Class D Amplification: The JBL MA7100HP AV receiver is equipped with a 7 channel Class D amplifier for higher efficiency, cool thermal operation, and low noise operation. The amplifier is rated a 125 watts into 8-ohms @ 20-20kkHz with 0.5% THD (2-channels driven) or 175 watts into 4-ohms @ 20-20kHz with 0.5% THD (2-channels driven). The 7 channel Class D amplifier can be configured for a 5.1.2ch, 7.1ch, or 5.1ch bi-amp setup.
- 5.1.2ch: In this configuration, you can connect a Dolby Atmos or DTS:X 5.1.2ch speaker system with Front, Center, Surround, and Height speakers (Surround Back speaker are not available).
- 7.1ch: In this configuration, you can connect a Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD 7.1ch speaker system with Front, Center, Surround, and Surround Back speakers. (Height speakers are not available).
- 5.1ch Front Bi-Amp: In this configuration, you can connect a Dolby Digital or DTS 5.1ch speaker system with a pair of Bi-Amp front speakers, plus a center speaker and a pair of surround speakers. Height and Surround Back channels are not available.
24-Bit/192kHz DAC: The JBL MA7100HP employs a 24-bit/192kHz DAC (digital-to-analog converter) for high resolution audio playback.
Surround & Stereo Formats: The JBL MA7100HP AV receiver supports a variety of Dolby Digital and DTS surround formats including Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital, DTS-HD, and DTS-HDMA. It also supports as 2ch to 7.1ch PCM.
- Dolby Atmos & DTS:X: Dolby Atmos and DTS:X allow engineers to map sound anywhere in 3D space with effects moving from speaker to speaker all around the room and wrapping your audience in the latest films and games. You can also enjoy your 3D speaker layout with classic titles thanks to Dolby Surround and DTS Neural:X which find overhead cues in legacy soundtracks and upmixes them for awesome spatial realism. The MA7100HP supports up to 5.1.2ch Dolby Atmos and DTS:X setups.
- Dolby Digital & DTS: Dolby Digital & DTS sources deliver sound with five discrete full-range channels (including left, center, right, surround left, surround right, plus LFE sub channel) for 5.1ch surround sound. With Dolby Digital Plus and Dolby TrueHD, as well as DTS-HD and DTS-HDMA, the MA7100HP can deliver up to seven discrete full-range channels (including left, center, right, surround left, surround right, plus LFE sub channel) for 7.1ch surround sound.
- Stereo: In Stereo Mode, the MA7100HP can be set to 2.0Ch Stereo, 2.1Ch Stereo, or All Channel Stereo. 2.1Ch Stereo includes a powered subwoofer channel along with left and right stereo speakers. All Channel Stereo produces audio from all speakers by copying the left output to all left speakers and the right output to all right speakers. The center speaker outputs a mix of left and right.
Note: Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD, and DTS-HDMA are only supported via the receiver's HDMI inputs and outputs (not compatible with the receiver's optical & coaxial digital inputs).
EZ Set EQ: The EZ Set EQ app (for Apple iOS and Android OS) provides easy-to-use room equalization for optimized sound quality. Loudspeakers and room interaction inevitably introduce unwanted coloration to the sound during playback - colorations which are sometimes either difficult or impossible to remove with traditional electronics or room treatments. The EQ Set EQ app collects room acoustics data for each speaker in under two minutes using your compatible Apple iOS or Android OS device connected to the JBL AV receiver via WiFi. EZ Set EQ does not affect delay or level adjustment. It is important that you make these necessary adjustments manually prior to using the room EQ app.
- Using a microphone to analyze the audio system and room, EZ Set EQ builds an acoustic model of the listening environment. The built-in microphone of an Apple iOS device can be used for the calibration. For Android OS devices, JBL recommends using a 3rd-party microphone (such as the Dayton Audio iMM-6C USB-C microphone) for the best results since every Android device has different a microphone/frequency response.
- EZ Set EQ primarily addresses room interactions in the low frequency bands, that way it has minimal effect on overall loudspeaker voicing. The low frequency response can be adjusted according to the loudspeaker's natural low frequency extension to avoid boosting lower than the speaker can handle, and by the size of the room.
Note: You have the option to upgrade to Dirac Live with a paid subscription. Dirac Live is an advanced state-of-the-art digital room correction software that utilizes your Windows PC or Mac computer and a 3rd party USB microphone (sold separately) to analyze your speakers and listening room for optimum speaker performance and the removal of unwanted sound colorations introduced by the room. The result is substantially improved soundstaging, clarity, and voice intelligibility.
Audio Settings: The JBL MA7100HP AV receivers offers a variety of audio settings to suit your preference, content, and application.
- Bass & Treble: The JBL MA7100HP allows you to alter the bass and treble tone controls for all currently active speakers for each individual input. For example, if your turntable source sounds a little bass light, you can always correct for this by selecting the source in the Source Setup menu and add 2 or 3dB to the Bass control. Then, whenever the Turntable input is selected, the bass is automatically boosted for as long as that input is selected.
- Dialog Enhance: A proprietary JBL audio enhancement setting to improve the intelligibility of spoken dialog for cinema applications using a center channel. However, if you are not using a center channel speaker then this setting will have no effect.
- Pure Analog: Pure Analog mode bypasses all digital signal processing for a pure analog signal path when listening to analog audio source.
- Source Level: The relative level of each input source can be set and adjusted manually to keep the various sources sounding about the same level for any given volume control setting.
- Max On Volume: This feature limits the maximum volume the receiver operates in the main zone when it is switched on or comes out of Standby. The receiver comes on at this stored volume setting if the last used (possibly very loud) volume exceeds this value. It is stored in memory and recalled each time the unit is powered up.
eARC (Enhanced Audio Return Channel): This feature of the AV receiver's main HDMI monitor output allows audio to be sent from your compatible TV to the receiver through the same HDMI cable already being used to send audio and video to your TV. This eliminates the need for extra cables connected to your television. eARC (Enhanced Audio Return Channel) will support uncompressed audio formats like Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, & DTS HD Master Audio - where as the previous ARC (Audio Return Channel) was limited to only Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, DTS, DTS HD, and PCM.
Note: Supported content will be dependent on whether your TV features a HDMI eARC or ARC jack.
Line-Level & Phono Analog Inputs: The JBL MA7100HP is equipped with two analog line-level RCA inputs for connecting up to two external analog line-level sources, plus s Phono MM input that allows you to connect your turntable with a MM (moving magnet) phono cartridge.
Optical & Coaxial Digital Audio Outputs: The JBL MA7100HP is outfitted with two digital audio inputs. The two digital audio inputs consist of one optical (Toslink) input and one coaxial (S/PDIF) input. Both digital inputs can support Dolby Digital, DTS, and 2/5.1/7.1ch PCM (up to 24-bit/192kHz).
Binding Post Speaker Outputs: The JBL AV receiver has binding post terminals for all of it speaker connections (Front Left, Front Right, Center, Surround Left, Surround Right, Surround Back/Height Left, and Surround Back/Height Right). The binding posts can accept bare wire (up to 12AWG), pin connectors, and banana plugs (single only). You can connect 8-ohm, 6-ohm, or 4-ohm loudspeakers.
Dual Sub Outs: The JBL MA7100HP AV receiver is equipped with two mono-RCA subwoofer LFE outputs for connecting up to two powered subwoofers. The two subwoofer LFE outputs are not discrete and share the same low frequency effect channel.
Zone 2 (Party Mode): Zone 2 (Party Mode) allows the JBL MA7100HP to send 2-channel stereo audio to speakers in a second room. Zone 2 (Party Mode) always mirrors the audio output in the Main Zone. Multichannel sources are mixed down to 2-channels and output to the second listening area. Zone 2 (Party Mode) can be powered by the JBL AV receiver or by an external power amplifier.
- Speaker-Level Outputs: You can configure the Surround Back/Height channels of the MA7100HP's amplifier to power a pair of speakers in Zone 2 (Party Mode). In this setup, the Main Zone will be limited to 5.1ch audio.
- Line-Level Outputs: You can also use the MA7100HP's stereo preouts to send audio to a separate amplifier for powering a pair of speakers in Zone 2 (Party Mode). In this setup, the Main Zone can still produce up to 5.1.2ch or 7.1ch audio.
Note: Zone 2 (Party Mode) does not allow you to play a different source than the main zone.
Video Section
HDMI 2.1: The JBL MA7100HP AV receiver is outfitted with 6 HDMI inputs and two HDMI outputs that meet HDMI 2.1 and 2.0 specifications with support for 8K and 4K ultra-HD video, plus HDR (High Dynamic Range), and HDCP 2.3. Make sure to use an Ultra High Speed 48Gbps HDMI cable for the best 4K/120Hz or 8K/60 video performance.
- 8K/60Hz + 4K/120Hz Pass-Through: HDMI inputs (1-2-3), as well as both HDMI outputs support 8K/60Hz and 4K/120Hz video pass-through; while HDMI inputs (4-5-6) support up to 4K/60Hz. The receiver will also pass 1080p/i, 720p, and 480p/ video signals over HDMI.
- HDCP 2.3 Compliant: All of the AV receiver's HDMI inputs and outputs support HDCP 2.3, which fully complies with the latest copyright protection standard for 8K and 4K ultra-HD video transmission.
Dual HDMI Outputs: The two HDMI outputs are parallel, so the same HDMI input audio/video signal is output through both and can be used simultaneously - so you can send the same audio/video source to your main TV and a TV in another room. Both HDMI outputs support up to 4K/120Hz or 8K/60Hz. The same video resolution will be output to both TVs and will be limited to the max resolution supported by both TVs.
HDR (High Dynamic Range): HDR (High Dynamic Range) video provides enhanced picture quality by simultaneously enabling greater detail for both the dark and bright parts of an image. HDR reproduces a greater dynamic range of luminosity or brightness levels, creating greater contrast. This increased contrast reveals the subtle nuances of the image, from detailed blacks and shadows to the brightest whites and colors, plus greater depth.
- HDR10: HDR10 is an open standard and currently the most popular HDR format on the market. It uses static metadata at the start of a movie to tell the receiver and your TV that the video content is encoded using HDR.
- HDR10+: HDR10+ is a new open standard that leverages dynamic metadata to produce enhanced contrast and colors on an expanded range of televisions. HDR10+ incorporates dynamic metadata that allows the adjustment of brightness levels on a scene-by-scene or even frame-by-frame basis. By applying individualized tone mapping to each scene, HDR10+ delivers an incredible viewing experience. The picture quality offers an enhanced visual experience with more detailed expressions, brighter shadow areas and more accurate color renderings that stay true to the creator's original intent.
- Dolby Vision: Unlike HDR 10 which contains static metadata and HLG which uses no metadata, Dolby Vision uses dynamic metadata technology which sets individual color and brightness levels for each and every scene. Dolby works directly with filmmakers at major Hollywood studios to create superior HDR video masters of blockbuster movies.
Enhanced Gaming: The JBL MA7100HP supports HDMI 2.1 enhanced gaming features on HDMI inputs (1-2-3) and both HDMI outputs. These gaming enhancements include 4K/120Hz pass-through that enables ultra-fast motion; VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) which eliminates lag, stutter, and frame-tearing for fluid gameplay; ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode) to optimize latency from source to screen; plus QFT (Quick Frame Transport) which limits lag for a smoother video gaming experience.
- 4K/120Hz Pass-Through: 4K/120Hz pass-through enables ultra-fast motion UHD images to be crisp and razor-sharp; and sports, action movies, and high-performance gaming benefit significantly.
- Variable Refresh Rate (VRR): Support for Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) allows the TV to adapt to certain Game console's frame rate. This helps to reduce or eliminate lag, stutter and frame tearing for more fluid and better detailed gameplay.
- Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM): The receiver will enter ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode) when it detects a gaming signal from a compatible device (such as a Xbox One) and allows for a smooth, lag-free gaming experience.
- Quick Frame Transport (QFT): Quick Frame Transport (QFT) transmits each frame at a higher rate to decrease "display latency", which is the amount of time between a frame being ready for transmission in the GPU and that frame being completely displayed. Enjoy reduced latency for smoother, tear-free entertainment experience.
Other HDMI Features: Other HDMI features include Lip Sync and HDMI Pass Through.
- Lip Sync: Each input can have its own setting to add a time delay between the audio and video signals to compensate for the sound and picture not being synchronized. The range of lip sync delay is 0 to 250 milliseconds. The lip sync adjustment can only correct for delayed video. If the audio is late set lip sync to its minimum.
- HDMI Pass Through: This HDMI feature enables the AV receiver to pass-through the last selected HDMI audio/video to your TV even when the receiver is off and in standby mode.
