Dual 4-ohm voice coils

This sub's dual 4-ohm voice coils allow you to wire your system to draw max power from your mono amp or to safely hook up multiple subs. Match a DB+ sub to a suitable enclosure, and enjoy impressive bass punch rarely found in this price range. Polk Audio tests this sub rigorously for environmental effects caused by sun, moisture, and extreme temperature changes. They even certify this sub for marine applications, so they're a great choice for your boat too.

Product Research

Features

Dual 4Ω Voice Coils: This woofer features dual 4Ω voice coils, for wiring flexibility. When the voice coils are wired in parallel, the woofer presents a 2Ω load. When wired in series, the woofer presents an 8Ω load.

Marine Certification: Polk DB+ series speakers are marine certified (IP56 rated), making them a good choice for boats in fresh water, convertibles, motorcycles, ATVs, and other applications where the speaker might get wet. Because they have coated steel baskets and the terminals are not covered, we do not recommend using them in salt water environments.

Dynamic Balance: Dynamic Balance is a proprietary Polk Audio technology using laser imaging to determine what combination of speaker materials create the least amount of resonance. Eliminating resonance in speakers results in a wide, smooth response and low distortion.

Sealed Box Volume: Polk recommends a sealed enclosure between 1.0 ft³ and 2.4 ft³.

Ported Box Volume: Polk recommends a ported enclosure between 1.25 ft³ and 1.75 ft³.

Polk does not list a specific measurement for the port size.

Q
Can this sub be used in a down fire position?
[ DANIEL  Oct 06, 2021 ]
2 answers
A
Yes, I currently have them set up like that.
[ JUSTY  Oct 11, 2021 ]
A
It sure can as long as the mounting surface holds the speaker far enough away to not hit the floor. I recommend contacting an advisor by calling 1-800-324-9695 to check if your box does this
[ JASON  Oct 09, 2021 ]  Staff
Q
What size amp works good with these as subs?
[ Garnett  Jan 25, 2021 ]
1 answer
A
Thanks for your question. For information on selecting the best amp for your subs I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences between the amp models and help you make the best choice for your system.

Q
Can this subwoofer be used to change the one that came factory in the Ford GT350 enclosure??
[ Ismael  Apr 08, 2020 ]
1 answer
A
What year GT350 are we talking about? Even if it fits, you would likely want an aftermarket amp to adequately power it. You can chat about it with one of our product advisors here: https://www.crutchfield.com/I-rET1c290/S-SUliZgSTXG7/support/ContactUs.aspx

Q
With this Polk DB 1042 DVC, what is the ideal box size? I listen to a lot of classic rock, metal, and some edm drum & bass. This will go in the trunk of a 2017 accord.
[ DAVID  May 04, 2019 ]
1 answer
A
You want to be at 1.0-2.4 cu. ft. for a sealed box and 1.25-1.75 cu. ft. for a ported box. Most of our pre-fabricated boxes are on the small side for that sub. We could add some poly-fil to make it feel like it's in a bigger box https://bit.ly/2HfTqBh You can connect with one of our friendly product advisors to figure out which box will be best for your application: https://bit.ly/2QNxGQB

Q
What size cut-out hole do I need, in order to install the DB 1042 DVC?
[ Keith  Jun 01, 2018 ]
2 answers
A
Hi, I didn't have to do any cutting on my 350Z. My rep at Crutchfield made sure that this speaker fit the existing opening.
[ JAN K  Jun 12, 2018 ]
A
The Polk DB 1042 DVC requires a cutout diameter of 8.78" to properly fit. To discuss further feel free to contact an Advisor directly by phone (888.955.6000) or online chat. Hope that helps! :)
