Focal's Expert Series PS 165F3 component speaker system follows their long-standing equation of using advanced materials in conjunction with innovative design ideas to create speakers that reproduce the most accurate musical sound. This 3-way system includes two woofers, two midrange drivers, two tweeters, two crossovers, and assorted hardware --- this audiophile-grade system will transform your listening experience in the car.
The right material for the right sound
Focal continuously searches for materials that allow them to produce some of the most accurate speakers in the world. This time, Focal found that flax fibers help create a very rigid, lightweight cone for their speakers. With half the weight of fiberglass, the hollow flax fibers are woven and sandwiched between thin glass membranes. Mounted to a sturdy aluminum basket, you'll enjoy a lively and accurate speaker that resists unwanted vibrations.
A detailed and rich soundstage
Focal's 6-1/2" woofer and 3" midrange driver include their new flax sandwich cones with butyl rubber surrounds, so they add tight bass and and a naturally detailed transition to the highs. Focal designed the inverted dome tweeter to disperse high frequencies evenly for a big, open soundstage. Mount the midrange and tweeter as close to ear level as possible in your vehicle, and enjoy the powerful soundstage created by these precision speakers.
The external 3-way crossover included in the PS 165F3 system ensures a smooth transition from lows to highs, so vocals and instruments sound natural. Each crossover includes 2-position tweeter and midrange output level switches, so you can get the right balance in your vehicle.
Installation note: You'll need a pair of our universal backstraps to install the tweeters in the factory locations.

Cone: The woofer cone is a sandwich design, with a 0.4mm flax center between two 0.04mm glass layers. This combination of materials results in a neutral sound without coloration.
Surround: The butyl rubber surround is resistant to ultraviolet rays, temperature extremes, and humidity to add to the speaker's reliability and longevity.
Aluminum Basket: The cast aluminum basket is rigid and non-magnetic.
Voice Coil: The voice coil is wound around a 1-1/4" diameter low-mass Kapton former, ensuring no coil deformation.
Size Classification Note: Some manufacturers, including Focal, call this size woofer a 6-1/2". Because it requires a larger cutout than a standard 6-1/2" speaker, Crutchfield has traditionally referred to this size woofer as a 6-3/4". Please refer to the Crutchfield Vehicle Selector to confirm fit in your vehicle.

Cone: Like the woofer, the midrange cone is a sandwich design, with a 0.4mm flax center between two 0.04mm glass layers.
Surround: The butyl rubber surround is resistant to ultraviolet rays, temperature extremes, and humidity.
Aluminum Basket: The cast aluminum basket is rigid and non-magnetic.
Voice Coil: The voice coil is wound around a 1" diameter low-mass Kapton former, ensuring no coil deformation.
Size: The midrange drivers are not a standard size, Focal calls them 3". They can be top or bottom mounted and have these dimensions:

Terminals: The inputs are set screw terminals; they will accept bare wire up to 16-gauge.
Tweeter
Inverted Dome Tweeter: The tweeter is an inverted Aluminum/Magnesium dome, producing a broad sound stage. The tweeter uses a durable poron suspension.
Mounting Options: The tweeter can be surface or flush mounted using the included adapters. The included angled cup allows surface mounting at approximately 30°.
Crossover
Components: Focal uses audiophile grade polypropylene capacitors and air core inductors to ensure high definition and a dynamic sound quality.
Tweeter Level: You can adjust the output level of the tweeter on the crossover to -3 dB or 0 dB (flat).
Midrange Level: Set the midrange output to High or Flat to match their position in the car. When the mids are installed low in the door, some of the output is absorbed by the upholstery and they benefit from the High output setting.
Crossover Slopes: The crossovers use 12 dB per octave low-pass, 12 dB per octave band-pass (for the midrange), and 18 dB per octave high-pass filters. The crossover points are 300 Hz (low-pass for the woofer and high-pass for the midrange) and 3.5 kHz (high-pass for the tweeter and low-pass for the midrange).
Wiring: The inputs and outputs are screw terminals; they will accept bare wire or spade connectors up to 0.3" wide.
