    Android Auto & Apple CarPlay

Wired or Wireless Android Auto: The Dual DCPA723W digital multimedia receiver supports Android Auto with select Android smartphones using a wireless or wired connection. A Google or Samsung smartphone with Android OS 10.0+ or any smartphone with Android OS 11.0+ and 5GHz WiFi can utilize Android Auto Wireless with the Dual receiver using the latest version of the Android Auto app, plus a WiFi and Bluetooth connection. Android smartphones running Oreo 8.0 or newer can also be hardwired to the Dual receiver via USB and Bluetooth. Android Auto brings the most useful apps of your Android smartphone to the Dual in-dash receiver, making it easier for you to keep your main focus on driving. You can control things like navigation maps, phone calls, text messages, music, and more using the head unit's touchscreen or your voice and Google Assistant. With large touchscreen icons, a simplified user interface, and the Google Assistant, it's designed to minimize distraction so you can stay focused on the road. Click here to learn more about Android Auto and to see what phones are compatible

    • Google Assistant: With Google Assistant on Android Auto, you can keep your eyes on the road and your hands on the wheel while using your voice to help you with your daily commute. Simply say, "Ok Google" or press the mic button to activate the Google Assistant. Use the Google Assistant to make a call, send a message, reply to a message, get driving directions, or listen to music.
    • Navigation Maps: Use Google Maps to get where you're going with on-screen maps, voice-guided navigation, live traffic information, lane guidance, and more. You can use the unit's touchscreen or Google Assistant to select your destination and route. If you prefer, you can switch over to a simpler version of the community-based Waze navigation app (version 4.27 or higher).
    • Calls & Messages: Android Auto's Google Assistant lets you stay connected while you're driving. The Google Assistant lets you use voice commands to call phone numbers and your favorite contacts, as well as read-reply-send text messages; all while keeping your hands on the wheel.
    • Music Apps: Android Auto gives you access to your Android smartphone's music library via YouTube Music. You'll be able to browse music like you do on your smartphone with song/artist information display and album art. Use the receiver's touchscreen or the Google Assistant to select songs, artists, albums, or playlists. You also get access to select music apps on your Android smartphone; including Amazon Music, Tidal, Pandora, Spotify, iHeart Radio, Slacker Radio, Tune-In, and more. Music apps include song and station browsing, plus song/artist information and album art or station logo. Click here for a list of all compatible app for Android Auto.

    Notes:

    • The initial setup for Android Auto requires that your vehicle be stopped and in park or have the parking brake engaged.
    • If you choose to use a wired connection, make sure to use the USB port labeled "CarPlay/Android Auto" and a USB cable that is under 6' long and avoid using any extension cable.
    • Any other devices connected via Bluetooth will be disconnected during Android Auto use.
    • You can only connect one Apple CarPlay or one Android Auto device at a time (cannot connect both).

Wired or Wireless Apple CarPlay: Apple CarPlay is a smarter, safer way to use your Apple iPhone in your vehicle. Your iPhone can be connected to the Dual DCPA723W wirelessly via WiFi + Bluetooth, or hardwired via USB. An iPhone 6S or newer (running iOS 9.0+) is required for a wireless connection, while an iPhone 6S or newer (running iOS 7.1+) is required for a hardwired connection. CarPlay takes the things you want to do with your iPhone while driving and puts them right on the display of the in-dash receiver. You can use the head unit's touchscreen or your voice and Siri to get directions, make calls, send and receive messages, and listen to music - all in a way that allows you to stay focused on the road.

    • Maps: Apple Maps will be mirrored on the screen, including traffic information and estimated time to destination. Use the head unit's touchscreen or ask Siri to get turn-by-turn directions. You can search by address, favorites, recents, points-of-interest, and more. CarPlay can even predict where you most likely want to go using addresses from your email, text messages, contacts, and calendars. You can also choose to navigate via Google Maps or Waze instead of CarPlay. Google Maps and Waze do not support Siri voice control, but will have their own proprietary voice control function which has to be accessed through a touchscreen icon on the receiver.
    • Phone: Use the head unit's touchscreen or ask Siri to make calls, return missed calls, and listen to voicemail messages. Caller ID information will be displayed on the receiver's touchscreen. You'll carry on your side of the conversation through the included microphone, while the other party is heard through your vehicle's speakers.
    • Messages: Ask Siri to send, read, and reply to text messages. This hands-free operation minimizes distraction and allows you to keep hands on the wheel and eyes on the road. Text messages cannot be read or typed from the head unit's touchscreen to prevent driver distraction.
    • Music: You can access music by artist, song, playlist, and more through the receiver's touchscreen or via Siri. The receiver will display artist/song/album information (including album art in the background). You can access your iPhone's iTunes music library, as well as Apple Music. In addition, you can access other music apps that you have on your iPhone; including Amazon Music, Tidal, Pandora, Spotify, iHeart Radio, TuneIn Radio, SiriusXM, Slacker Radio, & more.
    • Apple HomeKit: CarPlay now supports control of Apple HomeKit enabled devices (sold separately) through Siri. Using CarPlay in your vehicle, you can ask Siri to close or open your garage door, turn on or off home lighting, increase or decrease the temperature of your  thermostat, as well as control select functions of other Apple HomeKit enabled devices and appliances. Click here for a list of compatible Apple HomeKit products.
    • Other Applications: In addition to navigation and music apps, Apple CarPlay supports a variety of other applications ranging from Podcasts, Audiobooks, Sports, News, Weather, and More.

    Notes:

    • If you choose to use a wired connection, make sure to use the USB port labeled "CarPlay/Android Auto" and an Apple Certified cable that is under 6' long.
    • When CarPlay is in use, the unit's Bluetooth will turn off automatically and hands-free phone functionality will operate through CarPlay. Any other devices connected via Bluetooth will be disconnected during CarPlay use.
    • You can only connect one Apple CarPlay or one Android Auto device at a time (cannot connect both).

GPS Antenna: The included GPS antenna must be installed for wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay to function. The GPS antenna can be mounted inside the front of vehicle on the dash using the included self-adhesive pad.

Cellular & Data Plan Requirements: Access to CarPlay and Android Auto apps will depend on the availability of a cellular and/or WiFi network for purposes of allowing your iPhone or Android smartphone to connect to the Internet. Your compatible Apple or Android device will need an active Data Plan account with connection to the Internet via 3G, EDGE, LTE (4G), or WiFi.

Smartphone Charging: The Dual DCPA723W will also charge your Android Auto compatible Android smartphone or Apple CarPlay compatible iPhone while connected via the rear-panel USB (5V/2.1A) with the vehicle's ignition switch set to the 'ACC' or 'On' position.

    Built-in Bluetooth

Bluetooth Technology: The Dual DCPA723W is equipped with built-in Bluetooth 5.0, allowing you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver; as well as stream music wirelessly from your smartphone to the head unit. In order to use Bluetooth wireless technology, your phone must also be Bluetooth compatible and be able to interpret certain profiles. This unit is compatible with the following Bluetooth Profiles:

    • Hands-Free Communication: HFP (Hands Free Profile), PBAP (Phone Book Access Profile).
    • Audio Streaming: A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile), AVRCP (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile).

Multi-Device Pairing: Before using the unit's Bluetooth functions, you must pair your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone or audio device to the DCPA723W. You can pair up to five Bluetooth-enabled devices to the Dual head unit, but only one can be used at a time. When an already paired Bluetooth device is in close proximity to the receiver, the auto connection function automatically connects the device and receiver.

Hands-Free Communication (w/ external mic): The DCPA723W supports Bluetooth hands-free communication from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone. You can answer and make a call from the head unit's touchscreen, so you can carry on a phone conversation hands-free. The included external microphone carries on your side of the conversation while your car's speakers are used to hear the other person.

    • Answering A Call: During an incoming call, the caller's phone number or assigned contact name will be seen on the unit's LCD and a ring-tone will be heard through your car stereo speakers. You can then manually answer the incoming call from the head unit's touchscreen. You can also set the unit to automatically answer an incoming call within 5 seconds. Any audio playback will be muted during a call. You can even reject an incoming call using the DCPA723W, so the call will revert to your phone's voice mail.
    • Making A Call: You can make a call using the Dual in-dash head unit's touchscreen controls. Outgoing calls can be made be entering telephone numbers directly via the head unit's touchscreen keypad. You can also make a call from your phone's transferred phonebook using the Dual DCPA723W's touchscreen. In addition, you can use the receiver's call log (which consists of dialed numbers, received call, and missed calls) to make a call from the DCPA723W's touchscreen.

Wireless Audio Streaming: The Dual DCPA723W allows you to play back stored music and music apps from your Bluetooth enabled smartphone, tablet, or audio player. You can control basic music playback functions (Play/Pause, Previous/Next Track) from the DCPA723W. Advanced music navigation will still need to be done through your Bluetooth mobile device. This unit will also display song/artist/album text information (no album art) from a connected Bluetooth audio device. When an incoming call or outgoing call is in progress from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, audio streaming will be paused so you can take your call. Once the call is finished, your streaming music will resume.

    USB + AV Connectivity

USB MSC Playback: The Dual DCPA723W is equipped with a rear-panel USB-A 2.0 port attached to rear-chassis via 38" cable (labeled "USB/Charging) that supports connection of a USB MSC (mass storage class) device formatted in FAT 16/FAT 32 for playback of a music and audio files. The Dual DCPA723W supports playback of MP3 (up to 320kbps) and FLAC (up to 48kHz) music files. The unit can recognize up to 2000 total files, 200 folders, and 2000 files per folder.

    • Control: During USB playback, you can access a list of all files and folders on a device. You can also control Play/Pause, Previous/Next Track, and Repeat/Random functions.
    • Display: The unit's touchscreen monitor will display song/artist/album information (no album art) of music files loaded on a USB MSC device.
    • Charging: The USB port (5V/2.1A) will charge the battery of a connected electronic mobile device, when the radio and your vehicle is turned on.

    Notes:

    • The USB port labeled "USB/Charging" does not support the connection of USB-hubs or card-readers.
    • The USB port labeled "CarPlay/Android Auto" does not support USB MSC playback.

Dual Camera Inputs: The DCPA723W is outfitted with two composite video camera inputs for connecting rear-view and front-view cameras (sold separately - see Accessories Tab) in order to display the areas in front of and behind your vehicle on the head unit's touchscreen. The rear-view and front-view camera feature is meant as a driving aid only; never solely rely on the cameras when maneuvering your vehicle. In addition to using the rear and front cameras, always look around you to make sure everything is clear when driving your vehicle.

    • Backup Camera Input:When an optional backup camera is connected to this unit, the rearview image is displayed on the screen when your vehicle is placed in reverse gear (the Reverse Gear wire of radio's harness must be connected to the reverse light wire of vehicle). Automatic video switching takes approximately 1.1 seconds. The backup camera input can also be accessed manually from the head unit's touchscreen monitor. *The unit does not offer park assist guidelines for the backup camera.
    • Front Camera Input: The front camera input can be accessed from the touchscreen LCD monitor's on-screen menu. The front camera input will display on the digital media receiver's LCD monitor and remain on display until you deactivate the front camera input.

AV Input: The Dual DCPA723W digital multimedia receiver features a rear-panel AV input which consists of a composite video jack and stereo RCA jacks for connecting an external audio/video source, such as a DVD player or game console. In order to display video, the parking brake wire of the harness must be connected to the vehicle's parking brake light circuit, and the vehicle's parking brake must be engaged. *The Dual DCPA723W does not offer an audio/video output.

    • Maximum Power Output: 60 watts x 4 channels (240 watts total)

4V/6Ch Preamp Outputs + Subwoofer Control: The Dual DCPA723W is outfitted with six 4.0-volt preamp outputs (Front/Rear/Sub). The front and rear channels are fading, while the subwoofer output is non-fading with a separate level control (0-14).

A different EQ setting can be stored for each source.

AM/FM Tuner: The Dual DCPA723W features a built-in AM/FM tuner with manual seek, direct, and preset tuning. You can store up to 18 FM stations and 12 AM stations for a total of 30 presets. Touchscreen + Steering Wheel Control

7" Capacitive Touchscreen Monitor: The Dual DCPA723W features a 7" capacitive touchscreen LCD monitor with LED backlight and a resolution of 1,152,000. The 7" capacitive touchscreen monitor makes it easy to see the receiver's on-screen menu and information, as well as operate the receiver's functions and browse your music.

    • Screen Adjustment: You can choose between 3 preset background wallpapers for the 7" touchscreen monitor. You can set the LCD monitor's dimmer mode to Auto, Day, or Night. The Day mode brightens the display, while the Night mode dims the display. Auto mode changes the brightness level from Day or Night automatically when you turn on and off your vehicle's headlights. You can choose between 6 preset colors (Red, Amber, Green, Blue, Purple, and White) for the button illumination.

Optional Steering Wheel Control: The head unit features a SWC (steering wheel control) input which lets you keep your vehicle's factory radio steering wheel remote controls when used with an optional Metra or PAC steering wheel control adapter (sold separately).

Beep Tones: An audible beep tone confirms each function selection. The beep tone can be disabled/enabled in the Setup Menu.

    Q
Dual DCPA723W, I have a 2020 Tacoma SR, my truck does not have MAPS, my phone has Google Maps, can the phone maps be displayed on this DCPA723W?
    tim  Jun 21, 2025
    1 answer
    A
Hey Tim, thanks for the question. So yes, this Dual radio has both wired and wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, meaning once your phone is connected to the radio via USB or wirelessly, your compatible apps like Google Maps will pop up on the screen of your radio for your maps to display on your radio while it uses your phones cellular data to process those maps and updates.
    red  Jun 22, 2025 (Staff)
    Q
What is the external GPS for? The unit came with a small GPS puck that connects to a GPS port on the back of the unit. But there is no GPS function in the software.
    david  Mar 27, 2025
    1 answer
    A
Hey David, that is for the navigation associated with the Apple Carplay and Android Auto functionality. Since you can use apps like Google Maps or Waze with this Dual and have the maps display on your screen, that GPS antenna is there to ensure your connection stays stable rather than bouncing all over the map when you find yourself between two cell towers using your data.

    jake  Mar 25, 2025
    1 answer
    A
It has a lot of RCA connections for various purposes like audio outputs, inputs, and some for video connections. I recommend contacting a product advisor by calling 1-800-324-9695 to check if it has RCA connections that can be used for your purposes.

    Q
It says it has to be hardwired into the parking brake on 2001 Toyota Tacoma double cab?
    laramie  Feb 12, 2025
    1 answer
    A
That is correct because a parking brake wire is not supplied through the OEM radio wiring making it necessary to pick it up elsewhere by tapping into the stock wiring and running it back to the radio.

    Q
If I purchase the lowest installation package with this unit, will I lose any sound quality or volume from the Bose speaker setup in my 2009 Maxima? Also, does this installation kit come with instruction on how to hardwire to the emergency brake? Thank you
    nathan  Nov 17, 2024
    1 answer
    A
We provide installation instructions via the Mastersheet with your radio package Nathan, no worries there. It sounds like your Maxima has no factory Navigation without the color radio screen. Using the least expensive install package recommended for the non-Navigation and monochrome screen will retain the factory Bose amplifier with the new Dual radio. Sound quality usually improves with the higher quality new radio source! You will not retain any steering wheel control button features. If you need any help choosing the right path with your install gear, give us a call at 1-800-324-9695 and a live Advisor would be happy to help!

Hi, can I set this unit to automatically continue playing music where I left off when I start the car? I run delivery and am in and out of my car a lot, turning it off and on. It would be nice if the music just started automatically every time I turn the car on. I use Spotify on an iPhone.

Hi, after installing this I'm having a strange issue with CarPlay. Music works fine, and I can talk to Siri (she can hear me). However, I do not hear Siri's replies or any navigation prompts. Also, when I make a telephone call, I cannot hear the person on the other end of the call. They can hear me fine. Anyone have ideas?

does it have a built-in mic? if not, can you hook up the mic thats built-in the vehicle?
    c  Aug 18, 2024
    1 answer
    A
This unit does not have a built in mic, but includes an external mic to run somewhere in the vehicle. As far as retaining the factory mic, this will depend largely on your vehicle but 95% of the time it will not be possible. For details on installation please contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and give you the details on what you will need for an installation.

    Q
Will this unit accept AHD video from a backup camera?
    mark  Jun 04, 2024
    1 answer
    A
Greetings Mark. Thank you for your question, and a good one at that. We dont have a lot of AHD cameras to try out ourselves, and most come with an AHD monitor. Others have dual sensors, standard and AHD. AHD can have different formats as well. I did contact one of our vendors that offers AHD cameras for mainly RVs, they said if the monitor is not a 720P monitor, the picture could possibly be down converted, or even just show up, as a black and white picture. He recommended a special AHD monitor. The Dual screen is 480P, so I'm going to have to go with a no on this.

Do I need a heat gun or a soldering gun to install this?
    carrington l  Apr 15, 2024
    1 answer
    A
Hey Carrington, thanks for the question. So when it comes to installing a radio, you will need to typically get the wires coming off this headunit connected to an install harness and that can be done with a soldering iron or with something as simple as wire crimps. We also offer a service for most vehicle installations called the Ready Harness Service where we will pre-wire your radio to the installation gear for a $25 fee before we ship it out to you. If this is something that interests you, we have advisors who can be reached by calling 1-800-324-9695 that can help recommend the best installation package for your vehicle.

Please enter your Yukon's exact details into our online Vehicle Guide in the link below, Mike. What do I need to add sirus xm radio to the Dual DCPA723W?
    tom  Mar 25, 2024
    1 answer

Hey Thomas, so that Dual radio is not satellite radio ready when it comes to adding a tuner and antenna to the mix. That being said, this unit does have Apple Carplay and Android Auto, so you can get the SXM app on your phone and run your subscription that way.

Must I buy the installation packet in order to plug the factory backup camera into the unit?
    thanh  Mar 22, 2024
    1 answer
    A
Greetings Thanh. Thank you for your question. The factory backup camera will not plug into an aftermarket stereo without some sort of adapter. Which for a lot of vehicles would be part of the installation package. If you already have all the install gear, and just need a camera adapter, please contact one of our advisors with your vehicle information at 800-324-9695.

    Q
Is the harness that you buy additionally for install a plug and play fit? Or will i need to cut wires to make this work.
    dustin  Mar 03, 2024
    1 answer
    A
We do not offer any plug-and-play solutions, Dustin. With most installs additional connections are needed, and we need to know your exact year, make, model, and specific trim vehicle to provide any confirmed information. When applying our ReadyHarness pre-wiring service (when available for your install) we can make as many connections as possible from the radio to your installation interface/harness before we ship your package to make install as easy as possible on your end if you plan to tackle the job yourself. We also provide detailed instructions for most vehicles, and lifetime Technical Support. If you would like us to take a look at your specific vehicle prior to purchase, do not hesitate to give us a call at 1-800-324-9695 and an Advisor would be happy to help!

Greetings Zachary. Thank you for your question. It is more budget friendly, with that its built with more budget parts. For the most part not a lot come back, has a great warranty we exchange here for a full 5 years. We carry products that we choose to carry. If we feel its not a great value for the customer, and has a high return rate, we no longer carry that product.
