    CarPlay & Bluetooth Integration

CarPlay: Apple CarPlay is a smarter, safer way to use your USB-connected iPhone 5 or newer (running iOS 7.1+) with Lightning-connector in the car, while you stay focused on the road. Apple CarPlay takes the things you want to do with your iPhone while driving and integrates them into the Boss Elite BE62CP. Apple CarPlay offers an incredibly intuitive way to make calls, view maps, listen to music, and access messages from your compatible iPhone through the Boss Elite BE62CP in-dash receiver. With Apple CarPlay, you can control these functions from the BE62CP receiver's 6.2" touchscreen or activate Siri for minimized distraction.

    • Maps: Through Apple CarPlay, the power and simplicity of Apple Maps comes to your dashboard; complete with turn-by-turn direction, traffic conditions, and estimated travel time. You can enter a new destination or choose a favorite or recent destination using the head unit's touchscreen or by simply asking Siri. CarPlay can also predict where you most likely want to go using addresses from your email, text messages, contacts, and calendars. If you have iOS 12.0 or newer on your iPhone with the latest version of Google Maps or Waze, you can choose to navigate via Google Maps or Waze instead of CarPlay. Google Maps and Waze do not support Siri voice control, but will have their own proprietary voice control function which has to be accessed through a touchscreen icon on the receiver.
    • Phone: With Apple CarPlay, you can use the BE62CP's interactive touchscreen or ask Siri to make calls, return calls, and check voicemail. To dial a phone number, simply tap the "Phone" icon and Siri will ask you who you want to call. Using the touchscreen you can manually enter a phone number from the on-screen keypad, scroll through contacts, or select from recent and miss calls. In addition, you get access to your voicemails via touchscreen and Siri. When a call comes in, simply tap the "Phone" icon to answer. You'll carry on your side of the conversation through the included external microphone, while the other party is heard through your vehicle's speakers. You can emphasize or weaken the volume level the microphone. You can also select which car speaker outputs the caller audio; you can select All, Front-Left, Front-Right, or Front-Left/Right.
    • Text Messages: Apple CarPlay also lets you enjoy a better and safer way of text messaging with friends and family when you're on the road, through the Boss receiver and Siri. Through your voice commands, Siri can send, read, and reply to your text messages so that you never have to glance at your phone while behind the wheel. When a new message comes in a banner will come across the screen and Siri will read back the message for you. Text messages cannot be read or typed from the head unit's touchscreen to prevent driver distraction.
    • Music Library: CarPlay lets you access your music in your iPhone's music library, plus iTunes radio from the Boss Elite BE62CP. You can browse your music by Playlist, Artist, Song, etc.. just like you would on your iPhone from the BE62CP's touchscreen. You can also use Siri to find and play back your music. The BE62CP's touchscreen will display song/artist information, as well as album art in the background. Tap the Now Playing icon on the Boss receiver's capacitive touchscreen and see song, artist, album information with Album Art displaying in the background. From the Now Playing screen you also get basic playback function, like Play/Pause, Previous Next/Track, Fast Forward/Rewind, and Repeat/Shuffle.
    • Audio Apps & Podcasts: CarPlay also supports additional audio apps that you've downloaded to your iPhone for enjoying music, podcasts, sports, news, and audiobooks - including Pandora, Tidal, Spotify, iHeart Radio, TuneIn Radio, Slacker Radio, Vox, Stitcher, MLB.com At Bat, CBS Radio News, NPR One, OverCast, Audiobooks.com & Audible (subscriptions and fees may app). Control them from the head unit's touchscreen or Siri just like you would from your iPhone. Your iPhone's touchscreen remains unlocked during CarPlay connection, so you are able to access additional music apps and listen to them through the Boss receiver; however these apps offer no control or display information from the head unit's touchscreen.
    • Apple HomeKit Compatible: CarPlay now supports control of Apple HomeKit enabled devices (sold separately) through Siri. Using CarPlay in your vehicle, you can ask Siri to close or open your garage door, turn on or off home lighting, increase or decrease the temperature of your thermostat, as well as control select functions of other Apple HomeKit enabled devices and appliances. Click here for a list of compatible Apple HomeKit products.
    Notes:
    • Apple CarPlay is compatible with iPhone 5 or newer running iOS 7.1 or newer.
    • Make sure your plug in your iPhone 5 or newer to the BE62CP's rear-panel USB port labeled "Apple CarPlay" with an Apple certified Lightning-to-USB cable (not compatible with the front-panel USB port). Use a USB cable that is under 6' long and avoid using any extension cable.
    • Bluetooth hands-free phone and wireless music streaming cannot be used while Apple CarPlay is being used with a connected iPhone.
    • The BE62CP does not support Android Auto.

Bluetooth 4.2+EDR: The Boss Elite BE62CP is equipped with built-in Bluetooth 4.2+EDR allowing you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver; as well as stream music wirelessly from your smartphone to the head unit. With Secure Simple Pairing (SSP), you can easily pair a Bluetooth enabled phone to the Boss Elite BE62CP without having to enter pin codes or go through complicated settings. When an already paired Bluetooth device is in close proximity to the receiver, the auto connection function automatically pairs the two units.

    • Hands-Free Communication (External Mic): The Boss Elite BE62CP allows for wireless communication between the head unit and your Bluetooth enabled smartphone. Thanks to the latest Hands-Free Profile (HFP 1.6) with wideband speech capability, the BE62CP provides more natural sound quality and details during wireless calls. The receiver will display the caller's phone number and an audible ring tone will be heard through your vehicle's speaker during an incoming call. You can manually answer or end a call through the head unit's front-panel controls (or set the receiver to automatically answer the call). The BE62CP allows you to carry on the phone conversation using the included external microphone and your car audio speakers. Your music will mute automatically during a call. You can make a call using the Boss receiver's LCD touchscreen via its on-screen keypad, your phone's transferred phonebook, or a list of your most recent calls.
    • Wireless Audio Streaming: The Boss Elite BE62CP allows wireless play back of stored music and music apps from your Bluetooth enabled smartphone, tablet, or other device using a Bluetooth connection. You can control basic music playback functions, like Play/Pause & Previous/Next Track from the Boss head unit (advanced music browsing will still be done from your Bluetooth source device). The unit will also display song/artist information (no Album art). When an incoming call or outgoing call is in progress from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, audio streaming will be paused so you can take your call. Once the call is finished, your streaming music will resume.
Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the Boss receiver.

Cellular & Data Plan Requirements: Access to CarPlay apps will depend on the availability of a cellular and/or WiFi network for purposes of allowing your Apple iPhone to connect to the Internet. Your compatible Apple iPhone device will need an active Data Plan account with connection to the Internet via 3G, EDGE, LTE (4G), or WiFi.

Smartphone Charging: The Boss Elite BE62CP will also charge (5V/1.5A) your Apple CarPlay compatible iPhone while connected via USB with the vehicle's ignition switch set to the 'ACC' or 'On' position.

    USB/SD/AV Connectivity

You can search by folder or file, control playback functions (such as Play/Pause & Previous/Next Track), well as view song/artist information - including album art. USB portable devices that can be charged via USB will be charged when plugged into the receiver's USB port (5V/1.5A), and the vehicle's ignition switch is set to ACC or On.

Note: The front-panel USB port is not compatible with Apple iOS devices, Android devices, USB hubs, or card-readers.

    • Wide viewing angle = 170° (horizontal)
    • Minimum illumination = 0.5 lux (4 LEDs surround camera lens)

    Notes:

    • In some larger vehicles (such as SUVs and Vans), installation of the backup camera may require a longer composite video cable, RCA coupler, and power/ground wires - all sold separately.
    • The included camera is meant as a visual aid only; never solely rely on the camera. In addition to using the camera, always physically look to make sure everything is clear around your vehicle.

Front Camera Input: The BE62CP also features a second composite video camera input that can be used for connecting a front camera or dash cam (sold separately).

The button illumination is blue and not user adjustable.

Parking Brake Interlock: For safety reasons, you cannot view a video source on the built-in touchscreen monitor as long as the vehicle is in motion. Q
Does this unit require wiring to emergency brake? I don't see the wire in the harness.
    stephen j  Nov 18, 2023
    1 answer
    A
This Boss Audio BE62CP-C does require a parking brake connection, Stephen. The harness has a light green wire in pin 13 that would get connected to your vehicle's parking brake wire. In some cases, this wire is found in your installation interface making connection easier. Use our online Vehicle Guide in the link below to enter your vehicle's specific details, choose the Boss radio, and we will list all available interfaces and features. If you have any questions or need help placing your order do not hesitate to call us at 1-800-324-9695 and a live Advisor would be happy to help! https://www.crutchfield.com/m_266150/Car-Stereos.html

I have a 99 Chevy 1500 do I need to get a double din dash to have this one fit?
    jayson  Nov 14, 2023
    1 answer
    A
You will need to use a dash panel that fits with the new radio, Jayson. I show the Metra DP-3002GY in the first link below is a good fit and can be sourced in one of four colors to most closely match your original dash. Please use our online Vehicle Guide in the second link below to enter your truck's exact details, select the Boss BE62CP-C radio, and we will list all compatible install packages that match your vehicle. If you have any questions or need help selecting the right package for you or getting your order placed, do not hesitate to reach out at 1-800-324-9695 and a live Advisor would be happy to help. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_120DP302GY/Metra-DP-3002GY-Dash-Kit-Gray.html https://www.crutchfield.com/m_266150/Car-Stereos.html

Does the unit Dim with the rest of the cluster gauge?
    dylan  Nov 05, 2023

This radio features an illumination trigger wire, so this should be possible. However, we will want to check the necessary parts for your specific vehicle to be sure. Please reach out to our advisors via online chat or phone at 1-800-324-9695 for personalized assistance.

How do you turn off the feature that makes the volume turn down when the camera is on?
    andy  Nov 04, 2023
    1 answer
    A
I do not see any adjustments on that feature listed for the BOSS BE62CP-C, Andy. Most radios will automatically lower volume when the reverse cam is selected as a safety feature. I hope this helps!

    Q
Is the camera intended only for vehicles where the plate is centrally located? The rear license plate on my vehicle is offset to one side, and I would like to know if that will impact the view, etc.
    kristian  Oct 23, 2023
    1 answer
    A
That is a great question, Kristian. This included camera is designed to mount on a license plate frame, and if yours is not centrally located like on many Jeep vehicles that can affect the rear camera image. While this included Boss camera can be used, the image will be slightly offset when not centrally mounted. The Boss BE62CP is a fantastic radio and can be purchased without the included camera, allowing you to pair a surface-mountable cam like the CRUX CUL-09 in the link below that can be mounted in a more central location to provide a centered rear-view image in your specific application! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_249CUL09/Crux-CUL-09.html

Is the camera intended only for vehicles where the plate is centrally located? The rear license plate on my vehicle is offset to one side, and I would like to know if that will impact the view, etc.
    kristian  Oct 23, 2023
    1 answer
    A
The included bracket for the camera is only intended for use mounted to a license plate. If you mount the camera on the license plate for your vehicle, the camera will be off center, as will your view. This can make it more difficult to perceive the vehicle's location relative to surrounding objects. You would need to be aware that your view is off center at any time while backing up.

    Q
is this able to be installed into a 2011 nissan altima ?
    derick  Aug 25, 2023
    1 answer
    A
Greetings Derick, and thank you for your questions. Yes, and in some of the 2011 Altima's rather easy, with the factory Bose system, thats a bit tougher. If there is no Bose system, we have all the gear to install it realitivly easy yourself.

    Q
Does the USB port charge your phone?
    bernadette  Aug 21, 2023
    1 answer
    A
Greetings Bernadette, and thank you for your question. Yes the Boss BE62CP-C's USB port charges connected devices as well. The amperage is 1.5a so it will not charge a tablet well, but your connected phone it will.

    Q
What is needed to add siriusxm to this stereo?
    daniel  Aug 04, 2023
    1 answer
    A
This radio is not SiriusXM ready and does not have a connection for the SXV300 tuner. The only way to use SXM with this radio is using their phone app.
    zachary  Aug 04, 2023 (Staff)
    Q
Does the backup cam mount allow you to locate the camera anywhere? Or is it required to use the license plate bracket?
    andye  Jun 28, 2023
    1 answer
    A
Greetings Andrew, and thank you for your question. The Boss camera is integrated onto the frame, not easily removable. The Boss BE62CP is sold without the camera as well. Then you can add most any aftermarket camera to it.

    Q
Will I need an extension for the backup camera in my ford expedition? And will i also need a separate parking brake bypass?
    devlin  Apr 11, 2023
    1 answer
    A
Hi Devlin, thank you for your question. The Boss BE62CP-C package comes with about 18 feet of video cable, it's likely you'll need a little bit of an extension to get from the back of your Expedition to the back of the head unit. A connection to the parking brake is required. I recommend giving one of our Advisors a call at 1.800.324.9695 or by online chat so they can help get you squared away with what you'll need for your installation.

What wire do you need to connect to the sub slot on the back?
    john  Dec 20, 2022

    A
Greetings John, and thank you for your question. The subwoofer outputs on the back of the Boss BE62CP-C are RCA jacks. You would use a pair of RCA cables to run from the radio to your amplifier.

No, the Boss BE62CP-C is not iDatalink compatible. Only select receivers from Alpine, JVC, Kenwood, Pioneer, and Sony have a serial port and are iDatalink compatible.

Can I stream whatever music app I am using, i.e., Pandora or spotify, through the bluetooth?
    l  Oct 13, 2022
    1 answer
    A
Thats right! Spotify control is no longer supported through Bluetooth, so that means you cannot use the buttons on the radio specifically to skip songs with Spotify, you'll need to use your phone or connect with Carplay. Any audio source from any app can stream to the radio wirelessly with Bluetooth!

Does the back up camera come on automatically when you put the vehicle in reverse or is it manually turned on?
    jon  Sep 30, 2022
    1 answer

It is a manual connection however the camera does come with a wire that will allow you to make a separate connection (usually at the backup light) so that the camera will automatically come on when you go into reverse.

Can I retain my factory Bluetooth if I get the crutchfield harness?
    andrew  Sep 03, 2022
    1 answer
    A
Greetings Andy, and thank you for your question. In some cases certain vehicles factory Bluetooth can be retained. Depends on the vehicle, and the wire adapter. Devices like your phone however can only be paired to one at a time, so if you pair your phone to the factory Bluetooth system, you will not be able to answer the phone or stream Bluetooth audio thru the stereo. Pair your device to the stereo, and your factory Bluetooth microphone will not work. I would have to look at the vehicle, and the wire adapter for a 100% positive answer.

Do you have to plug phone in to use CarPlay or can it connect via Bluetooth?
    sienna  Jul 06, 2022

You will need to plug in via the USB cable for Carplay mirroring, Sienna. This unit will connect wirelessly through Bluetooth for music streaming and hands free calling, and it's a killer deal with the included backup camera kit. This Boss BE950WCPA that I've put in the link below is a little more expensive but it does add the wireless Carplay, check it out! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_104BE950WP/Boss-BE950WCPA.html?tp=72357

Could this stereo handle 2 12 inch subs?
    nathan  Jul 01, 2022
    1 answer
    A
Greetings Nathan, and thank you for your question. Any stereo alone will not be able to power two subwoofers. The subwoofer output on the Boss stereo is a pre-amp. What that means is its just a signal, that would need to get to another more powerful amplifier, and from that amplifier then to your subs.

Does this come with a wiring harness?
    jude  Jun 25, 2022
    1 answer
    A
Greetings Jude, and thank you for your question. Yes the Boss BE62CP-C comes with a harness, just not specific to any one vehicle. It can be adapted to most with another wire harness thats more vehicle specific. Then you connect the Boss harness to the vehicle specific harness, then its able to plug into a factory radio wire plug.

Installed.. Worked great with the kit from Crutchfield.WAY better than the 17 yo crappy GM Bose HU.. Only issue now is, I can't get any media to play from the FRONT USB port.. formatted as fat32 as specified.. used video files as MKV and WMV.. just to see what it looked like.. always unsupported files. I use a Mac and saved files as such.. is there a trick anyone knows? Also, Can the phone be mirrored like airplay? curious, can't find anything.. but for the price I'm not complaining.. much.

Our technical support can help troubleshoot the file playback issue. Their toll free phone number is found on the order invoice! As for the mirroring, this receiver is not built for mirroring a device, but it does have an A/V input that can take in AV signals. It is possible to use the Apple lightning to HDMI adapter www.crutchfield.com/p_472LT2HDMI/item.html, HDMI cable www.crutchfield.com/p_105KSU60/item.html, and an HDMI to composite video/RCA audio adapter www.crutchfield.com/p_541ISHD01/item.html to mirror an iPhone on this receiver.

Make sure your plug in your iPhone 5 or newer to the BE62CP's rear-panel USB port labeled "Apple CarPlay" with an Apple certified Lightning-to-USB cable (not compatible with the front-panel USB port). Use a USB cable that is under 6' long and avoid using any extension cable.

    Q
Can the usb be used to play music from iPhone in lieu of Bluetooth?
    james  Mar 05, 2022
    6 answers
    A
So while these answers are technically correct, I feel I should clarify my meaning further in case someone else has this question. I have purchased this head unit so am speaking from experience. The USB on the FRONT of the head unit does NOT connect to iPhone. It will NOT allow Apple CarPlay nor will it transmit music from iPhone. The unit DOES have a USB extension coming from the back, as one person mentioned in their answer. This is the ONLY USB connection for iPhone/CarPlay, so you must consider how you will run this when installing the head unit if you want this functionality. If you're wanting a tight/clean fit, there is a high chance that you may have to modify some of your trim to allow the USB to be exposed.
    james  Mar 16, 2022

Yes. Connect iPhone's lighting cable and use Apple Play to mirror the phone's screen
    jaime  Mar 05, 2022
