About the JBL Club WS1000

Bob Bihlmayer

Designed for versatility

If you're into bass, you've probably had to sell off subs at some point because they didn't fit in your plans to expand your system. JBL designed their Club Series WS1000BLK subwoofer for versatility. Its low-profile design allows it to fit into shallow enclosures, and its selectable impedance gives you flexibility in configuring your system. That means it'll fit in just about any vehicle and into any upgrades you make to your bass setup.

Selectable impedance

Unlike most other dual voice coil subs, this sub's Selectable Smart Impedance (SSI™) switch allows you to change impedance from 2 ohms to 4 ohms, the most commonly used impedances. This feature makes it easy to reconfigure your system when you add another Club Series subwoofer or upgrade your amplifier. The sub's polypropylene cone punches out bass as low as 35Hz and handles up to 200 watts RMS. It works equally well in sealed or ported enclosures, another example of its versatility.

Features

Selectable Smart Impedance (SSI): A switch on the input terminal allows you to easily change the woofer's impedance between 2Ω and 4Ω settings. (The connected amplifier should be off when changing the impedance.)

Enclosure Recommendations:

  • Sealed Box Volume: 0.5 ft³
  • Ported Box Volume: 1.5 ft³ with one 3" diameter x 7" long port (tuned to 33 Hz)
  • Free-Air: The woofer can also be mounted in free air to a baffle board (infinite baffle, no enclosure). When mounted in free air, the power handling is reduced by half (to 100 watts RMS).
  • Band Pass: JBL recommends a bandpass enclosure with a sealed chamber volume of 0.75 ft³ and a ported chamber volume of 0.75 ft³ with one 4" diameter x 7.5" long port. Bandpass enclosures often provide the most output available from any amplifier and subwoofer combination, but at the expense of sonic accuracy.

Thiele-Small Parameters: Some of the parameters change based on the impedance setting:

Re (Ω) 1.83 4.12
Le (mH) 0.58 0.53
Sd (cm²) 353 353
Bl (Tm) 8.65 12.71
Vas (liters) 40.47 40.37
Cms (μm/N) 231 231
Mms (g) 154.76 155
Fs (Hz) 26.60 26.62
Qms 13.84 4.63
Qes 0.63 0.66

Q
Can this be mounted in a downfiring sealed box? It will be going in place of my single rear seat, and I carry a lot of gear in the truck.

A
Greetings Jose, and thank you for your question. As long as the box you are getting is a downfiring box with close to .5 cubic feet of air space, you can use this JBL Club WS1000 subwoofer.

Thanks for your question. For information on selecting the best amp for your subs I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences between the amp models and help you make the best choice for your system.

My ws 1000's only have 1 connection port yet it says it a duel voice so how do i wire it ?
steve  Mar 07, 2021

A
This is a special type of subwoofer that only has one set of speaker terminals and an impedance switch simplifying the wiring process to only requiring one run of speaker wire to it.

Q
Will this subwoofer fit the back dash of a 2009 Cadillac dts?
bobbie  Jan 25, 2021
1 answer
A
The magnet diameter of this subwoofer is bigger than what we found can fit without causing issues with a couple metal rods in the trunk. We carry other subwoofers that can fit without causing issues and recommend contacting an advisor by calling 1-800-324-9695 to get a personal recommendation on one that can fit

Q
What is the minimum power requirement for this sub?
david  Mar 28, 2019

A
If you want a good sound with the minimum wattage I wouldn't use anything less than 200 Watts for a 10" and 250 for a 12".
memo  Apr 03, 2019
A
Technically zero, but the output is poor at that level. If you aren't able to use the recommended "mono amplifier rated between 150 and 300 watts RMS at 2 ohms" then this is a waste of money.
