Add me to the list of 5 star reviews!

Decided to try a set of these headphones so I can move around the house a bit while listening to vinyl. fortunately my turntable is wireless ready. I have had a set of upgraded wired headphones for years and been happy with the sound quality, however being compelled to sit within a few feet of my audio gear while listening became a hassle. My experience with wireless speakers has been that the sound quality suffers significantly so I did not expect to find wireless headphones to be much different. But the reviews for the Bathys were universally outstanding so I decided to try them. Results are better than expected. Sound quality and sepration/detail are better than I dared hope for, much better than my wired set. Use the app. User interface is much better with the app vs using the buttons on the cans. The EQ feature in the app is a big plus. Being able to move around while enjoying audiophile grade music justifies the fairly steep item cost.

Focal Bathys

For as long as I can recall I've been toying with the idea of purchasing a high fidelity set of headphones. I've done my research and I own several mid-level in ear and over the year models all of which seemed to do fine but lack the fine detail that I've been seeking. With the pending release of the new MG model I decided to take advantage of the savings associated with this model. I am 100% satisfied with my purchase. As usual the ordering and shipping process at Crutchfield is dead simple. The information provided on the website is clear and concise and the purchase process was simple for me these are the best sounding headphones I have ever owned. Do yourself a favor and get a pair.

Nicholas from Dunstable, MA on 2/24/2025
Love these headphones so far - Sound and look great - Very focused and not a big/open soundstage but very detailed and clear - about 80% the noise cancelling of top Sony and Bose but the better sound quality for me is worth it for my use case - I use it mostly in dac mode will full noise cancelling.
Pros: Better sound and style
Cons: Average noise canceling

Love them
Gary from Las Vegas, NV on 2/20/2025
Bought these to upgrade from my Sony WMX-1000 cans. Read all the reviews and took the plunge. Great Choice! Better sound, better soundstage, and more comfortable. The noise cancelling seems as good as my prior Sony's but let me withhold judgement until my next overseas trip. The built in DAC is just as good as my dragon fly red. I bought these "open box" and everything was perfect. Overall I am glad I took the plunge! I highly recommend these.
Pros: Built in DAC Comfort HiFi sound
Cons: None

Focal Bathy's.the REAL DEAL!
Ronald from Greenville, SC on 2/6/2025
I have a discerning ear for music. I travel 80% for my work, and listen to a lot of music on travel days, so a choice for a new ANC headphone was really important. I did a lot of investigation before purchasing the Focal Bathy's. I've also had the best of Bose & Sony (most recent). The FB's are audiophile quality, while being travel friendly as well. There is a a distinct sound advantage of the FB's. Super enthused and elated regarding my decision! If you are a true music enthusiast, the FB's deliver.
Pros: Dune color, high end sound quality!
Cons: None at this juncture.

Tight, tight, tight fit

I didn't even bother listening. They were on my head for 20 minutes during pairings, and I developed a headache because they were so, so tight. I didn't even listen to them because I knew I wasn't going to keep them because of the fit. A shame.

Cons: Tight fit gave me a headache.

I have owned many headphones over the decades. These are by far the best sounding of them all. I wanted to see if they would outperform my current B&W PX8 headphones and they absolutely do so. The sound is phenomenal listening with bluetooth but is astounding when using the built-in DAC.

Focal Bathys
Crutchfield customer from Richmond, Va on 12/5/2024
Sounds is very good. Highs are clear. Bass not overemphasized. The headband and ear muffs are comfortable but can not be worn more than an hour or two due to being uncomfortably warm. They are also bit heavy. The ability to connect digitally via the supplied cable is a definite plus as the normal Bluetooth compression is eliminated. Analog to digital compression is not required. Furthermore no DAC or amp is needed. It's handled by the headphones. I found the controls confusing. Multiple pushes required. For example pausing, playing and call functions are handled by one button using one push. Forward is two pushes, backwards is three. This is all using the same button. So there's a learning curve. I have set the EQ to dynamic as research shows it places the headphones closer to the Harmon curve. I had to exchange this pair due to an odd whooshing sound at 20% battery power. The sound eventually stopped. I contacted Focal which offered to repair them. Crutchfield stated they handle warranty issues so I exchanged them. The replacement headphones mimic the first with the same loud sound at 20%. Neither Crutchfield technical nor Focal nor the Manual can explain this phenomenon. The Crutchfield tech stated he would follow up with Focal. My belief is it is a low battery warning. I will be keeping the headphones due to performance and keep an eye out to avoid the 20% battery. Minus 2 stars for comfort and worse low bat
Pros: Sound. Better than B & W PX8s and Mark Levinsons 5909.
Cons: Weight. Cups are warm - feel good in the cold but wearing in a hot environment or gym may be a problem. Unexplained loud noise at 20% on original and replacement headphones.

Outstanding
Farid from Leesburg, VA on 9/6/2024
These headphones are comfortable and sound amazing. Love the ability to analyze your hearing and adjust accordingly to give you the best possible listening experience. EQ with ability to save your own presets is a nice touch. And while the quality using Bluetooth is very good, you can switch over to the onboard DAC mode to experience uncompromized sound from your lossless sources. I am very happy with these headphones. And the buying experience with the professionals at Crutchfield was wonderful.
Pros: Exceptional sound that can be tailored to suit your preferences. Very comfortable to wear with soft headband and earcup padding. Large earcups fit my ears! Bluetooth is great but has an onboard DAC that you can activate for superior audio.
Cons: Ears can get a little warm after extended use, but nothing that can't be solved but lifting the cups off your ears for a couple of seconds.

Excellent Sound Quality
Joe from BLACKSBURG, VA on 9/2/2024
Purchased these headphones after I had a poor experience with the Bose QC Ultra, probably due to a defect, where in wired mode I got virtually no sound and was unable to use aptX with my phone. I took them to Crutchfield in C-Ville and they were super helpful confirming my issues. I decided to go a different route and chose the Focal Bathys...couldn't be more happy. I wanted the option of Bluetooth or wired. The Bathys sound great in Bluetooth and I was able to use aptX with my phone (Pixel 9). The wired option using the onboard DAC is even better, providing a slight improvement in detail and putting into question the need for an external DAC/HF amplifier. The Bathys are heavier than other HFs I tried, but comfortable in my two hour listening sessions. If you place greater value on sound quality over ANC, you should try the Focal Bathys.
Pros: Great sound, wired and wireless Bluetooth option, onboard DAC, able to use aptX.
Cons: Heavier than other wireless options.

Everything I'd hope they'd be!
Richard from West Greenwich, RI on 7/24/2024
Everything I hoped they would be! Before buying the Bathys, I tried: Apple AirPods Max, Bose Ultra, Sony XM5. Quick comments on those others: Bose - OK, but didn't like the controls. XM5s - Ear cups not deep enough, my ears touched. Also, lots of tech I'd never use. Might be good for Android users. I am fully in the Apple ecosystem, so I figured AirPods Max would be best. They are great, but no way (really) to get lossless and hi res lossless. Once I found the Bathys, I knew they had uniquely what I wanted. The built in wired DAC mode gives access to hi res lossless music from Apple Music. But the wireless mode sounds so awesome, I rarely use the DAC mode. Happy it is there though. I have found that Atmos recordings sound just as good on the Bathys as they did on the AirPods Max. So no need for an Apple product to get the full Atmos effect. (I didn't really like the "head tracking" feature on the AirPods Max anyway.). The Focal/Naim app has some great features! The various and customizable EQ settings are great. And the Mimi "hearing test " which customizes the sound to your actual hearing ability is great. The noise cancelation seems fine to me. The others might have better "silent" mode, but I'd rather have headphones dedicated to great sound, like these! Also, I saw some comments from others about "sound leakage", which had me worried. But my wife says she doesn't hear anything when I use them next to her. Believe the expert reviews. These are the best!
Pros: Sound quality, built in DAC, Mimi hearing test personalization, EQ options in App, large, comfortable ear cups, long battery life, non-nonsense controls.
Cons: Expensive relative to other options.

Great quality, can't get headphones loud enough
Kyle from Monroe, MI on 6/24/2024
Amazing set of headphones. Only complaint, and it could be Apple, is the sound level.the headphones just don't get that loud. On a plane, while you can hear them, they don't get loud enough to fully immerse yourself in the music. I will probably be returning these (assuming Crutchfield will let me) for a pair of Mark Levinsons. I want to love these, but I really can't appreciate the quality at such a low sound level. UPDATED 6/28/24: I gave these headphones a rating of 2 stars due to the volume level being unusually low. What I subsequently found out is that in the newest version of the Iphone operating system (whatever they call it) has a function called "sound check" that essentially limits the decibels to what Apple must have determined to be a "safe" level...which for an audiophile is nowhere near a level that one would consider loud. I would like to change the rating to 5 stars as the headphones are amazing. I also felt it was important to post this new function on the iphone operating system so others can turn it off and fully experience their music!

Not just a fashion statement.
Luis from KENNEWICK, WA on 6/20/2024
I've had them for a few weeks now and so far this has been my experience. I use them for the gym and to relax at night. I can say that the sound quality is great, as soon as you pair them you hear some beautiful feedback noises not the typical low res beep or chime. After using the custom hearing test in the app my music came to life , not that it sounded bad before but this feature really made it pop. The DAC feature worked on my iPhone 15 with the provided cable and I could hear a noticeable difference from regular Bluetooth. The app is very well done and has no gimmicks, it's only a few features but they are very useful, I really like how you can dim the focal logo or just turn it off at night. The noise canceling is good enough but not the best and the transparency is very natural and seamless. Comfort was the flaw for me, they tug at my facial hair when I hang them around my neck and make my ears sore and sweaty from listening for a couple of hours, I'm used to wearing tiny air pods pro so this is gonna take a while to adapt to. I bought an open box while they were on sale so overall these are worth it to me. At full price this may be a different descision but I encourage you to give them a try.
Pros: Sound quality Build quality App is great and will tailor the sound for you. They look awesome, I caught a few people staring at them while wearing them.
Cons: Comfort is not great when using them for the gym. The included cables are regular plastic, I would've liked to see braided cables. You have to really appreciate music listening to justify the price.

Fantastic Headphones
Jeff from Rapid City, SD on 6/13/2024
These are now my favorite headphones and that's saying a lot considering I have about 70 different pair around the house. They sound that good! It sounds cliché to say, but I'm hearing things I've never heard before in my music. I feel like I'm listening right off the soundboard in the studio. Everything just sounds so real. They are very comfortable, slightly heavy, but not too bad that they cause any fatigue in wearing them. I'm impressed with the connection too. I can walk all the way around the house into my garage upstairs, downstairs and they never stutter at all. I'm really impressed with these. The only fault I can find, if it really is a fault, is they are not very forgiving with modern compressed music, but if you have a well recorded track, you're gonna love disappearing into the music with these.
Pros: Sound quality, bluetooth connection, and comfort.

Best wireless headphone I have heard
David from Simpsonville, SC on 4/20/2024
Wonderful headphone - easily the best I wireless I have used for music. Previously I have owned the Sony XM4 and XM5 plus the Bose Ultra, QC 35, and QC 45. The Bathys are the first wireless headphone that reminds me of listening to decent speakers. Sound is balanced and warmer than a typical Focal headphone. Build quality is excellent and these are much more substantial than the plastic Sony and Bose offerings. I have tried the Bathys wireless and wired. A good pair of wired headphones like the Meze 109 still sounds better than the Bathys for me with the Meze offering more detail and depth, but the Bathys is worth the money. Really enjoying this headphone.

Michael from Highlands Ranch, CO on 3/3/2024
I wanted to upgrade from my Sennheiser Momentum 4's, so I landed on the Bathys. The sound quality is quite a bit better than the SM4's, which is to be expected given its price point. The Bathys even wowed my non-audiophile roommate with its clean, tight sound! Sure, they're a bit heavy, but the great comfort allows for long, non-fatiguing listening sessions. I believe the app is better than what the reviews crack it out to be on Apple's App store. It's many customizable EQ settings are almost as good as Sennheiser, but then again Sennheiser has by far the best app I've used so far. Being able to choose between BT and DAC mode is also super nice. Sure, you can't run the Bathys passively via DAC mode, but that's not a concern for me The build quality is fantastic. The build is so much more solid than the SM4's but then again, these are top-of-the-line commuter headphones, so that's to be expected. The clamp force is a bit more than the SM4's, so they hold steady. The pads are firm, but are quite comfortable. I think the Bathys are actually a bit more comfortable when wearing glasses than the SM4's. Overall, the comfort is stellar. The ANC is decent. It's middle-of-the-road. The SM4's probably have slightly better ANC than the Bathys, but I rather have better sound quality than [arguably] negligibly better ANC. Overall, I would 100% recommend picking these up if you have the means to do so!
Pros: There are so many pros to list, but I'll keep it all-encompassing. -Comfort -Build quality -DAC mode -App -Sound quality -Carry case -Button placement
Cons: It's really hard to criticise the Bathys, so I'll be nit-picky. - the headband isn't quite as comfortable as the SM4's and would occasionally lead to hot-spots on the top of my head -Battery life on BT. I can still easily get through a whole day on BT, but its no where as good as the SM4's. However, on DAC mode, the battery life is fantastic.

Beyond Disappointed
Leon from Windsor on 3/2/2024
I did months of research and reading reviews before I Purchased these for a long, international flight. So disappointed that I ended up using my old earbuds. Poor quality sound. Low volume. Could still hear the jet engine roar over the music. I expected so much more for a premium price for a pair of headphones. Wireless or wired did not make a difference. Will be returning these to Crutchfield. Others in our group on the international flight have Sony and Sennheiser and I can certainly say that the Focal was substandard in comparison, and at double the price, definitely not worth it, even if they were the same price. Oh, and the case has no way to tell top vs bottom, and kept opening it upside down and dumping everything out of it.

First piece of French audio and I am impressed. These phones bring out all the best, especially in the mid range. Very clear and natural. I have not messed with any adjustments yet. And I have spent some time burning them in and they sound more relaxed and open. My one criticism is the soundstage seems a bit narrow to me but this may change over time. These match just about all the reviews I've seen and read about them. They sound great! They have so-so ANC, and the controls/buttons are kinda junky. I really wish it didn't have a button for an assistant that is so easy to accidentally push. I wish it didn't silence your music when changing ANC modes. Also, I was surprised that my ears do touch the drivers. My ears aren't that big and it hasn't been an issue on any other headphones. But I suppose it could be the thicker arms on my new glasses causing that.

Fantastic Listening - review from a music professor
Jonathan from Pullman, WA on 1/15/2024
Love these headphones. I came from AirPods Max, and those were uncomfortable for long listening sessions (especially on my ears) and they had no off switch (which annoyed me). The Focal Bathy's remedied both of those concerns first off. Secondly, the sound quality on these is fantastic. I spend a lot of time listening to many different types of music (I'm a music professor at a large university) and these enlightened my ears to things I hadn't heard as clearly in the past as well as adding the human element to recordings. The human element being that I could hear brass inconsistencies in articulation/fracks/etc that I hadn't heard in a major recording before (none of these fracks were from bad musicians, but the fact that you could hear the clarity from the front of the note was outstanding). When you put the headphones in DAC mode with high level audio (Tidal Hi-Fi Plus, etc), it enriches the experience EVEN MORE. I went in to these headphones going "I'm not sure if these or the B&W PX8 are the best for me." I ordered these and have not been disappointed.
Pros: Sound Quality Off Switch Comfort Case quality Large earcups DAC Mode
Cons: A bit on the bulky side Noise cancellation is below that of others I've tried, but not a deal breaker at all. App is weak on iphone

Fantastic sound quality over Bluetooth, no dropouts and excellent range with my iPhone 15. The built in DAC is a bonus, there's a noticeable difference with hi-res lossless files, but you do loose the nice app (EQ) functionality when wired...ANC still works though. Speaking of ANC, it's good but other brands are better, the sound quality is the focus here, especially after burn in. Fit is also excellent for my head, I can wear them for extended periods while working (4hrs) with no fatigue. I like there are no touch controls, the tactile inputs have a small learning curve but work well. Lasty, battery life is excellent and they are very stylish with excellent build quality and packaging!

James from Collinsville, VA on 9/19/2023
Experienced an issue with the first set and had to return, but Clint and Crutchfield were fantastic in that regard and made the return process painless. I really wanted to give the Bathys a chance so a new pair was shipped immediately. All I can say is that these headphones are absolutely awesome. Worth every penny and then some. While I have not had an opportunity to use the DAC yet, I can honestly say that Bluetooth is phenomenal. Now Focal has added the Mimi Hearing Technologies feature to tailor the sound even more. After a quick run through, Mimi managed to make what I thought was already great sound even better. And they haven't even been broken in yet..

Step Up from the Usual ANC Headphones
Daniel from YORBA LINDA, CA on 9/3/2023
Very nice sound with Bluetooth but recently have tried the USB-C DAC mode connection with regular streaming and they sound even better. Much higher sound quality than Bose QC series. The fit is very good for me, better than Apple cans or B&W. The ANC is fine - I travel on planes every week and these are indispensable for long hauls. The ability to use a mini-RCA jack for in-flight entertainment is very convenient.
Pros: Sound quality is very good.
Cons: Have to connect through the app every time they are used.

Wow!!!
Ted from FULSHEAR, TX on 9/2/2023
I have several bluetooth headphones. Everything from Sony, Bose, Beats, and Apple to name a few. By far, this pair has the best sound out of all of them. When the volume is turned up they have a lot of power and resolution. The soundstage is great, and instrument separating is top notch. They have a slight bump in the bass, and treble. It is not excessive. Although there is an app, where the EQ can be adjusted, I don't find a need to adjust anything. They are amazing out of the box.
Pros: Sound quality, construction
Cons: I have a big head, the head band is fully extended. Could be better if there was a little more extension.

Excellent Headphones
Ultimately, these do everything I've been looking for in Hi-Fi wired headphones with outstanding sound quality with the addition of Bluetooth and ANC so it seemed like an obvious choice. These headphones sound excellent over Bluetooth (Apple Music, ALAC 24-bit/48kHz is the limit), far above anything else I've used over BT. Then plugging into my PC to listen to some higher res music it gets even better. PC recognized the headphones immediately (DAC mode first, then plug in) and a quick change of audio settings to set the 24 bit, 192kHz output format and anything higher res I'm playing gets a nice boost in quality. I'm hearing small things in songs I've never heard before. The headphones can get quite a bit louder than I'll probably ever use them and the louder it gets, the more the clarity of the driver is noticeable compared to other common headphones. For the features and flexibility, these are incredible and for me they were worth an upgrade over Bose and AirPods. Also, I did some burn-in tracks as I typically do w/ speakers and headphones but did not notice much difference between before and after, so sound quality was clear with nice tone/depth out of the box.
Pros: Audio Quality Nice button selection Noise Cancelling and physical isolation are good
Cons: DAC over iPhone requires a lightning to C adapter (14 Pro) to recognize as headphones

I was a little skeptical about spending the money for these head phones but am pleasently surprised. Having to wear hearing aids in both ears , I normally have to turn up the volume to hear the different mid range sounds resulting in distortion. With the Focal Bathys all sounds come through great at a lower volume. These have opened a new world of music ! Highly recommended !

Adriano from IRVINE, CA on 6/23/2023
Sound quality is better than most wireless heaphones. Bigger bass profile over ML5909 In DAC mode they really wake up! Noise cancelling is lacking but if you listen to music loud enough its not a huge issue. Biggest concern is connection to multiple devices is buggy. If you're using headphones for meeting/call. The constant connecting/disconnecting sound during the calls is extremely annoying!!
Pros: sound quality DAC mode App is OK

I ordered these Tuesday when I received the email from Crutchfield stating that they were on sale , I received them Thursday @3pm and as of 8:25pm I have yet to stop listening to these Beauties! The sound is crystal clear , and very detailed kids , and highs , with great bass (not overwhelming) , extremely well made , and comfortable , these are the type of headphones you can enjoy for hours on end with absolutely no listening fatigue! The Focal/Naim app works great and makes fine tuning a breeze , hopefully these will be around for the long haul , sound even better with 24 hours or so of break in time.
Pros: Excellent battery life , very comfortable , and the best Bluetooth phones I have yet to try

It's rare I make a "splurge" purchase and don't have regrets. Absolutely no regrets here! The Bathys have wonderful sound and detailed separation. They are comfortable and stay put even when walking or doing things around the house. I'm hearing new things in recordings I've listened to for 40 plus years. Bluetooth with AptX is excellent, and it only gets better if you use either corded option (usb c or 3.5mm). Fit and finish is excellent, and I even like the side logo lights (which can be dimmed or turned off). Caveat - I'm an old guy and have some hearing loss. Shipping thru Crutchfield was fast and free. Again, no regrets here.

Impressive Bluetooth Headphones
Crutchfield customer from San Antonio, TX on 3/23/2023
The Bathys are my first foray into the world of Focal, and I have to say I'm extremely impressed. When I first got them the sound was really dead and lifeless so I let them play at near max volume for a few hours. I could hear the sound changing as time went on and now they sound amazing. They're connected to my iPhone and my Samsung 8k TV, and sound great on both. One thing I will say.. It the source you're listening to is bad these will not make it sound better, they'll deliver a terrible sounding track. They don't try to hide or sugarcoat it, which is exactly what I expect them to do. I expect a clear, truthful listening experience from headphones in this price range and IMO the Bathys deliver. Really enjoy them.
Pros: Sound quality Comfort Battery life DAC mode Ability to connect up to 8 devices
Cons: App needs work Need more equalizer bands

Terrific wireless headphone worthy of Focal
Paul from Lawton, OK on 3/19/2023
Great wireless headphones! I've only had them three days, and this is based on roughly nine listening hours. These are very accurate and reveal the music's details superbly; exactly what you'd expect of Focal. These have the best bass response that I've experienced with any Focal headphone (Clear, Clear MG, and Celeste). Some tracks seem to get a little distortion in them at higher volume levels; I've not determined yet if it's due to noise cancelling trying to work, if the signal is clipping, or something else. It's not consistent. Aside from that occasional blur in the audio, these are very very close to the resolution I get with my Focal Clear, and with better bass. Noise cancellation is great when used in the home; I've not traveled with them yet. Phone calls with them are great; Facetime call was flawless. Very comfortable to wear too.
Pros: Superb bass response. Detailed highs. Accuracy you'd expect from Focal.
Cons: Odd, random distortion in some tracks at higher volumes. Cause not yet isolated: ANC? Clipping? Other? Nothing significant enough to be a deal-breaker, but it shows up at times.

Josh from Costa Mesa, CA on 3/10/2023
Simply the best wireless headphone I've ever owned. I have McIntosh tube gear for my main stereo so my ears are accustomed to that style of sound. The Focal Bathys deliver in every way. Superb comfort around my ears (oval shape which I prefer) and best in class noise cancellation. Sounds are placed perfectly around my head. Vocals are present and articulate. Instruments are presented in a wide and deep soundstage with lifelike attack and decay. I had high expectations given the price tag, and Focal delivers.
Pros: Detailed and truthful audiophile level sound.
Cons: My ears get a little hot after long periods of time listening.

Great, for a beta product..
Jarrett from Dallas, TX on 2/27/2023
Great set of headphones. Good sound quality, not the best bass extension compared to planar closed back headphones. Although these are closed back, be ready for whoever is sitting beside you to be singing along with your music. The vent lets an amazing amount of sound out in the 500-1000 hz range. Noise cancellation is very weak. I wasn't expecting my 4 yr old XM3s to be that much quieter compared to these. Could easily understand the news anchor on the TV with the TV volume very quiet even with music playing in the headphones. Tried all the different noise cancellation modes to make sure I wasn't in the light cancellation setting. The ambient sound mode was completely unusable due to the whistle/whine created by the headphones. The microphone for voice calls had the same issue, to the extent I could not use them in a professional environment for business calls. The single most impressive feature of these headphones: when switching from USB mode to bluetooth, the switch occurred almost instantly and auto answered the call, making it very easy to answer calls. Neither Focal or Crutchfield stated the lightning to USB adapter is required. Both companies state the headphones are indeed native USB-C, which implies the adapter is not required for iPhones. This is two audiophile components in a row that Crutchfield's hands on research was incomplete. Its simply unacceptable for a product at this price to not clearly communicate the required hardware for operation.
Pros: Sound quality is top shelf for headphones. Answers calls instantly when switching from USB to Bluetooth
Cons: Call quality had terrible whine/whistle on other end of call. Ambient sound mode had same issue. Requires lightning to USB adapter even though the documentation, user manual, and Crutchfield hands on research omitted this.

I bought the Px8 and Focal Bathys to compare and keep one. In short, the Focal Bathys have a notably higher sound quality but the Px8 are more comfortable, are gorgeous, and have slightly better functionality (buttons, software features, etc.). The Bathys connect to devices quickly and with ease but I stumbled using the buttons to utilize all the features. They also fail to auto detect when they are off my head and that is a feature I have gotten used to with other headphones and I cant go back.

Finally...
Eddie James from Roseville, MI on 1/13/2023
First of all...let's address the elephant in the room. I don't understand why people say the Bathys' feels cheaply made! I own several different open and closed back headphones and Focal Bathys are made better than most companies/manufacturers on their first attempt at Bluetooth Cans. Second of all...the Focal Bathys are better than all other Bluetooth Headphones on the market. I'll get to the Mark Levinson 5909 comparison in a min. PX8's, Momentum 4's, Apple AirPods Max, and Sony XM5's do not come close in sound quality even though they are in 3-4 different price ranges. Now...Market Levinson 5909 are very good headset. I've listened to them and they have a little more bass and depending on the music you listen to, here are my comparison. The Bathys sound stage is wider and accurate and 5909's sound stage seems exaggerated. The 5909's highs are more crisp and Bathys'are buttery smooth. 5909's mids are more pronounced/forward and the Bathys'are warm. The Bathys overall signature is close to higher end open back headphones in Bluetooth form. Built-in Dac even levels up the overall signature and sound stage of the Bathys when listening to lossless audio via USB-C. This is why I chose Bathys over the Mark Levinson Cans. For those that complain about ANC on the Bathys...Focal did it right to not sacrifice the Bathys sound. Trust me the Bathys are worth the money. Save your money and get them. You will be pleased with your purchase!
Pros: Quality Made, Clarity, Open Sound Stage. ANC is perfect.
Cons: Can't Find One In My Personal Opinion. Unless you need strong ANC to live dangerous and stand next to trains or watch fruit in a blender and want to sacrifice Audiophile quality music. Then you need to get Sony or Apple headphones.

If you are comfortable with closed back cans, these are it!
Rob from SAN DIEGO, CA on 1/11/2023
Well, if you're reading about Bathys then you have an ear for something special as an audiophile.badger watching about every video review and Reddit/forum review I finally pulled the trigger. My experience with them was amazing, immediately after unboxing you know you have something very well built with care. Over Bluetooth, they definitely blew my AirPods Max out of the water. Connecting via the dac connection really showed me for the first time (granted, CD players back in high school were lossless CD quality, but the cans were never high end, lol) what lossless high fidelity audio is. The focal sound signature I experienced here was awesome. Unfortunately, I have several skin conditions and my ears are extremely sensitive to heat and become itchy which I would notice around 30 minutes of wear. This occurs with any closed back set of cans, which I used for gaming primarily. I may be different in my personal experience, however the journey then led me higher up the chain to open back headphones, arriving at the Meze Elite which are amazing in a whole different way. As far as the bathys go, highly recommended and easily a 10/10 for what it is, portable amazing uncompromising sound. Crutchfield made the return process smooth, and just a few days later I'm ordering again as the experience is stellar. Thank you Cody and the crutchfield team!
Pros: Sound quality, build quality, focal heritage, ability to plug into a source and enjoy some of the highest quality audio anywhere.
Cons: Eventually needing a battery, however many products easily get years with todays tech. Quality and long term hardiness to be determined as it's a new product.

Focal Bathys
Todd from Mountain Home, ID on 12/30/2022
I find the headphones to be extremely comfortable to wear. What has pleased me the most is the sound! To reference, my usual over ear phones are the HD 800S. Not as open feeling as the 800s, but wow! Very clear, and for me, neutral. The reason I wanted the Bathys headphones was for the closed back and noise canceling features. They need to finish breaking in, but even with just over ten hours of use they are amazing! As a side note, I have not been in a situation to try out the noise canceling where I could say that it is good/bad, or so so. Where I have used it, it has seemed to hold outside noise out very well.

Bathys vs PX8
Daniel from WASHINGTON, DC on 12/21/2022
Looking to upgrade from the PX7s which clamped down on my head like a vise grip I bought both the PX8 and Focal Bathys to test head to head. I WANTED the PX8's to be better (they have a better feel, better build, better fit) BUT they just could not match up to the audio quality of the Focal's. Downside to the Focal's is the build. The buttons are flimsy and feel cheapish for the price. Almost plasticy. But the sound is exceptional, to the point that I'll over look the build for the audio quality. Hopefully Focal addresses this in future iterations like B&W did (hopefully way in the future since I just dropped $800 on these!!). I just used them on a 6 hour flight and the noise canceling is fine but not great. Honestly, on planes the audio quality is not as important so I just use my AirPods now. But when I want to chill and listen to music the Focal's are simply awesome.
Pros: Exceptional sound
Cons: Controls feel like the old PX7s

Focal Bathys - Good, not Great
Mark from Duluth, GA on 12/18/2022
I have had these for a couple of weeks. Overall I rate them good. My impressions: Comfort is outstanding, deep ear cups, just right ear clamp pressure. Noise cancelling is acceptable, though as expected, not nearly on the level of Sony XM5, but does help minimize loud noise. Sound quality, for me, is where I struggle a bit, and this is user preference: They are very relaxed sound wise - to me they feel compressed. I like more airiness and highs, versus mid and base, and these do not give me that (no matter how I equalize). However, in fairness they do sound good (much better than mid tier level phones like Sony). Sound quality to me is the most important aspect on why I am paying for premium wireless headphones and not sure these are for me personally. Phone quality is excellent. They have a good app, plus an equalizer is included. Having a built in DAC for wired is a great feature and can save $250 or more if you have to buy a decent portable one. I do not like the fact that you cannot turn off noise cancelling. Also no ability to do wired without being powered up.
Pros: Outstanding comfort Good feature set Built in Dac for wired Good App
Cons: Sound quality is too relaxed/compressed for my taste Cannot run without power Cannot turn off noise cancelling Average noise cancelling

Give them a chance
Mouni from Simi Valley, CA on 12/12/2022
When I first put these on, I was expecting to be blow away by the sound quality. Unfortunately, I was less than impressed. As others have said, they sounded airy, lacked presence and were really quiet (max volume was barely audible). Disappointed, I put them away and decided to return them the next day. Figuring I'd give them another shot after reading about the 40 hour recommended burn-in time, I found some very detailed electronic music tracks and left them playing at mid volume for 8 hours or so. Tried them again - HUGE difference! The sound became much more realistic, every frequency is not only heard but also felt, creating a beautifully complex sound stage. The volume also opened up and they became noticeably louder. I've been using them daily since and they just keep getting better, more alive. I don't listen at max volume anymore because they are quite loud. Regarding build quality, I would disagree with those who said they feel cheap. The leather (replaceable) ear pads feel great on the ears and the leather on the headband adds a nice touch. The headphones feel dense but not heavy to the point where they are uncomfortable to wear for a long time. Overall, I would definitely recommend these. They stay true to Focal's character, reproducing sound accurately, without any excess fluff. Sure, you can't compare these to the Utopias, but for a Bluetooth headset, they're fantastic!
Pros: Realistic sound Not overbearing noise cancellation
Cons: Can't listen in passive mode

I'm coming from a audiophile point of view with my background with the Focal Clear, Hifiman Sundara and the Sennheiser HD6XX with my assortment of DACs and Amps. My background with wireless BT ANC headphones include the Apple Airpods Max, Bang & Olufsen H95 and the recently released KEF Mu7. To sum it up, the Focal Bathys are the first true (good) BT ANC headphones made for audiophiles. What I mean by this is that these headphones met the minimum requirements for Focal compared to their world-class wired headphones like the Clear, Celestee, Radiance, Stellia and the Utopia. This trickle down engineering allowed Focal to create what is arguably the best wireless headphones that you can buy right now.

Great, but not the greatest
Trevor from Boston, MA on 10/26/2022
The market for high-end Bluetooth headphones is very competitive today, and the Focal Bathys are a strong contender. They sport a distinctive design with extra-plush padding on both the earcups and headband. Despite their relatively heavy weight, they're quite travel-friendly, folding up neatly in their hardshell carrying case. The controls are very well thought-out and easy to use. The ANC works very well. Surprisingly, the only thing I don't like about the Focal Bathys is the sound quality. It's pretty good, mind you, but it doesn't have the knockout quality I'd expect at this price point. I found the sound a bit distant; all the elements of the song are clear and well-separated, but I only feel the impact of them if I crank the volume up to uncomfortable levels. I played around with the five-band EQ settings in the app for a while to try to solve this, but never got the "wow" quality that I got from the Mark Levinson No. 5909, or (to a lesser extent) the AirPods Max. Overall, I admire the Focal Bathys, but after careful comparison between the two, my Bluetooth headphone of choice is the AirPods Max. Apple's high-end headphone has more impactful sound (to my taste), and its ultralight design is even more comfortable than the luxe Bathys.
Pros: Well-designed, comfortable, travel-friendly.
Cons: Sound lacks impact. Expensive.

My Main Headphone!!!
Mel from Jupiter, FL on 10/23/2022
I have my fair share of Bluetooth headphones. Apple Max, Sony XM3,XM4, AKG, and now Focal Bathys. I really enjoy the comfort of these headphone. They are well made and look fantastic. I have to learn the physical button layout, which I wish was a little bit larger or separated for volume and play, pause etc. Now the sound is really clear and separation of the bass, mids and highs are just fantastic. The focal app is nice and simple to use. I have not needed to adjust the EQ for these headphones. Like my Sonys WH-1000xm4's I have to use the EQ to adjust different music genres. On the Focal Bathys no EQ adjustments are needed. I feel the bluetooth sound quality is the best I have heard so far using Apple MacBook Pro, Apple iPhone 13pro max and Mini iPad (gen6). But when I used the included usb -C connection to my iPad mini and used the Focal Bathys DAC switch on the headphones, WOW what a difference in the sound quality. The sound stage is very open for closed back headphones, and I could hear more clarity in my music, ( classic rock, jazz, blues, country and vocals are scary real)! Now, $800, on headphones is a hard pill to swallow, but, to me, these headphones are the best of both worlds, bluetooth and wired with a built in DAC player for your music. When you play your favorite music using Focal Bathys Headphones, you realize the money you just spent was well worth every cent. Thank you Focal and Crutchfield (I can use paypal 6 months to pay for these Foca

New Kid on the Block
Robert from Trumbull, CT on 10/21/2022
I already had the older Sony ANC headphones, but I really did not like the lack of buttons. I also had a pair of Focal Celeste's. So when I found out that Focal also had ANC wireless headphones capable of aptX, I was hooked. I really like the feature set. And of course the physical buttons. Also, whereas my Sony skips at times when on aptX even when the phone is next to me, the Focal has not skipped a single time yet. Very happy with my purchase. I'll be selling the Celeste and relegating the Sony to outdoor usage, because they do have better ANC for power equipment.
Pros: Built-in USB DAC Great battery life Physical buttons Flawless aptX implementation, no skips Classic Focal sound
Cons: I have a big head and these fit just right on the most open setting. That was a close call! They could have made these a bit bigger.

Love what Focal has done!
Matt from Albany, NY on 10/19/2022
I upgraded from the B&W PX7. Considered going with the just released PX8s, but have really fallen for the Focal signature sound. I use the Clear MGs daily. I didn't expect the sound to even come close to the Clears. They are totally different animals, but I hoped the comfort level would be consistent and the practical travel ease would compensate. Well. the sound is pretty incredible. Better than the PX7s. and not as nuanced as the Clears (again. apples to oranges, but my only headphone comparisons). I listen primarily to jazz and classical. with a heavy rotation of Cheap Trick. For both, the detail is pretty big and the sound stage is excellent. Cheap Trick is just loud.?? Comfort was better than expected. Lighter than expected, but appropriately tight around the ears so as not to fall off. The leather is already soft and feels broken in. I'll update the review once I start using them on airplanes. So far the battery length is as advertised. And the ANC seems quite good. Not sure I really see much difference between silence modes with the PXs. The app is pretty sparse and was a bit annoying to use at first. They fold nicely into the case and leave only a slightly larger footprint than the PX7s. Others seem interested in using them as a DAC with the wire. CooI feature, but I'm less interested in that. I have the Clears + a Gryphon if I want. For me, Bluetooth, transportability, and high quality sound are the priorities. along with comfort. A

Focal Bathys
Marshall from JACKSONVILLE BEACH on 10/18/2022
So I have been listening to my Focal Bathys for over a week--initial impression --Amazing sound quality and feel on the head. If one is looking to upgrade to an excellent wireless headphone this is one to seriously consider. My only issue with them is I cannot figure out how to use the built in DAC on the bathys (wired) to my Apple Iphone. I tried connecting them via Apple lightening USB 3 Camera adapter and that did not work--tried using a USB-C coupler to lightening connection and that didn't work either. I assume there is a way to make the built in DAC wired to an Iphone work but my search continues. If one is looking to use these primarily in a wireless mode then buy these--the sound is amazing!!! Regarding Crutchfield they are amazing to work with!
