The sound I was looking for.
Michael from Canby, OR on 9/14/2023
2020 Honda Accord Hybrid
For me there was a hole in my car audio. I had a ten speaker system w/ Amp; Two components and a center up front, with two components sets and a sub in the rear stage. The front stage was full, rich, and dynamic. But there was significant drop off in the rear fill. I know there is a difference of opinion in attending to the rear stage, if it matters or not? I have an excellent sub, full and deep sounding. The sub came forward rich and smooth, but without support, good bass but nothing more. It wasn't supported in mids and highs leaving (imo) a lacking, a drop off behind the ear. I prefer a full spectrum of sound; dynamic mids, punctuated by clear vocals and sharp contrasting highs all wrapped in rich buttery bass. As rich as the sound flowed from the front the bass came forward alone. No more with the addition of the Focals. The sound was good before, but with these Focals it is now excellent. The entire car is filled from all angles. The sound is full and rich, with the perfect mix across the entire spectrum, for my ear. These would be an excellent addition to any system (imo) in the front or rear. As the main stage or as support. The sound from these speakers is vibrant, natural, and brings a dynamic addition to the system. If you like a bright and natural sound these are the speakers you have been looking for. They punch way above the price tag, competing with many speakers twice their price.
Pros: Lively natural sound, bright, dynamic with vocals clear and forward.
Cons: Needs supporting bass (imo)

Focal RCX-165
Jim from Smyrna, TN on 9/4/2023
2003 Toyota 4Runner
I replaced the rear door speakers in my 2003 4Runner with Focal RCX-165 coaxials. Additionally, I replaced my factory tweeter and woofer in the front doors with a pair of complementary RSE-165 component speakers. I have a few-years-old Kenwood DDX6706S receiver that pushes a very modest 22W RMS which combined with the factory speakers came across pretty flat. The new Focal's really provide greater frequency separation with higher highs and much deeper bass. Still thinking about adding a 50-60W RMS amplifier, but really it sounds pretty good just as is. Highly recommend the Focal's.

2023 Ford Escape Hybrid
I put these in a 2023 Ford Escape Hybrid with the stock stereo and the 13.2 inch display. I had already added a sub and wanted more high end and mids. These sound SO much better than the factory speakers. They add bass too and sound much more rich and fuller. After taking out the factor speakers originals look like something out of an old AM radio. I uploaded pictures of the stock speakers. Ford should be embarrassed. I am surprised they sounded as good as they did. The stock magnets are so weak I could not get metal to stick to them. With the Focal Speakers I accidentally picked up my wrench with them they were so powerful. Installation was easy with the supplied brackets and wiring. You just snap off the tabs you don't need on the bracket. I did not add an amp, these sound great with the stock head unit, bet they would be even better with an amp but I don't want to risk my new care warranty. The car sounds BETTER than the factory upgrade B&O system now.
Pros: Easy install, sound so much better, easy install.
Cons: None, other than realizing how bad the factory speakers were.

Definitely more clearer in sound, can't say much for bass or loudness due to still using stock radio. So I didn't see a drastic change where it was night and day. I somehow blew a speaker and I'm 7 months out of my warranty. Which is the reason I purchased these. I got the kit for mounting and pigtails which worked great.
Pros: Clearer sound
Cons: Not much more bass over stock speakers

2020 Ford F150 Super Crew Cab with Bang and Olsen system. The Focal RCX-165 are very nice sounding speakers. Nice Price point. Relatively easy install in the rear doors. As far as the OEM system in the truck, there is not much one can do to upgrade the system other than the rear speakers. Note: the rear OEM speaker are coaxial. The front speaker is a woofer, coaxial or 3-ways will only produce low frequencies due to the crossover controlling the front speakers and the tweeters in the pillars. BUT, there's hope. 1. I added sound control to all doors (metal and plastic) with KilMat 2. Wrapped the plastic sub box in KillMat. 3. I reinforced the plastic basket and mounting plate of the front OEM speakers with KillMat. Plastic baskets? Yep, but taking the time to add some weight and rigidity pays dividends. The sound control of doors, panels, and sub.... along with the upgraded rear speakers has tightened up the overall system dramatically.
Pros: Great tweeters. Clean Mids. Nice price.

These speakers sound fantastic, super clear and rich tone, but if you own a 10th gen Honda Civic be prepared to do a lot of extra work with these speakers. I don't know why Honda chose to put these little "ears" in the door for the speaker hole, but the speaker basket on these is wide enough to get caught on the ears and prevent it from being flush with mounting bracket. If you have a reciprocating saw you could probably just cut those ears off and it'll work, but if you don't have one like me you can either make spacer gaskets or buy some speaker repair gaskets online and they will give you enough clearance for the basket to not touch the ears. Your probably gonna have to drill some holes in your door too and get some longer screws than the one that come with Crutchfield's brackets if you want it to be snug and secure. Was a real pain but these speakers do sound amazing.

Doesn't fit
roger from BEND, OR on 4/12/2023
2020 Honda Passport
Speakers sound good but install requires a lot of modifications. The speaker adapter bracket bottom clips don't fit tight to the door panel so you need to make a gasket for between the door and adapter to keep it from rattling. The screws that come with the speakers are way too long and bottom out on the metal door. You have to find your own screws as no others are provided. The opening in the door for the speaker has 2 "ears" of metal at 5 and 7 o'clock. The speaker adapter is not thick enough to prevent the speaker basket from hitting these before it is flush against the adapter. When the speaker is clocked to the position it fits the best, which still has a little play, the holes in the speaker frame don't line up with the slots in the speaker adapter so you have drill some pilot holes. Since these aren't in the slots there is 1/2 the material there for the screws to bite into. Not sure how long this will stay tight??

I bought a pair of these for the 2013 Ford Fiesta I recently bought because both front speakers were blown (rattling). I liked them so much over the factory speakers I ordered a second set to replace the rear speakers as well. Very nice clean sound and a large improvement over OEM! Very happy with them. And ordering from Crutchfield is the best because they include the wire adapter and the bezel needed to replace the OEM speakers. The only thing was included in the factory box from Focal was only one set of hardware. After buying the first pair I thought it was a "glitch" but the second pair arrived the same way. 8 holes for mounting each speaker and only 8 pair of screws and clips were included. Just picked up some machine screws with nuts for each additional speaker. Other than that I am completely satisfied with the speakers and Crutchfield supplying all I needed including instructions for my application. Great job Crutchfield!!

Installed as rear speakers in 2020+ Subaru Outback with no HK nor RF upgrade. Drop-in replacement with the provided Metra bracket. Speakers are sensitive enough to be driven by OEM infotainment system with no amp. They help to fill the sound stage from drivers perspective and definitely improved sound for rear passengers. Nice, clean and accurate sound while not overly bright. If you're looking for low-bass, these are not it, but mid bass and low mids are reproduced accurately and with no distortion at higher volume levels. Overall, very nice speakers. Great speakers, very bright highs and had to turn the treble down. Great fit for the rear doors of 19 Nissan Rogue. Speakers sounded good even with the factory radio, car turned into a concert hall once I installed the 4 channel 200w RMS amp. Due to efficiency of the speaker, you don't need much power to drive them and the decibel level in your car way up. The included speaker adapters made the install very easy. Mids are a little lacking, but I have not finished tuning after amp install. I had to take off 1 star due to the lack of instructions and very bad hardware included with the speakers. I expected better quality hardware from a company with Focals reputation. Had to visit local hardware store for better speaker mounting screws. Will buy for Crutchfield again.

Installed these in the front doors of my 2020 Honda Civic Sport. If you do the same, be prepared to take a hammer or something similar to bend in the two lower tabs that will hit the basket on these and not allow them to sit flush, even with the plastic adapters provided by Crutchfield. Kudos to Crutchfield for including these adapters and the wiring adapters as well. Speakers themselves sound pretty good but they're not life-changing. I was expecting much more from reading other reviews. They aren't night and day from the stock speakers. Better, but my jaw didn't drop. I may have to also replace the very rear speakers to get more effect. Tip for install as well: Since the adapter to mount these is plastic and you're installing onto the metal car door, use something like liquid tape to knock out any annoying metal on plastic vibrations/sounds. I also applied a layer of liquid tape where the plastic adapter and speaker meet. No rattling or buzzing here.

2017 Honda Ridgeline
I installed these in the front doors of a 2017 Honda Ridgeline RTL-T to replace the factory speakers, and I'm really happy with how they sound. These were actually not my first choice but due to a happy accident with an incorrect fit guide relating to Rockford Fosgate components, I wound up ordering these and I actually like them much better in this context. Since I left the stock tweeters in the A pillar, I don't have to turn up my treble at all, but I can still hear absolute clarity throughout the high range. Now that they've had a few weeks to break in, the mid bass is solid and punchy and the whole range handles volumes well beyond what I'm willing to endure without any distortion. The only caveat I would have for someone ordering them for the same vehicle is be aware that you will have to rotate the speakers to fit the "humps" in the door cutout, so you won't be able to mount them with "Focal" being right side up. They're still a perfect overall fit and I would gladly recommend them.
Pros: Sound quality, value, fit and finish, relative affordability
Cons: None so far

Good but needs an amp
Crutchfield customer from Moca, PR on 2/2/2022
2018 Honda Accord Sport
I had Rockford Fosgate R165X3 in the front, I wanted to replace them on a tenth gen accord sport because after 32 volume there is distortion. Went with these focals for clarity. Although they were clear the volume was lower because the head unit cant move these as they should be moved. If you have an amp or factory system with an amp and want to upgrade the speakers I'd imagine the Focals would sound awesome. The good thing about all this was I discovered that my rockford speakers were distorted because i didn't plug in the speaker wire connectors all the way in! Rookie mistake, so when i plugged in the speakers all the way the fosgates woke up and sounded clearer even at max volume! Please guys make sure your speakers are connected properly! Now i'm perfectly happy with my rockfords and returned the Focals. Great return policy and customer service from crutchfield as always. If it wasn't for me ordering these and replacing i never would've discovered and solved the issue with the rockfords. If you have an accord sport or a honda with the factory 180 watt head unit try the rockfords after doing some research the R1s i think are made to work with low watt factory head units. That's probably why they sounded louder than the Focals.
Pros: very clear and good build quality
Cons: not great if working with factory head unit

If you want clean, non-fatiguing high end end reproduction and smooth, tight, well balanced mid range and bottom end, do yourself a favor and give these a try. I didn't hear a huge leap from the Kenwood's nor was I expecting as the Kenwood's were not bad speakers, they were just getting old. I have a good bit of Focal components in my home audio system and have absolutely zero issues with any of there products.

Easy install. Super clean sound. A giant upgrade to stock 6.5" paper cones. Nice full range with no distortion. I'm very pleased with the price and performance.
Pros: Crystal clear. Well made. Excellent value.
Cons: These are not subwoofers, don't expect pronounced "hit". Not really a con but some people may purchase these with the wrong expectations.

Good sound, suboptimal fit
Michael from Berkshires, MA on 8/26/2021
2017 Honda Ridgeline
Installed in the rear doors on my 2017 Honda Ridgeline RTL-T. The sound is fine for rear stage, no complaints there. I have JL C1-650 components up front. Installation in this vehicle was fine for me but may be suboptimal for others so I am going to leave my experience here. The speaker has a much larger frame and magnet than OEM and only fit in the provided brackets in one rotated orientation (otherwise the speaker frame hits the door mounting tabs, preventing the speaker from sitting flush with the mounting bracket), however when in this orientation the holes in speaker and bracket did not line up, and the screws provided with the speakers were too long (they hit the metal door skin before seating on the speaker). I recommend Crutchfield modify their description of how these speakers 'fit' in this application. I am handy with plenty of tools so I just redrilled new pilot holes and used some screws I had in my toolbox but many people may not be so lucky. I did dynamat the doors also, so that might improve my sound quality too. I do like the sound.
Pros: Great sound for rear stage
Cons: Did not fit as desired in this vehicle application, may be a struggle for some or require a trip to the hardware store.

Good upgrade to factory speakers.
Pros: DIY install was fairly easy with adapter ring and Toyota wiring harness. No soldering.
Cons: Took a minute to figure out that I had to remove some snap out tabs on the mounting ring to let the speaker seat properly. Sound is good but not as good as the 6x9 Focal component speakers I put in the front doors. These were in the rear doors. Still better than the factory speakers by a lot.

Kinda dissappinted with these Focals. My Ford Excursion is all Focal, components up front and these in the back doors. Sound was pretty good for the price but one just seized up. Got them in june 2020 and they were run off a JL 360/4 so I really they would last 4 ever. I run my system pretty hard but still from Focals I expected a longer life span.
Pros: Pretty good sound for the price range.
Cons: Short life span.

2021 Toyota RAV4 Prime
Placed in rear door of rav4 prime. There was not enough power from factory head unit to provide these with enough power for these to run properly. I now have an alpine kta-450 amp powering these which made a huge difference. Overall these are a very solid option. Good attack in the mids and solid low end for what they are. The highs can become a little harsh and piercing, sibilance is pronounced. This makes something like Archangel by Burial almost unlistenable . I think this is the nature of speakers in this price range and is also probably accentuated by the amp. Personally I would not buy these again as I'm very sensitive to highs but I think for most people it won't be an issue. Strongly recommend using these with an amp.
Pros: Great value Clean mids and surprising control in the lower end.
Cons: Overly pronounced highs that could be smoother. Might not be suitable for factor headunits without amp

I replaced the factory B&O speakers and the are a huge upgrade. Much better bass, range and most importantly, imaging. Highly recommend these, especially if you are upgrading only your speakers. The factory speakers sound compressed and harsh in comparison. I love these focals! I put them in my 2018 Ford Raptor and they are truly enjoyable. Excellent clarity with CDs and Qobuz. Thought I needed a sub until I replaced the doors with Focals, not anymore! Treat yourself, life is short, enjoy your music!

Great upgrade to already good stereo on a Chevy Bolt
Crutchfield customer from Ventura, CA on 6/11/2021
2020 Chevrolet Bolt
I got terrific value for the money I spent. These are two-way speakers. The woofer and tweeter are integrated into one coaxial, round, speaker. If you need "component" speakers, with separate woofer and tweeter, you want the Focal RSE-165. The woofers typically go in the door, and the tweeters are mounted in the dash. My vehicle (a 2021 Chevy Bolt) needed two-way in the rear, and component for the front. I bought a pair of each. My 2021 Bolt came with a very good sound system - for a standard car stereo. Replacing the "head end" of a modern sound system integrated into a new car is costly and foolish. There are two many connections and features to integrate. Adding a power amp is also not a great plan for an electric car: they use too much of your battery power. I wanted a better sound system than the moderately good standard system. An upgraded model, with a Bose sound system, would have cost me nearly $5K more. So I replaced the speakers and kept the head end. I love - LOVE! - my sound system now. The bass, mid-range, and tweeter are all clear, with warmth and vibrancy. My many-thousand-dollar home sound system is definitely better, but this is the best car sound system I have personally owned. In 5+ decades of driving. Awesome!
Pros: The Focal 165 speakers, both 2-way and component, are: * Audiophile quality * Very efficient * Clear and vibrant mid range for acoustic orchestral music * Plenty loud * Fit 6 1/2" and 6 3/4" mountings.
Cons: No cons for me. Some people might want a heart-thumpingly powerful amplifier & speakers. I don't want to waste the electricity.

These speakers are a wonder. They deliver a surprising amount of bass with an evenly balance frequency distribution. The sound is full and powerful from the lows all the way through the mid-range and highs. I was considering an additional amp and woofer, but now, maybe not. You could spend a lot more without getting this level of quality. This is the second time I have upgraded a car's audio with Focal speakers and I am thrilled with the sound. I highly recommend them.

Buy these if you're using Focal RSE-165 in the front
Crutchfield customer from Oxford, MS on 4/25/2021
The real reason to get these is to be the rears for your system featuring the Focal RSE-165 in the fronts. The tweeters are pretty great, and the midrange woofer plays with pretty good resolution. They won't play all that low though--maybe 60hz max. There's a dip around 2khz to 3khz, so maybe play with your EQ settings to correct. They pair well with the Focal RSE-165 to give you nice tonal balance. You'll want a sub to fill in the bass on these. Not sure if they're worth the price point, but I'm happy w/ them in my truck.
Pros: Timbre and tonal qualities match well with the Focal RSE-165. They offer good resolution.
Cons: Pricey for what they are... They don't play too low, so pair them w/ a sub...

2018 Honda Civic Not Recommended
Ron from Rancho Cordova, CA on 4/23/2021
2018 Honda Civic LX
The Focal RCX-165 in a 2018 Honda Civic sounds too bright with not enough low end. It is very comparable to stock speakers except for the brightness of the tweeters. I'm pretty sure these speakers will need an amp for the stock head unit. The installation is difficult. When installing the speaker only fits in 2 different positions because the speaker interferes with the metal of the car door. Also, in those two positions, the speaker mounting holes do not match with the mounting bracket. I had to drill pilot holes for the screws since they didn't match up.
Pros:
Cons: Difficult Install Not a Good Fitment Tweeter Too Bright Needs Amp

I am very satisfied with these speakers. I put them in the rear of my 98 Grand Cherokee with an existing Pioneer head unit pushing 45 Watts to each speaker. The sound excellent. They are not huge on base but I would not expect that from a 5" speaker. Soon I will add a new head unit, amp and subwoofers and expect performance to be even better then.

I tossed these into my Sentra after I blew my front doors and boy were they worth it. I'm running them on the built in amp from my head unit and they're doing surprisingly well. They even out perform the Pioneer 6x9's in my rear deck. These are the absolute perfect backup for my two JL 10's. I highly recommend these for someone who wants a good upgrade and an easy install. The build quality is quite impressive. The mids are super tight and the tweeters are bright.

Tom from Richmond, CA on 12/21/2020
2018 Infiniti QX80
I just installed these in my 2019 Nissan Frontier CC SV pickup. The factory speaker location is less than ideal so my expectations for rear fill was limited. Overall, they sound great. Running the off deck power (Kenwood DMX907S, 22W RMS/ch). You'll need to make very slight modifications to the fit kit in order to accommodate the baskets, but that's nothing a dremel tool can't fix in 60 seconds. A great companion to my Focal Universal separates I have running up front (which are simply fantastic).
Pros: Serious factory upgrade. Quality construction.
Cons: I don't spend a lot of time driving and listening to rear fill, so I likely could have saved a few bucks and gotten something else. Fit kit needs slight modification.

2003 Jaguar Van Den Plas
I purchased the RCX-165s for the front doors of a 2003 Jaguar, Super V8. The speakers fit fine with one exception. The original screws in the Jag are too long because the outer frame of the speaker is thinner than the original speakers. I ended up using 1/4" hex nuts between the speaker and the screw heads as spacers. I would have been nice if Crutchfield had included screw spacers. I had to stop the install and figure out what to do. The wiring harness adapter that's included for free is perfect. Overall, I am very pleased with how the speakers sound. They are a great replacement for the original Alpine speakers and work flawlessly with the car stereo. It made the Jags sound system come alive. The midrange is outstanding and voice is more defined. I highly recommend these. I will be doing the rear doors very soon.
Pros: Speakers are a great improvement over the factory Alpine speakers.
Cons: Could have had screw spacers for an easier install.

Great sound for a relatively inexpensive speaker. Crisp, clean, detailed, without being harsh. Good soundstage. Image well. Tweeters are smooth and present without being overbearing. Nice and detailed even at lower volume levels. Running these in the rear doors. They provide a nice "fill" and compliment the separates in the front door nicely. (Driving them with a decent Pioneer four channel amp) I can't comment on bass production as I'm running a separate sub woofer and have these woofers rolled off at 120 HZ. Good sound, tricky installation
Bobby from Sandy, OR on 7/22/2019
My expert that I chatted with was super helpful and she recommended these for the replacement of my stock 2016 Ford F150 Lariat speakers. They sound great and were a nice improvement. The only problem I had was I wish I would have been told how much the adapters would have to be modified. All of the tabs had to be cut off because they wouldnt allow the speaker to sit flush and then you have to drill a hole in the bottom to run the wire from the speaker terminal to the plug. And then the mounting screws that are provided are too long and have to be replaced with 3/4" long screws so they dont hit the speaker opening in the door. Im actually very surprised nobody has mentioned that the screws will not work due to their length. So the adapter and screws are tricky to say the least but the speaker sounds good ??
Pros: Sound good, nice and clear highs
Cons: Adapter needs alot of modification and mounting screws are 1/2" too long

I looked up a couple of videos that showed how to make adapter brackets from the old speakers, and then when I got the speakers from Crutchfield, they included the plastic adapters that were necessary to keep the speaker magnet from hitting the metal of the door. They are full-range speakers, and replaced speakers that were just woofers, so I get better midrange and highs in the front seats, plus the bass is better than the factory speakers, which had started buzzing. You get a great product, great instructions, great adapters, and its all at a good price. I set aside 3 hours to do the work, and it was done in less than 2. Removing the door panels was the most time consuming part of the project. Thats out of Crutchfield's control obviously. Swapping the speakers without having to cut wires or modify brackets was wonderful.

Crutchfield Rep recommended these for the back doors of my F-150 to go with the Focal Integration components in the front. This setup sounds amazing with only my Kenwood head unit, even without a sub!

I love these speakers. The brackets and wiring provided by Crutchfield made the installation pretty straight forward. Music is crisp and full with these speakers.
Pros:
Cons: The brackets required some modification, but since I had a dremel tool on-hand it was pretty easy to get done.

These RCX-165 speakers are a clean sound. What the producer and artist wanted you to hear is what comes back from the speaker. Big improvement over the OEM speakers in my 2018 Forester Premium. I paired these with Kicker upgraded Forester tweeters and a Kicker Hideaway subwoofer. The improvement was so noticeable that I decided not to replace the OEM head unit, for now
Pros: Clear and clean sound, one axis tweeter helps the keep the sound stage focused. Better sound at a very reasonable price
Cons: It will take a few months for the speaker to break in, otherwise, none

Installed these in my '18 Malibu (without factory Bose) and they sound awesome. Excellent upgrade over factory. Side by side with the factory speakers you can definitely see the difference in quality. Once in and powered up, wow! Overall about a 20 minute procedure total to swap. Now on to the front components (Focal RSE-165). Thank you Crutchfield! BTW, don't forget to register these with Focal to ensure you get the full warranty.

Perfect Kickdrum snap and clear projection.
Andrew from Monterey, CA on 10/8/2018
2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek
I was thrilled with the overall heft of these speakers frame, and the fact that there were 8 mounting holes. They replaced the stock midrange speaker in my Subaru Crosstrek in the front doors. They have a good deal of low end thump; not like the baseline but the kickdrum snap and the fingerfeel of the bass guitar/synth stabs. They compliment the low end rumble of my subwoofer in the trunk to give the bump of the kickdrums. They have quite a lot of tweeter response but I dialed it down with a digital crossover.
Pros: Heavy frame, sturdy build tweeters are built in, 8 hole mounting performs down to 100hz no problem
Cons: can be shrill, wish the contacts were a little stronger/heftier
