Dual Moving Magnet Stereo Cartridge: The VM530EN is a top-end elliptical stylus cartridge in Audio-Technica's new VM cartridge line. Like all VM cartridges, the VM530EN is equipped with dual magnets that are positioned to match the left and right channels in the stereo record groove for outstanding channel separation and extended frequency response. Can I purchase and what would be the cost for a VM530EN cartridge mounted/aligned on an at-HS4 headshell for my at-LPW40WN turntable?

Sadly we do not mount custom cartridge/headshell combinations Don, but we can talk you through it with our lifetime free Technical Support! This combo for the VM530EN with straight headshell and your LPW40WN deck would not be ideal though also Don. You have the 45 degree headshell and straight tone arm on your AudioTechnica turntable as I'm sure you noticed! This AT-HS3 in the handy link below is the equivalent to the HS-4 that we carry that is useable for your setup. I'm going to replace the stock cartridge that came with my Music Hall MMF 1.3. Looking at the Audio Technical VM530EN/H w/head shell. Will I be able to plug and play or will adjustments have to be made? If so, should I just buy the cartridge without head shell? Thanks

It's an excellent full spectrum cartridge, but if you want plug and play you'll need to buy it with the headshell. If you buy just the cartridge you have to do a lot of adjustments and alignments that are already done with it mounted on the shell. You MUST however set the weight for the needle on the record, and set it at 2 grams, period. If you don't have a scale, get one. You'll need it for every single cartridge change! And don't get a cheap one, I bought a Riverstone audio digital scale for around $40, and it's incredibly accurate. It comes in a metal box and has two weights to calibrate it with. It's well worth the few extra dollars compared to a cheaper, less accurate scale.

All I did with my cartridge was plug it into the arm of my Pioneer turntable and let her rip. I had to make adjustments for the skipping etc.
