Quality and affordability

Great bass usually depends on your wallet, as a nice sub and powerful amp can cost serious cash. Now JBL steps up with some help for the bass-hungry, designing their affordable Stage subs to help you get strong bass when your bank account's a little weak.

Excellent power handling

The Stage 82AM features a polypropylene cone for enhanced stiffness, supported by a high-roll rubber surround that'll stand up the abuses of life in your ride. It'll handle up to 200 watts RMS, and it works equally well in sealed or ported enclosures, so you can get the kind of bass you want.

Reliability

The 1-1/2" voice coil contributes to this sub's impressive power handling, while airflow from the cone's movement cools the voice coil for exceptional reliability. And, speaking of reliable, JBL puts these subs through a rigid testing process that includes baking, freezing, and blasting them with power for days on end, all so that you never have to worry.

Enclosure Recommendations

Sealed Box: JBL recommends a sealed enclosure with an internal volume of 0.35 ft³. Sealed enclosures provide the most control over a woofer and provide accurate sonic reproduction, making them suitable to all types of music.

Ported Box: JBL recommends a ported enclosure with an internal volume of 0.42 ft³ using one 1.97" diameter x 6.7" long port, resulting in a tuning frequency of 50 Hz. They also recommend using a sub-sonic filter. Ported enclosures typically provide better overall efficiency than sealed so they are suitable for use with smaller amplifiers, giving you more bass output from a given amount of power.

Free-air Mounting: In addition to being compatible with sealed and ported enclosures, the woofer can be used in free-air applications. A free-air subwoofer is designed to be mounted on a baffle board, which separates the front of the speaker from the back. For instance, you could mount this woofer to a board attached to the rear deck or placed in the trunk against the rear seat. The trunk acts as the enclosure housing the subwoofer. Because there is no specific volume of air to stiffen the suspension, the free-air power handling is approximately half that of the woofer in a box, in this case 100 watts RMS.

Band Pass: JBL also recommends prefabricated band-pass enclosures. Band-pass enclosures often provide the most output available from any amplifier and subwoofer combination, but at the expense of sonic accuracy.

Q
What amp would best power this sub in a 2020 sxt charger and what side would the Amp be best to connect to for pulling the sound?
[ Mickswole  May 15, 2023 ]
1 answer
A
Greetings Michael, and thank you for your question. If this is going into the factory enclosure, all you would need is a 200 watt amp at 4 ohms, amp wiring kit, and a processor to restore the bass factory radios take out. We will have a few amplifiers that would work with this subwoofer. For the best recommendation, please call one of our advisors at 800-324-9695.

Q
Will this fit in rear deck on 06 civic coupe?
[ AJose  Mar 16, 2023 ]
1 answer
A
This sweet JBL Stage 82AM is not an easy fit in your 2006 Civic, Josea. We actually only have a few subwoofers that are due to the tight space. I would suggest the Audiofrog GS8ND2 GS 8" subwoofer in the link below. This speaker is essentially designed to be the perfect OE sub replacement for a number of vehicles. This has the same dual-coil design and 2-ohm impedance as your original subwoofer, so it is sure to perform well! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_898GS8ND2/Audiofrog-GS8ND2.html

Q
What type of amp wattage would be ideal for this sub?
[ Sebastian  Jan 03, 2023 ]
1 answer
A
If only using one sub, the sub can handle up to 200 watts rms at 4 ohms. A mono amp or a 2 channel amp (bridged at 4 ohms) would work. You'll just want to make sure not to exceed 200 watts rms total at 4 ohms.

Q
Will 600 watts blow the speakers?
[ JIMMY  Jan 14, 2022 ]

A
Yes, the most the will handle is about 200 watts RMS.

Not familiar with your vehicle but if you have a a 7 1/16 in. hole ,4 1/4 in. deep and window clearence should be ok. Cruthfield does have better choices though. Enter

Click on the "Details" tab and scroll down to "Enclosure Recommendations", where you'll see it's compatible with Sealed,Ported, Free-Air, and BandPass enclosure types.

A
The short answer is yes. However, best performance will be experienced in a sealed or ported enclosure . We recently installed this subwoofer in a 2002 Lexus SC430 in the factory location behind the rear seating. It is not a sealed or ported enclosure. The space behind the woofer is open space. Only sealed off by the car structure itself. It is definitely a nice woofer.
