Fantastic Radio Upgrade for my Colorado

I bought this to upgrade the factory radio in my 2012 Chevrolet Colorado. I really like this unit, even more so after I turned off the system "beeps". I added a wireless Carplay adapter that I bought online so I could stay cord free, and it works flawlessly. I simply drilled a hole into the dash kit, and the adapter sits in the little pocket behind the screen. The adjustability of the screen works perfectly, it only covers the button for traction control, which is a non-issue. My wife could hear me clearly when I called her through Carplay. Amazon Music through Carplay sounds great, I use one of the built-in EQs. I did opt for the ReadyHarness, which I would fully recommend for anyone. Such a time saver! I read a lot of complaints about the screen brightness at night, but mine is just fine. It automatically adjusts the brightness when the automatic lights come on and go off, and you can change the brightness settings on the unit itself, mine is set to 1. I have yet to install the backup camera, so I cannot write anything regarding that. I know that it will work since every time I throw my truck into reverse it tries to pull up the camera. I just turned off the backup camera setting for now until I find the time to install that. My only complaint with this is that the screen is completely black when I put on my polarized sunglasses. I bought a protective film online to put on it, and it completely took care of that problem.

Great product

I've had this installed for about a week and, so far, it's been great. I use Android Auto with it, and the navigation seems to work whether there's good Internet or not. The Spotify connection has also been spotless, regardless of Internet connection. Installation took me all day, but it was the first time I've ever installed an aftermarket radio. Splicing the radio wiring to the car's harness took the longest for me. If you're not confident in your writing I think Crutchfield will take care of the splicing for you, for a fee. Routing the wiring for, and mounting, the backup camera also took a good chunk of time. But it all works and I couldn't be happier so far.

Excellent replacement for Mercedes factory Bose

Excellent replacement for the factory Bose radio in my CLK Mercedes. I was worried about the large size of the screen but with a few changes to locations of the climate controller and the new head stereo, it worked perfectly! The original Bose radio kept running down my battery until it was dead if the car sat for a week. The new Boss radio fixed that issue. Two weeks and battery is still at full charge. I moved the climate controller below the radio and put the new Boss stereo in the climate controller slot. No wire to splice just unplugged the connectors and used the multi radio tool I bought from Crutchfield to move each to the new slot. I attached a couple photos showing the view from the driver's seat after moving to the new slots. I have to say do not hesitate to buy the pre assembled wiring harness that Crutchfield offers. No wires to splice, or change. I bought the additional steering wheel controller module and the one to control levels to the factory Bose amplifier. There is nothing to splice just plug it in and install it in the dash. Even the backup camera control hot wire for reverse camera has push together terminals that I just had to plug together . No splicing into the backup lights. Wow, It couldn't be more easy. And the wiring job was very professionally done. I was afraid there wasn't enough room for the two black boxes behind the Stereo but they fit like a champ.

Big Screen, Great Value

I put this Boss system in a 2002 Honda Accord for my daughter. She really wanted a reverse camera so I went with the -C. Wow, impressive screen and the reverse camera is a great option. I n had to call for support to locate the reverse light wire and they were fast and friendly! Great radio and great service. Thanks Crutchfield!

Great value for the money!

I was reluctant the first time I tried one of the Boss head units since I had previously only used brands with a higher level reputation, but with current technology and the experience I've had with the last few, it's an easy transition to choosing them as a great value. I mainly use CarPlay at this point which levels the playing field. Admittedly I use Focal speakers and outboard amp, but that also aides in my decision to afford me a higher level speaker and get a quality interface in Boss.

Unreliable unit with common problem

Died after 3 1/2 years of use. Intermittently wont boot up.button lights come on, screen lights up but no logo no boot. Sometimes soft reset helps but usually not. Checked all connections. Looking this up in chat groups reddit etc. this apparently happens alot. Also, had a terrible echo on callers end when using bluetooth mic.

Great radio. This is the second one I've owned (the first being the 7inch version) this one is even more responsive than the first. lots of adjustments to brightness, colors, and tuning. With a volume knob which was a must for me. also love the removable screen. Takes a target off your back as far as potential theft. Overall great radio with a good warranty

Huge Screen

I have a 96 Tahoe that my girlfriend primarily drives and constantly has struggled with many phone holder accessories that either the phone would fall off or holder would be bouncy and unstable. So, I started looking into the double-din units that support Apple CarPlay touchscreens and something with backup camera ability and finally decided to go with this Boss Audio unit which came with the rear camera upgrade. Man what a large screen making it easy to use and follow maps when navigating your travels. Camera works very well. Great clarity with built in led lighting provides great nighttime images . Install was rather easy including tapping into the vehicles parking brake and reverse wires. The adjustability of the screen allows you to adjust up and down and pivoting to accommodate your viewing needs. Doesn't interfere with the hvac controls or the gearshift which was my biggest concern. Overall very user friendly and very pleased and would recommend this product.

Great upgrade

You won't regret purchasing this unit. From the enormous vibrant touchscreen to exceptional sound that this unit puts out, it's a home run! The movable floating screen is very convenient and allows you to tweak its position side to side and up and down. The ? airplay & Android Auto options enables use of your cell apps with ease with hands free giving you the option to connect via Bluetooth to stream your music. It fits perfectly into the OEM radio space with the dash inserts that are purchased separately for your vehicle. I also highly recommend the specific wiring harnesses. Also if installing a backup camera with this unit (with the wiring harnesses) all connections are fulfilled WITHOUT having to do any splicing, enabling the camera to activate automatically when the vehicle is put in reverse. I'd give installation a #3 out of 10 with the majority of time spent is loosening the dash pieces to remove the stock unit.

Decent stereo, poor software

The product is sufficient but it arrived with multiple parallel marks/scratches in the center of the screen which appear to be internal and from the factory. The Apple CarPlay is only wired and disconnects randomly and requires you to unplug and replug your phone in while driving. It seems to be a software bug as I have used multiple (including Apple certified) usb cables. I've searched the internet and there are no fixes for this issue.

Dont buy, crashes constantly.

Lots of problems with this head unit. I've had if for about a year so far. 1. Android Auto randomly crashes the unit. I just gave up after about a month. It would crash randomely or when i chenged the volume. The whole unit would reboot. 2. When streaming it will randomly exit to the bluetoooth screen and you have to go to the home screen then back int streaming. 3. the connector on the back keeps coming loos and ive had to take the head unti out 4 times so far just to wiggle the connector and get it working again. Overall the worst item I've ever bought from Crutchfield. Tech support did their best to help but unfortunately this head unit is crap.

The sound quality is pretty good, definitely not competition level but I wasn't looking for that when I bought this. The only other issue I have with this unit is CarPlay keeps disconnecting randomly when I'm driving. I have tried a bunch of cords and now I have a wireless CarPlay adapter and it doesn't seem to help either. Kinda disappointed about that because of the money I spent on this unit and I had a cheaper kenwood in my old truck and it worked flawlessly. Wish I would've just stayed in my lane and used a brand I know works .

Very easy installation, especially with kit provided. Very easy to setup and to use features of unit. Great screen resolution for mapping. Fit perfect in the middle of my '02 F-350 SD, backup camera is a wonderful feature.

Incompatible with polarized sunglasses

The screen is polarized in such a way that when you put on polarized sunglasses you can't see the display at all unless if you tilt your head to the side. This is unacceptable for a car stereo and I called boss audio and they said this is a known issue with all their units and they won't fix mine.

Great head unit, easy installation.

Great stereo and easy installation. This head unit has so many great features. It is super easy to operate and was also super easy to install. I put it in a 1988 GMC sierra k1500. The instructions made specifically for my vehicle made things so much simpler. I also installed new boss audio 4x6 speakers in the dash and kicker 4x6 speakers in the rear pillars. It all sounds great now.

Comments on this unit

Have yet to figure out how to get the screen every time I start my vehicle, I always get, "Allow connection" to such and such devices. I can't get to my radio screen until I accept these device requests. Also, have yet to figure out why my screen won't dim during the evening when it gets dark. I wish the device came with an adapter to allow the unit to be raised by an inch or inch and a half, due to the fact it hangs over my A/C and Heating controls. The unit also does an overlap at times when it comes to Google maps and Apple play. Other than these issues I've come across, it really is a nice unit. I had it professionally installed.

Made it work in a 1982 ElCamino

Very happy with this product. Did a custom install in a 1982 El Camino. I wanted a big screen, but did not have room for a 2 din. I was able to modify the original 2 shaft opening to accept a single din. Does not block the heater AC controls. I replaced the stock cigarette lighter with a double USB plug. Top plug connects to charging, lower is Apple CarPlay.

This product works well, the UI is snappy and is easy to navigate. I had no installation problems with it aside from car issues. One visible downside: the resolution is low for the size of the screen making it seem a little blurry. It doesn't work with my stock 2 ohm speakers. Not sure how common that is in the aftermarket, but it was a surprise that nobody mentioned it when they made the harness etc.

I have one of these in my 06 Ridgeline and one in my 04 Durango. Great sound for the price, no glitches. Crutchfield supplied a plug and play harness with steering wheel controls and wireless module which made installation really simple.

Constantly disconnecting, bad picture

Bought for my older truck to have a screen. Had it for a day and a half. Disconnected on my first drive. It just turned off and came back on. I'm assuming the radio has a cooling issue. When I was testing it, it got extremely hot. Disconnected 4 times within 5 minutes on the way home from work. Won't be getting another boss radio any time soon.

carplay phone calls are really bad.

carplay has a severe echo on phone calls. Installed the latest firmware, but no luck. Tried with multiple iPhone versions and iOS versions. Calls sound great over bluetooth.

Disconnecting from Android Play intermittently

I read reviews about the Android CarPlay disconnecting on this model, but figured they had worked out the kinks or updated the unit. Nope! My deck intermittently disconnects then reconnects and sometimes the whole unit turns itself off completely. I can't use this. I use Android Play for my job and can't have the unit disconnecting while I'm using the GPS. I love everything else but this is a quirk that obviously hasn't been addressed by Crutchfield or BOSS. Hopefully, I can get a refund or credit to my account because this unit is coming out immediately. Look for a different brand

Difficult to beat price point, mainly use it for CarPlay

Installed this unit in a 2002 Suburban after installing a similar unit in an older Silverado a few years back. The screen is very large and needs to be angled all the way to the driver or the shifter interferes with the display. Shifter is still close but does not hit it and display can be adjusted when in drive. The install is pretty straight forward and easy. I was a little disappointed in the support from Crutchfield during the install. However, partially my fault. Make sure you read the included instructions if you install in a early 2000's GM SUV/truck as some info is not included in the emailed instructions(blue wire from aftermarket harness to pink wire on unused harness in dash). I had an issue with having no sound but display powering up. I called support to find out troubleshooting and was told that I may have a short to a speaker or a blown speaker. So after removing all door panels and several backend panels to find no wiring issues or blown speakers, I searched online for the issue and found that there is a wire from aftermarket harness that needs spliced/connected to a wire in harness already in the dash IF your vehicle already has a factory amplifier. Once I got that done, everything worked as should. This is the info that was included in packaging on a sheet of paper that I found when cleaning everything up, so again, partially my fault. I wish this was included in installation email or would have been suggested when I called support.

Would go with Crutchfield every time when buying car audio!

Awesome unit! Did everything stated and sounds great! Can't say enough good things about Crutchfield! They were perfect from pre-sale to install. Payed the extra $ to get the wiring pre set up by them and that helped immensely with the install. This is the way buying and installing a car stereo should be! Crutchfield staff gave me great advice on the proper speakers to best go with this unit. My 17 year old is very happy! Thank you for great products, knowledgeable tech support, and prompt shipping. I would give 10 stars if I could!

Very nice looking and nice sounding head unit. The only complaints I have are related to the backup camera. There's an annoying message that tells you to check your surroundings, and it is a little larger than it needs to be. Also the backup camera is a little choppy. Still a great value, and great! I haven't been able to play around with it too much, but I was really impressed with it immediately.

4 Stars for product, 6 Stars for Crutchfield Support!

The stereo is nice, as many other reviewers have mentioned. My main gripe is that the lcd display has polarizing filters that interact with polarizing sunglasses in a way that amplifies the polarization effect and makes the screen significantly dimmer than with non-polarizing sunglasses. It's a bummer if you paid extra for polarized driving glasses and then have to use regular ones because of this screen. The real star of the show is Crutchfield support! I had a problem with my 2006 Acura MDX with Bose speakers transmitting a whining sound through the speakers when I revved the engine after I installed this unit (I also purchased the Ready Harness service which made install a breeze--totally worth it for me). Preston from support was able to quickly diagnose my problem as needing to tap in one of the ground wires coming out of the crux unit to the vehicle ground. I was able to quickly fix the problem after getting off the phone with Preston and it saved me hours of searching online and troubleshooting that I would have had to do if I'd bought this off another retailer. This is why I bought this from Crutchfield! 100% would make the same decision to buy a car stereo here again. Kudos to you, Preston!

Great sound, large screen

This unit is pretty cool. It's large and I like that it swivels a little bit so it's easier for the driver to see. Easy to install single din unit with the right bracket. I had an issue with it at first not detecting google maps, but it was solely my phone putting maps to deep sleep. The sound is great, easy to use, and much more convenient than the stock uconnect in my town and country. The backup camera is nice, but the quality I wouldn't say is HD. I may consider upgrading that to something a little better in the future.

Good but not optimal

Overall, this unit is effective and does what I need (Android Auto platform). Setup was a challenge, but that has much more to do with Toyota than anything else. I have a few minor gripes that are a matter of preference (could really be an Android Auto issue), but one important one. Be prepared to try multiple USB cables to get Android Auto (may also be an issue for Carplay) to work. The first two cables I used (one new, one venerable) resulted in regular crashes and disconnects. This is SUPER FUN when navigating. I bought a new, high quality cable that mostly helps. On a five hour trip, it only crashed once. I prefer no crashes, but can live with it now. The sounds is solid and the screen is clear and responsive. Overall, I'd likely purchase again. As a side note, I have purchased from Crutchfield before. This was the first time I did not get the customer service that I have become accustomed to. I'm sure your mileage may vary...

Buyer Beware

Soooo disappointing! Amazing concept, terrible execution... They sound amazing, and they look pretty cool too. Unfortunately, I had to warranty the first one after about a year. It just started bugging out one day on my way home with reverse cam issues, then the volume quit working, it randomly shut off and turned back on after that it had connectivity issues and it all happened within minutes one day after about a year of flawless performance. Installed the second one, and like clock work about the same time and the same exact issues started happening! Boss has an amazing no haggle warranty and Crutchfield is amazing to deal with. In all honesty, I wish they would just refund me store credit because even though I'll get another free replacement I just don't want another one. I'm done, 2 in a row same issues same amount of time. I feel bad for Boss because I imagine the money they are losing on these hurts.

I wish I could give 5 stars. I'm impressed with the head unit, the sound, screen size and how it looks. Like others I'm experiencing it dropping out when it's connected with USB cord for Android Auto. I've used 3 new USB cables to plug in my phone and even replaced the phone. I haven't contacted tech support so I'm not knocking that they won't stand behind the product or correct the issue. The slightest touch of the cord or moving it seems to knock the connection off. It's annoying and I plan on ordering a replacement that would be considered an upgrade anyway so I just deal with it until im ready to replace it. It's a great value for the money and most people don't seem to have this problem but there are other reviews that share my issue. Everything needed came for an easy installation for the vehicle. It's worth buying any recommended installation kits that Crutchfield recommends

Very nice BIG 'floating' screen, but only wired Apple CarPlay.that's a deal breaker for me. I am returning and getting the smaller (double DIN) Boss model with wireless CarPlay. Great economical brand, though. If you can live with the wired CarPlay, the screen size is amazing!!

Android Auto/Device work around

Overall, great unit. Only major complaint is the wired Android Auto. With the Samsung z fold3, connecting the phone to the unit triggers a false moisture/debris detection error disabling the phone's USB port. Only work around I've found is to: 1. Turn off the phone 2. Start the car/power on radio. 3. Plug phone in 4. Turn on phone When you want to disconnect, turn off the unit, then disconnect the phone. Additionally, the backup camera is pretty low quality, but it's better than nothing.

3 years of working good, now just an FM radio

This product worked pretty good...until it didn't. I never could get a single AM radio station to come in. FM was fine. Luckily Android Auto worked. But now that just gave out. It's a wired connection, which is kind of a pain, but replaced the USB cable, updated firmware, and tried numerous phones but nothing fixes it. I don't recommend this unit.

Nice screen

The screen works well and looks great. I like the adjustability of the BOSS settings and the 8-Band EQ. The carplay is quick to respond and looks good. The internal amp is also pretty good for the price. NOTE FOR MANUAL TRANSMISSION OWNERS: I purchased this and was told the backup camera would work for my installation. Yesterday, I installed the backup camera and it would not turn off. I called support and was told for the first time that it does not work with my 5-speed manual transmission due to having constant 12V power. I was told I could run power from the fuse box, which is true, but this should be listed as a note and disclosed before purchase. It would be five stars but it's very aggravating that the non-functionality for certain manual transmissions is not disclosed Pre-Sale. Other than that it is a great unit and has plenty of adjustability for me.

I have not attached the camera yet but the unit works great. Would prefer that CarPlay was wireless but it does say it is wired. You can still do wireless Bluetooth though so it isn't a hindrance. I would like if it got a little brighter but it is still usable. I do appreciate that it dims when I turn on headlights.

Solid Head Unit!

I've been a fan of high-end custom audio for years. Is this high-end custom audio? Probably not, but for the price it does a heck of a lot right. Physical volume control knob, excellent. Easy to use and solid EQ's with presets, check. Tons of I/O for future add-ons, check. Backup camera, all good (make sure you get an extension for long vans/SUV's). Screen is massive and bright but dims nicely at night. Can't beat it for the price and wife really likes how this upgrades the kid hauler and adds Apple Carplay/a backup camera to an older vehicle.

Terrible radio. I purchased this in February of 2023 and it would continually disconnect from Android auto. Crutchfield was fine they changed it out twice. But I am still having issues and so frustrated with installing it multiple times. I am done with it and you should STRONGLY consider a different brand.

Good stereo for the price! Replaced a different aftermarket head unit with this so I could integrate my smartphone. Ran into som problems during the install and started going down a long path. Called Crutchfield and the tech help was on point! Determined the problem and everything went smooth from there. Wish I had called first prior to pulling wiring diagrams and plenty of internet searches.

Great DIsplay

Get display, easy to install, I had my harnesses prebuilt amazingly. The only gripe I have is that when you go in reverse the display goes to the camera and if I have Android Auto on it goes to the main display and I have to reselect Android Auto.

Not a bad unit

It's not a bad unit, install was pretty simple. The cons: the microphone included doesn't stay in place and people had hard time hearing me on it. The camera included with the unit has terrible pixels/quality. The unit is very bright at night and not able to dim it at all so that is distracting. I returned for a different unit and crutchfield was very helpful.

2010 Town and Country

Sounds amazing and does everything I want it to do. I especially love the extra large screen and sensitive touch panel. Much easier to use than my Kenwood in my other car, The included install kit made it an easy job with only the wire run for the camera a hassle. The reason for the 4 star rating is the back up camera isn't that clear.

This reciever breaks after just a simple firmware update, Bluetooth wont recognize on my phone and i know 100% it is not the phone, i was really hoping this thing wouldnt be junk, but it is :/ just buy more expensive. All im hoping for is some sort of refund though i doubt id get that .

I've been installing my head units since I started driving in the 90's and never expected to buy a boss deck let alone for over 300. But so far it's been great, it's better than the factory carplay) android audio deck in my wife's Elantra. If it's disconnecting on you with Android Auto it's most likely your usb-c cable...

Exceeded My Expectations

I drive a 2009 Ford Edge SEL. My wife has been STRONGLY suggesting that I upgrade my car to get more safety features, especially a back-up camera. My neighbor has installed 3 of these Boss units in his cars and has been suggesting I get one too. I finally broke down and ordered it (along with the 2 suggested install kits). Okay, I am fortunate that my can-do-almost-anything neighbor agreed to install it for me. The result: OMG the back up camera and large screen is amazing. It is far superior to my wife's 2018 very expensive German SUV's back-up camera. The Apple Play is amazing. The quality of the sound is so much better. I would have thought you would have to change out the speakers to get this much sound quality. I have only had it a week and I am still learning how to enjoy all the benefits.

After a littler over a year in service, radio stopped working. It started with the volume control not working. Had to use the steering wheel to control volume. Then after setting the volumes for radio, phone, navigation, bluetooth, etc. they stop working. Then the radio would shut down all together, but after a while would come back on. and now the radio has stop all together. The only things on are the menu button that change colors.

Junk stay away

Junk. Installed fine but over the last few months its been having cant connect issues and the touch screen has been un responsive. It has been causing issues with the jeep in general today it started flickering and causing the dash lights to come on and my wipers to turn on and off. The head unit finally went dark and the problems stopped. Checked all the wiring its fine no issues there head unit has some sort of issue internally

Everything except the Android Auto aspect is garbage.

Screen is great. Very responsive. Android Auto is unreliable on it. I have to keep reconnecting the cable every it disconnects and it disconnects and resets every couple minutes. Don't bother buying it if you primarily use Android Auto. I can't comment on Apple Carplay as I don't use an Apple device.

Good brightness and made my stock speakers louder

It was my first time buying a stereo that stick out of the dash but could use a few software updates for more customization options but regardless it's a pretty nice looking stereo I would recommend if you want hands free Bluetooth calls with Its microphone included and a back up camera (optional) for safety reasons but other then that I really do love it
