About the JBL MT6HLB

Jon Paul

Sound in the sweet spot

These powerful 6-1/2" tower speakers from JBL give you the sound you want, where you want it. If your crew is into water-skiing or wakeboarding, these speakers are ideal for your boat because they send the sound over the stern and right to the wave rider's "sweet spot."

All about the angles

The secret is the patent-pending design, which features an angled face that points the speakers right at the rider, instead of at the water and everything else behind the boat. The rider gets great sound and everyone inside the boat gets a better listening experience, too.

Powerful performance

JBL is all about great sound, and these Tower X marine speakers deliver. The MT6HLB features a 6-1/2" long-throw polypropylene woofer cone with a rubber surround and a 1” horn-loaded titanium compression tweeter, so you'll get the deep bass and thrilling highs you need to make your music sound great on the water. They're also made for marine use, so they'll stand up to moisture and punishing sunlight.

Built-in RGB lighting

JBL's Tower X speakers feature built-in multicolor RGB LED lighting that'll add an extra cool factor to your boat. You can hardwire them and choose from one of the seven standard color options, or connect them to your existing RGB light control system.

Versatile mounting options

The durable 360º bracket design adjusts to fit 1-3/4" to 3" bar sizes. They also allow you to achieve a cleaner installation by threading wiring directly through the bottom bracket and into the speaker enclosure.

Features

Drivers: The JBL MT6HLB Tower X waketower speakers include a 6-1/2" long-throw woofer, with a polypropylene cone and rubber surround, coupled with a 1" horn-loaded titanium compression tweeter, providing both deep bass and smooth highs. Each speaker can handle up to 100 watts RMS (300W peak power).

Patent Pending Design: The Tower X marine speakers feature a patent pending angled face design that points the speakers at the rider's listening position instead of the water at the back of the boat. This provides the rider with excellent sound quality while reducing the smearing effect caused by music reflecting off the water.

Marine Rated: The JBL Tower X speakers have been engineered with marine-grade materials and components to overcome the demands of harsh marine environments, such as intense salt spray and UV rays. JBL speakers undergo an intense testing process that freezes, bakes, and shakes them, as well as drives them at full power for days at a time.

RGB Lighting: Each of the two Tower X speakers features built-in multi-colored RGB LED lighting. An included 12" wiring harness lets you hardwire the speakers directly to a +12VDC power source, allowing you choose from one of seven "static" color options. An optional RGB lighting control system, such as the Wet Sounds RF-RGB-MC V2 or the JL Audio MLC-RW (both sold separately), can be used to add multi-color function and motion to the RGB lighting.

Signal Wiring: Two spring-post terminals, accepting speaker wire up to 16AWG, are provided on the top of the enclosure along with the RGB harness socket. A screw-down cover is provided, hiding the wire connections and providing added protection. Both the speaker and LED wiring can be threaded through the bottom mounting bracket and into the speaker enclosure, limiting the amount of exposed wire and providing a clean looking install.

Mounting: The JBL Tower X marine speakers include a rugged 360˚ rotating bracket, designed to mount to round bar-tubing ranging from 1.75" up to 3.0" in diameter. Like the speaker enclosures, the mounting brackets are designed to withstand the harsh marine environment. Two 20" safety cables are also provided for securing the waketower speakers. Zippered neoprene covers are provided for protecting the speakers when not in use.

Specifications:

  • Power Handling: 100 Watts RMS/300 Watts peak
  • Sensitivity (@2.83V): 90dB
  • Frequency Response: 50Hz - 20kHz
  • Voice Coil Diameter: 1.5"
  • Impedance: 4Ω
  • Mounting Bar Diameter: 1.75" - 3"

Customer Q&A

Q
What type of amp will these need?, putting them in a jeep.
trever  Apr 08, 2023
1 answer
A
These JBL MT6HLB 6 1/2" marine speakers are a great addition to a Jeep for amazing top-down sound, Trever. These can handle up to 100-watts RMS, so a powerful 2-channel amp is in order! I suggest the JBL Apex PA1502 in the link below. This amp hits the nail on the head wattage wise at 100-watts per channel, and it has speaker-level and line-level input capability so you can connect to a factory OR aftermarket radio with no worry. It is also marine rated for durability! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_109APEX150/JBL-Apex-PA1502.html
