Not So Good

Got receiver, install kit & harness. WAS awesome. Went out yesterday & front display all on (blue), ended up killing my battery. No buttons responding to anything, including remote control. Tried call or virtual chat tech support, always seems to be closed. Should be an option to send an email or offline tech.

the boss 550B was just received on time and in good condition. keeping it as a spare to install when old one in car conks. 5 year warranty seems unbeatable. excellent intallation parts too. have ordered jvc and pioneer units in he past 15 years and all good. in fact all dealings with crutchfield plus superb tech advice makes crutch my first stop . thanks bob fisher

Old Fashioned and New Age meet

Bought this for my Moms 2009 Hyundai Accent. She loves it. It's simple for her, and it has a CD player. It was so easy for me to install with with a couple screw drivers. It was worth it for Crutchfield to put together the adapter that would be needed. It took me 10 minutes to install. To be fair I had taken the old one out a couple weeks prior. My husband held my tools, and was impressed :-)

Didn't expect too much as this is a lower end unit, but WOW ! Combined with the GM factory system, this thing rocks ! Paired quickly and easily and even picks up a couple distant fm stations (we don't have ANY local) . Looks nice and works great ! Very pleased

Quality for the price

Soild head unit. Everything it says it does, it does. Sound output is nice and crisp, a definite upgrade from OEM. 4/5 Stars only because the display is very bright, which is great for the day time. It's a different story at night, looking like a Whitewalker driving around glowing blue.

Not bad for the price, but some big time flaws. First it comes on loud no matter what the volume when turned off. Second flaw is it just blanks out and all presets are gone and need to be reset., its like someone pulled the plug. I will probably contact customer service for a return

Stopped working 4 months in

Stopped working after 4 months. Very disappointing. Would not recommend. Fuses are good, wiring is good, so radio seems shot.

I give it a 4 star, because everything works great except for the buttons to the left of the volume knob. Apparently, the actual buttons on the circuit board must be close together. When trying to push one button, it will select something totally different. For example, you press the power button, but it was change from CD to FM radio, which is the button below the power. Its not a big deal to me though, I can live with it.

The radio was very easy to install, with the wiring instructions and mounting sleeve. The sound is great and the CD player works very smoothly. I can't say how long this radio will last. It was about one third the price of an OEM radio. The quality might not be as good as the OEM radio, but it it works good and has a lot of features that the OEM doesn't have. I would recommend this radio as a replacement if your old radio quits working.

It functions decently, but there are a couple of things that fall short. I listen to books on mp3, which is why I liked the front USB port to use with a small flash drive. But the first 1-2 seconds of every file fades in. I don't know if this is by design, or if it just takes that time to get the file playing, but the effect is pretty unsatisfactory. Every 3-4 minutes you miss two-three words in the book, making for a choppy listening experience. The other issue is the internal microphone for bluetooth calling. I have a 21-year-old car whose interior noise level at speed is louder than newer vehicles. I have to speak pretty loudly for the person to hear me. Many times I simply use the stereo to make/answer the calls, then pick up my phone to have the actual conversation. This isn't necessarily the fault of the receiver, but simply making sure you pick the right receiver for the right application. Knowing what I know now, I would probably have spent more money to get a better unit with an external mic, and done my research about the mp3 file fade-in.

Worked well for 2 days

This stereo was really easy to install in my 2002 chevy silverado and looks great in it. However, the buttons went crazy and started acting really finicky and developed a mind of their own after 2 days. I'm very disappointed.

Happy in Walt Disney World!

My husband installed this in my 2001 VW New Beetle this past weekend and it is a great buy! We went for a ride and purposely went on some bumps while playing the CD and no skips at all. It was the easiest install I've ever seen and done, no cutting the dash. Splice the wires together,put the kit on the radio,put it in the dash. It worked out great, even had the wire on the radio to make the lights light up in the speakers in the doors. Great all the way

This receiver was easy too install, sounds great, like all the features. I would have gave this product a five star rating and this why I did not. The sound is way too loud when you turn the car on. The sound comes on at number 19 every time the receiver turns on. The receiver should come on at the leavel it was turned off, but this receiver come on very loud evry time and you have too turn it down very quickly to the volume that you want. First time I've seen a receiver do this, don't know why or can it be corrected? Its just annoying!

Poor radio reception.

Installed radio and acted like no antenna attached. Both AM and FM signals was very weak. Installed new antenna and cable and problem continued. Was sent a second unit and problem was still there. Will return both radios and install another brand.

Clear Spring

Good radio for the price. Installed in a 2003 TJ Wrangler. Install kit made the install professional looking and easy. A little hint for the Jeepsters. Do NOT entirely cut away the factory rear mount. Leave the center mount hole and bracket in place. Unit bolts directly into the factory bracket. You couldn't ask for a better rear mount. I would have rated with 5 stars but the instructions are a little hard to follow and I can't figure out how to get the time constantly displayed??

While the features of this radio are good it was missing the one I overlooked: iPhone compatibility. Normally for a radio I don't like to use BT to answer the phone and the only way to play the radio is to use BT. This was on me for not researching enough. The unit is very simple to install and does sound adequate with the factory speakers; I could have replaced those for better sound. Would I buy this again for my other car? Not sure but it was better than no music at all.

I don't recommend

The installation was easy enough in my '09 Grand Marquis, but not satisfactory in performance. Perhaps if my vehicle was tinted all around the display might be bright enough, but even a cloudy day projected enough sunlight through the windshield to wash out the display. Also, the comfortable listening volume level apparently is lost when the ignition is turned off, because when the key is turned on again it's at near-max volume blasting (There's at least one other review citing a similar volume problem). I will be returning and looking for something else.

Nice basic radio with many features.

I'm pretty impressed with the radio. Just finished installing it and going through the setup for clock, presets, etc. The only reason I give it a 4 out of 5 is due to the menu options. If you want to change the EQ mode, you have several selections to go through before getting to the EQ settings. If you happen to go past it in the menu, there isn't a way to go backwards. Same for changing bass, treble, balance, fader, etc. The loudness option, when on, seems to distort the sound, however I installed this in a 2002 Sebring Convertible, so I don't have much for a roof to use for acoustics. Another possibility is the dash speakers should be replaced.

I think people fail to read manuals.... this unit does have bass and treble functions in addition it has an automatic volume setting where u can pick the level of volume the unit goes to automatically when car starts.... awesome sound and features for the price... 5 stars. Install was easy once I had the correct wiring harness to match up with my factory harness. The buttons seem small and whenever I turn the radio on, it automatically defaults to a volume of 20 when a volume level of 3-4 is more than enough.

It is fine. Worth the money, but nothing more. Got it to have Bluetooth. Sound over Bluetooth is kinda wavy (volume goes up and down). Holding on to my OEM in case I decide to swap them back out.
