Will these speaker fit with 3.5 walls and a 1/2 inch sheet rock?

Greetings Marie, and thank you for your question. The most reasonable as of today 10/03/2022 will run $500. That would be the Denon HEOS AMP. There are others from Yamaha, Bluesound, Sonos as well. All will have terminals for 2 speakers, but they all can run 4 of those Polk MC60s. You just need to double up two speakers to each set of terminals.

Do I need to remove the insulation from behind the wall before I mount the speakers or can I just mount them on top the insulation?

Yes to both, although I have them ceiling mounted so depth isn't an issue for me. Do not use stiff, sollid wire as the connectors don't hold that well. Stranded speaker wire should work fine.

How many of these speakers do you recommend for a room 25X14? I have 8 ceiling pre-wired spots spread evenly across the ceiling.

Push the insulation back away from the speaker hole to make a pocket for the speaker and mount the speaker directly to the wall board. Don't completely remove insulation and just leave it behind the speaker.

How do you remove this speaker from ceiling Sheetrock? The speak is making loud crackling sounds from TV and needs to be replaced. Over 13 years old.

It depends if you have any on the walls . I'm using this with a AV system. Strictly for music no less the 6 is what I'd recommend.

Remove the mesh grill. I have used a bent paperclip to hook it and pull. Once mesh plate is removed you will find 3 screw heads. Turn counter clockwise to loosen toggle. Pull out speaker and detach speaker wire.

Pry out the grill. There are 4 screws behind it that are attached to the swing out tabs. When you loosen the screws, the tabs should swing in and allow you to bring the speaker out of its hole in the sheetrock. You shouldn't need to remove the screws, only loosen them enough to allow the tabs to swing in. If the tabs don't release, remove the screws completely. Just remember to retrieve the tabs from inside the hole. This will only end well for horizontal installations. In walls the tabs will fall to the bottom of the stud cavity and you'll have to get creative to fish them out.

Make sure it's the speaker by changing what you send to the speaker - use a different source or swap right and left cables at the receiver to see if the crackling follows the source. I you still need to change it you loosen the mounting screws on the speaker while pushing upwards on the screw. When it reaches the end it will click and the stopper will be out of the way - allowing the speaker to come out. Be careful on the last one as the speaker will drop. The hardest part will be pulling the grill off. You need a small dental pick that can go through the hole and pull downwards.

Remove the screen and you will see some screws, loosen the screws and the backing clamps should pivot allowing the speaker to drop out.

Pretty sure. I don't know watts but I know that I've connected mine to a couple of different receivers and they rock. Good purchase and best you'll find for the money. Also, install is easy.

Is there a mounting bracket, or does it mount to the drywall?

Polk states the following for the process on adjusting the tweeter on this speaker: While supporting the tweeter bridge, carefully use your index finger to aim the tweeter. There is picture with this shown on page 4 of the owner's manual which shows the finger pressing on the black outer diameter area around the tweeter. From the product specs - Installation: The round shape and flush-design allow the MC60 to mimic the look of a recessed lighting fixture. Each speaker requires a cutout diameter of 8.1875" and a depth of 3.9375" behind the drywall. Each speaker frame has a 9.1875" diameter. Once the holes are cut, each speaker is placed in the opening and the Rotating Cams are tightened, allowing you to secure each speaker to the drywall without any extra assembly. The cam extends 1.75" deep from the mounting surface of the speaker and will accommodate up to 1.5" drywall thickness. When the cams are rotated, each extends 0.875" beyond the 8.1875" cutout diameter. If you will not be mounting these speakers in drywall, make sure the wall or ceiling material can safely support the weight of the speakers before installation; each speaker weighs approximately 3.1 pounds.

I'm installing a atmos 9.1 in my new construction basement theater room which is roughly 25x15x8 ceilings. I'm looking at Polk mc80s for front center left and right speakers and mc60s for remaining 6 speakers. Is the mc80 a good enough center speaker or so I need bigger? Are the mc60s enough for back left and right speakers? Overall given the room size, will this be a solid 9.1 atmos system?

Absolutely. The speaker is not extremely heavy, so as long as the tiles are supportive enough, you should be great. The dropped ceiling should make installation even easier.

Center speaker should never be in the ceiling. But if must be there it has to be much larger or it will be very hard to hear dialogue when there's a action sequence.

These do not require enclosures, but I'm confident they will sound better if they are enclosed. The only air space needed is the amount to make the speaker ring and grill flush with the ceiling. I hope this helps...

I installed these as rear speakers in a 5.1 Dolby system for home theater. Simple install in the. Wiping of the room, no enclosure required. No particular dimension on the space ( just sufficient clearance) and they sound great!

These speakers connect direct to your receiver or amplifier via in-wall rated speaker wires. They do not have built-in bluetooth capability.

These are just single wire speakers that must be connectes to a source such as an amplifier. My set up includes a Russound amplifier and Bose soundtouch wireless link adapters for each zone.

It does not have Bluetooth and it is not powered. You have to use speaker wire to connect it to a powered amplifier of some kind. We use ours with a Sonos Amp. Hope that helps!

Can the Polk MC 60 speakers be used in a ceiling that has insulation above? The part of the speaker that is above the ceil would be covered in the fiberglass batt insulation.

I'm hoping to replace a couple of old Jensen desk-top speakers that I used in a kitchen with these. On the same set-up I have a second pair of larger speakers in the living room, so I use the "A-B" switch on my receiver and all is well. In making a change to something like this speaker, do I need to be aware of any technical issues? I know nothing about ohms, impedance, watts, etc. Do I need to know anything about that, or can I be confident that these would work ok?

Good morning wireless speakers are not wireless at all they require 110ac power. Second your Bass should come from your Subwoofer. 3 sorround speakers are for sorround audio tracks they don't require to be so loud.

Will these hold up outdoors in-ceiling on a covered patio? We are in Colorado which is a dry climate if that helps.

18 gauge speaker wire works just fine. Hope this helps.

Speakers alone don't determine the gauge. It depends on how many speakers and in what configuration are drawing from the line. Crutchfield's big advantage is qualified technical support. Instead of asking a question here, I'd call them and ask for tech support and explain your situation. In case you have one receiver driving 2 speakers in the vicinity (10-20 ft) you may be OK with a higher gauge (cheaper) off the shelf wire.

I installed these in the ceiling of my screened in porch about 15 months ago and they still look brand new. I needed moisture resistant speakers as my house backs onto the Chesapeake Bay in Virginia, where there is constant moisture in the air. I guess these would up very well in your environment.

I've installed the speakers and had the same question. In the end I bought them because they made the installation easier. My guess is if you're handy and want to rough in a different mount you could make it work. Is it worth the time and effort is the question.

A couple of questions here. 1) What effect would there be to pairing this as a 5.1 center channel along with RC60i or RC80i's for Front/Rear? 2) what is a good sub to use along with these? Ideally I'd like something I can put in the wall as well (even if I have to do some work to make it happen).

The mc 60 will also work great as a center speaker. I have a 5.1 and all five speakers are mc60 and sound great
