Product Research

Features

Two-Way Driver Design: The Reserve Series R100 bookshelf loudspeaker utilizes a two-way driver design and inherits the 1" Pinnacle ring radiator tweeter and 5.25" Turbine cone woofer from Polk's flagship Legend series for renowned clarity and imaging.

  • 1" Pinnacle Ring Radiator Tweeter: The 1" high definition Pinnacle ring radiator tweeter, developed by Polk Audio, delivers ultra-clear, crisp highs without unwanted coloration or distortions. The Pinnacle tweeter features a finely tuned waveguide that dramatically improves the dispersion of high frequency energy ensuring a broad "sweet spot" and while the critically damped rear-chamber helps to defeat any unwanted resonances. Hi-Res certified, the Pinnacle Tweeter is designed for today's two-channel music listening as well as multichannel 3D audio found in music, movies, sports, and video games soundtracks.
  • 5.25" Turbine Cone Woofer: The bookshelf loudspeaker houses a single 5.25" Turbine Cone woofer to handle midrange, midbass, and bass frequencies. Polk developed the new Turbine cone to ensure the natural reproduction of the midrange, the frequencies our ears are so sensitive to. The Turbine cone combines Polk's proprietary foam core and the molded Turbine geometry which dramatically increases stiffness and damping, without adding mass - resulting in a smooth, detailed midrange and effortless bass.

Hi-Res Certified: With Hi-Res Audio certification, the Polk Reserve R100 delivers clear and detailed high-end response. Female vocals are particularly smooth, with exceptional clarity and without coloration. Plus, a minimum support of 40kHz perfectly reproduces the latest Hi-Res Audio files with improved audio extension.

Polk X-Port: The R100 bookshelf loudspeaker employs a bass reflex cabinet with a rear-firing port. This new patent-pending Polk X-Port delivers deep, effortless bass compared to traditionally ported speakers. Polk's newly patented X-Port incorporates an Eigentone Filter (ETF) offering distortion-free, effortless bass. The X-Port consists of a set of closed-pipe absorbers that are specifically tuned to catch and eliminate traditional speaker distortions. Polk's X-Port design ensures that the upper bass and mid-range are free of port and cabinet resonances for smooth, detailed audio.

Accoustically Inert Cabinet: Polk believes a speaker cabinet should be beautiful and add nothing to the playback. The Reserve Series speaker cabinet is carefully cross-braced to eliminate unwanted interior resonances, while rounded exterior corners help disperse sound broadly around the room with minimal diffraction, creating an open sound stage. A cloth grille attaches magnetically to the front of the speaker enclosure.

Binging Post Terminals: The Polk Reserve Series R100 bookshelf loudspeaker is equipped with a set of nickel-plated, binding-post terminals that will accept bare wire (16-10AWG), pin-connectors, spade-lugs, and banana-plugs (single only).

Mounting & Placement Options: The Polk Reserve Series R100 can simply be placed on a stand (sold separately - see Accessories Tab), shelf, tabletop, or other stable flat surface. Integrated rubber feet help to isolate the speaker from the mounting surface and protect your furniture. The R100 bookshelf speaker can be used in a 2ch stereo application, or in a multichannel home theater setup as front, surround, and/or surround back channels.

  • In a 2ch stereo setup or as front speakers in a home theater application, you'll get the most realistic stereo image by placing a pair of speakers as far apart as your listeners are sitting from them. You may choose to angle the speakers toward the middle to support a more solid center image
  • You can also use the R100 as rear surround speakers in a home theater setup. Ideal rear channel surround speaker placement is along a side wall, slightly behind and above the listening position. If you cannot place rear surrounds along the side walls, position them along the rear wall above the listening position.

Note: The R100 does not include brackets, keyholes, or inserts to wall mount the speaker.

Reserve Series: The Polk Reserve Series offers modern styling combined with Polk's premium Pinnacle tweeter and Turbine midrange/midbass driver that deliver high-resolution detail and imaging. Plus, Polk's new X-Port and Power Port 2.0 technology help to deliver deep and effortless bass for a more immersive experience. The Polk Reserve Series consists of three floorstanding loudspeakers (R700/R600/R500), two bookshelf loudspeakers (R200/R100), two center-channel speakers (R400/R300), a LCR loudspeaker (R350), and a Dolby Atmos height speaker module (R900) - all sold separately.

Optional Power Subwoofer: Add one of Polk's powered subwoofers (sold separately - see Accessories Tab) for bigger, deeper, and more impactful bass when listening to your favorite movie and music soundtracks.

Customer Q&A

Q
I have a NAD 7130, about 35 years old. What would be good choice bookshelf speakers in $600.00 range?
neal  May 04, 2025
1 answer
A
Your NAD 7130 delivers clean, high-current power Neal. To get the best out of these Polk Audio Reserve R100's more wattage would be needed. Consider the MartinLogan Foundation B1 below, an excellent match for sound quality and sonic performance from your NAD 7130. The B1 bookshelf speaker is sold individually, so make sure to order a pair! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_839FB1B/MartinLogan-Motion-Foundation-B1-Black.html

Q
Amazon listing for them says "...Enhanced Wall Mountable..." Is that correct?
pupochek  Nov 18, 2023
1 answer
A
The R100 does not include brackets, keyholes, or inserts to wall mount the speaker. The only method for wall-mounting would be with a third-party clamping bracket such as the Ethereal Helios AS-SPKR-26. Here is a link to those brackets: www.crutchfield.com/p_120SPKR26/item.html

Q
Would these speakers pair well with the Polk PSW 10 powered subwoofer which is being offered?
michael  Apr 30, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Michael, and thank you for your question. Of course it will pair well, but its also Polks entry level subwoofer. There are other subwoofers that would pair as well, and for the most part pair better. Depending on how big your room is, and how much bass you prefer.

Q
Would these speakers pair well with a nad 3045 amp or do I need more power?
todd  Nov 26, 2022
1 answer
A
These would be compatible with the NAD D 3045. However, they would sound even better with more power, especially if they're being used in a larger listening space. Feel free to reach out to our advisors via online chat or phone at 1-800-324-9695 to review the specifics of your system.

Q
Would these work well with my Yamaha R-N602 receiver? I have been wanting to upgrade my speakers to Polk's but am on a limited budget (<$1,000). Should I be looking at another model or should I be looking at another brand?
andrew  Nov 20, 2022
1 answer
A
These speakers will work with your Yamaha R-N602 stereo receiver because your receiver is a high current model that outputs 80 watts RMS per channel!
jason  Nov 20, 2022 (Staff)
Q
So I guess these wouldnâ??t be good on my 1975 kenwood reciever at 35watts ch?
robert  Nov 02, 2022
1 answer
A
Greetings Robert, and thank you for your question. The Polk Reserve R100 would work with your vintage Kenwood, just not perform as well with the amount of power that Kenwood is putting out. These speakers will sound their best with the maximum RMS power going to them which is 150 watts. Not many receivers today will have that kind of power. On the other hand, power was rated a bit differently back in the 70s and 80s. If you recall, that Kenwood receiver ran some big inefficient 1970s speakers with that 35 watts per channel. I collect vintage stereos. I have a 70s Kenwood, I dont use it, but it still works and has about the same power as yours. I can connect any of my modern day speakers to it, and have it run them pretty well.

Q
So I guess these wouldnâ??t be good on my 1975 kenwood reciever at 35watts ch?
robert  Nov 02, 2022
1 answer
A
They could be, Robert. This is a close call here, as your classic 1975 Kenwood could be a high-current integrated. Most units from that era had robust transformers, and IF so that means the Kenwood's 35 watts could be on the lower side of acceptable power on the Polk Audio Reserve R100's. If you do like to crank it up, then it's possible you may need more power. There may only be one way to find out and the good news about our 60-day satisfaction guarantee is that if you did want to try them out, you can always swap them for something more sensitive or a better match for your Kenwood within that period. It's risk free!

Q
Are these speakers wall mountable?
francisco  Oct 16, 2021
1 answer
A
I don' think so. There is not a special wall mounting screw on the rear.
gregory  Oct 16, 2021
Q
Can these speakers be attached to a stand (i.e., not just sat on top of stand)?
scott  Jul 10, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Scott, and thank you for your question. By design, no they are not going to attach to a stand.. unless the stands have some sort of clamping mechanism similar to that of a vise.
thomas  Jul 11, 2023 (Staff)
Q
Would these work for HT fronts in a 12x12 room? What power would they need in that application?
jason  Aug 16, 2021
1 answer
A
Yes. I'm no expert but I have a pair in a room that is similar in size and they sound awesome. I am using a Marantz NR 1711 AV Receiver that is pushing 90 watts per channel.
