Features
CEA-2006 Compliant: The specifications given by JVC for the built-in amplifier comply with the CEA-2006 mobile amplifier power testing and measurement standards from the CEA (Consumer Electronics Association). All manufacturers who comply with the standard can display the CEA-2006 logo on their product.
Bongiovi Acoustics: The included Bongiovi Acoustics DPS (Digital Power Station) disc optimizes the KD-S100's output for playback in an automotive environment. DPS is a patented digital processing method that extends the frequency response of the speakers and maximizes the frequency-specific power distribution of the head-unit's amplifier. While it's typically beneficial to replace the speakers and add amplifiers, DPS offers the greatest improvement in sound quality when used with the factory speakers (partly because they have the most room for improvement). The powerful processor also scans, recognizes, and reproduces multiple types of music sources (CD's, MP3 files, vinyl transfers, AM radio, FM radio, satellite radio, WMA files) with full studio quality sound and without volume changes between signal sources. The bass response is noticeably improved by Virtual Subwoofer technology; DPS digitally creates an array of sound that produces a result as if a subwoofer were installed in the vehicle.
MP3/WMA Playback: The KD-S100 can play MP3 and WMA files from CD-R and CD-RW discs, SD memory cards, and USB flash drives.
SD Card: Behind the motorized fold down face is an SD card slot. MP3 and WMA files can be played from an SD card with these requirements:
- Format: Fat 12 or FAT 16
- Card Size: 8 MB to 512 MB
- Bit Rates:
- MP3: 8-320 kbps
- WMA: 8-192 kbps
- Sampling Frequencies:
- MP3: 16 kHz, 22.05 kHz, 24 kHz, 33 kHz, 44.1 kHz, 48 kHz
- WMA: 32 kHz, 44.1 kHz, 48 kHz
USB: The KD-S100 has a front panel USB (type A) port. MP3 and WMA files can be played from a USB flash drive with these requirements:
- Format: Fat 12, FAT 16, or FAT 32
- Drive Capacity: less than 4 GB (1 partition type)
- Max Current: 500 mA
- Bit Rates:
- MP3: 32-320 kbps
- WMA: 5-192 kbps
- Sampling Frequencies: 8 kHz-48 kHz
Disc Protection: If an ejected disc is not removed within 15 seconds, the disc is automatically inserted again into the loading slot to protect it.
Resume: If you change the source from CD, SD card, or USB drive, playback also stops (without ejecting). When you return to that source, playback starts from the point where it stopped previously.
AM/FM Tuner With Title Assignment: The KD-S100 features a built-in AM/FM tuner with three FM bands and one AM band. Each AM/FM band can hold up to six station presets. You can store these presets manually or have the radio store them automatically. You can also assign names (up to 16 characters) for 30 AM/FM station frequencies. If an FM stereo broadcast is hard to receive, you can manually switch the tuner to Mono operation. You can also switch the tuner's IF filter to Wide or Auto to increase/decrease the sensitivity.
Title Assignment: In addition to naming radio frequencies, names can be assigned to 30 CDs (up to 32 characters) and each external component (up to 16 characters).
Amplifier Gain Control: When you are using the KD-S100 with factory speakers (or those rated to less than 50 watts peak), the Amplifier Gain Control can limit the amount of power being sent to those speakers. When the Amp Gain Control is set to Low PWR, the volume control ranges from 0 (minimum) to 30 (maximum). When using speakers rated higher than 50 watts peak, you can set the Amp Gain Control to High PWR, and the volume control will range from 0 to 50. The internal amp can also be turned off when using external amps to power all the speakers in the system.
3 Pair of Preamp Outputs: The KD-S100 is equipped with 2 pair of 5.0V preamp outputs (front/rear), along with a 2.0V subwoofer preamp output. The front and rear preamp outputs allow fader control, while the subwoofer preamp output is non-fading.
Subwoofer Control: The unit's subwoofer preamp output features a low-pass filter with selectable crossover point (31.5 Hz, 40 Hz, 50 Hz, 63 Hz, 80 Hz, 100 Hz, 125 Hz, 160 Hz, or 200 Hz) and slope (6 dB/oct, 12 dB/oct, or 18 dB/oct). The subwoofer output level is variable from 0 to +12.
Auxiliary Input: Stereo RCA jacks are provided on the back of the KD-S100 to allow the connection of an external audio source (portable, video system, etc).
Compatibility with Optional Input Adapter: An optional JVC line input adapter (item numbers 105KSU57 or 257KSU58) may be used to provide an additional auxiliary input on this unit. This feature allows you to connect a portable audio player, such as a portable MP3 player, to this unit as an additional audio source. The adapter connects to the CD changer input on this unit. When the adapter is connected to this unit, a CD changer cannot be connected.
Volume Adjust: The input level of each source (other than FM) is adjustable relative to the FM radio volume, so there isn't a significant volume difference when changing sources. Each source is individually adjustable from -5 to +5.
Detachable Face: This unit features Detachable Face Security. A face-fixing screw is supplied for making the face non-detachable, if desired. The unit comes with a hard plastic face case to store the receiver's faceplate when detached.
Clock Display: With the ignition off, when you press the display button the clock is displayed for 5 seconds, then turned off.
Display Dimmer: The display dimmer can be set to Off (normal brightness at all times), On (display is always dimmed), Auto (display dims when 12 volts is applied to the illumination lead), or Time Set (program the time range for the dimmer to engage).
Wireless Remote Control: The KD-S100 comes supplied with a wireless remote control (RM-RK300); the remote has Power, Attenuator (mute), Source, Band, Tracking, and Volume functions, plus numeric buttons 1-6.
Steering Wheel Remote Compatibility: The KD-S100 has a steering wheel remote input on the back panel. When used with the optional PAC SWI-JACK interface (item number 127SWIJACK), you can retain the use of your steering wheel and/or rear seat radio controls when replacing the factory head unit in select vehicles. The SWI-JACK is compatible with over 95% of the vehicles made from 1986 to the present. Compatible vehicles include many Acura, Audi, BMW, Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Dodge, Ford, GMC, Honda, Hummer, Infiniti, Isuzu, Jaguar, Jeep, Kia, Land Rover, Lexus, Lincoln, Mazda, Mercury, Mini, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Oldsmobile, Plymouth, Pontiac, Saab, Saturn, Suzuki, Toyota, and Volkswagen vehicles and Harley Davidson motorcycles. Please consult the Crutchfield Vehicle Selector to confirm compatibility with your vehicle.

I have had the radio for a few weeks now and it's been really nice. I was upgrading the stock head unit and have been very pleased with it. The ipod functions are a little counterintuitive, but I am not sure how it'd be better. The install was so easy and I didn't have any trouble.
