After 2 years of daily use.
Joe from Lincoln Park, MI on 6/12/2025
These speakers are amazing. They have real life presence and they're not extremely difficult to drive. All the people complaining about power are likely using weak sauce receivers or they have a weak integrated amp. I've been on separate Preamp and Power Amp for several years now, I will never go back to integrated. Anyhow, they don't really need a ton of wattage, but if you're trying to use a receiver with only 75WPC you're going to be disappointed. I would recommend at least 120WPC+ to drive the R700 adequately. These speakers throw out amazing bass punch. Bass that I can feel in my chest from across our main room. Sorry to all the L600 fans out there, the R700 is hands down the winner with their 8" woofers. The bass punch these speakers have amazes me still on a daily basis. The mids are excellent and the highs are not lacking. While Focal speakers have a little extra sparkle up top, you have to open your wallet three times as wide to get that, and you wouldn't have the bass thrust the R700 have. I do feel they're more complete with a powered subwoofer. The finish is durable, if my dog happens to fling some slobber on them, it can easily be wiped off. I actually like the flat back vinyl finish for that exact reason. What don't I like? The Rhodium binding posts. Rhodium is the worst plating for binding posts and wire connectors. It's the only thing I wish I could change on them. I'm actually going to reach out to Polk for upgrade suggestions.
Pros: Bass Punch. Accurate soundstage. Real-life presence with appropriate components. Magnetic grills Durable finish.
Cons: The Rhodium speaker binding posts. Not sure why Polk chose Rhodium, maybe somebody at Polk liked the way it looks? Rhodium is a cold and soft sounding material in audio, it actually kills certain frequencies. While it looks amazing, It's actually awful material for plating terminals and connectors. It wasn't worth deducting a full star, but somebody had to say it. Rhodium is bad, buy yourself another watch or ring if you like Rhodium. Please go back to copper with gold plating.

Charles from Red Oak, TX on 5/1/2025
These replaced a set of Kenwood floor standing speakers that my father got overseas in the 70's. They seem to like higher power, but even with a 200 watt amp they're just a little bit anemic in the bass. I've got a 15" sub that supplements the sound. They have excellent upper and mid sound. I would definitely recommend to someone with a good power amp.

Michael from Cave Creek, AZ on 4/25/2025
Excellent sound over a range of music types. Having been in multiple concert choir programs throughout high school, college, and afterwards, I have come to want a sound that is similar to live performances. These speakers come the closest to that "live performance" staging. Highly recommend these. Great bass response, and wonderful high end. Some speakers give a "tinny" high end response, nothing lifelike; however, the upper end with these speakers is very natural and lifelike. My receiver puts out 100W per channel and that drives these speakers very well, plenty of power.

My end game speaker? Yes!
David from Kansas City, MO on 4/9/2025
I just received the R700's three days ago, so there's still some break-in time needed. First impressions are that this speaker is incredibly well built, and it shows in how heavy it is. Setup is best done as a two person job. Really nice black vinyl wrap, (pictures don't actually capture just how nice the speakers look in person). The speaker cable connectors and feet, are of very high quality. The feet make it seem like it's built like a tank. There's no need for Subs with these speakers. The bass is incredible, but not fat and bloated. Just really tight, and beautifully controlled. Mid range and horns are excellent. The R700's appear to be very linear, and WOW, are they ever composed at high volumes. This speaker dares to show off at higher listening levels. The footprint is actually smaller than the Three Way box speakers they're replacing. In fact, the pictures of them in various review videos, make them appear bigger than I thought they'd be (which is a good thing). Even though I just received them, and there's still some break-in time, these speakers are looking and sounding like the last set that I'll ever want or need. At 66 years old, that's a pretty good bet. Running them as two channel only through a Marantz SR6015, 110 watts per channel, and the Marantz drives them with total ease, and lots of room to spare. Excellent service from Crutchfield as usual, by the way. I highly recommend this product.
Pros: Best bang for the buck.

Customer service
Walt from IUKA, MS on 2/24/2025
I ordered these speakers a week ago and have received no updates or phone calls from Crutchfield. Each time I checked the status, they showed no movement of the shipment leaving VIrginia. I called twice and each time was just told "It takes a while". What is that supposed to mean to me? They already got my money so maybe they don't seem to care what happens after that. The second time I called, I just asked them to cancel my order and refund my money. They never said how long it would take to get my refund either. I think what bothered me most is that I have been a customer since 2005 and there seemed to be little empathy for my situation. I have never had an issue with Crutchfield before but I fully expected them to offer me another option or do something to fix the situation. It just bothered me that the person seemed very matter of fact and didn't care much about going the extra mile to help a long time customer. Maybe it's just me but it sure doesn't seem like the Crutchfield of the past.

John from Cape Coral, FL on 2/13/2025
I recently upgraded my entire LR stereo system. Found vast improvement with the components I chose over the standard 100 wpc receiver I replaced with a hi power integrated amp. Then I wondered how much better it might be if I replaced the Polk ES 60`s I was still using. I was drawn first to the R700 due to my 20 year history with various Polk speakers and also the fact they were bottom ported due to my placement limitations. I read all the online reviews and you tube vids for the R700 and a few others. Returned to the Polks and pulled the trigger. What I`ll say is all the reviews I saw both positive & critical are accurate: great clean bass & mids, I did find myself increasing the treble EQ early on (as told in many reviews I saw) along with a bit of adjustment to position (toe in) and afterward I`m very pleased. These things sing when supplied with good clean power. After a few days I undid the treble EQ I initially added. As I mentioned these replaced Polk ES 60`s and in actuality they are not that much bigger (1/2" taller x 1" wider x 3/4" deeper). Width & depth measurements shown are of the feet. Lastly, when opening lay the box on one of it`s wide sides and open from the bottom as instructed on the box. I did this alone and it was effortless.
Pros: Polk value Flat response Great bass & mids Sound awesome when given hi, clean power
Cons: Initially lacking highs Linear projection

Stellar speakers, amazing buying experience
Nicolas from San Francisco, CA on 11/1/2024
Beautiful floorstanding speaker. The veneer finish is impeccable, as well as the hardware in general: feet with removable rubber for both carpet and hardwood floors, jumper and speaker connectors in the back are well made. The sound from the speakers is very transparent, with good coverage on the low end. I have them paired with the Arcam SA20, a Wiim Pro Plus streamer, and a turntable and I'm incredibly happy with the results. We've opted to not have a sub given how satisfied we are with the frequency response. The soundstage is open, detailed and precise. Overall my experience with the R700 aligns perfectly with the stellar reviews you'll find everywhere. Crutchfield shipped these fast and in impeccable condition. I had a change of heart regarding the finish after pulling the trigger - getting on a call with customer service (from abroad too!) was a breeze and the lady on the phone made the change before they shipped out. Wish every online shopping experience was this good.

It's All About the Sound
Jeffrey from Amherst, OH on 8/6/2024
The speakers arrived within 5 business days of ordering. Hats off to Crutchfield for the thoughtfulness and care in packaging these. As everyone has noted, these speakers are HEAVY. However, my wife and I were able to move these into the house and situate them within the room without any issue. The R700's were purchased for a secondary listening room; however, after having listened to these speakers for the first time, I think I now have two rooms that qualify as primary audio rooms. Yes, the R700's are that good and for the price point they are simply unbeatable. Neutral sounding, but not boring/pedestrian, with a very concise/clean character, but not bright. It's hard to describe other than the sound is smooth, very smooth, and "just right" to these old ears. I started with George Szell's direction of the Cleveland Orchestra's performance of Hayden's Symphony #93. I was enveloped in an immersive soundstage that was so moving that it nearly brought me to tears. Even my wife stopped what she was doing to come in to listen, commenting that the sound was "absolutely beautiful". Polk has knocked it - smashed it - out of the park with the R700. It's 100% all about the sound. These are no frills speakers. The only thing that could possibly make these any better would be furniture grade cabinets. But, then again, that would be adding substantially to the cost. I am absolutely happy with them as they are. Well done, Polk, well done!!

Good Sound Design
Crutchfield customer from Vienna, GA on 7/25/2024
These speakers are good, in a rating of 1 to 10; 1 being a small battery operate AM radio and 10 being most speakers above $8K, I rate these at 8 1/2. They are reasonably clear, good flat response and good separation giving good detail. I think that Polk made very wise design decisions to get the R700 to this price point. The tweeter, midrange and wolfer are of high quality, but placed in a low cost high density particle board forming a vinyl covered cabinet, with a good tuned configuration to produce this level of fidelity. They put the money into those things that would yield the best sound quality.
Pros: Preserves sound quality reproduction Good cabinet appearance
Cons: Low cost cabinet materials

Fantastic speakers for music and keyboard monitor
John from KIHEI, HI on 5/23/2024
Great looking speaker with excellent sound at all frequencies. I have the R700s connected to a Rotel RA1592 MkII amp with 200 watts of power. My music sources are through an iPad connected to the front USB input on the Rotel, and a Korg Professional Arranger keyboard that puts out very high-quality sounds of over 2000 different instruments in both solo and multi-instrument formats from jazz groups to full orchestras. I have had the Korg keyboard for over a year running it through various amps/speaker combinations and the Rotel 1592/Polk R700 combination far outperforms everything else. Subtle nuances like a finger sliding on a guitar string or the breathiness of a sax are much more present than on other systems. The base is crisp and tight, the mid-range smooth, and the treble is clean with no harshness. When I called Crutchfield or other advisors, I was told that I should purchase studio monitor speakers for the keyboard. I can now say that no studio monitors can come close to the depth and range of sound on the Rotel/Polk combination. As a comparison, I have Klipsch speakers connected to a Denon amp for my audio-visual system and the sound is quite different from the Polks. The Klipsch are much brighter and punchier which makes them great for movies. The Polks R700s are much smoother and pure to the sound source which makes them better to my ears for listening to high-quality music. One of the speakers came with a faulty lower input but the upper input works fine.
Pros: 1. Great look and finish, with or without the front grills. 2. Very precise and pure sound at all frequencies. 3. Down firing port allows a wide range of placements without worrying as much about walls or corners. I have tested mine in corners that would normally cause problems and the sound is great with no bass issues.
Cons: 1. One speaker had defective lower input jacks that resulted in low volume until I switched to the upper jacks. 2. Polk tech support was pathetic. The rep did not seem to understand English or anything about speakers and amp connections. Luckily, I always buy from Crutchfield for their great support.

Exceptional Value
Alexander from Mesa, AZ on 4/15/2024
I already own an Onkyo NR7100 AVR (I do use Dirac calibration). I wanted a serious upgrade to my existing 5.1 setup (Jamo S803). Polk R700 (L/R) + R400 (Center) + R200 (Surrounds) + 1 RSL Speedwoofer 12S. Room is about 22ft long x 14ft wide x 8ft tall. I thought about going R200's for the front, but I'm not a fan of the cost (or aesthetics) of needing stands in the front. A lot of forum members also said skip the R400 and go straight to the L400 because of the acoustic design choices, but that's about triple the price and I'm not sure if my ears would notice the difference. This was a huge upgrade and I couldn't be happier. 90% of my listening is 4k UHD Bluray or streaming shows, but Qobuz streamed through the PlayFi app sounds fantastic as well. I expect I'll need to upgrade to external amplification (and a new AVR) before I ever need to move beyond these speakers. The wood finish is beautiful (and obviously not real) and although heavy, I was able to set these up on my own without assistance.

Outstanding Sound and Value, Polk Delivers!
Clinton from SIOUX FALLS, SD on 3/30/2024
I admit, it has been a while since I spent this kind of money on speakers, but I have to state that these are the best sounding speakers I have heard (for the money) in decades. I am totally impressed with the wide soundstage and the warmth of the sound. The bass is tight without being boomy or heavy. It took me a while to get them moved into the right position in my room, but they sound absolutely amazing! By far the best speakers I have ever purchased. Thank you, Crutchfield and Polk! I loved these so much I bought a R400 center channel, the R600's for rears, and 2 12" subs to go along with it. Needless to say, this home theatre will be the last one I buy. My Sunfire amp does well to power all of it with warm, clear, balanced audio comfort. Simply amazing, I got lucky!
Pros: great soundstage impressive balanced sound nice looking, not overstated or room dominating The packing on these is top notch, professional
Cons: none that I can think of I love Polk Audio home products, so kind of biased

Solid value if you like their personality.
Robert from Oxford, MS on 3/25/2024
A lot of bang for the buck and would make a great home theatre speaker. I found them to be a bit too bass heavy and lacking in midrange and upper frequency presence and detail for music only use.
Pros: The look great, attractive vinyl wrap, drivers and feet. They look more expensive than they are. Good overall sound and a great value.
Cons: They are too bass heavy for my taste, the bass overwhelms the midrange and treble even with them 4-feet away from any walls. The 'Polk' sticker on the cabinet looks like a cheap afterthought.

Deltona
Matthew from Deltona on 2/16/2024
I've had these almost a year. Took almost 2 months B4 the woofers started to actually move back n forth and sound their best..where you could hear the tonal quality's of different bass notes and strums. They are big and very room dependent. They sound different in each of the 3 rooms I tried them in. Mids are good. Highs are not overly extended..will be effected by toe-in and room. I like the tweeter..but I wasn't a fan of the newish XT series Martin Logan's tweeters, most Klipsch or older Focals. You may want EQ, PEQ,or room correction if your room is funky. Feed them a very clean signal, nice clean powered amp, correct any room issues, and these can really shine for $2k. Very good imo. I truly think that's the difference between whether you think they are great or if you'll say they are over rated. With these I use a Primare Prisma streamer (IFI ILAN, IFI Ipower Elite PS) RME ADI-2 Dac (Super Farad3 LPS, REW & Umik-1 for PEQ) Arcam PA240 amp, SVS 2000pro sub. Acrolink digital & analog cables, Koetsu speaker cables, Fujikira power cords. Bass traps on floor corners behind the Polk's. I have 2 different tube preamps 4 when I'm in the mood. Spaced 8 ft apart I get a wide powerful soundstage from the Polks. Back of the speakers are only 20inches off the wall...wish I could pull them out farther. Other speakers in this price range can have characteristics that wow you..but then they are missing something else. Polk's are an all around good one...room and system matter.
Pros: Balanced sound. Gets better as you upgrade equipment around them. Big full sound. Don't sound bad with sub par recordings but can wow you with great recordings.
Cons: Long time for woofers to break in & sound best. Room and space effects sound quite a bit.

Great value, but not the right speaker for me.
Robert from OXFORD, MS on 2/13/2024
Keep in mind that everybody's room, ears and personal taste in audio reproduction is different, but they are a 'nope' for me. Even with lots of break-in and positioning the speakers 3-feet from the back and side walls the bass overwhelms the midrange and upper end. Good value for the money, but not the best choice for critical listening. Tonal I think they are better suited for home theatre or casual listening. Thankfully all it took was a quick phone call and Crutchfield's easy return policy was set in motion and they will be picked up soon and shipped back to Crutchfield.
Pros: Vinyl wrap looks really good, solid build quality, tall enough to put tweeters at ear height, includes both rubber feet and spikes, smooth frequency response, powerful bass, not fatiguing at all, even at higher volumes.
Cons: Vocals seem distant and recessed as if the singer is behind the band rather than in front, bass and mid-bass can overwhelm midrange and treble, treble isn't the most detailed and could use a bit more 'air', "Polk" decal under the woofer looks tacky and out of place.

Polk Audio Reserve R700
Mark from Brandon , FL on 11/19/2023
I researched many different brands of floor standing speakers for 3 months, and agonized over which ones to buy. I auditioned a few at a local big box store, but nothing I heard really knocked me out. I never actually listened to these, but I finally made the decision to purchase the Polk R700 based on the great many positive reviews, and knowing if they were terrible, I could send them back. Well, they are staying right where they are! These replaced the Polk TSI 500's that served me well for over 10 years, but never had the punch needed for music. I paired these with a Marantz Cinema 60 and the difference is night & day. The 700's have tremendous sound stage & separation, and the bass all but eliminates the need for a sub. It's that good. I am thrilled with my speakers and unless they die, I am sticking with them. I purchased "open box" and saved a little money, and they are like brand new. The boxes are HUGE, so maybe bring a friend on delivery & unboxing day. They're pretty heavy too!!

My end game speaker for 2 channel audio
Wes from Virginia on 8/25/2023
I listen with EQ or bass and treble turned up. I keep mids flat and slowly ramp up lows and highs on any speaker. These need less bass and treble added than most speakers, and more audiophile speakers I would dial back mids. I traded up from SVS Prime Towers looking for more bass. I also got more detailed, less fatiguing highs, flatter mids, and in comparison recessed treble, but of the decay on cymbals is so much better. Triangles, and rim shots sound like they are in the room. Great for all types of music. These are a solid 4 ohm speaker, but are easily driven to painful volume levels with my 45 watt tube amp, but seem to require more volume knob twist when driven by my older 120 Watt Carver amp compared to other speakers. My guess these are 3 to 4 db less efficient than advertised, as they dip below 4 ohm impedance and are 4 ohm speakers, not 8 as advertised. (Generally no towers are 8 ohm). So make sure you have a good 4 ohm capable amp and use 4 ohm taps on tube amp. If you have modern electronics without tone controls, I would want to pair this with a more dynamic and sparkly amp. Imaging and sound stage is fairly narrow angle sweet spot. Have to toe in to aim at sitting position. Speakers never disappear like SVS did, but image well enough for a planned listening seat. Bass fills large odd shape room, that Svs towers struggled with. This is probably my end game speaker for 2 ch audio. For av home theater I would go SVS Prime series.
Pros: Bass Treble decay, most realistic cymbals and persuasion Accurate, clear, detailed Can tell what size pick guitar players are using, will hear things never heard before Excellent balanced sound Plays just as well at low volumes as high. Hear details never heard even with headphones.
Cons: Soundstage and imaging is great, but has sweet spot, must be toed in. Female vocals my sound recessed compared to other speakers, but I do not think they are, just lower delicate frequencies come across.

Ed from BEAVERTON, OR on 7/30/2023
Amazing speakers! I am an audiophile or at least I think of myself as one and these speakers do not disappoint. Not too laid back nor are they too forward with exceptional detail and solid, clean bass and feel no need for my SVS SB Pro 1000 which I love. I've had many speakers over the years, and these are my favorite to date. I wanted black but they were out so went with walnut. I was hesitant after reading a review saying the walnut wrap was not very good. Well, I don't know if his pair had a bad wrap but mine are perfection. Very hard to see the seam in the back around the beautiful, rounded corners and actually you cannot see them I can only feel it if I look for it. Very happy I went with walnut now. These speakers definitely compliment my modest setup and are a perfect match which consists of Furman Elite 20 PFi power conditioner. Parasound Halo P6 preamp & A 23+ amp Rotel Tribute CD11 Bluesound Node x Streamer Audioquest Rocket 33 speaker cables Balanced interconnects TT pro-ject Debut Carbon Esprit Amp -Ac infinity auto cooling fans I think these speakers will sound good with many setups, but I feel they were made for mine that I listed. Could not be happier and I highly recommend these speakers. I've had many speakers over the years including Wharfedale, Dynaudio, Kef LS 50 metas, Klipsch RP8000 and many more and these polks rival them in every area to my ears. One last thing to finish this Review. Crutchfield has exceptional customer
Pros: Solid cabinet with beautiful finish and most importantly they sound incredible in every area.

First off the speaker was a bit dull to me but my hearing is not what it used to be! I was expectiong a more of a live if not a being there feeling but it did not. Amplifiers and a sort of connections effect the sound as well as our rooms! The other reason was clearly a dislike on how I was treated by Crutchfield! John from Belleville, MI on 5/13/2023
To start off the sound quality is 5 stars IMO, They sound exactly the way I hoped they would. I bought these based on the many reviews online and YouTube, And for me they were at the top of my budget for speakers since I am planning on upgrading my old Sony ES system to a more modern system and need to budget for that. I went for the oak finish because I wanted a more sophisticated look, While I think it looks better than the black it's a little lack luster that's my only complaint. Now to the sound, The Bass is Deep low and controlled, The Mids produce incredible voice Reproduction, And the tweeters give these speakers a great sound stage. I'm very happy with this purchase.
Pros: Awesome speaker at this Price point!
Cons: Finish could be a little better.

David from Allenstown, NH on 4/30/2023
Excellent speakers. Using with Yamaha stereo receiver 80 w/channel. Mids and highs are great bass response is good but not overwhelming. Maybe a subwoofer in the future. Jazz sounds awesome. Nuances of each instrument clearly articulated. Great service and price from Crutchfield. Will continue future purchases with them
Pros: Excellent high and mid sound. No extra charge for delivery.
Cons: Bass response modest

Great Speakers!
David from Williamston, MI on 4/19/2023
Amazing overall, you really can't go wrong with these!
Pros: Bass texture & tone, dispersion, soundstage, and overall natural sound. Amazing speakers that play great will all types of content, and no noticeable hiss at idle like I experienced with my Klipsch RP-8000F's.
Cons: May need a slightly better AVR, or a separate amp, more so than with some other speaker options in this price range. Also, i noticed certain frequencies in the midrange/voices can occasionally sound a little more quiet/recessed than I'm used to.

Amazing Polk R700 speakers
Jim from South Orange, NJ on 3/24/2023
Remarkable sound quality at an amazing price. Using speakers for two channel listening with excellent sound for all music genres. Perform well with less quality recordings and really shine with high quality recordings. Great midrange with spectacular voice reproduction. Room placement is very forgiving with mine placed close to the wall. My 80 watt integrated amp seems adequate to drive speakers, with very solid bass performance. No need for subwoofers.
Pros: Exceptional design and build quality for the price. Remarkable sound qualities overall. Rivals speakers costing far more.
Cons: I would have been willing to pay for wood veneer options. These speakers deserve a wood finish that matches their sonic qualities.

Polk R700 - Unbelievable Sound for the price!
Cheikh from NEWARK, NJ on 1/31/2023
Excellent Speakers . Very deep bass (no sub needed for music), great soundstage, lush midrange, excellent at rendering details in a smooth and effortless manner. Received the speakers December 29, only unpacked them January 30??. Nice matte black like finish. Listened to acoustic jazz, hip hop, latin music, afrobeat, blues, female vocals so far. My jaw is still on the floor. I have never heard speakers in this price range nail it the way these do. I own the vintage B&W 802 Series 3 speakers that cost much more than these when I got them many many years ago. I prefer the Polk R700 sound and warmth. I added the Reserve 400 Center that I also received a couple of weeks ago to the mix today to test movies like Godzilla vs Kong, Soul, Matrix, A Quiet Place, Black Panther. Absolutely stunning! Next on my list will be the R200 to replace my surrounds in my 5.2.4 setup, and maybe at some point the R900 Atmos finally. The R700 are are a sonic tour de force. These huge beasts are very highly recommended! BUY THEM!
Pros: Too many to list
Cons: None for the price

Polk Audio R700
Brad from Madison, WI on 1/5/2023
Product was out of stock when I ordered so there was a delay(expected) in getting speakers delivered. The pair was shipped UPS freight and arrived on their own pallet in good condition. I unboxed them and hooked them up. They sounded great right out of the box. Very noticeable improvement over my old Polk monitor 70s. They require less power to drive than the M70s too and found I using lower volume setting than I'm used to using. I'll still need to break them in for a while and make some adjustments to the equalizer settings and subwoofer crossover, but so far, I really like them.

After listening to a pair of Klipsch LaScalas for the last few years I took a chance on these based on You Tube and online reviews. After listening to these for over a month now I have to say they are the best speakers I've ever owned. I have a big room and they fill it with great sound. Movies are great but to me music is where they shine. Well worth the money.

A fantastic value
Bill D from Yadkinville, NC on 11/16/2022
I haven't been able to spend a lot of time in front of these speakers, but I am already impressed with what I hear. They are no doubt articulate and neutral as everyone says, and the bass is excellent. They are well balanced, and actually not as big as I expected. Now the boxes they come in are huge and everyone is correct in saying these things are heavy! I'm sure as they break in, the sound will be even better and it's very good now. Overall an excellent value for your money.
Pros: Don't know how you can find a better value for this caliber of sound in a tower speaker.
Cons: Very heavy, and of course a speaker like this deserves a power amp of equal quality and heft.

Incredible
Drew from Bloomington, IL on 6/26/2022
I've had these over a month now and just love them. I upgraded my L/C/R from Infinity Interludes to the Polk Reserves. The Infinity's were good, but the Polk's are great. The highs are crisp and clear without any harshness or fatigue, and the mids are clean. But the bass is incredible, every time I demo it for someone, I turn my subs off and no one ever believes me until I turn them back on. Obviously the R700s don't outshine my dual SVS sb2000's in bass, but they dig so deep your average person wouldn't need subs. I am running mine with an Emotiva BasX A2 amp that gives me around 160 watts RMS, Denon 3300 receiver, R300 center, Klipsch RP-600m for surrounds and RP-500sa for atmos.

As soon as I received theses I connected them to my Yamaha A-S801. They sound fantastic, even at first listen. I do not believe in equipment burn in, only in your ears getting accustomed to new things. To me first impressions matter and these Polks sound fantastic. The Reserve r700's really do everything really well and are very good speakers, even well beyond their price point. The imaging, soundstage and clarity are very good. I hear details not only in the high frequencies, but also the mid and lower ranges. The bass is fantastic and impactful, It's great to feel music. These Polks have a slightly warm voicing and are extremely neutral and more accurate than most studio monitors. I do agree with the audioholics review on these speakers. The r700's are easy to place, but I fell they work best utilizing the equal distance between each other and the listening position. I toe them about 10 degrees of axis, outside my ears. For the best sound, for me. Although the Yamaha sounds great, I feel these speakers need more power then the 100 watts provided, especially if placed in a large room. If your in a medium or average room however, I think it's a great pairing. I definitely recommend anyone looking for new speakers, give these a try!
Pros: Everything
Cons: Nothing other then one of the speaker boxes appear to be an open box. With bad taping and a slight lifting of the vinyl wrap at the top of the speaker.

Outstanding sound and value
Arnel from Springfield, VA on 6/14/2022
The R700s are exceptional speakers. I've been listening to them now for about two weeks and I know they are still in at the break I stage. I am currently driving them with my Cambridge AXR-100 receiver and that has been more than adequate for my modest listening area. First impressions - robust, substantial bass - I actually had to disconnect a subwoofer that I had connected with my older towers which the Polks replaced. The boominess that I originally experienced with the R700s appears to be diminishing as the drivers get flexed from use. I would also describe the sound from these speakers as neutral having been used to my old pair which I considered bright. The all important midrange is outstanding on the R700s. Acoustic guitar, make and female vocals are delivered accurately and quite pleasantly. I think I can further unlock the potential of the R700s with a little more power (or high current amplification). But that's down the road. Overall I am very satisfied with this purchase and highly recommend it to those who are looking to upgrade within that low to mid budget space.
Pros: Excellent performance in the middle to lower registers. Best enjoyed at higher listening levels. High frequencies are clean and non-fatiguing.
Cons: Narrow soundstage and imaging when playing at lower volumes. Perhaps can be fixed with a quality integrated amp.

Your search is over for a speaker that outperforms its price
Michael from Crosslake, MN on 6/10/2022
Wow! Just amazing! I have put about a dozen hours on mine and they are the best speaker I have heard under 4-5k and that may be low balling it. This speaker is full but the mids and highs just sing. I am using them with a Freya+ and Rotel RB1070. You do need some raw power to really get the most out of these (Think doubling the power from 8 to 4 ohms). Please note these speakers routinely drop below 4 ohms so your amp better have some solid current. but if you do feed them enough power, their quality will shock you! I replaced the Linton's which were also great speakers, but not near the level of the R700's for just a few more hundred. They physically take just a bit more space up as they are a few inches higher and deeper than the Linton's. Sound wise they are a shockingly neutral speaker. These easily have the bass of a much higher end full range speaker as well. Voices and instruments sound just so right with these. Best of all they are crazy linear and you can really pick up the details especially in Pianos and Drums. The cymbals decay really well (much better than the Linton's) and the entire kit presents at the same volume so dynamics are crazy good.
Pros: Amazing Full Sound yet extremely neutral Well packaged and extremely easy to set up given their size.
Cons: These are extremely heavy speakers and buy some furniture sliders for the setup and placement. Bass output may be too much for some rooms and set up locations Require a ton of power to get the most out of their sound (150 Solid watts @ 4Ohms as a minimum.

Greg from West Chester, PA on 3/21/2022
I bought these speakers to replace Polk RTI A9's. Moved the A9's to the basement. I always liked the A9"s but, the r700's are so much better that I'm shocked at how good they sound. The bass is deep and well defined, the mid range and highs are clear and I'm hearing things I've had to concentrate to hear on my old speakers. I paired these with r400 and couldn't be happier. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!
Pros: Bass with 8" woofers, musical definition, home theater,

Legend in disguise
Evan from OHIO on 3/13/2022
My old setup consisted of a front soundstage of L200 for L/R and L400 Center. The L400 being absolutely amazing and my first experience with a 3-way speaker made me want 3 ways for my front L/R. So I researched for days to find out the difference between the very expensive L600 vs these R700s. First I was surprised this has larger drivers and weighed the same as the pricier L600. So whats the difference? I could find none aside from appearance and the L line having a nicer wood veneer while this has vinyl wrap. Side by side, the L line finish looks better but.. worth that many hundreds more? This has a better powerport and bass response (confirmed by Polk and independent testing (NOTE: MINOR difference imo. It's not a big difference.) This has a sealed midrange thats 6in, L600 has a smaller sealed midrange. Cabinet construction seemed mostly the same (same weight..). Other R line speakers measured the same as the L line in in-depth testing.. I was pulling my hair out trying to find out 'Why is this so much cheaper?!" Then a sale happened, I took the plunge and bought a pair of these and glad I did. These sound better than the L200s it replaced up front and has a bit more clarity and depth (I believe this is largely due to this being a 3 way while the L200 is just bookshelf though). TL;DR. These perform just as well as the Legend line at a much cheaper pricepoint. Only major difference is finish (veneer vs vinyl)
Pros: Loud, clear, clean, neutral sound
Cons: Wood veneer on Legend line looks better

GOOD OVER ALL SOUNDING SPEAKERS BUT THE BASS LACKS TEXTURE. I have a pair of B&W 683 I was going to replace with the polks but the B&W do much better with the Bass.I listen to 2 ch audio analog only albums and cds. I powerd the speakers with 350 watts per channel and turn them up loud and they did not break a sweat I play alot of contemporary Jazz and the bass is a very important part of the music. The Bass was tight for the bass drum but not for the bass Guitar notes. The midrange and tweeter are very good on the r700s. the midrange is equal to or a bit better then the B&W. The tweeters is better.IF the Bass would have been there I would have kept the the polk r700s. The vinyl wrap looks good but you can see the seems on the back of the speakers just thought I would mention this. The polk r700s would make a great HT speaker. yamaha as1100 integrated amp, emotiva amp xpa 2, denon dp 62l tuntable, marantz cd 600 diamondbacks interconnects and rockett 44 speaker cables.

Heavy Hitter with Smooth Dynamic Presence
Nicholas from Apple Valley, MN on 1/10/2022
I was looking for a speaker to listen to music in a traditional stereo arrangement. I have been extremely satisfied with the voicing of these speakers. Dynamic, wide imaging, and a generous sweet spot all make up for a great choice. This speaker hits way above it's weight, and has a really nice extension to it's low end. This is not the most efficient speaker, so make sure you have plenty of power. I am running dedicated power from a Marantz MM7025, but may be looking to push more than the 140watts I'm feeding them right now. I am very picky about mid and treble frequencies, and these have really delivered. Smooth but present! Well done, Polk!
Pros: Low end extension Dynamic soundstage Wide Imaging Balanced mids and high frequencies
Cons: Power hungry (low efficiency)

Excellent speakers for stereo music listening
Crutchfield customer from Owens X Rds, AL on 1/5/2022
I bought these speakers to complete a Dolby Atmos 5.2.4 setup, but they're great just by themselves listening to audio in Stereo or Dolby Audio - Dolby Digital Plus! I thought they would be like the R200s with more bass, but they're actually better and have a great sound stage. They appear to be more transparent than the R200s maybe due to a wider dispersion of sound; you can close your eyes and believe there is music coming from the center with the right sound recording. I listened to Dominique Fils-Aime, Steve Vai - Little Pretty, Cold Play - Coloratura, deadmau5 feat. Chris James - The Veldt, Max Richter - Mercy, Lindsey Stirling - Carol of the Bells and Ferry Corsten - Eternity. The R700s were connected to a Denon AVR-X3700H through the front left and right channels, sitting anywhere from 3-10 feet away with a volume about 70-84 dB measured with a sound level meter, without the magnetic grills on (which are nice, but the speakers sound a little better without them in my humble opinion). The R700s are a little pricey, but not so much when compared to similar speakers, and definitely worth it when they're on sale. The speakers are attractive with the premium black vinyl wrap with or without the grills. I have to say again I am surprised how good they sound in stereo! These were truly meant to be used for listening to music, but they can certainly complement any Dolby setup.
Pros: super clear, great sound stage, attractive, magnetic grills
Cons: pricey when not on sale

Pros: Vocal clarity, punchy mid-bass, great with wide variety of music. Nice aesthetics
Cons: Big, heavy speakers! Not a bright speaker, so you may find the presence lacking for some types of music.

Polk Audio Reserve R700
Lawrence from Seattle, WA on 5/14/2021
These are head and shoulder better than any speaker I've ever owned. They performed amazingly with everything I threw out at them rock, R&B, jazz, and musicals, classic. The sound is accurate both in timber and texture, lively, and warm, never sounding pushed. ( I'm quite sure my amp would give out before these speakers would.). So often in the past, I'd hear a speaker and think they were good, but missing something, something I couldn't put my finger on. Then I heard the term sound stage, that feeling that you were right there with the band, drummer in the back, bass player to the right, and guitarist on the left. Even better listen to Somethin' Else by Cannonball Adderley You knew where Cannonball was: to the right and up front, and Miles was to back and left, the amazing Hank Jones on piano forward and to the left, and behind them all Sam Jones on bass and Art Blakey on drums.
Pros: Well made, and well protected while shipped. Adjectives I would use to describe them: accurate timbre and texture, lively, warm.
Cons: The default shipping was awful. Nonsensical tracking and late by 3 days.
