Are you ready for some loud movies?!?
Andrew from Scottsdale, AZ on 5/24/2025
It's cool that the speakers recharge off of the sound bar, they don't need to be plugged in all the time. It's designed so that the rear speakers have strong magnets that hold them in place when plugged into the sound bar. They don't need to be braced. So if you mount the sound bar under the TV, the brackets for the sound bar are about a foot from the edge. The magnet is so strong that the rear speakers stay on without any worry. This surround sound system is very good. Sounds just as good as a wired surround sound. We like that we can put the rear speakers virtually anywhere and even use them as speakers to listen to Spotify from our phones with Bluetooth. The sound is amazing, it's so immersive. It sounds like you are really in the action. The bass is fantastic. Watching Godzilla King of the Monsters was like being at the theater. The other thing that did concern us was that the box was pretty beat up, UPS, but at least the inside was ok.
Pros: Rear speakers don't have to be plugged in, and can be put anywhere when watching a movie or listening to music
Cons: Some times the mid sounds a little too low when there is only talking.

Very Happy with this
Steven from Hull, MA on 5/5/2025
This product is great. I havn't turned it way up in volume yet (I live in a condo) but so far it is a dramatic improvement over the sound from the relatively new model Samsung TV. The integration between the TV, my Apple TV unit, the Comcast cable unit, and this Soundbar is great. I havn't figured out how to program "Moment" i.e., the heart symbol yet, but I'll contact the Crutchfield support team to get that figured out.

1300x - not very JBL
Guy from ALPINE, CA on 4/25/2025
The 1300x isn't very JBL. I have to agree with the reviewer who bought this to replace a JBL Bar 3.1 - I have the Bar 3.1 as well and every single point he made is 100% spot on. I'm a fan of JBL's lively, dynamic high frequency response and substantial bass. The Bar 3.1 has tiny speakers and low mid-bass is missing, which makes the sub-bass sound disconnected. I expected the 1300x to have a beefy midrange - and it does. But the highs are missing, like someone put a towel over the speakers. And like the other reviewer said, the giant sub is not k for movies but lacks the adjustability needed to get it tuned for music. The Bar 3.1 from 2018 has 5 sound modes that affect bass tuning and 30 adjustment steps. The 1300x has no modes and just 5 adjustment steps. I just couldn't get it to sound good. Bluetooth was abysmal: 20' max line of sight vs. 50' through 3 walls for the Bar 3.1 - which would also power itself on and begin playing music when you connect to it via BT. Not so for the 1300x - power ON the bar, set it to BT, then connect. Why the step backwards? Then there's the app. just 5 or 6 preset eq frequencies. Turning up the high frequencies made no discernible difference. The lowest bass frequency is 125 Hz and I noticed that stepping the sub output up to level 5 pushed up 125 Hz on the eq (subs typically cross over at 80 Hz). Great idea, poor execution. This could have been a home run product and I hope the next version is.
Pros: Battery powered rear speakers Clear, powerful dialog
Cons: Muted high frequency response Boomy bass Limited eq/adjustment options Narrow front sound stage Abysmal Bluetooth performance Features & performance do not justify price

Overall Pleased
Robert from Cumming, GA on 4/15/2025
Overall I am pleased with the soundbar. I have been a long time JBL fan. Unfortunately I had to return my first soundbar purchase due to a manufacturer issue... The unit would go into "Standby" mode every 10 minutes for no reason. Be sure to keep the original packaging for at least the length of the return policy. Also, be sure to download the JBL One app before you begin the setup. A "Quick Setup" guide is included in the box but you can download the complete user guide from the app... you will reed It!!!
Pros: Great sound with good base and clear TV dialogue. Convenient rechargeable/detachable rear speakers. Low profile design.
Cons: Setup is a bit cumbersome. Base and Rear Speaker adjustments are preset levels and not variable. Rear speakers are a bit underwhelming.

Weak surround and sub performance!
Joseph from Dorr, MI on 1/21/2025
So far this is a big disappointment. Replaced my JBL 5.1 Soundbar with this. Yes the front effects are better than the 5.1, but the rears and the sub, well...SUCK. The old sub with the 5.1 runs circles around the 1300X subwoofer. And yes..did the software update when I set up the 1300X and did the "calibration" using the JBL ONE app. With the rear surrounds I've had to put them within inches of my head to see if they are even working!! I'll try another "calibration" to see if any improvement, but so far UNIMPRESSED !

Great Movie Soundbar For Large Rooms
Tim from ELKHORN, NE on 12/15/2024
First, I want to say that Crutchfield offers the best purchasing and tech support experience by far. Now the JBL soundbar. I was looking to upgrade from my 8+ year old JBL sb400 (which still sounds pretty good). Problem was a wanted something without rear speakers that could fill my living room that has 18 foot ceilings. I narrowed my choices to the Bose, Sonos, and JBL. I listened to them at my local Big Box store and was very impressed with the JBL 1000 (they didn't have the 1300x on display). I was still leaning heavily in favor of the Sonos due to the experience I have had with my other Sonos products. However, I just couldn't justify that it was nearly 2x the price. Long story short, I am very happy I bought the JBL. The speaker bar has lots of power and sounds great. I kept the box and planned on buying a Sonos system and then return whichever one I didn't want to keep after listening to them both. Needless to say, I never ordered the Sonos since I was so happy with the JBL. Ironically, my favorite feature is that I can detach the ends and use them as rear speakers when I watch action movies. Even my wife, who has little interest in audio equipment has commented how much she likes the new soundbar setup. I would definitely recommend the JBL.

Haven't powered up yet as in the midst of mounting 75" TV on Mantle Mount model 815 (motorized) and having difficulty in securing the soundbar under the TV. Lack of rear key holes and weak #4 metric bolts into recessed base doesn't provide a truly secure mount for the soundbar.

Richard from Chicago, IL on 2/14/2024
This thing is so cheaply made.. I got it to upgrade a jbl 3.1 soundbar and it was waaay worse than what I have. There are no customization options, all preset and not preset well at all.. the 12" sub has no low end at all and muddy bass in general.. the t-rex scene in jurassic Park was soooo sad. The jbl app for it is useless. Strange then out only a fee adjustment features at all.. the sub is waaay to quiet or waay too muddy, no in between. It not loud at all. Not sure how it is getting awesome reviews. My wife even commented how this is worse than the older smaller 3.1 jbl soundbar I have.. that says something.. tried call jbl and had me reupdate it and still garbage. I am returning it asap and sooo disappointed.. only thing I can think is people that have never heard a real 11.1.4 may think this good but please save your money and go with a full size set up.. you will thank me
Pros: N/a
Cons: Old 10"vs12" ... way bigger and way crapier

Great Sound Bar - Get a different HDMI cable
Taskeen from Roanoke, VA on 12/21/2023
Initial thoughts - I was a little underwhelmed. The surround speakers were not great despite calibrating. My former $300 Vizio surround system was way better. I tried 4 different movies on various streaming platforms. Then I came across someone online saying they used some fancy HDMI cable. I swapped out the HDMI cable out of the box with a simple Amazon Basics High Speed HDMI cable and it made a world of difference. The rear speakers are very clearly present. Movies have come to life and you really get that immersion effect. I highly recommend this sound bar. Other things of note: the sound bar is pretty large in depth--bigger than most of size. I mounted it under my TV but it's a bit too unwieldy for it. I think it'll work better resting on a platform below and in front of the TV. Also the subwoofer is massive considering it's 12" vs 10". It definitely punches.

Casey from Yulee, FL on 12/11/2023
I am amazed at how much this soundbar puts out . That paired with the 12" sub that really hits is a recipe for awesome sound . I was looking at much larger systems with receivers to get the sound I wanted like the older surround systems I've had , but didn't want to have speakers everywhere. This fit the bill perfect and I believe rivals any high end surround system !
Pros: Takes up less space than much larger systems , but doesn't put out any less than a larger system
Cons: None

This soundbar is amazing. It is wireless except for hooking it to your TV, meaning no speaker wires to run or hide. It has a massive wattage to power the speakers and lets u fine tune the surround sound to a level that works for movies as different as Ragnarök and Frozen. Listen to StarTek, Star wars and its like you are the theater - minus the sticky flooring.

Great sound! Great price! [Black Friday sale and open box...] and great service from Crutchfield. It's not exactly "plug 'n play" and not intuitive; I had to go to the on line manual to fully figure out set up. Still, didn't take long, and within an hour or so we were watching Dune and completely impressed by the sound quality! And after set up, it's very user friendly.

Loses Sound input and no WiFI 6 (WPA3) support
Jason from ROSELLE, NJ on 11/26/2023
I'm surprised no one has called out these issues that I have experienced with (2) of these. I will say ordering from Crutchfield is the ONLY way to go because they listen, care and want to make it right. I had to accept the shortcoming of this unit and these are the facts, confirmed by JBL Tech support via email. 1. This is not a WiFi 6 certified unit - it does NOT support WPA3-more secure and has been a market active option since July 2020. It is WPA2 (launched in September 2004). You can ethernet to firmware update but it keeps broadcasting and its an open network. If you live in a high density area - not ideal. 2. Can lose sound switching sources AUDIO SOURCE (PCM to ATMOS/MULTI on JBL screen) then loses sound. I confirmed with JBL - that the unit works BEST NOT using the HDMI inputs. You instead use the inputs on your TV and run 1 cable to the Bar. I used Belken 48GB certified 8k/dolby vision cables. Switching between 4k Blu ray, ps5, appl tv 4k it will loose track of the audio, the LED screen will say PCM then atmos, then atmos, over and over. This happens about every 1-2 weeks. You have to unplug it, then plug back in, to fix it, then go to the source that was previously having issues (even blueray) it then is fine. Should have been fixed with firmware but never was. 3. NO EQ either on the unit itself. You have to use the JBL app as if it was a $30 bluetooth speaker. 4. Horrid remote control - bad design functionality. 5. NO HDMI 2.1 S

VERY easy to connect and install. All the remote control features are excellent. Automatically connected to my TV remote control. If you don't want to use the soundbar you can just turn it off however the sound is so good you may not want to use it without. The 12" blue tooth connected sub-woofer is amazing. Very attractive design. The sound rivals any component surround system for the price.
Pros: Everything is fantastic !
Cons: So far no "cons"

This is a great upgrade for the Bose soundbar. Set was easy. The sounds that this system produces is incredible and life like. It can easily stand up to a home theater sound system. My wife is not easily impressed, but the 1300X really impressed her. So far the only fault I can give it is the equalizer is limited. Hopefully, in the near future JBL will update the firmware to support an equalizer with wider frequency adjustments.
Pros: Powerful with surreal sounds.
Cons: Limited equalizer frequency adjustments

Great for Movies & Good for Music
Michael from Napa, CA on 8/22/2023
Really convenient package for spectacular Dolby Atmos performance. The movie watching experience is dynamic and impactful without sacrificing center channel clarity. Its percussive bass is welcome for sports and movies but can be jarring for many music genres. Unfortunately, the 3-band EQ can't adequately tame the bottom end without overemphasizing midrange. While not perfect, this delivers what I am looking for in a soundbar.
Pros: Dynamic Soundstage Powerful
Cons: Limited EQ Bass-heavy

UHHH-MAZING!!! I was really surprised at this soundbar. It creates a very movie theater like sound and atmosphere. Considering the only placement that worked for us was to have the detachable surrounds on the floor on either side of the couch, I was highly impressed. My favorite things was how life-like and realistic the quality was from the surrounds.
Pros: The detachable surrounds can even be plugged in so that that they don't have to be recharged.

The only "knock" I have is the rear surrounds are not loud enough for the large room I have even though I have them set to the loudest setting. But it still sounds fantastic.
Pros: Excellent overall sound Very easy to setup and calibrate via app

The sound is full, with high notes being very clear, mids being noticeable, and incredible base from the 12" subwoofer. The Airplay 2 feature is incredibly nice to fill your entire home with great sound and pair it with other units. Would recommend to anyone, even at an elevated price point.

Very happy with this innovative, great sounding soundbar.
Jeff from Yakima, WA on 3/28/2023
Ok I was relatively new to the concept of sound bars until we purchased an LG oled TV several years ago. Great great great picture, really lousy sound. Enter the nice little Yamaha sound bar which was a vast improvement and delivered excellent sound for the price. Being a cord cutter we found that we were almost exclusively using streaming services that all have excellent sound available including Dolby Atmos. Wanting to have better we've landed on this JBL bar 1300X. This sound bar is a bit pricier than what I originally had in mind but wow does it deliver. Really great sound quality and voice clarity. The sub woofer has fantastic bass even though we aren't really a "heavy bass" family. I am really surprised and pleased the most with the detachable rear speakers. They have impressive volume and sound quality and I find them to be very convenient to use. The app. Is minimal but useful and when I lost part of its usability after only a day or so JBL customer service helped restore it. The app has worked perfectly since. All in all this sound bar really delivers for those who want great surround but don't necessarily want a full home theatre audio solution and wires running all over. Great dealing with Crutchfield, which I decided on in part because of the great product research and details on their website.
Pros: Fantastic sound quality Great surround and Atmos Innovative reliable wireless rear speakers Super bass
Cons: Pretty pricey Minimal app.

Amazing soundbar - fabulous subwoofer. The rumbling is near home theater level. Easy setup - just plug, calibrate, and play. Atmos is fantastic with more coverage on the ceiling due to the two extra height speakers in the front. Saving private ryan, live die repeat, incredibles 2, a quiet place all sound amazing. Can't wait too watch many more movies! This 100% is worth the full price!
Pros: Ease of use App control Equalizer control Subwoofer hits very well Surround sound/Atmos is outstanding
