Its meh, not great
Stric from Sugar Hill, GA on 7/4/2025
2011 Nissan Frontier SV
First, Crutchfield technical support is amazing. I had a defective unit AND the swap out process was seamless. This is a product review only. I would not recommend this product unless you only want the ability to use hands free and Bluetooth streaming. If you have a Nissan Frontier (around the 2008-2013 years) where the radio slightly faces up, I 100% don't recommend this. The sun makes it unreadable unless you crank the gamma to maximum to see it. The picture showing maps is misleading (it actually got me). I figured, oh wow I can see maps while driving. No. You can screen cast through a USB connection only. This is clunky AND you must have the parking brake engaged to use it...how is your maps program useful if you have to have the parking brake engaged?!?! This frustrates me, and I admit I should have research more...but showing the maps to me is a misleading tactic. When casting over USB, your audio plays BUT its not streaming audio over Bluetooth. Its through USB. The EQ settings I have for streaming over Bluetooth no longer apply and I have yet to see where I could make changes. This is irritating. Does the unit do what it advertise? Yes. Does it do it well? No. I have not tested the cameras, that's a future weekend project. If you only want to stream Bluetooth and have hands free calls, then this is a great unit for you. I'm assuming the camera features work well, but have not tried them.
Pros: Streams Bluetooth
Cons: Misleading advertising If radio in direct sun, difficult to see screen clearly

"Nice Receiver, Great Value!"
Anthony from Fairfield, CA on 7/1/2025
2008 Toyota Yaris
I bought this as a replacement radio for my daughters first car. The price was right and it plays CD's / DVD's and has Bluetooth, which my daughter wanted. I like it's simple layout. It is a bit slow booting up, but I don't think it's that bad at all. For the price you can't beat it. Just through her stock speakers it sounds pretty good. I'm probably going to buy a couple more for two other cars I have.
Pros: Plays CD's and DVD's.
Cons: None so far

It's definitely a basic touchscreen head unit. That being said it is a good upgrade for my 14 year old work truck. It does take a little long to boot up and the touchscreen is slow, but everything is working as advertised. Overall I'm happy and don't regret buying it.

I purchased this radio to replace my OEM radio on my 2002 Toyota Tundra. It fit perfectly and sounds very good. What a huge upgrade from my old one. The installation went smoothly using the instructions and ready made harness from Cruthfield. I had to call tech support for a question and they were super helpful! I wouldn't hesitate to buy this if you're looking for an inexpensive unit that has a lot of features.

Better than expected!
Richard from LAKELAND, FL on 6/22/2025
2013 Chrysler 200
5 stars for the Boss BV9695B. Much better than expected for a $80 unit. Sounds great, excellent controls & features. Was concerned about reviews about the touch screen but it seems to work good. 3 stars for Crutchfield not offering a standard wire harness when replacing the stock base radio in my 2013 Chrysler 200 convertible. No uconnect, nav, or factory amp, but I was told that an aftermarket radio will not work without installing the Crux SOOCR-26 Wiring Interface and a regular wire harness is not available. I bought a Scosche kit (dash kit, antenna adaptor, acc wire, and wire harness) for $18 from another retailer and it works perfectly. Crutchfield says that the sub dash needs some trimming, which is very minimal and easy. On this vehicle the bezel also needs to be trimmed to make this unit fit.

Good unit, mediocre instalation assistance
Dan from North Potomac, MD on 5/28/2025
Yes Boss unit is a good value. If you intend to install it yourself be very aware as to which additional installation part you might need, the advisors are not always up to snuff. If you have problems, like I had, be ready to call the Boss customer service since Crutchfield helpers don't always succeed in helping you.
Pros: You can always get someone on the phone.
Cons: I was sold a steering control switch that was not needed. Instalation assistance came short of being of any help. I needed to call the manufacturer which took 2 minutes to solve the problem.

Works great in our Honda Stepwgn
Brian from Northville, MI on 5/16/2025
1998 Honda CRV
I reviewed the awesome Crutchfield ReadyHarness Service adapter already, so this is for the BOSS head unit. Just a quick note, this went into a Double-Din slot in a JDM Honda Stepwgn minivan, and the same-year (1998) USDM Honda CR-V is the radio harness equivalent. Yes, you have to pull MUCH of the Stepwgn dash out to install a new unit...but that's no big surprise and not all that hard anyway. The head unit dash adapter kit that Crutchfield included was very useful, as I had to customize some of the pieces by snipping off some un-needed tabs with my trusty tin snips for them to fit just right.

Good FM but weak AM tuner
Perwaiz from Euless, TX on 5/16/2025
This is the first time I attempted to install a head unit and backup camera in my Nissan Frontier. The folks in the technical support department are superb. I received all the assistance that i needed from CB. Thanks for your help, CB! I purchased this head unit because it has all the features I was looking for. FM tuner, CD& DVD players function well. But the AM tuner is a disappointment. The sensitivity level is low. It tunes into radio stations within a 15 - 16 mile radius very well. But if you try to tune in to a station that is broadcasting from 19 to 21 miles away, the reception is terrible. The sound level keeps bouncing up and down constantly. I found this to be unacceptable. To hear this stations I would have to use the browser on my cell phone and route it to the head unit using USB or blue tooth connection. If you need to tune into distant AM stations that broadcast news/talk radio etc., I do not recommend this head unit. I am sure BOSS Audio can do a better job designing the AM tuner. Since the FM tuner, CD/DVD player function well, I decided to give this item a 3 star rating.
Pros: Good FM tuner, CD/DVD player
Cons: Weak AM tuner

This in dash stereo worked good at first then about a week later I was listening to the FM radio and went to adjust the volume and the volume knob would just change the radio stations and I lost all my presets. Called Boss warranty and they had me do a reset on the system. It worked fine for a few days then after receiving a phone call over the Bluetooth I hung up the phone and lost everything again. Reset the system again and after a few days lost everything again. Called Boss warranty and they will send a replacement stereo, it will be a different model since they don't have any of the model I have and don't know when they will have more. I hope the new model works much better. I wasn't looking for anything expensive just something that works!
Pros: Inexpensive and has the few features I needed
Cons: Didn't work very long

Like other reviews, it takes a while to turn on each time - gets annoying pretty quick. Have to press "agree" after a warning every time and that's after the long power up - it gets annoying. Does have a good EQ and sounds pretty good for such an affordable head unit. Touch screen is working fine for me. It is difficult to see on sunny days, washes out pretty bad.
Pros: Easy to install Affordable
Cons: Annoying "agree" screen every power up and slow to power on.

Budget friendly headunit. Crutchfield wire service and accessories package helped make install easy on 2003 santa fe. The controls worked ok. Hard to recognize your touch even after recalibrating. Some settings would reset such as color of the physical buttons after each startup of car. When installing backup camera I only wired the reverse trigger wire and the rear camera input power to the camera. I tested multiple cameras from boss and would still have the same issue. At first it takes 3-4 seconds for it to see your reverse signal then it would say no rear camera detected, followed by wavy static lines of multi colors see attached photos. Possibly the processor cannot handle the video signal properly or a grounding issue somewhere in its manufacturing. I returned my order right away for a full refund and will continue researching for something similar.
Pros: Budget friendly, Has CD player, microsd, usb port, aux
Cons: Rear view camera difficult to install. Settings might reset. Sound is low powered

I installed this radio in my 2012 Ford F-150 Lariat when the factory radio died. This radio works well for AM/FM, CD's, and Bluetooth streaming. I tried the screen mirroring app but ended up uninstalling it. It's literally foreign and has foreign writing in the app. I don't like the idea of having that running on my phone. But the radio works great otherwise. It's not fancy but will get you a good sounding and good working replacement radio.

Great product for what I wanted. Had 20 year old stereo that worked nice but wanted a screen for backup camera and not have a separate dashboard screen. I didn't want a stereo that was worth more than the car and this was the most affordable radio I could find with a CD player so took the gamble and it works great so far. Sound is ok.
Pros: Price, fits nice, additional power outputs, camera input
Cons: Probably not the best but my reference is a 19 year old radio so it's better than what I had. The volume knob is very close to the dash trim which gets in the way.

Jonathan from Hillsborough, NH on 2/20/2025

Radio came quickly, and works well. I did not pay extra for them to connect the wires, and that was fine; I have minimal solder experience, took me an hour or two to hook up all the wires. Used all my heat shrink in that size... It was a little pricey, but it has a lot of features. The only think I don't like is Autolink; there is no purpose whatsoever to mirroring my phone screen on the grainy radio one. Autolink does not appear to have any features other than that; I was expecting a full-screen navigation screen. Everything else has been great so far.
Pros: Many audio inputs, easy install process, appearance
Cons: A little pricey, Autolink is not useful, instructions could have been clearer

Awesome unit it's kinda slow on start up. The only issue I had was that the instruction wasn't so clear had to connect a few extra things to make my steering wheel controls and fm radio work. I'm new at this. Also the face plate that was supposed to be a perfect fit for my Camry needs to be trimmed but that's an accessory from Crutchfield and the harness that gave me issue is from Crux. So the radios only issue is when you start your car it's kinda slow to turn on.
