Features
2.5-Way Driver Design: The JBL Studio 6 Series 680 is a floorstanding loudspeaker that utilizes a 2.5-way driver design, featuring JBL's 1" compression driver (2414H-1) mated to a High-Definition Imaging (HDI) horn and two 6.5" PolyPlas cone woofers. The dual 6.5" woofers are configured so that the upper woofer delivers both midrange and bass frequencies, while the lower woofers produces only bass frequencies.
- 1" HDI Compression Driver: The Studio 680 features a horn-loaded 1" high-frequency compression driver with a High-Definition Imaging (HDI) waveguide for exceptional clarity and precision detail.
- Dual 6.5" PolyPlas Cone Woofers: The floorstanding speaker houses dual 6.5" long-throw woofers with a PolyPlas cone and rubber surround for high output, high excursions, and extended bass response. The PolyPlas cone is ribbed for improved strength that helps deliver richer and more articulate bass with low distortion.
Bass Reflex (Ported) Enclosure: The JBL Studio 6 Series floorstanding speaker features a bass reflex (ported) enclosure with a rear-firing port for greater efficiency and bigger bass response. A cloth grille attaches magnetically to the front of the speaker enclosure.
Dual Binding Posts: The JBL Studio 680 is equipped with two sets of binding post terminals allowing you to bi-amp or bi-wire the floorstanding loudspeaker. These binding posts ensure a secure connection to many types of cable and connectors. The binding post terminals will accept banana plugs (single only), pin-connectors, spade-lugs, and bare wire (16-10AWG). Plastic inserts inside the binding posts will need to be removed in order to use banana plugs.
- Bi-Wiring: Bi-wiring can provide noticeable improvements in the overall transparency of your loudspeakers. Run separate speaker wires to the low & high frequency drivers from a single amplifier (the upper set of binding posts are for the high frequency drivers; the lower set of binding posts are for the low frequency drivers).
- Bi-Amping: Bi-amping allows you to use separate amplifiers for the high & low frequency sections of your loudspeaker for greater dynamic range & lower distortion. We recommend that your separate amplifiers have identical gain to preserve the speaker's voicing balance.
Felt or Spike Feet: The Studio 680 comes with felt and spike feet for a variety of flooring. The spike feet should be used on carpet floors, while the felt feet are designed for hardwood, vinyl, laminate, and tile floors.
- Dimensions with Felt Feet: 8.9375" (w) x 39.6875" (h) x 12.0625" (d)
- Dimensions with Spike Feet: 8.9375" (w) x 40.75" (h) x 12.0625 " (d)
Note: Make sure to always utilize either the spike or felt feet for optimum sound quality and maximum stability.
Application & Placement Options: The Studio 680 floorstanding loudspeaker can be used in a 2ch stereo application, or in a multichannel home theater setup as front, surround, and/or surround back channels.
- In a 2ch stereo setup or as front speakers in a home theater application, a pair of speakers should be spaced 6' to 10' apart and form an equilateral triangle with the main listening position. Angling the speakers toward the listening position can improve stereo imagining. The speakers will produce the most accurate stereo soundstage when the angle between the listener and speaker is between 40 and 60 degrees. Generally, bass output will increase as the speaker is moved closer to wall or corner. For best performance, it is recommended that you place the speaker at least 20" away from the side wall.
- When you use a pair of speakers as surround channels in a home theater system, place them on the side walls slightly behind the listening position, facing each other. An alternate location would be on the back wall behind the listening position, facing forward and 3' to 6' apart.
Studio 6 Series: The Studio 6 Series delivers JBL's big dynamic sound with crisp highs, detailed midrange, and powerful bass for high-fidelity sound. The Studio 6 Series from JBL consists of three floorstanding speakers, two bookshelf speakers, two center-channel speakers, an on-wall surround speaker, a variety of architectural speakers, and two powered subwoofers.
The JBL Studio 680 replaces these items:
- dual 6-1/2" PolyPlas® woofers in bass-reflex enclosure with tuned port
- 1" compression driver with HDI (High Definition Imaging) waveguide technology for detailed sound across a wide listening area
- frequency response: 38-40,000 Hz
