Great speaker for retrofitting
Crutchfield customer from Lancaster, CA on 4/20/2025
Fits my 70 mustang dash well. Sounds good and works well with the alpine 60W amplifier. Had to fade sound to the rear by a good bit for more balanced sound.

Ok if you don't need volume
I purchased the R-57 after returning a D572. Turns out neither speaker can tolerate sufficient volume to be useful while driving. Sitting in a garage at idle, either speaker is fine. However, with road noise and engine noise in an open top car, the volume necessary to hear the radio exceeds the volume that results in such severe distortion that it is not possible to listen. I am using a stock 1968 radio. Nothing fancy. I wasn't looking for fine sound, just adequate quality at a useful volume to listen to the radio. Not even listening to music. Just the news. However, to get to a sufficient volume while driving, the distortion is too much. Maybe this would work in a closed car, but not with the top down on an old, but fine-running, car. I needed a 5x7 speaker - that's all the room I have for a single speaker - and I needed one that could take 8 ohms - I used the jumper included. But, I can't use the speaker... So, if you need to get any volume out of your speaker, beware that 5x7s from Retro may well not provide it. Other than that, it fits. It plays fine at low volume. As long as I don't want to listen while driving, I suppose it's fine. And I'm stuck with it since I have already paid to return one and am not inclined to keep paying for returns. It fits nicely in its shipping box.
Pros: It can tolerate 8 ohms. It fits.
Cons: Can't be used when driving (a convertible) because the distortion is intolerable at a volume necessary to hear.

Choices are really limited for a classic truck dash speaker with dual voice coils. The Retrosound R-57N fit the bill for my criteria: dual voice coil, full range and be a close fit for the opening. The fit in my 64 F-100 wasn't an exact line up with my factory dash grill but close enough that a 1/4" plastic spacer and weather strip foam to seal it to the dash mounted it up nicely. But how does it sound? Surprisingly good especially for a single 5x7. It's loud enough overcome highway noise with ease. Has good mid-bass and decent highs. I've been listening to it for a couple of weeks driving back and forth to work and it definitely makes the drive better. If I could change one thing it would be better tweeters to make the highs smoother but for under $80 I am not at all disappointed.
Pros: Good mid-bass Strong output Left and right channels in my factory single dash opening
Cons: The highs are a little harsh

Very good speaker. Purchased for 68 Ford Truck so this is the only speaker in the truck and I am very pleased with the quality and sound it produces.

Good speaker - Wish it had more bass
RUSSELL from SMITHTOWN, NY on 11/8/2021
1960 Chevrolet Pickup
Much better than my (as I discovered) blown out speakers this replaced. I wish this speaker handled bass a little better. Seems the two 4 1/4" speakers that were replaced handled the bass a little better. The speaker is not as heavy as I would expect. Seems the magnet is quite small. I guess my plan is to add a sub-woofer somewhere in my truck because I feel this speaker handles the treble and mid-range great. Truthfully, I did not expect much bass out of this one speaker, so I gave it 4 out of 5 stars. I know they cannot expect the speaker to fit all vehicles, but I wish it came with more to help you install it. I had to come up with some very creative ways to install it into my 1960 Chevy pickup.
Pros: Sounds good.
Cons: Not enough supplied to install the speaker. Speaker seems lighter than you would expect.

Sounds great in this '74 F250 coupled with some full range speakers behind the seat. Not much low end without additional speakers. Really brings life to the old girl. Mounting on the speaker is a little wider than the original holes but comes with longer bolts so I made it work and just put them at an angle to reach the mounting holes on the speaker.
Pros: Stereo sound Decent quality
Cons: Mounting holes not perfect for my application

The right tool for the job but lost 3 stars because the small panel that holds the wires came off on one side. I have a strip of gorilla tape holding it on now. Speaker sounds good for its size.

Speaker works great but the terminals could use a bit of help. I bent one of the terminals a few times trying to get the included wiring pushed on, but as long as you are gentle it works just fine. Biggest issue was not being offered the "Universal Mounting Bracket" from Crutchfield during the ordering process. The kit is just a piece of thin stamped metal (the bracket), one bolt to hold the bracket to the speaker, and two self tapping screws to mount the bracket to the chassis. The problem is, unless you already have somewhere that this speaker will bolt in directly it's pretty much useless without the bracket kit. For some reason it wasn't offered from Crutchfield and I found out after attempting the install, which added 3 days to my schedule. In any case, do yourself a favor and order Retrosound RS-UB1KT or you'll be wasting a few days too.
Pros: Great speaker
Cons: Doesn't come with required mounting bracket

Kraco stereo lives to play another day!
Mike from Bergen County, NJ on 7/20/2018

Replaced the single in-dash speaker in a '73 F250. For the price and convenience this speaker is definitely a really good choice. Much better than the ripped, blown out speaker that was in there. Now if I could just find some cassettes for the Kraco stereo... I'll be stylin'
Pros: 1. It's a tight, tight fit with the original mounting screws, but it does fit with zero modifications. 2. I can use the balance knob and get a response
Cons: 1. With a Kraco AM/FM Cassette stereo that uses a common ground... I can't complain 2. The adjustable mounting bracket was missing from my packaging, but luckily I didn't need it

It wasn't a perfect fit, but I improvised with the metal strap and made it fit. After considerable internet search, this was probably the closet replacement I could've found. It sounds great with my Kenwood radio/cd unit. Thanks. Overall, a good buy for my 1977 Ford pickup.

this is a great replacement for a 50 year old factory speaker. Sound is loud and clear. It allows me to retain the factory appearance on my 1965 MGB.
Pros: this speaker allows stereo performance from 1 speaker. Perfect for and older Mono car, with an updated head unit.
Cons: I had to drill out the mounting holes a little. Not really a con,

Fit right in my 1984 F150. Did have to bend a couple of the terminals in order to drop in. Sounds ok, way better than the original but not incredible.
Pros: Fits.
Cons: Not as clear as I expected.

Although lacking in some bass and fulness of sound, it's a good solution to the single speaker location found in my old MG. Car noise prohibits any real sound system anyway. Serves my circumstances perfectly.

Retro Speaker in 66 Bronco
Brian from West, TX on 7/5/2013
This speaker replaced a single in dash speaker in a 66 Bronco. Paired with a retro sound radio this speaker sounds pretty good. I am happy with the purchase and would recommend it for a single dash speaker replacement. The adjustable mounting bracket works great.
Pros: Fits great in dash of 66 Bronco.

Tinny
I replaced a single center dash mono speaker so compared to that this is way better. In playing it with the Retrosound Model 2 I bought with it though it sounds pretty tinny. Maybe I just haven't found the right DSP setup on the radio yet. I wasn't expecting it to sound as good as a pair of nice speaker and I didn't have any other real choices so I gave it 3 stars.
Pros: Easy install, with lots of options to make it fit. Dual voice voila
Cons: Sounds tinny to me

Too bad this speaker is the only available dual voice coil for older cars and trucks. It works and is definately in better shape than the one I removed from my 1979 F-150 but it seems to be lacking in clear highs and fullness in sound. I don't know, I'm no stereo expert, but I have a RetroSound stereo driving this speaker in the dash and a 6 1/2" speaker in each door and the 5x7 sounds weak...It works though.
