Quality and power

JBL has been building high-performance loudspeakers for many decades, so they know something about bass. They made their latest Stadium Series subwoofers to deliver powerful low-end punch and handle the high wattage of today's car amplifiers while giving you multiple options for installation.

Handles up to 450 watts RMS

The Stadium Series 102SSI 10" sub handles up to 450 watts RMS, and it's optimized for use in a very small sealed enclosure. JBL uses the airflow from the internal works to cool the 3" voice coil, so you can rely on this sub to stay cool in the heat of battle. The sturdy glass fiber/paper pulp composite cone and nitrile rubber surround will stand up to all the abuses of heavy bass output.

Selectable impedance

This Stadium Series subwoofer features SSI™ (Selectable Smart Impedance), a switch which lets you vary the sub's impedance from 2 ohms to 4 ohms to optimize its effectiveness. If you upgrade your amplifier or decide to add another sub, you'll be able to adjust the 102SSI's impedance to work best with your system.

Versatile power

The terminals on this Stadium Series sub will accept up to 10-gauge wire. You'll get full power from your amp even over long wire runs, so your subwoofer will have the juice you need. See what this JBL sub can do for your system.

Product Research

Features
Enclosure Compatibility
Specifications

Features

Selectable Smart Impedance (SSI): A switch on the input terminal allows you to easily change the woofer's impedance between 2Ω and 4Ω settings. (The connected amplifier should be off when changing the impedance.) The power handling is the same for either setting; 450 watts RMS/1350 watts peak.

Cone: The cone material is a composite of glass fiber over a paper pulp material. Adding the glass fiber layer increases cone rigidity to improve bass accuracy, while the pulp base improves the sub's damping characteristics.

Terminal: The spring terminals will accept bare wire up to 8 gauge.

Enclosure Compatibility

Sealed Box: JBL recommends a sealed enclosure with an internal volume of 0.8 ft³. Sealed enclosures provide the most control over a woofer and provide accurate sonic reproduction, making them suitable to all types of music.

Ported Box: JBL recommends a ported enclosure with an internal volume of 1.5 ft³ using one 3" diameter x 6" long port, resulting in a tuning frequency of 43 Hz. They also recommend using a sub-sonic filter. Ported enclosures typically provide better overall efficiency than sealed so they are suitable for use with smaller amplifiers, giving you more bass output from a given amount of power.

Free-air Mounting: In addition to being compatible with sealed and ported enclosures, the woofer can be used in free-air applications. A free-air subwoofer is designed to be mounted on a baffle board, which separates the front of the speaker from the back. For instance, you could mount this woofer to a board attached to the rear deck or placed in the trunk against the rear seat. The trunk acts as the enclosure housing the subwoofer. Because there is no specific volume of air to stiffen the suspension, the free-air power handling is approximately half that of the woofer in a box, in this case 225 watts RMS.

Specifications

Thiele-Small Parameters: Because the woofer has two impedance settings, there are two sets of Thiele-Small parameters:

DC Resistance (Ω) 2.58 4.92
Inductance (mH) 1.444 1.28
Vas (liters) 12.81 13.1
Qms 4.516 2.888
Qes 0.825 0.866
Qts 0.697 0.666
Fs (Hz) 43.1 42.8
Radiating Area (cm²) 330.06 330.06

Q
So I have a older amp it's a Sony xplod xm 1252gtr I'm wanting to get at least one 10" sub possibly two to put in my new 2024 civic sport I'm leaning towards these stadiums or the Sony es subs which do you think would be the best combo to run on my older amp, and what kind of box would I need?
roy  Mar 22, 2024
1 answer
A
Greetings Roy. Your XM-1252GTR is a 2 channel amp that would need to be bridged to mono to run subs. It will put out only 340 watts at that point, and your sub would need to be ran at 4 ohms. You can run one Stadium sub at 4 ohms with that amplifier, and it will still be a bit under what the sub can take. Might want to think about a new amplifier if you wanted to run two subs. Please contact one of our advisors at 800-324-9695 for assistance.

Q
Do I need an amplifier for use this with factory radio?
rodriguez  Jan 06, 2023
1 answer
A
Absolutely, Ronald. This JBL Stadium 102SSI puts out some serious bass, and it is not capable of functioning on the relatively lower power of factory radios. The JBL Club A600 in the link below has speaker-level inputs to connect to your factory radio, as well as plenty of power to drive the 102SSI subwoofer! Make sure to grab the matching wiring kit in the second link below as well to properly power and ground the JBL amp. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_109CL600A/JBL-Club-A600.html https://www.crutchfield.com/p_007CK8/Crutchfield-CK8.html

Q
What is the best Jbl amp that would power 1 sub?
juan  Jan 02, 2023
1 answer
A
The JBL Stadium 600 would be the JBL amplifier best suited for powering a single Stadium 102SSI. Here's a link to that amplifier: www.crutchfield.com/p_109STAD6M/item.html
