Features
Transparent Acrylic Design: Assembled from transparent acrylic, the AT-LPA2 fully manual belt-drive turntable combines contemporary aesthetics with analog expertise, while remaining incredibly easy to set up and use. Audio-Technica designed the AT-LPA2 to minimize resonance, which can cause noise and distortion in the signal chain, while maximizing detailed audio reproduction of your vinyl records with crystal-clear accuracy. Not only is the acrylic beautiful, it is also an ideal material for turntable construction, greatly reducing reverberations that might otherwise affect sound clarity. The AT-LPA2 features a high-density, 30mm transparent acrylic chassis and 20mm platter to provide exceptional stability and vibration damping for pure, uncolored sound The mass of the acrylic platter also allows it to spin at a consistent speed.
Manual Belt-Drive Operation: The Audio-Technica AT-LPA2 is a fully manual belt-drive turntable with two speeds: 33-1/3 and 45 RPM. A optical sensor, positioned under the spindle, monitors platter rotation to maintain an accurate speed of 33-1/3 or 45 RPM.
Separate Power/Control Unit: To further reduce unwanted noise, Audio-Technica moved the controls and power supply into a separate unit (a feature typically found only on much more expensive turntables) thereby isolating the turntable's sensitive audio components from electrical interference associated with powering and operating the turntable's motor. This isolation ensures the quietest performance possible, so you hear only the music from your records, not electrical noise.
- The turntable's Power On/Off, 33-1/3 or 45 RPM Speed, and Start/Stop controls are found on the separate power/control unit.
- A proprietary 42" multi-pin DIN cable connects the separate power/control unit to the turntable. The separate power/control unit also comes with a 6.5' detachable AC power cord (IEC 3-prong) that will need to be plugged into an AC power wall outlet or surge protector/line-conditioner (sold separately).
- The stereo RCA outputs and ground terminal are found on the turntable and not the separate power/control unit.
Note: The separate power/control unit measures 5.25" (w) x 2.0" (h) x 10.875" (d), and weighs 2.4 lbs.
AT-OC Moving Coil (MC) Cartridge: The AT-LPA2 comes with a AT-OC9XEN moving coil cartridge, which features a nude elliptical stylus (0.3 x 0.7 mil) and high-purity PCOCC coils. The AT-OC9XEN cartridge is designed to capture every nuance of your records with stunning clarity, while providing outstanding channel separation. The lower mass of the moving coil structure (compared to moving magnet cartridges) allows the stylus to react more quickly to changes in the record groove, resulting in more detailed audio reproduction.
- Nude Elliptical Stylus: The AT-OC9XEN Dual Moving Coil cartridge with nude elliptical stylus is designed to provide outstanding channel separation. The low-mass nude elliptical stylus on an aluminum cantilever that accurately tracks the record groove.
- Pure Copper by Ohno Continuous Casting (PCOCC): The Pure Copper by Ohno Continuous Casting (PCOCC) coils ensure pure audio transmission and are aligned in a reverse V-shaped formation to exert less pressure on the stylus, thereby minimizing distortion.
- Rigid Aluminum Body: Audio quality is further enhanced by a rigid aluminum body that reduces resonance, a neodymium magnet and pure iron yoke that increase the magnetic energy.
Notes:
- The cartridge’s low (0.35 mV) output voltage requires the use of a step-up transformer or moving coil phono preamp to boost the signal.
- The AT-OC9XEN’s stylus assembly is not field-replaceable, but Audio-Technica offers a fee-based Moving Coil Exchange Program to properly service your moving coil cartridge.
Carbon-Fiber Tonearm with Exclusive Machined-Aluminum Headshell: The cartridge comes mounted to an exclusive machined-aluminum headshell with azimuth adjustment, that attaches to the straight, carbon-fiber tonearm. Engineered specifically for this turntable, the new 8.8" tonearm also offers VTA adjustment. The lightweight, anti-resonant tonearm tracks smoothly and precisely, utilizing a highly accurate, finely adjustable string-type anti-skate mechanism to counteract any inward pull and maintain proper channel balance. In addition, the tonearm includes two counterweight options (110g and 130g) to allow you to use a wide variety of other cartridges, should you so choose.
Stereo RCA Outputs & Ground Terminal: The turntable (not the separate power/control unit) is outfitted with a set of stereo RCA outputs and a ground terminal. A 45" stereo RCA cable and 43" ground wire are included to connect to the MC phono input of your preamp, integrated amp, or stereo receiver. Because the AT-LPA2 comes with a moving coil (MC) cartridge with low output voltage (0.35 mV) your preamplifier, amplifier, or receiver will need a Phono MC input (not a Phono MM or line-level input). If your preamplifier, amplifier, or receiver does not included a Phono MC input, you'll need a separate Phono MC preamp (sold separately - see Accessories Tab).
Heavy-Duty Adjustable Feet: The Audio-Technica AT-LPA2 employs exclusively designed heavy-duty, height-adjustable feet to isolate the fully manual belt-drive turntable from vibration.
Dust Cover: A clear acrylic dust cover is included to protect the turntable from dust build up. The dust cover is hinged and removable.
