    CarPlay & Bluetooth Integration

CarPlay: Apple CarPlay is a smarter, safer way to use your USB-connected iPhone 5 or newer (running iOS 7.1+) with Lightning-connector in the car, while you stay focused on the road. Apple CarPlay takes the things you want to do with your iPhone while driving and integrates them into the Boss Elite BE62CP. Apple CarPlay offers an incredibly intuitive way to make calls, view maps, listen to music, and access messages from your compatible iPhone through the Boss Elite BE62CP in-dash receiver. With Apple CarPlay, you can control these functions from the BE62CP receiver's 6.2" touchscreen or activate Siri for minimized distraction.

    • Maps: Through Apple CarPlay, the power and simplicity of Apple Maps comes to your dashboard; complete with turn-by-turn direction, traffic conditions, and estimated travel time. You can enter a new destination or choose a favorite or recent destination using the head unit's touchscreen or by simply asking Siri. CarPlay can also predict where you most likely want to go using addresses from your email, text messages, contacts, and calendars. If you have iOS 12.0 or newer on your iPhone with the latest version of Google Maps or Waze, you can choose to navigate via Google Maps or Waze instead of CarPlay. Google Maps and Waze do not support Siri voice control, but will have their own proprietary voice control function which has to be accessed through a touchscreen icon on the receiver.
    • Phone: With Apple CarPlay, you can use the BE62CP's interactive touchscreen or ask Siri to make calls, return calls, and check voicemail. To dial a phone number, simply tap the "Phone" icon and Siri will ask you who you want to call. Using the touchscreen you can manually enter a phone number from the on-screen keypad, scroll through contacts, or select from recent and miss calls. In addition, you get access to your voicemails via touchscreen and Siri. When a call comes in, simply tap the "Phone" icon to answer. You'll carry on your side of the conversation through the included external microphone, while the other party is heard through your vehicle's speakers. You can emphasize or weaken the volume level the microphone. You can also select which car speaker outputs the caller audio; you can select All, Front-Left, Front-Right, or Front-Left/Right.
    • Text Messages: Apple CarPlay also lets you enjoy a better and safer way of text messaging with friends and family when you're on the road, through the Boss receiver and Siri. Through your voice commands, Siri can send, read, and reply to your text messages so that you never have to glance at your phone while behind the wheel. When a new message comes in a banner will come across the screen and Siri will read back the message for you. Text messages cannot be read or typed from the head unit's touchscreen to prevent driver distraction.
    • Music Library: CarPlay lets you access your music in your iPhone's music library, plus iTunes radio from the Boss Elite BE62CP. You can browse your music by Playlist, Artist, Song, etc.. just like you would on your iPhone from the BE62CP's touchscreen. You can also use Siri to find and play back your music. The BE62CP's touchscreen will display song/artist information, as well as album art in the background. Tap the Now Playing icon on the Boss receiver's capacitive touchscreen and see song, artist, album information with Album Art displaying in the background. From the Now Playing screen you also get basic playback function, like Play/Pause, Previous Next/Track, Fast Forward/Rewind, and Repeat/Shuffle.
    • Audio Apps & Podcasts: CarPlay also supports additional audio apps that you've downloaded to your iPhone for enjoying music, podcasts, sports, news, and audiobooks - including Pandora, Tidal, Spotify, iHeart Radio, TuneIn Radio, Slacker Radio, Vox, Stitcher, MLB.com At Bat, CBS Radio News, NPR One, OverCast, Audiobooks.com & Audible (subscriptions and fees may app). Control them from the head unit's touchscreen or Siri just like you would from your iPhone. Your iPhone's touchscreen remains unlocked during CarPlay connection, so you are able to access additional music apps and listen to them through the Boss receiver; however these apps offer no control or display information from the head unit's touchscreen.
    • Apple HomeKit Compatible: CarPlay now supports control of Apple HomeKit enabled devices (sold separately) through Siri. Using CarPlay in your vehicle, you can ask Siri to close or open your garage door, turn on or off home lighting, increase or decrease the temperature of your thermostat, as well as control select functions of other Apple HomeKit enabled devices and appliances. Click here for a list of compatible Apple HomeKit products.
    Notes:
    • Apple CarPlay is compatible with iPhone 5 or newer running iOS 7.1 or newer.
    • Make sure your plug in your iPhone 5 or newer to the BE62CP's rear-panel USB port labeled "Apple CarPlay" with an Apple certified Lightning-to-USB cable (not compatible with the front-panel USB port). Use a USB cable that is under 6' long and avoid using any extension cable.
    • Bluetooth hands-free phone and wireless music streaming cannot be used while Apple CarPlay is being used with a connected iPhone.
    • The BE62CP does not support Android Auto.

Bluetooth 4.2+EDR: The Boss Elite BE62CP is equipped with built-in Bluetooth 4.2+EDR allowing you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver; as well as stream music wirelessly from your smartphone to the head unit. With Secure Simple Pairing (SSP), you can easily pair a Bluetooth enabled phone to the Boss Elite BE62CP without having to enter pin codes or go through complicated settings. When an already paired Bluetooth device is in close proximity to the receiver, the auto connection function automatically pairs the two units.

    • Hands-Free Communication (External Mic): The Boss Elite BE62CP allows for wireless communication between the head unit and your Bluetooth enabled smartphone. Thanks to the latest Hands-Free Profile (HFP 1.6) with wideband speech capability, the BE62CP provides more natural sound quality and details during wireless calls. The receiver will display the caller's phone number and an audible ring tone will be heard through your vehicle's speaker during an incoming call. You can manually answer or end a call through the head unit's front-panel controls (or set the receiver to automatically answer the call). The BE62CP allows you to carry on the phone conversation using the included external microphone and your car audio speakers. Your music will mute automatically during a call. You can make a call using the Boss receiver's LCD touchscreen via its on-screen keypad, your phone's transferred phonebook, or a list of your most recent calls.
    • Wireless Audio Streaming: The Boss Elite BE62CP allows wireless play back of stored music and music apps from your Bluetooth enabled smartphone, tablet, or other device using a Bluetooth connection. You can control basic music playback functions, like Play/Pause & Previous/Next Track from the Boss head unit (advanced music browsing will still be done from your Bluetooth source device). The unit will also display song/artist information (no Album art). When an incoming call or outgoing call is in progress from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, audio streaming will be paused so you can take your call. Once the call is finished, your streaming music will resume.
Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the Boss receiver.

Cellular & Data Plan Requirements: Access to CarPlay apps will depend on the availability of a cellular and/or WiFi network for purposes of allowing your Apple iPhone to connect to the Internet. Your compatible Apple iPhone device will need an active Data Plan account with connection to the Internet via 3G, EDGE, LTE (4G), or WiFi.

Smartphone Charging: The Boss Elite BE62CP will also charge (5V/1.5A) your Apple CarPlay compatible iPhone while connected via USB with the vehicle's ignition switch set to the 'ACC' or 'On' position.

    USB/SD/AV Connectivity

You can search by folder or file, control playback functions (such as Play/Pause & Previous/Next Track), well as view song/artist information - including album art. Q
It says you need a factory mounting bracket. I have a 2012 Suzuki Grand Vitara and Suzuki left the US market. What can I do? Can I reuse the existing bracket? What is the bracket sold with the optional installation package used for if not this?
    ray t  Jun 04, 2023
    1 answer
    A
Greetings Ray, and thank you for your question. A double din aftermarket stereo, like this Boss will need the factory radio brackets. If you still have the factory radio installed, you remove those from each side of the radios chassis, and re attach to the new stereos chassis. The install kit we have for the Suzuki would need those factory brackets to attach the new bezel, and then back into your dash.

    Q
Can I get a ready harness for this?
    bradley  May 03, 2023
    1 answer
    A
Thank you for your question, Brad. When you purchase a radio and installation package together here at Crutchfield, you can add our ReadyHarness wiring service to your order on most installations. I recommend reaching out to an Advisor either by phone 1-800-324-9695 or online chat, they'll be able to determine if your vehicle and installation package allows ReadyHarness to be added to your order.

    Q
Will all of my stock steering wheel controls still work such as skip song, answer phone, and control volume?
    keegan  Apr 24, 2023
    1 answer
    A
Thank you for your question, Keegan. The ability to retain steering wheel controls with aftermarket receivers will be determined by the receiver you are using and the vehicle you have. For full information on this type of integration (including the parts you will need) please contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.

    Q
Will this radio still allow use of a factory back up camera?
    wyatt  Apr 14, 2023
    1 answer
    A
That would depend on the specific vehicle interface used to install the Boss BE62CP radio, Wyatt. Use our handy Vehicle Guide in the link below to enter your ride's year, make, model, and specific trim and we will pair the right install gear and show you any retained original features (including backup camera, steering wheel controls, etc). If you have any questions, don't hesitate to call us at 1-800-324-9695 and a live Advisor can put a package together for you and get your order placed. We are always here to help! https://www.crutchfield.com/m_266150/Car-Stereos.html

    Q
Which RCA input on the back do you use for subwoofers?
    parker  Mar 04, 2023
    1 answer
    A
There are two blue RCA connections labeled "SUB1" and "SUB2" for the connection of aftermarket powered subs or subwoofer amplifiers.

    Q
I have this unit and it has worked for me flawlessly until recently. Now, no matter what, whenever I turn off my car or I try to make or receive a call the volume goes to zero. Even when making a call I call hear it ringing but, when the other person answers it drops back to zero and I have to quickly turn it back up! HELP?

    Q
Do you have to plug in through the rear usb to access carplay or can you access carplay through the front usb as well? Im mainly looking to access through the front, so that i will not have to drill holes anywhere to access the rear port
    jalen  Jan 07, 2023
    1 answer
    A
Greetings Jalen, and thank you for your question. The Boss BE62CP's rear USB supports Apple Carplay, not the front USB. The front US would be for a USB thumb drive. We currently do not have an Apple Carplay stereo that you can use the front USB port for Carplay.
    thomas  Jan 07, 2023 (Staff)
    Q
Can you run a USB extension from the rear USB so that you can plug in from the front? My thought is to replace the lighter with a USB port that makes the CarPlay more accessible.
    amy j.  Dec 30, 2022
    1 answer
    A
Absolutely, Amy. The PAC USBDMA6 in the link below is one of our favorite USB extensions and it does work well with Carplay and Android Auto. It comes with a mounting bracket as well, it's a top pick!

    Q
will it work with factory amp and speakers on a bose 05 corvette when using the additional harness recommended?
    bruce  Dec 10, 2022
    1 answer
    A
Yes you will retain your factory amp with that Boss unit and the accompanying recommended installation gear.

    Q
when using rear USB apple car play plug can a passenger plug into the usb port on the front at the same time and charge their phone?
    craig  Nov 19, 2022
    1 answer
    A
That's right Craig! When using the rear CarPlay USB port you can connect a second device to the front panel solely for charging purposes. The front panel port shares the same 1.5A charge capability as the rear. You are good to go here!
    bo  Nov 20, 2022 (Staff)
    Q
when using the apple car play rear USB plug does it charge your phone at the same time?
    craig  Nov 19, 2022
    1 answer
    A
The Boss BE62CP's rear panel USB will charge your connected phone with a 1.5A trickle charge when connected for CarPlay use Craig. This is solid for most phones, but some newer extremely large screen phones will of course charge slower. In the bang for the buck category, this Boss is almost unbeatable!
    bo  Nov 19, 2022 (Staff)
    Q
Is the usb rear connector used as an aux input. For example a satellite radio dock hookup?
    jeeper  Nov 13, 2022
    1 answer
    A
The rear USB port is designed for connection to an iPhone for Apple CarPlay or connection of USB storage devices. It would not act as an input for a dock-and-play satellite radio.
    zachary  Nov 13, 2022 (Staff)
    Q
Does this have resistive or capacitive display? Also does the awful safety message on startup time out or do I have click OK every single time?
    kevin  Oct 31, 2022
    1 answer
    A
Greetings Kevin, and thank you for your questions. The screen is capacitive. I reached out to Boss which by the way has excellent support, the tech said models are different, but the BE62CP has a setting that can eliminate that boot up warning screen entirely.

    Q
WILL THIS UNIT CONNECT TO CARPLAY VIA BLUETOOTH ?
    curtis  Oct 31, 2022
    1 answer
    A
That Boss only uses wired Carplay.
    arielle h  Oct 31, 2022 (Staff)
    Q
Does waze work through Carplay on this unit? I understand waze doesn't have great compatibility on carplay on some stereos.
    kevin  Oct 11, 2022
    1 answer
    A
The Waze interface and operation is expected to be the same on this radio as it is on other Apple CarPlay compatible radios. Some radios did have a different way to interface Waze that was not through the Apple CarPlay interface which would have had different performance and integration from this radio's Waze abilities.

Navigation volume while on CarPlay is extremely low. Went through all settings and nothing has made a difference. How do I make it louder?
    dillon  Oct 08, 2022

    A
There are a couple of things to check that may help here Dillon. If you are having any issues with gear you bought from us, we always want you to call us first at our live Technical Support line to help troubleshoot. That's a big bonus when you get your gear from us! It sounds like the Boss radio could either have an issue with a steering wheel control unit potentially connected, or the unit is adjusting the volume as if you were on a hands free call. If you are using a steering wheel control module confirm that it is connected and set up properly. If that is all gravy, go into the Boss's settings and check the volume settings in the radio menu under audio and adjust those settings if they are lower than they should be. I hope this helps!

When installing in a '04 Corvette, is it necessary to replace the OEM bezel?
    craig  Jul 09, 2022

    A
The only way we found that a double din radio like this one can be installed into a 2004 Chevy Corvette is by replacing the dash bezel surrounding the radio location.

Sorry. I goofed on this one as this particular radio was installed on my girlfriends car and not mine. This does have back up camera hook up but isn't needed on her car. My Expedition has a different radio installed. Her radio is really nice. I like hers more than my Jensen CAR710

It sure does. I installed one on my Ford Expedition with this radio and with the big screen, it makes backing up so much easier. Very visible and clear. The back up camera I bought is a HD eRapta ERT01.

So my radio works normally with Bluetooth but as soon as I plug it in into the CarPlay the radio resets over and over and it doesn't connect it won't even show that it's on. I tried switching my phone settings and I even got a new cable for it and it still won't work. I have a 2006 ford fusion any help?

I plugged my iPhone in and it connected immediately, no issues at all . Did you try the manual reset yet with a paper clip under the flap where the usb is located ? My thoughts are it's an issue with unit and needs to be swapped out . My unit still works perfectly fine except for a bit of echo when making calls via Bluetooth.

Can you flip the camera? it is showing backwards left/right
    brady  Mar 16, 2022
    1 answer

No, the Boss BE62CP manual does not show any provision to flip the camera image. This is normally a function of the camera itself - typically you can flip the image by cutting or connecting a jumper wire on the camera harness.

My touchscreen radio "Tuner" is working. Can select the Tuner and change channels up and down with the touchscreen (without the iPhone connected). I just followed the wiring instructions to connect the unit to the car's wiring connectors. All the colors were exactly as in the instructions.

    wyatt  Jan 24, 2022
    1 answer

That means the wiring interface does not supply the extra wire connections needed to install a touchscreen radio. We have not found a second wiring harness for your vehicle that does supply those connections which means those wires must be spliced into stock wiring found elsewhere in the vehicle.

    raymond  Dec 03, 2021
    A
No, but the receiver does stream audio from your iphone and will host calls via bluetooth without being connected to a USB port supplied with the receiver. When you do connect it with the USB cable, the differences is that you get all Apple CarPlay features, i.e., iphone screen options appear on the receiver's screen, and you can control your iphone from the receiver touch screen, and by using Siri after pressing the receiver's microphone button. For this to work you must install the USB port and receiver microphone in the dash when you install the receiver.

I don't believe so, as far as I know, there is a wire for Apple car play on the back of the radio. I routed it out for easy hook up. That's how I do it.
