Features
8Ch Class D Amplifier: The JBL DA850 employs a Class D amplifier design with 8 channels of amplification that can be used in a Stereo (4 to 8-ohm) or Bridged (8-ohm) configuration.
- 8ch Stereo (8-ohm): 50 watts @ 20-20kHz with 1% THD and 2 channels driven (FTC Power Output Rating)
- 8ch Stereo (4-ohm): 110 watts @ 1kHz with 0.5% THD and 2 channels driven
- 4ch Bridged Mono (8-ohm): 185 watts @ 1kHz and 1 channel driven
4 Zones: The 8 channel power amplifier is divided into 4 Zones. Each Zone can consist of either a pair of speakers in Stereo or a single Bridged mono speaker.
Local & Global Stereo RCA Inputs/Outputs: Four stereo RCA line-level inputs provide local source connection to their respective speaker output channels for 4 zones of audio. The Zone 1 input can also be assigned as a Global input, allowing the connected source to be played back on any or all speaker output channels. The Global Out (consisting of stereo RCA jack) provides a line-level loop/pass-through for connecting multiple JBL DA Series amplifiers. The Global Out will output only the amplifier's Global input signal.
- Gain Level: Each channel has its own independent level adjustment on the back of the amplifier. This allows the output level of each speaker to be perfectly matched to its area. It can also be used to limit the maximum audio level in a certain area.
- Clip LED: The Clip indicator LED is located below the Gain control of each channel. If clipping is present while playing an input source, the Clip LED will flash red.
Detachable Euroblock Speaker Terminals: The JBL DA850 amplifier is equipped with four detachable euroblock ("phoenix-style") connectors for connection of 18 to 12 gauge speaker wire. The euroblock connectors will accept bare wire and pin-connectors (does not support spade-lugs or banana plugs).
LED Status Indicator Lights: Each pair of channels or zones has a bi-color LED to indicate its operational status. A Blue light indicates normal operation, a Red light indicates that the amplifier's protection circuitry has been activated, and no light indicates the unit is in standby mode. These indicators provide quick and easy troubleshooting of the system.
Power Requirements: The JBL DA850 comes with a detachable AC power cord (IEC 3-prong) that plugs into the back of the amplifier and into an AC power wall outlet or surge protector/line-conditioner (sold separately - see Accessories Tab). It offers 3 power modes.
- Always On: The JBL DA850 can be set to "Always On", allowing you to manually turn the power amplifier On or Off from the front-panel power button.
- Auto Sensing: The "Auto Sensing" setting turns the amplifier on when it senses an audio signal at one of its stereo RCA inputs. When no signal is present for approximately 30 minutes, the amplifier will turn back off.
- Trigger In/Out: A 12V trigger input (3.5mm) and output (3.5mm) allows power on/off synchronization with connected source components that also feature 12V triggers.
Note: The main power switch on the rear-panel of the amplifier should remain On, unless you are going to be away and the amplifier will not be in use for a long period of time. If this is the case, flip the main power switch to Off.
Mounting Options: The JBL DA850 amplifier can simply be tabletop mounted on a shelf of a stand or inside a cabinet using the included feet. It can also be mounted in a 1U rack-space within a component rack using the supplied brackets and screws. The feet of the amplifier should be removed when installing the unit in a component rack.
- Tabletop Dimensions: 17.1875" (w) x 2.125" (h) x 14.0625" (d)
- Rack-Mount Dimensions: 19.0" (w) x 1.75" (h) x 14.0625" (d)
Note: The amplifier offers cooling fans on the side and should have at least 2" of clearance on each side of the amp for proper ventilation.
Protection Circuitry: The amplifier offers over-current and thermal protection circuitry to prevent potential damage to the amplifier and your connected speakers.
