About the JBL 9631F

3-way sound at a strong price

Bring on the big fun of being there live, but leave off the big price tag — that's the idea behind JBL's Concert Series car speakers. Their Concert 9631F 6"x9" 3-way speakers deliver a strong sound with a striking design, accented by JBL's "exclamation point" logo on the tweeter. And the speaker's patented Plus One™ structure extends the surface area of the polypropylene woofer cone to give you a better low-frequency experience.

A match for any system

These 3-ohm speakers are sensitive enough that you can power them with an aftermarket stereo, but you'll get even better results feeding them power from an outboard amp.

Grilles are not included; the factory grilles should be suitable for most applications.

Features

Plus One+ Woofer Cones: Each speaker uses a cone larger than other speakers of the same size. This is accomplished by using a unique basket design and hi-roll surround. The Plus One+ design offers greater bass output and an increase in efficiency.

High-Output Design: The 3Ω voice coil design compensates for the high in-line resistance of small gauge factory wiring, extracting more power from factory (or aftermarket) receivers. This results in clearer, richer sound for the listener.

Customer Q&A

9 questions already asked

Q
Let me start this by including my original question and the response I received from Bo :This way you can properly respond to my next inquiry which is written in the bottom. My initial question: I replaced the front door speakers of my 2019 sierra denali ( Bose system) with 6x9 full-range three-way speakers. Why am I hearing a flat response from the new speakers? In fact, the sound is very similar to the Bose speakers that I replaced. I expected to hear more clarity and highs." Bo answered: This has to do with your Bose original amplifier and also the exact speakers you have used, Francis. The front door woofers in your Bose package are wired in parallel with your dash speakers so they should be getting a full-range signal instead of some Bose packages that will just play bass from the lower door location. With simply a speaker upgrade alone unless you use a model that has a lower impedance like the JBL 9631F's in the link below you will see the similar volume level and frequency response of the original speakers. Using the slightly lower impedance speakers can squeeze a watt or so more power out of your Bose amp and can help increase the clarity and volume a slight bit. If you are keeping your original radio, you can always add a more powerful aftermarket amp to your speakers for best results! We are always here to help. My next question is: In addition to the JBL 9631F, will I also benefit from replacing the dash speakers with JBL Club 3412T's? Let me reiterate that my objective is to utilize the Bose amp. but be able to produce a bit more sound output, mids can be the same if not, better .Most importantly I want higher highs in the front. I'm not too concerned about gaining more bass because the truck has tons of bass via !2TW3-D8 . BTW, the tweeters I have in question, can be mounted under the dash speaker grills right?

A
Greetings Francis, and thank you for the follow up question. I know the Bose systems can be a challenge. We have adapter plates we would include with the JBL tweeters, and yes they would fit under the factory grilles. Should be a sonic upgrade, but what we do not know is what is the Bose amp cutting off. The tweeters a have a range of 3K to 20K, unfortunately we dont know what the Bose amp is sending out. I would hope 20K. I have an 18 myself, still stock, but without the Bose. My plan is to go with JBL as well when I have a bit of time.

Q
What are the clips for that are included with the screws?
emily  May 02, 2022
1 answer
A
I believe you are asking about the screw package we included with your order which is shown here: www.crutchfield.com/p_120HWP0001/item.html Those clips are included in case the screws are not able to grab hold of the mounting surface when the original screw hole is too big for the screw to hold onto. If you are encountering any issues mounting them, I recommend contacting our technical support for help. We include their phone number on the order invoice.

Q
Are these speakers made for free-air operation? I have them installed in the rear deck of a 2000 Buick Lesabre, and the back is exposed to the trunk. Wondering if it would make sense to add baffles behind these and if that would have any effect on midbass.
david  Dec 15, 2020
1 answer
A
They are built for free air installations and do not need any specific amount of air space inside an enclosure. Speaker baffles do not typically enhance any part of the audio and on occasion they can hinder the bass performance requiring the bottom part of them to be cut out to allow the air to flow easier so the speaker can perform as designed

Q
are 3 ohm speakers compatible with all cars or does it vary? i was wondering cause i was interested in the jbl 9631f speakers. i have an 06 pontiac g6

3 ohm speakers are compatible with most standard car headunit or amplifiers. I have these speakers installed in my wife's Toyota Corolla and it sounds crisp and the vocals are precise running off of the headunit not an amplifier. Amplifier that can call for 2 ohms speaker and you install 3 ohm or 4 ohms will not be as loud and you'll have to turn the volume higher than normal.

They are compatible. I had some JBL 3 ohm 6×9 in my 07 Honda Accord. They sound great on with very little power.

I have the same year truck -1/2 ton Hemi. The concert series fit my front doors fine utilizing the factory spacers. Be sure to zip tie the wiring harness back out of the window mechanism's path. I learned this lesson the hard way. Enter

Thanks for your question. For information on selecting the best amp I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences between the amp models and help you make the best choice for your system.
