About the JBL 601CF

Alexander H.

Strong components at a strong price

Bring on the big fun of being there live, but leave off the big price tag — that's the idea behind JBL's Concert Series car speakers. Their Concert 601CF 6-1/2" component speaker system delivers a strong sound with a striking design, accented by JBL's "exclamation point" logo on the separate tweeter and external crossover. And the speaker's patented Plus One™ structure extends the surface area of the polypropylene woofer cone to give you a better low-frequency experience.

A match for any system

These 3-ohm speakers are sensitive enough that you can power them with an aftermarket stereo, but you'll get even better results feeding them power from an outboard amp. JBL also gives you control over the tweeter volume with two selectable output levels. Woofer grilles are not included.

Grilles are not included; the factory grilles should be suitable for most applications.

Features

Plus One+ Woofer Cones: Each speaker uses a larger cone than other speakers of the same size. This is accomplished by using a unique basket design and hi-roll surround. The Plus One+ design offers greater bass output and an increase in efficiency.

Woofer Size Classification: These speakers are marketed as 6½"; the woofers will fit standard 6½ speaker openings, but do not use the industry standard bolt pattern (then again, neither do many car manufacturers at this point). In most 6½ applications, new holes will need to be drilled in the mounting surface of the car. Without drilling new screw holes, the speakers fit many standard 6¾ applications. Please enter your vehicle information to confirm fit.

High-Output Design: The 3Ω voice coil design compensates for the high in-line resistance of small gauge factory wiring, extracting more power from factory (or aftermarket) receivers. This results in clearer, richer sound for the listener.

Tweeter Mounting Options: The tweeters include brackets to allow flat surface mounting and angled surface mounting (approximately 40°).

Dimensions:

  Surface Mount Angled Surface Mount
Mounting Height 0.81" 1.596"
Depth screw depth screw depth
Frame Diameter 1.48" N/A
Frame Dimensions N/A 1.488" x 2.058"

Crossover Connections: The crossovers' inputs and outputs are screw terminals; they will accommodate bare wire or spade connectors up to 0.3125" wide. A switch on each crossover allows you to set the tweeter output level according to system requirements and personal preference; choose +2 dB or 0 dB.

Crossover Dimensions:

  • Width: 1.81"
  • Height: 0.96"
  • Depth: 2.67" (plus wire)

Customer Q&A

14 questions already asked

Q
What should I notice if I push the button on the crossover to increase sensitivity 2db? How does this change the sound? Does it affect just the tweeter or both the tweeter and woofer?
jeffrey  Feb 17, 2024
1 answer
A
So the +2db switch on that crossover is designed for just your tweeter. This is used if you feel you need a bit more volume and clarity to your highs in that speaker set. We always recommend starting at 0 and making adjustments if you feel you need more sound.

Q
I have an aftermarket head unit specifically a pyle plmrl50wb rated 50 watts rms, can i run my output from the headunit to the crossover?
blake  Feb 04, 2024
1 answer
A
The JBL 601CF Concert series 6 1/2" component set is rated for 50-watts RMS, Blake. These speakers sound fantastic with the power provided by most receivers and are compatible with high-powered radios that deliver 50-watts RMS or lower.
bo  Feb 05, 2024 (Staff)
Q
On the crossover I see input for woofer and tweeter. If I am replacing factory speakers and I have the stock radio does the crossover just go to the tweeter?
jordan  May 02, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Jordan, and thank you for your question. If you are just running the factory system, no aftermarket amplifier, then yes. All you need to use the crossover for is the tweeter.
hogan  May 03, 2023 (Staff)
Q
If I'm replacing existing factory tweeters, do I need to use the crossover or should I just splice the existing wires?
sean  Apr 22, 2023
1 answer
A
Hi Sean, thank you for your question. It is recommended you use the included external crossovers that come in this component set.

Q
Can I buy two sets of these but with only one set of tweeters?
dylan  Dec 19, 2022
1 answer
A
We currently do not sell those tweeters or woofers independently, only as a bundled set you see on the website.
arielle  Dec 20, 2022 (Staff)
Q
Does it have front and rear speakers in this package? If I purchase this, my car will have all around new speakers?
summer  Nov 11, 2022
1 answer
A
This fantastic set of JBL 601CF Concert Series 6 1/2" component speakers is a good replacement for front speakers only Summer. Depending on your specific vehicle, you can potentially use something like this matching JBL 631 Concert Series 6 1/2" 3-way coaxial speakers I've put in the handy link below for you. Now these may or may not fit in your specific ride Summer, so make sure to plug in your ride's specific details into our online Vehicle Guide. That will let you know all the speakers that do fit and will also pair your speaker purchase with any free installation gear we give you specifically for your vehicle to help on install. That Vehicle Guide I've put in the second link below, punch in your vehicle specifics and see if the JBL setup is a good fit! If you have any issues online, just give us a call at 1-800-324-9695 and an Advisor can help. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_109CT631/JBL-631.html https://www.crutchfield.com/m_399/Car-Speakers.html

Q
Do you have to use the crossovers to install these?
william  Sep 25, 2022
1 answer
A
It would be necessary to use the included crossovers. The only exception would be if your system is using an active crossover system with a digital system processor. Please give our advisors a call at 1-800-324-9695 for additional assistance with your car audio projects!

Q
On the crossover, what frequency ranges are in the woofer channel and what range is in the tweeter channel?
douglas  Jan 28, 2021
1 answer
A
We do not know the frequency being used to split the audio in the crossover. It was not supplied with the documentation for it and we didn't perform any testing to find out. I recommend contacting JBL by calling 800-336-4525 to see if they can supply that detail on it

Q
What determines whether to choose 0 or +2 setting and what does this do?
craig p  Jan 23, 2021
1 answer
A
This is a matter of personal preference. The +2 db boost is for the high frequency tweeters. Unless you have some type of device for measuring and mixing sound levels in your car, you have to go by what pleases your own ears. Unfortunately, the only way that I know of to test whether you like the boost or not is if you already have them installed with your door panels already reinstalled. If you don't like it, then you have to tear everything apart again and hope that you do like it better after you turn off the boost. If not, then you have tear everything apart again. LOL. It's a pain but it's better than not having the option at all.

Q
When I buy this item do they come with the whole set or separately ?
giotv2016  Sep 15, 2020

A
They come as a set of 2. Yes
chris  Sep 18, 2020
A
The kit did come with the tweeters for the A pillar. We didn't use the square little JBL boxes you see that split the audio into bass & treble, as our Suburban already had one there to use. But overall, very easy install and fantastic sound. Highly recommended.
william  Sep 15, 2020
A
Whole set (two woofers, two tweeters, and two split boxes).
gabriel leonard  Sep 15, 2020
Q
The JBL 601CF speaker has separate tweeters; for the 99 Tahoe 4dr front door, do these tweeters replace the stock tweeters in the door? Or do they need to be mounted separately?
harry  Aug 12, 2020
1 answer
A
You can check to see if this will fit your vehicle by using our Outfit My Car tool: http://www.crutchfield.com/car/carselector.aspx For additional details on fit or installation please contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and give you the details on if this will fit and what you will need for an installation in your vehicle.

Where do the crossover boxes go? Where are they supposed to be mounted?

I put mine on the inside of the door panel, near the speaker. I used Velcro to adhere them, Just make sure it isn't in the path of the window.
david  Jun 17, 2020
A
Anywhere near the speaker and tweeter. I have mine tucked within the door panel. Just adjust your volume settings before tucking the box away.
chris  Jun 16, 2020

hein  Feb 18, 2020

The outer diameter listed on the box indicates 6-1/4 inches.
