I purchased this product so I could begin the long-delayed project of digitizing my collection of early 1900s 78 rpm records. The sound quality is amazing through the Audio-Technica LP120XUSB turntable, also from Crutchfield. I am very pleased with the entire purchase. I use Audacity software downloaded separately.
Pros: Superb sound reproduction from the very old 78 rpm records without the wear and tear from the steel needles used by my Victrola mechanical player.

Excellent mid-price solution.

This is an excellent mid-price solution for proper playback of 78RPM records. The 5-gram recommended tracking force is just right not only for this cartridge but necessary for any cartridge playing back 78's. Beware of other cartridges with lower recommended tracking weights as my experience is that no matter how good your arm is, they won't track the often abysmal physical condition that so many 78's are in. Another modern cartridge at its much lower recommended force bounced all over some of the records. Although the arm sometimes wobbled a lot, I played about 40 78's in a row with never a skip with this cartridge. Also, I was very surprised at how quiet the background noise became with 78's in very good condition. Just a barely audible soft 'swish' with no clicks or pops. Many of my 33RPM's are noisier than this. It allows one to concentrate on the music which is what this hobby is all about!

This little Gem allows me to hear my great Uncle's 78s from the early 1900s (that I inherited) that were originally played on the wind up "RCA Victor talking machine" company phonograph. That's what's printed on some of the labels. What a great time capsule revealed thanks to that great AT VM670SP stylus!
Pros: Excellent stylus for that great old tone/sound of those old 78s. Crutchfield tech support came to the rescue!
Cons: Instructions could be written better. Screws were hidden deep in packaging. Had to call tech support to find them nothing in the instructions about the screws being furnished.

Working really well on my Dual 1219 to play 78's! Swapping out to the AT-VM520 which is solid as well.
Pros: Great sound! No need to jury rig the mono playback
Cons: None

Not many options for 78rpm and this one does the trick. I bought an additional cartridge head after I got it to make swapping between with the 33rpm head much faster and easier. That's probably a must have for any system or you'll be unscrewing it each time and for me it adds 10-plus minutes. My 50-90 year-old 78s never sounded so good and I know I'm taking better care of them / they'll last longer using the right needle.
