Show up for the screen, stay for the premium earbuds
The JBL Tour Pro 2 earbuds include a touchscreen charging case that gives you control over music, noise cancellation, and more.
You could look at the JBL Tour Pro 2 earbuds in one of two ways: earbuds with a cool touchscreen case that happen to be terrific, or top-notch earbuds that happen to have a handy touchscreen case. Either way, the complete package is an all-around great choice for travel, work, workouts, and more. I've used these sweatproof earbuds as my day-to-day headphones for about a month and they check all the right boxes — long battery life, above-average noise cancellation, and well-tuned, linear sound with quick, powerful bass punch.
And then there's the eye-catching, headline-grabbing touchscreen case. I found it more useful and convenient than I expected — the case let me play, pause, and skip tracks, adjust volume, choose from different sound settings, select the level of noise cancellation or ambient sound, and more. I could swipe through a plethora of features and settings with my phone out of reach, plus keep tabs on the battery life at a glance.
Strong, reliable wireless connection
The initial pairing with my Android phone was straightforward. Once I was synched up, the earbuds would automatically connect as soon as I snapped open the case. You can use both earbuds together or one at a time in mono mode. And "multipoint connection" allows you to pair to two devices simultaneously — so you can move back and forth from your laptop and phone.
The earbuds connect to your devices via Bluetooth 5.3 — a newer, more reliable version of the popular wireless technology. At work, I could leave my phone on my desk and roam around our open-space office and down the long hallway without dropouts.
The JBL Tour Pro 2's built-in mics and processors also help ensure phone calls are clear.
Adaptable and effective noise-canceling circuitry
JBL uses a series of built-in mics and advanced algorithms to "read the room" then adjust the amount of noise cancellation in real time. Using my usual lawn mower test, I found the noise-canceling circuitry highly effective. I'd put it a notch below the top-tier level of the Bose QC Earbuds II and Sony WF-1000XM4s, but I was still able to mow the grass and listen to podcast conversations at low volume levels.
More on-the-go controls and mobile app
Along with the touchscreen case, there are a few other ways to control these earbuds. You have touch control on the earbuds themselves and the free, downloadable JBL Headphone app. It's available for Apple® and Android™.
The app gives you more fine control over noise cancellation, ambient modes, and sound settings. It also opens up more features, including JBL's Personi-fi 2.0. This personal sound calibration checks your fit and assesses your hearing profile, then tailors the sound accordingly.
Listening impressions: well-tuned sound with detail and thump
JBL has developed a distinct sound signature, honed over the years by exhaustive user testing. This special balance of frequencies known as the Harman Target curve has been scientifically proven to satisfy most listeners — and informs the sound of these headphones. Out of the box, the Tour Pro 2 offers an overall linear sound, with a touch of extra muscle in the bass.
These earbuds delivered enough thump to keep the head nodding through the hazy hip-hop accompaniment of El Michels Affair & Black Thought's "Miracle." Still, the emcee's flow blends seamlessly with the funk-fused boom-bap of the backing band. The bass had strong presence but wasn't overbearing. And I never got that dreaded "rapping over a backtrack" effect that you hear when certain frequencies are overemphasized.
Soaring sound for spatial audio, too
The JBL sound signature also worked well for Apple Music spatial audio tracks mixed for Dolby Atmos. On the epic Atmos mix of Henry Brandt's Ice Field, the sonic scope and directionality were uncanny.
JBL's "Spatial Sound" settings allowed me to add even more width to certain tracks.
Through low-profile earbuds, I was able to grasp the full magnitude of this sprawling symphony hall with orchestra members strategically placed around the building. JBL's accurate, linear tuning is crucial for delivering the proper sound localization cues for our ears and brains.
You pick up all those subtleties that give you a sense of the space, and "where" instruments and vocals are located. And the music doesn't have to be on a scale that grand. I was taken by the intimate Atmos mix of the debut boygenius record, particularly the Phoebe Bridgers-led track, "Emily I'm Sorry." Haunting harmonies occupy the bulk of the soundstage, while minimalist instrumentation fills in the gaps.
With these earbuds, the gentle, yearning, yet biting lead vocals dagger toward me from the center. When Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker join in, it's as if they're standing on either side of my head, turned 90 degrees. A chamber music effect on their voices helps stretch out the overall presentation, but still preserves the claustrophobic urgency and immediacy of the song.
Long-lasting battery life
You get about eight hours of listening and noise cancellation on a single charge, which is pretty strong battery life for true wireless earbuds. The case banks up to 30 hours of power to recharge the earbuds on the move. And to me, the ability to see the percentage of battery life left for each earbud and the case right on its screen was — yet another — game changer.

Features
Overview: The JBL Tour Pro 2 ear buds are true wireless in-ear headphones with no connecting cables. Each ear bud has a built-in rechargeable battery, plus controls for power, music playback, phone calls, and activating your favorite voice assistant. The ear buds feature Adaptive Noise Cancelling with Smart Ambient. Tour Pro 2 ear buds come with 3 pairs of ear tips, a charging cable, and a hard, flip-top smart charging case.
Drivers: The JBL Tour Pro 2 ear buds are equipped with 10mm dynamic drivers that deliver the JBL Pro Sound with a wide frequency range of 20Hz-20kHz.
JBL Spatial Sound: JBL's proprietary Spatial Sound gives you an immersive listening experience that feels like you're in a theater, concert, or studio with the artists. JBL Spatial Sound works from any device or source you are using.
Bluetooth 5.3: The ear buds connect to your smartphone or tablet via Bluetooth version 5.3. The ear buds support A2DP (v1.3.2), AVRCP (v1.6.2), and HFP (v1.7.2). When you remove the ear buds from the charging case, they automatically enter pairing mode. Replacing them in the charging case powers them off. Dual Connect + Sync connects your device to both ear buds at the same time. Google's Fast Pair immediately pairs the Tour Pro 2 to your Android device, while Microsoft's Swift Pair instantly pairs the headphones to your Windows 10 and up laptop. Multi-point connection capability lets you pair to up to 2 devices and easily switch between them.
Stereo / Mono Modes: The Tour Pro 2 lets you pair both the left and right ear buds to your device for stereo mode. You can also choose to pair either the left or right ear bud to operate in mono mode.
6 Microphones: Each ear bud has three built-in microphones. Two mics are dedicated to noise sensing, allowing the True Adaptive Noise Cancelling feature to adjust to your surroundings. All of the microphones work together to help you make Perfect Calls, even in loud or windy conditions. Voice Aware lets you choose how much of your voice you want to hear in the earbuds. The adjustment takes place in the JBL Headphones app.
Voice Assistants: The Tour Pro 2 is compatible with a wide variety of digital Voice Assistants. You can activate your smartphone's built-in voice assistant like Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, Siri, and Bixby to get the weather forecast, set timers, play music, or a host of other activities. Activation of your Voice Assistant can be done by pressing a button on your ear buds, through the JBL Headphones app, or by using your voice.
Adaptive Noise Cancelling / Ambient Aware / TalkThru: The Adaptive Noise Cancelling (ANC) and Ambient Aware features let you choose whether you want to shut out your environment or connect to it. ANC lets you focus on your music or just enjoy the silence by eliminating noise from your surroundings. Microphones pick up ambient noise and ANC applies an equal-but-opposite audio signal to cancel that noise. If you want to be more aware of your surroundings, you can enable Smart Ambient, which take the sounds of your surroundings and send them into the earphones. Using the Personal Sound Amplification feature in the JBL Headphones app, you can adjust the left/right balance and amplify ambient sounds +15-20dB. You'll be able to listen to public announcements, or just hear what's going on around you, without removing your ear buds. The TalkThru feature simply lowers the level of the music in your earphones to let you talk to your friends without removing the ear buds.
Silent Now: If you just want to enjoy the quiet, the Silent Now feature turns off music playback and Bluetooth, leaving on ANC to quiet your surroundings. To enable Silent Now, hold the touch pad of both ear buds simultaneously for 5 seconds. To disable, hold the touch pad of either ear bud for 5 seconds.
Controls: The JBL Tour Pro 2 features basic phone, music playback, and Voice Assistant controls on each ear bud. You can also activate ANC, Ambient Aware, and TalkThru. Advanced controls are available on the smart charging case, and through the JBL Headphones app, including assigning custom controls to each ear bud.
Auto Play/Pause: During music playback, the music automatically pauses when you remove one or both ear buds from your ears. To resume playback, replace the ear buds into your ears. Auto Play/Pause can be enabled or disabled in the JBL Headphones App.
Smart Charging Case: The new Smart Charging Case lets you control your ear buds without taking out your phone. It has a 1-1/4" x 5/8" touch screen with basic playback and phone controls, volume control, and buttons to activate ANC, Ambient Aware, and TalkThru. You can accept or reject incoming calls, and receive notifications and messages from your phone. In the JBL Headphones App, you can customize the Smart Case settings and shortcuts. Indicators at the top of the screen let you monitor the battery status of each ear bud and the charging case. There's even a selection of lock screen wallpaper views to choose from.
JBL Headphones App: The JBL Headphones App, available for iPhone / iPad (with iOS 11.0 or later) and Android (7.0 and up), lets you customize your listening experience. Through the app, you can set up your Voice Assistant with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant, or the Native Voice Assistant to your phone. You can activate and adjust the Adaptive Noise Cancellation, Ambient Aware, and TalkThru features. The app's Custom EQ provides three preset EQ curves (Jazz, Vocal, Bass) or you can adjust the 10-band EQ to personalize your sound the way you like it. The app also checks the fit of your ear tips and helps you find the optimal wear position. If you misplace your ear buds, the "Find My Buds" will help you find them by sending a "ring" notification. You'll be alerted in the app when software updates become available, and you can download them to the headphones.
Rechargeable Batteries: Each of the JBL Tour Pro 2 ear buds contains a 3.85-volt 70mAh Lithium-ion polymer rechargeable battery. The charging case contains its own 3.8-volt 850mAh rechargeable battery. The ear buds provide up to 10 hours of continuous music playback (ANC off), or 8 hours with ANC on. With True Adaptive ANC on, playback time is approximately 6 hours. Talk time is 6 hours (ANC off) and 5.5 hours (ANC on). The charging case adds another 3 full charges, or up to 40 hours of total combined playback time with ANC off, or 32 hours with ANC on. The ear buds charge in the case in approximately two hours in the provided case with the supplied USB-C cable. A 15-minute quick charge gives you approximately 4 hours of playback time. The charging case also features wireless charging on a Qi-compatible charging pad.

Solid sounding pair of earbuds with the app & case allowing for multiple setting adjustments. Only minor drawback is getting a good seal on both ears. Music sounds excellent.
