About the Focal Sub 12 Dual

Solid performance
Solid performance
Focal has long been renowned for the quality of their speakers, and our customers agree — they consistently give their subs excellent ratings. Their Sub 12 Dual subwoofer continues the tradition with solid, clean bass, even at high volume levels. The sub's two voice coils let you wire it for 2- or 8-ohm impedance, giving you more flexibility when you expand your bass setup.
Built to take it
The Sub 12 Dual's polypropylene cone and butyl rubber surround handle up to 300 watts RMS with ease, with a vented steel basket that helps dissipate heat buildup when things are running hot. This sub's versatility fits into just about any kind of system, whether you prefer tight bass from a sealed box or fatter bass from a ported enclosure. You can add stylish protection to your sub with Focal's specially-designed 12" grille (sold separately).

Features
Materials: Focal uses a polypropylene cone and butyl rubber surround to withstand the harsh automotive environment.
Dual 4-ohm Voice Coils: The dual 4-ohm voice coils offer wiring flexibility; when wired in parallel the woofer presents a 2-ohm load, when wired in series the woofer presents an 8-ohm load.
Spring-Posts: The sub has spring-post terminals for easy connection of single banana plugs, pin connectors, or bare wire up to 10 gauge.
Sealed Enclosures: Sealed enclosures provide the most control over a woofer and provide accurate sonic reproduction, making them suitable for all types of music. Focal lists four sealed enclosure examples in the manual:
- 15 liters/0.53 ft³, resulting in a -3 dB point of 39 Hz
- 20 liters/0.71 ft³, resulting in a -3 dB point of 35 Hz
- 25 liters/0.88 ft³, resulting in a -3 dB point of 32 Hz
- 30 liters/1.06 ft³, resulting in a -3 dB point of 30 Hz
Ported Enclosures: Ported (or vented) enclosures typically provide better overall efficiency than sealed, maximizing bass output for a given amplifier. Focal lists three ported enclosure examples in the manual:
- 30 liters/1.06 ft³ using a 7cm/2.75" diameter x 35cm/13.75" long port, resulting in a tuning frequency of 30 Hz
- 35 liters/1.24 ft³ using an 8cm/3.15" diameter x 45cm/17.72" long port, resulting in a tuning frequency of 28 Hz
- 40 liters/1.41 ft³ using a 8cm/3.15" diameter x 45cm/17.72" long port, resulting in a tuning frequency of 25 Hz
