Clean Warm Sound

Very pleased with these. After using Crutchfield's virtual listening tool, I settled on these for my build. I have been very pleased with the clarity and the warmth from these speakers. Was bracing myself for overly harsh highs based on other reviews but have been very happy - to me in my application they sound very balanced. Powering them with a 60 watt per channel Kenwood and they're really filling the cabin with great sound.

Unbearably harsh highs

Unbearably harsh highs. Unlistenable at lower volumes/gain settings. I have these along with the ISU 165s in the rear doors. All 4 channels have really harsh highs. I worked with Technical Support and they said to try new speakers. Now I have to pull everything out and send it all back.

Exceptional sound clarity

I installed these Focal speakers in a 2024 Tacoma. The improvement in sound quality was remarkable. I can clearly hear the various instruments. I know these are not Focal's highend speakres but they are lightyears ahead of the stock Toyota speakers. I highly recommend these Focals, you won't be disappointed. The install of the door speakers was fairly easy with the provided mounting adapter, however there was no wiring harness adapter available which was not a problem for the door speakers, but the tweeters require a unique plug which if not used stops the flow to the door speakers. So you can't just splice into the existing tweeter wiring. It was a bit tricky, but is doable.

Good sound easy install

I'm driving these and a pair of factory rears with a Kicker Key 200.4 amp which pair nicely. The tweeter is very powerful! I had to adjust the treble down a good bit on my equalizer to dial them in. Sound quality is good. Overall happy and the inline crossovers made installation easy. I'll be buying another set for rear fill eventually.

Silky highs, just right midbass

I've had many brands of 2-way components sets throughout the years. I bought this set from Crutchfield and can say the clarity from the tweets and midbass from the midrange/midbass drivers have been the best I've owned.

Focal ISU 165

The Focal ISU 165 replaced some Kicker 46CSC674 coaxial speakers. Talk about a difference in performance especially the mids and highs. Highs are more precise and detailed thanks to the 1.5" metal inverted dome tweeters. The mids are very clear and vocals sound different from the Kickers. I was listening to a live Steely Dan album called "Northeast Corridor", and it's like you have a front row seat at the concert. You can really hear more nuance in the vocals now than before. I have them installed in the front and rear of my 2017 Honda Civic. They are powered by a Kenwood Excelon DMX1057XR head unit and Rockford Fosgate P300-12 powered subwoofer. I don't have an external amp and they still sound amazing. This was my first time with a Focal product and can say I'm impressed with the quality.

Typical Focal excellence

I honestly wasn't sure how much of a difference these would make solely because of how thin my car's doors are, but I was pleasantly surprised when I replaced the fairly respectable Kicker 6.5" coaxials I had with these. They're so much better and it's not even close. Running them on a Kicker Key 200.4 amp that's only pushing 50w/channel, but they still sound great at any volume I'm comfortable listening at. Focal's included instructions, as usual, were rather awful, but the always savvy Crutchfield folks helped clarify the installation process.

Focal ISU 165

They sound great. Super detailed and definitely needed to break in. Highs are real high so I can imagine these aren't for everyone but damn there are details in music I'm only hearing for the first time because of the Focals. Don't buy these expecting to get great bass. Also they're a little more work than the last component setup I installed with there being a crossover for each speaker and tweeter.

Detailed, accurate, and clear.

These speakers have great detail and capture even the slightest of sounds with great clarity overall. I had to crank up the volume 5-10 notches in my 2015 Honda CR-V to obtain equivalent volume to my factory speakers. These speakers definitely benefit from a higher power stereo or amp, but they can be easily used with a factory unit.

Simply Amazing

These speakers absolutely rock. The sound clarity is incredible and you can hear every instrument and every vocal like you were sitting in the studio with the band. My stock 2011 Tundra head unit had plenty of power to push them and no amp required.

Stellar factory speaker upgrade

A top-notch upgrade to the factory speakers in my non-JBL 2023 Camry hybrid. Very crisp highs, and tight mid bass. Extremely clean sounds from the wide variety of music types I listen to. Now I just need to add the underseat sub to fill out the soundstage.

Absolutely stunning upgrade!

This set replaced a set of kicker coaxials installed by a previous owner. I cannot emphasize how dramatic of a sound change these speakers made. I am extraordinarily picky with my purchases and it is absolutely astounding how much better these economical Focal speakers made over the kickers. I highly recommend! I can't imagine how much better mid/high end Focals sound than this, but with my next set, I intend on finding out!

Honda Ridgeline RTL 2023

This is my third set of Focal speakers. I installed Focal speakers in a 4Runner 2018, Corolla 2021 and now in a Honda Ridgeline RTL 2023. I kept the Factory head unit and the sub. The sound went from muddy to clear and bright, exactly what I was looking for. The OEM tweeters are proprietary to Honda and the tweeter grill is small and built-in with the factory tweeter. Instead of modifying the pillar garnish, I removed the factory tweeters face plate. I designed a 3D printed adapter ring. I finished the 3D print with Bondo putty glaze and paint +primer. The upgrade instructions from Crutchfield were excellent, the wiring table was accurate. For the tweeters I use an adapter harness from Red Wolf on Amazon. The tweeter harness polarity was wrong, and I verified that using Crutchfield's wiring instructions. In the back doors I installed Focal ICU 165 and changed the tweeter gain to High per the instruction from Focal. High gain for speakers closer to the floor. The rear door tweeters do not overpower the front and add nice complete sound.

Im disappointed

Honestly I'm very disappointed for the price, i would have bought pioneer for 1/3 the price. The door speakers are barely noticeable and the tweeters are too bright.

Surprisingly great sound ! Installed in doors of 96 Chevy 1500 standard cab.Very little modifications for tweeters to fit in stock location. Big improvement for factory stereo.

You Get What You Pay For

This is my first pair of Focal's and now I finally see what all of the hype is about. I am running them on a Fosgate P1000x5 @75 watts RMS off of my factory head unit in a 2021 Accord Sport 2.0T. The stay clear and undistorted beyond what you can take for more than a few minutes without your ears literally ringing. They have a decent amount of midbass when using the included passive crossovers but almost non existent when using my amps cross overs. I am running a 15" Sundown SA-12 V.2 so I cant really hear the midbass anyways. So most of the time I will use the amps cross overs just to stay on the safe side and not damage the 165's at crazy volume. The only reason for the 4 star review and not a 5 is they are priced a little high for basically Focal's entry level speaker.

Purchased open box speakers were missing crossovers for subwoofers, called customer service and they shipped out missing parts. Received missing crossover and did not work only one pair was shipped needed crossover for both subwoofers. Returning both sets for another brand.

Focal=Suspect Qualiy

Weak sound. Crossover came apart. Had to solder it back together. If I were not out of the 60 day window, I would exchange. Had the two way Focal's in the front. Had to send them back. Tweeter broken after six weeks.

Very disappointed in these speakers. I swapped out the stock door speakers and tweeter from my 2005 Mercedes SLK 350 and was happy to see the apparent cheap speakers i was taking out. Ive heard many great things about Focal speakers and after spending a day fabricating new speaker housing for the doors and then installing them, they actually sound worse than the stock ones I took out
