Good step up from small subwoofers
John from Baltimore, MD on 3/14/2023
Not many reviews for this subwoofer, but I took a chance and do not regret it. I use the subwoofer mainly for music with my Yamaha A-S301 integrated amplifier. Although I have also used it with movies and like the sound, I am not a home theater buff so I will not speak to its use in that format. However, for music I am satisfied with the subwoofer. I can't offer any information on longevity at this point, but it seems solidly constructed. I expect it will last a while with my moderate use.
Pros: Value Construction
Cons: Only one input type

Replacement purchase
John from Defiance, OH on 2/6/2023
I've had two Infinity R12 subs that died on me. I decided to go with JBL based on their reputation. My first impression when it came was the box said it was 12" 500 watts. It's not! It's rated at 250 watts RMS continuous power. My 2nd impression was the 12" speaker looks much smaller than the 12" speakers on my old Infinity's. My old Infinity's were rated at 300 watts, only 50 watts more than this JBL, yet I can tell a huge difference in perceived sound output. This JBL, to me, seems to have much less sonic power and thump than what it is replacing. My first Infinity had to be repaired twice and after dying a 3rd time I decided to buy a new one. The 2nd one didn't even last a year smh. I'm an old man and don't have much longer to live so as long as this JBL out lasts me, I'd have to say I'm at least satisfied with it lol.

Large box with no sound
John from SAVANNAH, GA on 2/5/2023
Read this review before you purchase this unit! I purchased this last year but did not get it set up for several months due to a relocation issue. Once I had it going, I noticed that the output was basically nonexistent. I tested it side by side with a much smaller and very inexpensive Klipsch subwoofer and the Klipsch outperformed it. Then I tried them side by side with a different receiver, same result. I contacted Crutchfield support, which was excellent as usual. They agreed it appeared that the unit had a problem. fortunately, it was still under warrantee, but I would need to go to JBL Harmon for warrantee support. JBL was also very helpful and replaced the unit. Unfortunately, the new unit had exactly the same result. I will acknowledge I can get adequate sound IF I crank up the received to max level for the sub and max volume on the sub control. A unit that is advertised as 500 watts peak power should be blowing out my windows at those settings. This unit takes up a lot of real estate and just does not deliver. No clue how this design passed QA and customer test back at JBL. Many better options out there in this price range.
Pros: None
Cons: Zero value, large, heavy, minimal sound output

It never worked right
scott from Hayward on 12/10/2022
This thing never worked right. Then stopped working all together. It never had the performance a 500w 12" sub should have. And half the time I wondered if it was turned on at all? I called Crutchfield but the rep only read the manual to me, had nothing of value to help me, and never recommended returning it. Sadly it died right after the warranty ran out. Now doing my research for repair I find a lot of people had this exact same problem. I would choose something else.

Excellent bass depth and pairing
Isaiah from Perkasie, PA on 12/5/2022
Frequency range is exceptional for a $300 subwoofer. Shipped immediately and arrived within two days. I have this paired with stereo JBL 305Ps and the sound pairing between the two speakers and woofer is near perfect. The 125w monitors are spot on for the 500w woofer. 8/10 combo, do recommend
Pros: Pairs well with 305p studio monitors, clean bass tone, not too large for a 25x25ft room
Cons: RCA and Speaker wire only, no 1/4in or XLR input

Pros: High power, deep bass. Very immersive
Cons: None to mention at this price point!

Nicholas from Pittston, PA on 8/17/2022
I think this sub is more than adequate. I've put both rock and rap through it and am satisfied. I keep it at about 75% volume and crossover set to 80. This is paired with my A170 towers. When there's another open box I'm gonna pick up a second for stereo bass. Much better for double bass rock.

JBL Stage A120P
Chris from White House, TN on 8/10/2022
This is a amazing subwoofer! I've been looking for a new sub and found a winner. My favorite thing with this sub is that even if I max out my home theater reviver the sun never decreases bass like most subwoofers I have tried in this similar price range. Blends very well with my Definitive 800 satellites running on a Sony 145w per channel. I have always had sealed subwoofers and was really worried about port noise. To my surprise the detail was crisp and now a JBL fan. Amazing product! Huge shout out to Crutchfield for helping me through returns and wonderful help.
Pros: Even turning up the reviver to max this sub keeps the bass up every step!
Cons: Size of the subwoofer

Robert from Port Jeff Sta, NY on 5/16/2022
It doesn't compare to the Polk I was replacing. Spoke with a Crutchfield advisor and was returning the unit as DOA after troubleshooting over the phone. While waiting for the replacement to ship, I went through all my Onkyo amp settings for the 3rd time and found that the unit did not work out of the box until it was turned all the way to max and turned back from there. Peculiar, but when I called Crutchfield back to cancel the replacement, was told to monitor the situation.
Pros: Looks nice
Cons: Expected more from the JBL brand.

JBL Stage A120P
Thomas from Santa Cruz, CA on 3/10/2022
Crutchfield technical support did an excellent job helping me find the settings on my receiver and suggesting what to put the settings at. Generally I think getting settings right for subwofers is way too complicated. Not sure who to blame for that - receiver, subwofer or both??? But once I got all the settings to the right place this subwofer works well, producing clean pleasing bass. The unit was reasonably priced especially since I caught it on sale.
Pros: Once my receiver settings were found and set, the subwofer works great, clean pleasing bass and adjustments on the sub work well. Reasonably priced.
Cons: Difficult to get all the settings right.

An affordable and powerful 12" subwoofer
Kevin from Massillon, OH on 3/7/2022
Delivers a good bass punch that is clean and authoritative. I use it as a second subwoofer along with an Infinity SUB R12. The A120P is a great companion to my JBL Stage A190 fronts, Stage A125C center and Stage A130 surround speakers. All are connected to a Yamaha Aventage RX-A4A receiver. The overall sound of the system is awesome when watching movies or listening to music. The A120P is priced right and I am glad I bought it.
Pros: Sound quality and power. Price

Purchased this subwoofer to upgrade from a Polk 8 inch subwoofer. After making the necessary adjustments in my receiver and the subwoofer itself, this subwoofer handles anything I throw at it. Very deep bass punch bass. Excellent build quality! Highly recommend!
Pros: 12 inch Subwoofer provides much deeper, bigger sounding bass. Built in 250 watt amplifier. Solid built structure with heavy duty black coating.

JBL Stage A120P
Edgar from Sacramento, CA on 2/16/2022
Not the best in my opinion. I have a Klipsch 12" 200 watt RMS sub that I got from Costco and it sounds better and thumps louder than this. Not sure it's worth the original price. Might be okay if you get 2. Don't think 1 is sufficient. Not sure I'd recommend for the price. Bass is deep but not the loudest even at the highest gain setting. Hopefully it lasts at least.
Pros: Looks nice
Cons: Not the loudest.

Not to be underestimated, this sub is awesome
Jon from Garden Grove, CA on 2/16/2022
I started my home theatre journey with the JBL stage A130 bookshelves, then gradually added the center channel and a pair of towers all from the same JBL stage series. Once this A120p subwoofer arrived, it was magic to my ears. Music listening and the experience of watching movies were all elevated because not only does this sub make everything sound better, you could feel it as well. Adding this subwoofer was the missing piece that made me excited about 2 channel listening and streaming movies at home again with a giant projected image. If dialed in and calibrated correctly, it performs impressively well. The bass here is tight with a quick attack when listening to rock, hip-hop, and live performances. For movies, it brings the local theatre experience home since the bass is so clean, articulate, and delivers that deep authoritative power that everyone in the room can feel. I would say this sub not only brings the rumble and the thunder, it is also more refined than most subwoofers I have heard in this price range since surprisingly it doesn't draw attention towards itself but complements my entire system as a whole. It disappears along with the other speakers when listening to 2-channel music. For home theatre, it delivers that gut punch once that bass drops that I have been looking for.
Pros: Quick attack, tight, deep smooth bass
Cons: Why I didn't buy it sooner

Excellent sub-woofer
Eric from Sykesville, MD on 1/30/2022
I purchases this to replace a Mirage 12" subwoofer, which will be moving to another spot in the house. It is coupled with a pair of JBL L820s and a pair of JBL L830s as well as the center channel speaker of the same series (didn't feel like craning my neck behind that one this morning) for a 5.2 surround system with a Yamaha RX-A550. I am very happy with the performance of this subwoofer, as well as the available controls and adjustability. Crutchfield, as always, was a dream to work with.
Pros: Affordable Crossover frequency response controls Volume controls Self-powered with stand-by mode
Cons: None

As a Pro Touring Audio Engineer for 30 years I have always found JBL products to be of the highest and most reliable quality. In the mid 1970s as the 18 inch speakers were being developed , JBLs touring product manager(MARK GANDER ), and CLAIR BROTHERS AUDIO, worked together on product development. This gave we at CLAIR BROS. the ability to work directly on choosing the best 18 inch woofer to be designed for the now famous CLAIR BROS S4 full range 4 way touring speaker that was the superior enclosure up to the time of the line array systems. I have owned JBL 4311 Studio Monitors and a pair of Lancer 99 speakers with the 14 inch low end speakers since the 70's and the JBL Stage A 120P sub low units have taken my home system to new and greater full spectrum audio quality. Can not say how pleased I am with these units, 5 STARS in my book
