Supreme smartphone integration

Using this BOSS Audio receiver's USB connection, your smartphone links right up and you're ready to roll with all the voice-control wonderfulness that Android Auto and Apple CarPlay bring to driving. (Find out more at www.android.com/auto and www.apple.com/ios/carplay.)

Bluetooth means wireless

Bluetooth enables wireless streaming for stored music, Internet radio stations, podcasts, and audiobooks. This receiver also lets you take and make calls while keeping your hands on the wheel — an awesome safety feature when you're making your daily commute.

System-building tools

This receiver makes a supreme car command center, with a 6.75" touchscreen display that delivers system control, displays media info, and serves as a monitor for the included backup camera. The BV800ACP's two rear USB ports lets you connect a smartphone and access your digital music library loaded onto a flash drive. You can also shape the sound of your music with this receiver's 10-band equalizer. Plus, you'll get six 4-volt preamp outputs for amplifiers powering your speakers and subs.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

USB note: This receiver doesn't include a USB extension cable for the rear USB port. We recommend adding the PAC USBDMA6 extension cable or another cable that's compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to your order.

You'll need a wired connection to your parking brake to access settings and other features on this receiver. Your parking brake must be connected and set in order to view video on its screen.

    Android Auto & Apple CarPlay

Android Auto: The Boss BV800ACP receiver supports the Android Auto app for Android smartphones running OS Lollipop (5.0 or newer). Your compatible Android smartphone must be connected to the Boss receiver's USB port via the the USB cable that came with your smartphone (a USB extension cable may be required and sold separately), plus be paired via Bluetooth (your vehicle's parking brake needs to be engaged to initially setup Android Auto). Android Auto extends the Android platform into your car in a way that's purpose-built for driving and automatically brings you useful information and organizes it into a simple on-screen user interface. It's designed to minimize distraction so you can stay focused on the road ahead. Features of Android Auto include -

    • Google Assistant: The Boss receiver enhances your Android Auto experience even more by incorporating Google Assistant using the head unit's external microphone and your car speakers for voice command and text-to-speech, which makes using Android Auto and all of its integrated applications fast, easy, and safe. You will need to press the "mic" button or say "OK Google" to activate the Google Assistant. Use the Google Assistant to make a call, send a message, reply to a message, get driving directions, or listen to music.
    • Google & Waze Maps: Use Google Maps to get where you're going with on-screen maps, voice-guided navigation, live traffic information, lane guidance, and more. Select your destination by using the head unit's touchscreen or just say where you want to go through the unit's external mic and Google Speech Technology. You can even listen to music from your Android Auto device or other connected source device while using Google Maps. If you prefer, you can switch over to a simpler version of the community-based Waze navigation app (version 4.27 or higher).
    • Phone & SMS: With Android Auto you get access to your contacts and messages through the Boss receiver while keeping your eyes on the road. Use the unit's external mic and Google Speech Technology to make a phone call, or have your text-messages read aloud to you while you concentrate on the road ahead; you can even reply to texts via voice command.
    • Music: Access your Android smartphone's music library through the Boss receiver via YouTube Music. You'll be able to browse music like you do on your smartphone with song/artist information display and album art. Use the receiver's touchscreen to select songs or just say what song you want to listen to through the head unit's external mic and Google Speech Technology. You also get access to online music and radio stations from Amazon Music, Tidal, Pandora, Spotify, iHeart Radio, Slacker Radio, & Tune-In. Music apps include song and station browsing, plus song/artist information and album art or station logo. Click here for a list of all compatible app for Android Auto.

    Notes:

    • Make sure you plug in your Android smartphone to the BV800ACP's rear-panel USB port labeled "Apple CarPlay/Android Auto" with a USB-IF certified cable (not compatible with the USB port labeled "USB/Charging"). Use a USB cable that is under 6' long and avoid using any extension cable.
    • The initial setup for Android Auto requires that your vehicle be stopped and the parking brake is engaged. You will need to connect the parking brake wire of the receiver's harness to your vehicle's parking brake circuit for the head unit to recognize that the vehicle's parking brake is engaged.
    • Bluetooth hands-free phone and wireless music streaming cannot be used while Android Auto is being used with a connected Android smartphone. You cannot have an Android Auto smartphone and Apple CarPlay iPhone plugged in at the same time.
    • Click here to learn more About Android Auto and to see what phones are compatible.

Apple CarPlay: Apple CarPlay is a smarter, safer way to use your USB-connected iPhone 5 or newer (running iOS 7.1+) with Lightning-connector in the car, while you stay focused on the road. Apple CarPlay takes the things you want to do with your iPhone while driving and integrates them into the Boss BV800ACP. Apple CarPlay offers an incredibly intuitive way to make calls, view maps, listen to music, and access messages from your compatible iPhone through the Boss BV800ACP in-dash receiver. With Apple CarPlay, you can control these functions from the BV800ACP receiver's 6.75" touchscreen or activate Siri for minimized distraction.

    • Maps: Through Apple CarPlay, the power and simplicity of Apple Maps comes to your dashboard; complete with turn-by-turn direction, traffic conditions, and estimated travel time. You can enter a new destination or choose a favorite or recent destination using the head unit's touchscreen or by simply asking Siri. CarPlay can also predict where you most likely want to go using addresses from your email, text messages, contacts, and calendars. If you have iOS 12.0 or newer on your iPhone with the latest version of Google Maps or Waze, you can choose to navigate via Google Maps or Waze instead of CarPlay. Google Maps and Waze do not support Siri voice control, but will have their own proprietary voice control function which has to be accessed through a touchscreen icon on the receiver.
    • Phone: With Apple CarPlay, you can use the BV800ACP's interactive touchscreen or ask Siri to make calls, return calls, and check voicemail. To dial a phone number, simply tap the "Phone" icon and Siri will ask you who you want to call. Using the touchscreen you can manually enter a phone number from the on-screen keypad, scroll through contacts, or select from recent and miss calls. In addition, you get access to your voicemails via touchscreen and Siri. When a call comes in, simply tap the "Phone" icon to answer. You'll carry on your side of the conversation through the included external microphone, while the other party is heard through your vehicle's speakers. You can emphasize or weaken the volume level the microphone. You can also select which car speaker outputs the caller audio; you can select All, Front-Left, Front-Right, or Front-Left/Right.
    • Text Messages: Apple CarPlay also lets you enjoy a better and safer way of text messaging with friends and family when you're on the road, through the Boss receiver and Siri. Through your voice commands, Siri can send, read, and reply to your text messages so that you never have to glance at your phone while behind the wheel. When a new message comes in a banner will come across the screen and Siri will read back the message for you. Text messages cannot be read or typed from the head unit's touchscreen to prevent driver distraction.
    • Music Library: CarPlay lets you access your music in your iPhone's music library, plus plus Apple Music from the Boss BV800ACP. You can browse your music by Playlist, Artist, Song, etc.. just like you would on your iPhone from the BV800ACP's touchscreen. You can also use Siri to find and play back your music. The BV800ACP's touchscreen will display song/artist information, as well as album art in the background. Tap the Now Playing icon on the Boss receiver's capacitive touchscreen and see song, artist, album information with Album Art displaying in the background. From the Now Playing screen you also get basic playback function, like Play/Pause, Previous Next/Track, Fast Forward/Rewind, and Repeat/Shuffle.
    • Audio Apps & Podcasts: CarPlay also supports additional audio apps that you've downloaded to your iPhone for enjoying music, podcasts, sports, news, and audiobooks - including Pandora, Tidal, Spotify, iHeart Radio, TuneIn Radio, Slacker Radio, Vox, Stitcher, MLB.com At Bat, CBS Radio News, NPR One, OverCast, Audiobooks.com & Audible (subscriptions and fees may app). Control them from the head unit's touchscreen or Siri just like you would from your iPhone. Your iPhone's touchscreen remains unlocked during CarPlay connection, so you are able to access additional music apps and listen to them through the Boss receiver; however these apps offer no control or display information from the head unit's touchscreen.
    • Apple HomeKit Compatible: CarPlay now supports control of Apple HomeKit enabled devices (sold separately) through Siri. Using CarPlay in your vehicle, you can ask Siri to close or open your garage door, turn on or off home lighting, increase or decrease the temperature of your thermostat, as well as control select functions of other Apple HomeKit enabled devices and appliances. Click here for a list of compatible Apple HomeKit products.
    Notes:
    • Apple CarPlay is compatible with iPhone 5 or newer running iOS 7.1 or newer.
    • Make sure your plug in your iPhone 5 or newer to the BV800ACP's rear-panel USB port labeled "Apple CarPlay/Android Auto" with an Apple certified Lightning-to-USB cable (not compatible with the USB port labeled "USB/Charging"). Use a USB cable that is under 6' long and avoid using any extension cable.
    • Bluetooth hands-free phone and wireless music streaming cannot be used while Apple CarPlay is being used with a connected iPhone.
    • You cannot have an Android Auto smartphone and Apple CarPlay iPhone plugged in at the same time.
Cellular & Data Plan Requirements: Access to CarPlay and Android Auto apps will depend on the availability of a cellular and/or WiFi network for purposes of allowing your iPhone or Android smartphone to connect to the Internet. Your compatible Apple or Android device will need an active Data Plan account with connection to the Internet via 3G, EDGE, LTE (4G), or WiFi.

Smartphone Charging: The Boss BV800ACP will also charge (5V/1.5A) your Android Auto compatible Android smartphone or Apple CarPlay compatible iPhone while connected via USB with the vehicle's ignition switch set to the 'ACC' or 'On' position.

    Built-in Bluetooth

Bluetooth 4.2+EDR: The Boss BV800ACP is equipped with built-in Bluetooth 4.2+EDR allowing you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver; as well as stream music wirelessly from your smartphone to the head unit. • Audio Streaming: A2DP 1.2 (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile), AVRCP 1.5 (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile).
Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the Boss receiver.

Secure Simple Pairing: With Secure Simple Pairing (SSP), you can easily pair a Bluetooth enabled phone to the Boss BV800ACP without having to enter pin codes or go through complicated settings. When an already paired Bluetooth device is in close proximity to the receiver, the auto connection function automatically pairs the two units.

Thanks to the latest Hands-Free Profile (HFP 1.6) with wideband speech capability, the BV800ACP provides more natural sound quality and details during wireless calls. The receiver will display the caller's phone number and an audible ring tone will be heard through your vehicle's speaker during an incoming call. You can manually answer or end a call through the head unit's front-panel controls (or set the receiver to automatically answer the call). The BV800ACP allows you to carry on the phone conversation using the included external microphone and your car audio speakers. Your music will mute automatically during a call. You can make a call using the Boss receiver's LCD touchscreen via its on-screen keypad, your phone's transferred phonebook, or a list of your most recent calls.

Wireless Audio Streaming: The Boss BV800ACP allows wireless play back of stored music and music apps from your Bluetooth enabled smartphone, tablet, or other device using a Bluetooth connection. You can control basic music playback functions, like Play/Pause & Previous/Next Track from the Boss head unit (advanced music browsing will still be done from your Bluetooth source device). The unit will also display song/artist information (no Album art).

Note: When an incoming call or outgoing call is in progress from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, audio streaming will be paused so you can take your call. Once the call is finished, your streaming music will resume.
    USB/AV/Camera Integration

USB MSC Playback: The BV800ACP is equipped with a rear-panel USB (type-A) port attached to the rear-chassis via a hardwired 39" pigtail (labeled "USB/Charging"). The unit supports playback of a variety of music, video, and photo files loaded onto a compatible USB msc device. You can search by folder or file, control playback functions (such as Play/Pause & Previous/Next Track), well as view song/artist information - including album art. Would I be able to use this in my 2016 wrangler with an alpine power pack amplifier for the door speakers?
    coles  Apr 26, 2023
    1 answer
    A
This Boss BV850ACP package fits in the dash of your 2016 Wrangler, Cole. If you do not have the factory Alpine amplifier you can use the Alpine Power Pack in conjunction with the Boss radio for peak performance from your aftermarket speakers! You will need to mount the Alpine Power Pack and use a small wiring kit, the KTP-445U universal model in the first link below is a great call. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_500KTP445U/Alpine-KTP-445U-Power-Pack.html

    Q
DOES THIS PLAY SATILITE RADIO ?
    tom  Feb 22, 2023
    1 answer
    A
Great question, Tom. The Boss BV850ACP does not have the inputs required for the Siruis Xm tuner used for "built-in" satellite radio. You can still use the XM app with Bluetooth, Carplay, or Android Auto with the sweet Boss BV850, so if you go Boss you can still enjoy your XM through the app and your smartphone.

    Q
Can I use my original rear camera with this radio or does it have to be the one it comes with?
    ninam  Jan 20, 2023
    1 answer
    A
You may be able to use your original backup camera Nina. We can help confirm if it is retained with your wiring interface needed to install the Boss with your specific vehicle. Use our handy online Vehicle Guide to enter your ride's specific year, make, model, and any premium trim. You can then select the Boss, see if it fits, and also see what original features are capable of being retained. If for some reason you cannot keep your original camera, Boss has you covered! If you have any issues just give us a call at 1-800-324-9695 and a live Advisor can help. https://www.crutchfield.com/m_266150/Car-Stereos.html

    Q
Shortly after I installed this head unit into my 2007 hummer H3 My front left tweeter and door speaker would have a buzzing/whining noise that would get more intense whenever I would accelerate. Any idea how to fix this?
    grant  Jan 15, 2023
    1 answer
    A
This sounds like it could be wiring/ground related. For any issues like this it is a good idea to pull the radio out and check the wiring/Posi-connectors if used to make sure the ground connection in particular is solid. We can also help troubleshoot the settings on your interface too, so if you do need a hand call our Technical Support line at 1-888-292-2575 and we can always help with any orders purchased from us. You get that Technical Support for life!

Boss BV850ACP android auto not working. The USB port marked Android Auto charges the phone, but nothing more. I've been on park with e-brake on and nothing different. Do the LED lights on the backup camera stay on anytime there is power to the camera?? I'd like to connect the power to the ignition so I can view the camera manually, but I would prefer the LED lights were not on all the time.
    d  Jun 16, 2021
    1 answer
    A
The LED lights will be on when the camera is receiving power so its best to use a switched power source to run it to keep it from draining the battery. If you only want the lights on when actually using the camera, then its power wires need to be connected to wiring that only gets power when in reverse. If you purchased your gear from us, I recommend contacting our technical support using their toll free number from the order invoice. They can help locate the best wires to use for your goals.

Assuming it is similar to android in that it needs a physical connection. When installing there are 2 USB ports on the back side. You need cables to run from those to somewhere you can access them. Preferably near a spot you can park your phone as it is connected. One of those USB will be for charging/communication, the other for charging only.

You might get it to work, but this unit (and most) try to prevent playing video on the display if not in reverse. There are ways around that, not sure that I would do it though.
    robert  Jun 17, 2021
    A
Technically speaking yes, but you would be limited to analog/composite/NTSC video. So your DVD player would need a composite video output. All controls of the DVD player would be external from this head unit (separate remote control).

I want to buy this for my 2005 Honda Pilot will the back up camera wire fit and if not what extra stuff will I need to buy for it to work?
    mario  May 02, 2021
    1 answer
    A
The length of wire should be good, any excess can be looped and tied, then tucked out of the way. Other than that, the area behind the stereo where the cables plug in would need to be looked at. It fits more shallow than my factory stereo, so there was no worry about a tight fit where it plugs in.

You will need to get an extension cable for the backup camera in order to have enough cable length for the hatchback. The standard cable length for the backup camera is only long enough for mounting in the vehicle truck.

What should the red wire on the rear camera RCA cable be wired to on each end?
    jonathan  May 01, 2021

It is meant for power, power is applied at one end in reverse, the other end is power for the camera. Ground is done with the shield wire on the video line.

What additional wiring will I need to connect to my 2000 F350 Super Duty? Thanks!
    barb  May 01, 2021

Probably a wiring harness adapter for your F-150, which you can get here at Crutchfield. I run an amp with this unit, so I had to wire the head unit out signal to the amp, but used the amp output wires to connect back to the existing speaker wiring in my truck that was all run up into the dash area when the truck was built.

Can you listen to music via one USB input at the same time as using Apple CarPlay on the other?
    matt  Jan 11, 2021
    1 answer
    A
I cannot find a specific mention of this ability in the manual but do know that other receivers with 2 USB ports do confirm that both can be used. One for Apple CarPlay and the other for a USB memory device like a thumb drive so GPS can be used from CarPlay while playing music from a thumb drive. We have advisors that you can reach by calling 1-800-324-9695 who can help find a receiver that definitely allows their USB ports to be used this way.

Be sure to go through settings and make sure that each speaker is operating properly. After that go in and turn up the treble. That will help make the speakers louder, but I have never had that issue and I've used this radio and or bought this radio probably seven different times now because I install it in a lot of cars.

This cannot be installed without modifying the dash panel (as well as some sub-dash metal too) but those cuts should not show after the radio is installed because the recommended mounting kit comes with a cover. Nothing, if you buy it from Crutchfield they send you the harness kit and mounting kit. You may need more length on wire possibly for the camera.
    austin  Jul 20, 2020
    A
Vehicle wiring harness, steering wheel control harness (possibly), vehicle trim kit (in many cases), you may also require hookup wire for the parking brake connection and the backup camera power feed. Perhaps some wire taps to make hookup of backup light feed, 12vdc switched and p brake connection easier. All USB inputs are on the rear of this head unit. I got some M / F USB extensions so I could locate the jacks near my center console. Crutchfield instructions didn't go over opening my center console for p brake connection or panel removal to wire the backup camera. I've done this before so no trouble for me....
    kyle  Jul 07, 2020

Depending on the vehicle you may need an extension cable for the backup camera. My installation in my F150 required an extra length of wire for the camera. Everything else was included with radio.

Hi Audrey, short answer is no as some are wireless. This head unit is designed to use the rca style cabling to connect the camera to the display. If your current vehicle has a backup camera factory installed, there is most likely an adapter to make it compatible with this head unit but further research is required.
    cory  Jun 30, 2020
