped the ball in their rep training.
Pros: Lots of options for DJ's
Cons: Need to take cover off every time record is played unless you do not mind skipping at the end as weight bounces off cover.

Best table under $500
John from Chickasaw, AL on 10/8/2024
I own a Technics 1210 Gr and its about a $1700 table. This audio technica lp 140 xp table is about 90% as good as my technics that cost almost 3 x more. This is a stellar table very good isolation and low noise floor. Plucks almost every detail out of the grooves with a audio technica vm95 ml cart upgrade. Highly reccomened this table.
Pros: Isolation and detail retrival with upgraded cart.
Cons: None

Cons: The cartridge went in the trash after the first album. I put a real cartridge on it.

Nice table for the $
Michael from ELKTON, MD on 4/23/2024
Seems well built except for feet, cue lever and lock. Like all of the dj features even though I do not use them. The supplied cart is pretty good and high output but have replaced with an AT VMN95EN which sounds a bit better but is still breaking in. Connected to a Parasound Zphono preamp and seems like a good combo. I will probably upgrade to a Technics GR or G but have been away from vinyl since I bought my first cd player in the 80's and just wanted to check out my old vinyl records. Wish Technics was still made in Japan and I would have already bought one. This has all of the functionality I was looking for and then some.
Pros: Feels heavy and well built, adjustable vta, removable rca and power cables, easy to set up.
Cons: Cheap feet, cue arm and lock

Great Turntable for the Money!
JP from PALM SPRINGS, CA on 4/18/2024
Just received my AT 140 XP Turntable. Quality is really good. Sound is so much crisper than my 14 year old Music Hall 2.2 Turntable. Easy to install. Just two issues - clip for tone arm seems a little on the cheaper side as the start stop button, otherwise very happy. Easy installation.
Pros: Great clear sound Easy installation Dust cover (easy fluid opening) Tracker Light - great for low light situations especially when u want to play a specific song. Three speeds 33, 45, 78 Robust plinth.
Cons: Start Stop Button is on cheaper side. Clip to tighten tone arm plastic also on cheap side, afraid it might break.

Best Sound You Can Get for the Money
Steve from SIERRA VISTA, AZ on 2/29/2024
I must preface this review by stating that all turntables, even the new Technics models, are susceptible to quality control issues. You must manage your expectations at this price point. Onto the at-lp140xp. The sound quality of this turntable is clean, detailed and thoroughly engaging. It brings a three dimensional sound to music. Back to managing expectations. So I had to return one at-lp140xp I ordered due to intermittent speed issues. But I knew that this wasn't typical, because I have already had a couple of at-lp140xp models. I found a new at-lp140xp in silver (which was discontinued) that Crutchfield didn't have in stock, and I wanted silver, so I had to buy it elsewhere. In closing, I noticed the at-lp140xp had perfect review ratings until just recently. That's too bad, and I felt compelled to say something. All I can say is manage your expectations at this price point. Imagine how upset you would be if you spent $2k on a turntable that sounded lifeless. Don't give up on this one.

Great turntable. Built to be a workhorse. Strong motor. Quiet. accurate speed. Lots of pro features. swapped out the DJ cartridge for a Grado Blue and made a huge difference in the sound.
Pros: Solid, quiet operation, excellent speed control, adjustable tone arm height.
Cons: No auto shut-off at the end of the record.

Todd from Watsontown, PA on 1/17/2024
It seemed like a nice solid piece and sounded pretty good. The pop up light is cheap and ineffective. But after the initial hookup I decided to reorganize my whole setup and after unplugging the power cord at the back one time it now doesn't want to make contact unless I jiggle it. And that is hit and miss. I guess you get what you pay for.
Pros: Cheap direct drive. Probably most of them work okay
Cons: Suspect quality

Great all around table
Brian from Montgomery, IL on 10/22/2023
Unless you are a DJ, you'll probably never use the pitch controls. Just leave it on quartz lock and you get rock stable speeds. I upgraded the cartridge to my Goldring E3 and this sounds so much better than the same cart on my Fluance R80. Very happy with this purchase.
Pros: Stable speeds Heavy construction to reduce vibrations. Easy cart swaps with 1/2 inch universal headshell.
Cons: No auto stop or auto lift at the end of the record.

Audio-Technica LP-140XP
Crutchfield customer from Dunlap, IA on 8/28/2023
Very impressed with Crutchfield's service. Thank you! The LP-140XP replaced a 40 yr old linear tracking direct drive with a great Stanton stylus. I'm very impressed with the Audio-Technica. It is a heavy-duty table and easy to put together. Some reviews may say to upgrade the stylus but I've found the one which comes is quite adequate for my listening needs. I have about 500 lps and the sound is outstanding. I will be ordering more from Crutchfield.
Pros: Heavy duty platter to remove all noise. Great looking addition to go along with my components. Great value for the money. Pretty simple to put together.
Cons: On-Off control feels a little cheap. I wonder on such a well-built piece why they don't have a heavier on switch??

Excellent Turnrable!
Alexander from San Francisco on 7/29/2023
I was looking for a direct drive turntable to get back into vinyl. This does not disappoint. The sound has a touch of warmth and the sound stage is fantastic. Good instrument separation and not overly bright in the highs. The stock cartridge is pretty good but swapped it out for the 540ML/H. The 540 really opened things up. This table in combination with the 540ML is well worth it.

Live up to the hype and great reviews
Randall from Brick, NJ on 7/16/2023
This is an excellent sounding table, especially for the money. I've owned the Technics GR and now also own the G. The LP-140XP is not as good as the G, especially in terms of build and isolation, but it offers similar operational functions, i.e. direct drive, adjustable VTA, and has a very firm sound with excellent clarity/separation like the G (though not quite as good of course). The que lever is quite wonky and has a very short range of motion (the lever itself), but it has good down dampening and touches down very gently, which is what I like. Tonally, the 140XP has a really nice touch of warmth, whereas the G and GR are more neutral tonally. The S/N ratio of 50dB is not nearly as good as the G or GR, but it's not embarrassing at all. Now, I'm not using the stock headshell or cartridge (or mat), but instead using the VM760SLC on a DS Audio HS-001 headshell -- both of which are pretty high end, so keep that in mind. All in all though, this thing just plain sounds really good, is well built, and is thoroughly enjoyable to listen to. If you can't afford a Technics G or GR (or even the 100c), this is the table to get for sure. Highly recommended.
Pros: Great sound. A touch of warmth, but very firm too.
Cons: Cue lever is wonky and doesn't have a very good feel.

Solid, very well built turntable
Patricia from Kelso, WA on 3/31/2023
I purchased this as a replacement to an Audio-Technica I had literally wore out from 2010. This is almost the same model, but with noticeable upgrades: More solid base and tonearm, the running lights are now near ultraviolet instead of red, and it cues very solidly. Balanced a new cartridge very quickly, and this unit runs beautifully. I could not have asked for a better unit at this price.
Pros: Designed for DJ's, but an extremely solid manual home unit.
Cons: Unit comes with a ground wire attached to RCA's, that unfortunately are 3 ft. You might have to rearrange your layout to accommodate the turntable, as I did.

Audio Technica LP-140XP turntable
Robert from Loudon, TN on 2/5/2023
I love this turntable. The Audio Technica AT-XP3 cartridge that came with the turntable isn't bad but I installed the Audio Technica AT-VM95SH cartridge with the shibata stylus and I was amazed at the improvement over the AT-XP3. I also own a Technics SL-1210GR and a SL-1500C and I actually prefer the Audio Technica LP-140XP over both of them.

Enjoying Vinyl Again on New Turntable!
Crutchfield customer from LEXINGTON, KY on 1/12/2023
Very pleased with this direct drive turntable. Sturdy and well-built. Not some flimsy effort with an external belt that could ensnare a long beard or a neck tie! The conical cartridge, AT-XP3 is only $59 new but surprising good! I'm not a DJ but I like some of the DJ options. Using for home listening and running through a 1972 vintage receiver and 1979 speakers. The sound is sublime and this LP-140XP is providing hours of enjoyment. One day I'll upgrade the cartridge - a Youtube reviewer informs us that with an Ortofon 2M Black cartridge the reviewer could tell no difference between this $500 LP-140XP and the $4000 Technics 1210GAE. All very encouraging and good to know but I'll not be buying that Ortofon $700 cartridge this month. Or next!

Try it you'll like it
William from Southern Pines, NC on 10/12/2022
Show-stopper unit. Quiet operation but brings out so much music from vinyl I thought I was listening to brand nee albums. I was concerned about cartridge at first but no more. AT rep assured me if I got "tired" of conical stylus, it is completely replaceable with the AT95. I'm not a DJ so I don't use some of the features of the turntable. I purchased this unit because it is built like a workhorse and being direct drive, there is no belt to worry about. Crutchfield support went above and beyond expectations to help me. Couldn't be happier with the decision!
Pros: Works like a charm. Sounds terrific
Cons: None

I only played this for a couple of hours. I sounds really clear tracking and so on was easy to adjust. I played 60's and 50's rock and sounded great.
Pros: Has all of the thing that you want. Everything is tight and not loose like I have seen in other videos.
Cons: I wish the tone arm would raise at end of album.

Solid Direct Drive Turntable
James from Jackson, MS on 1/24/2022
I had to replace my old Pioneer turntable and swore: I WILL NOT get another belt drive turntable! I did my research and the Audio-Technica turntables had good reviews. I've been well pleased with it. It's a very solid direct drive manual turntable. It's not fancy, but it sounds good, and behaves itself (plays nice) with my vintage and brand electronics.
Pros: Direct Drive
Cons: Manual Operation

Very nice unit. I have it attached to my whole house system and it is very cool to be able to hear my old vinyl throughout the house. I was intrigued by the speed dots. Almost hypnotic.
Pros: Very heavy duty and high end looking unit.

I wish I had purchased this turntable sooner. I can play my 78s with the ability to change the pitch which they were recorded. I like to cue the record drop it into the groove so the stylus doesn't get bumped out. The higher torque motor starts up incredibly fast, and the cartridge was impressive as well.

Can't get any better
Crutchfield customer from Bloomfld Hls, MI on 11/9/2020
Had a few issues when setting it up. Such as the the right channel on the cartridge did not work. I removed the connections and cleaned them with a little electronics cleaner which resolved the issue. And i went a little heavier on the cartridge weight for better initial tracking on my really old albums. After that "OMG" this was suppose to be my back up for my other $2,500 turntable. But I might move it to my main turntable. I love the cueing light!
Pros: Start Stop button and how fast it gets up to speed, Cueing light. Quiet.

I bought this turntable as an upgrade , I have an Audio Technica AT LP 120. I upgraded my amplifier then added the Audio Technica AT LP 140 ! I am very happy with this turntable, even though I do not dj with this , I use it at home ! It has a fantastic sound even with the stylus that it came with ! A very warm sound ! Love this turntable ! With the care that Audio Technica put into this turntable , I have dogs that jump around , and this turntable does not skip !! It tracks very well !! I am very satisfied with my purchase from Crutchfield !
Pros: With the stylus it came with , it tracks very well !
Cons: For those of use that use this turntable for playing the vinyl all the way threw, I recommend changing the slip mat , the one it came with is ok , it is designed for DJing ! I will be purchasing a different one eventually ! Looking into a leather mat !

Heavy Duty
Paul from Marquette, MI on 10/22/2019
This is a heavy machine compared to my last turntable. No more skips from heavy footsteps. Platter rotation is perfectly stable. I bought this for home use only despite its DJ features. The only feature I can't imagine using is the backward function. I like the standard full size power cord. The absence of a wall wart and tiny DC wire makes it feel like an actual appliance. I love the straightforward connection option, no pre amp to add noise. As an added bonus there is NO HUM! It's totally silent. The only small quirk is the cue light. It feels cheap. No big deal, but all the buttons and switches feel very solid and well made I dont understand why they didn't follow through with this feature. The conical needle sounds great despite some reviews I've found. I recommend this unit for home use. I hope it will deliver years of reliable use.
Pros: Stable platter speed, no pre amp, standard power cord
Cons: Cue light feels cheap
