    Touchscreen + Steering Wheel Control

8" Capacitive Touchscreen Monitor: The Jensen CAR813 includes a large 8" capacitive touchscreen LCD monitor with LED backlight and a resolution of 1,152,000. The large display is easy to see and navigate. The large touchscreen display maximizes your driving experience by making it easy to navigate and manage your music and apps effortlessly with the utmost convenience. The 8" touchscreen monitor attaches and plugs into the front of the CAR813's separate source unit which mounts in a standard single-DIN (2") or double-DIN (4") opening in a variety of vehicles. The 8" touchscreen monitor also conveniently detaches from the separate source unit to deter theft.

    • Angle & Position Adjustment: The touchscreen monitor is adjustable allowing you dial it in to the perfect angle and position for your particular installation application. The included hardware locks the screen at the customized angle prior to final installation. The screen angle can pivot side-to-side (+/-15 degrees), as well as tilt forward and back (+/-25 degrees). The mounting height of the screen can also be adjusted up and down (from 3.125" above the top of the chassis and 0.75" below the bottom of it to 1.0" above the top of the chassis and 3.0" below the bottom of it for a single-DIN installation; or 1.125" above the top of the chassis and 0.75" below the bottom of it to 1.0" below the top of the chassis and 3.0" below the bottom of it for a double-DIN install). The 8" touchscreen monitor measures 8.105" (w) x 5.705 " (h) x 1.765" (d).
    • Screen Settings: You can choose between 3 preset background wallpapers for the 8" touchscreen monitor. You can set the LCD monitor's dimmer mode to Auto, Day, or Night. The Day mode brightens the display, while the Night mode dims the display. Auto mode changes the brightness level from Day or Night automatically when you turn on and off your vehicle's headlights. The orange illumination wire of the harness must be connected to your vehicle's headlamp circuit. You can also manually adjust the touchscreen monitor's brightness level.
    • Parking Brake Detection: For safety reasons, you cannot view a video source on the touchscreen monitor as long as the vehicle is in motion. In order to display video, the parking brake wire of the harness must be connected to the vehicle's parking brake light circuit, and the vehicle's parking brake must be engaged. The parking brake wire must also be connected and the parking brake engaged for certain setup functions and menu options. While your vehicle is in motion (parking brake off), you can still view most of the head unit's menu screens/settings; as well as source information, metadata, album artwork, CarPlay, and Android Auto.

Single- or Double-DIN Source Unit: The included source unit can be installed in either standard single-DIN (2") opening or double-DIN (4") open in variety of vehicles. Once the source unit is mounted in the dash, the 8" touchscreen monitor attaches and plugs into the front of the source unit using the integrated connector All of the CAR813's inputs and outputs are found on the rear-panel of the source unit and not on the touchscreen monitor.

    • Applicable kit, harness, adapters, etc. will be required and sold separately for your vehicle.
    • The Jensen CAR813 may not fit in some vehicles due to its large 8" touchscreen monitor interfering with your vehicle's factory equipment on the dash.

Hard-Key Controls: In addition to its 8" LCD touchscreen, the Jensen CAR813 offers front-panel hard-key controls that consist of a 3-way rotary knob and 4 push-buttons that operate frequently used functions such as Power On/Off, Volume Up/Down, Source Selection, Voice Commands, and Menu. You can choose between 6 preset colors (Red, Amber, Green, Blue, Purple, and White) for the button illumination.

Optional Steering Wheel Control: The head unit features a SWC (steering wheel control) input which lets you keep your vehicle's factory radio steering wheel remote controls when used with an optional steering wheel control adapter (sold separately).

Beep Tones: An audible beep tone confirms each function selection. The beep tone can be disabled/enabled in the Setup Menu.

    Android Auto & Apple CarPlay

Wired or Wireless Android Auto: The Jensen CAR813 digital multimedia receiver supports Android Auto with select Android smartphones using a wireless or wired connection. A Google or Samsung smartphone with Android OS 10.0+ or any smartphone with Android OS 11.0+ and 5GHz WiFi can utilize Android Auto Wireless with the Jensen receiver using the latest version of the Android Auto app, plus a WiFi and Bluetooth connection. Android smartphones running Oreo 8.0 or newer can also be hardwired to the Jensen receiver via USB and Bluetooth. Android Auto brings the most useful apps of your Android smartphone to the Jensen in-dash receiver, making it easier for you to keep your main focus on driving. You can control things like navigation maps, phone calls, text messages, music, and more using the head unit's touchscreen or your voice and Google Assistant. With large touchscreen icons, a simplified user interface, and the Google Assistant, it's designed to minimize distraction so you can stay focused on the road. Click here to learn more about Android Auto and to see what phones are compatible

    • Google Assistant: With Google Assistant on Android Auto, you can keep your eyes on the road and your hands on the wheel while using your voice to help you with your daily commute. Simply say, "OK Google" or press the mic button to activate the Google Assistant. Use the Google Assistant to make a call, send a message, reply to a message, get driving directions, or listen to music.
    • Navigation Maps: Use Google Maps to get where you're going with on-screen maps, voice-guided navigation, live traffic information, lane guidance, and more. You can use the unit's touchscreen or Google Assistant to select your destination and route. If you prefer, you can switch over to a simpler version of the community-based Waze navigation app (version 4.27 or higher).
    • Calls & Messages: Android Auto's Google Assistant lets you stay connected while you're driving. The Google Assistant lets you use voice commands to call phone numbers and your favorite contacts, as well as read-reply-send text messages; all while keeping your hands on the wheel.
    • Music Apps: Android Auto gives you access to your Android smartphone's music library via YouTube Music. You'll be able to browse music like you do on your smartphone with song/artist information display and album art. Use the receiver's touchscreen or the Google Assistant to select songs, artists, albums, or playlists. You also get access to select music apps on your Android smartphone; including Amazon Music, Tidal, Pandora, Spotify, iHeart Radio, Slacker Radio, Tune-In, and more. Music apps include song and station browsing, plus song/artist information and album art or station logo. Click here for a list of all compatible app for Android Auto.

    Notes:

    • The initial setup for Android Auto requires that your vehicle be stopped and in park or have the parking brake engaged.
    • If you choose to use a wired connection, make sure to use the USB port labeled "CarPlay/Android Auto" and a USB cable that is under 6' long and avoid using any extension cable.
    • Any other devices connected via Bluetooth will be disconnected during Android Auto use.
    • You can only connect one Apple CarPlay or one Android Auto device at a time (cannot connect both).

Wired or Wireless Apple CarPlay: Apple CarPlay is a smarter, safer way to use your Apple iPhone in your vehicle. Your iPhone can be connected to the Jensen CAR813 wirelessly via WiFi + Bluetooth, or hardwired via USB. An iPhone 6S or newer (running iOS 9.0+) is required for a wireless connection, while an iPhone 6S or newer (running iOS 7.1+) is required for a hardwired connection. CarPlay takes the things you want to do with your iPhone while driving and puts them right on the display of the in-dash receiver. You can use the head unit's touchscreen or your voice and Siri to get directions, make calls, send and receive messages, and listen to music - all in a way that allows you to stay focused on the road.

    • Maps: Apple Maps will be mirrored on the screen, including traffic information and estimated time to destination. Use the head unit's touchscreen or ask Siri to get turn-by-turn directions. You can search by address, favorites, recents, points-of-interest, and more. CarPlay can even predict where you most likely want to go using addresses from your email, text messages, contacts, and calendars. You can also choose to navigate via Google Maps or Waze instead of CarPlay. Google Maps and Waze do not support Siri voice control, but will have their own proprietary voice control function which has to be accessed through a touchscreen icon on the receiver.
    • Phone: Use the head unit's touchscreen or ask Siri to make calls, return missed calls, and listen to voicemail messages. Caller ID information will be displayed on the receiver's touchscreen. You'll carry on your side of the conversation through the included microphone, while the other party is heard through your vehicle's speakers.
    • Messages: Ask Siri to send, read, and reply to text messages. This hands-free operation minimizes distraction and allows you to keep hands on the wheel and eyes on the road. Text messages cannot be read or typed from the head unit's touchscreen to prevent driver distraction.
    • Music: You can access music by artist, song, playlist, and more through the receiver's touchscreen or via Siri. The receiver will display artist/song/album information (including album art in the background). You can access your iPhone's iTunes music library, as well as Apple Music. In addition, you can access other music apps that you have on your iPhone; including Amazon Music, Tidal, Pandora, Spotify, iHeart Radio, TuneIn Radio, SiriusXM, Slacker Radio, & more.
    • Apple HomeKit: CarPlay now supports control of Apple HomeKit enabled devices (sold separately) through Siri. Using CarPlay in your vehicle, you can ask Siri to close or open your garage door, turn on or off home lighting, increase or decrease the temperature of your  thermostat, as well as control select functions of other Apple HomeKit enabled devices and appliances. Click here for a list of compatible Apple HomeKit products.
    • Other Applications: In addition to navigation and music apps, Apple CarPlay supports a variety of other applications ranging from Podcasts, Audiobooks, Sports, News, Weather, and More.

    Notes:

    • If you choose to use a wired connection, make sure to use the USB port labeled "CarPlay/Android Auto" and an Apple Certified cable that is under 6' long.
    • When CarPlay is in use, the unit's Bluetooth will turn off automatically and hands-free phone functionality will operate through CarPlay. Any other devices connected via Bluetooth will be disconnected during CarPlay use.
    • You can only connect one Apple CarPlay or one Android Auto device at a time (cannot connect both).

GPS Antenna: The included GPS antenna must be installed for wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay to function. The GPS antenna can be mounted inside the front of vehicle on the dash.

Cellular & Data Plan Requirements: Access to CarPlay and Android Auto apps will depend on the availability of a cellular and/or WiFi network for purposes of allowing your iPhone or Android smartphone to connect to the Internet. Your compatible Apple or Android device will need an active Data Plan account with connection to the Internet via 3G, EDGE, LTE (4G), or WiFi.

Smartphone Charging: The Jensen CAR813 will also charge your Android Auto compatible Android smartphone or Apple CarPlay compatible iPhone while connected via the rear-panel USB (5V/2.1A) with the vehicle's ignition switch set to the 'ACC' or 'On' position.

    Built-in Bluetooth

Bluetooth Technology: The Jensen CAR813 is equipped with built-in Bluetooth 5.0, allowing you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver; as well as stream music wirelessly from your smartphone to the head unit. In order to use Bluetooth wireless technology, your phone must also be Bluetooth compatible and be able to interpret certain profiles. This unit is compatible with the following Bluetooth Profiles:

    • Hands-Free Communication: HFP (Hands Free Profile), PBAP (Phone Book Access Profile).
    • Audio Streaming: A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile), AVRCP (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile).

Multi-Device Pairing: Before using the unit's Bluetooth functions, you must pair your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone or audio device to the CAR813. You can pair up to five Bluetooth-enabled devices to the Jensen head unit, but only one can be used at a time. When an already paired Bluetooth device is in close proximity to the receiver, the auto connection function automatically connects the device and receiver.

Hands-Free Communication (w/ external mic): The CAR813 supports Bluetooth hands-free communication from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone. You can answer and make a call from the head unit's touchscreen, so you can carry on a phone conversation hands-free. The included external microphone carries on your side of the conversation while your car's speakers are used to hear the other person.

    • Answering A Call: During an incoming call, the caller's phone number or assigned contact name will be seen on the unit's LCD and a ring-tone will be heard through your car stereo speakers. You can then manually answer the incoming call from the head unit's touchscreen. You can also set the unit to automatically answer an incoming call within 5 seconds. Any audio playback will be muted during a call. You can even reject an incoming call using the CAR813, so the call will revert to your phone's voice mail.
    • Making A Call: You can make a call using the Jensen in-dash head unit's touchscreen controls. Outgoing calls can be made be entering telephone numbers directly via the head unit's touchscreen keypad. You can also make a call from your phone's transferred phonebook using the Jensen CAR813's touchscreen. In addition, you can use the receiver's call log (which consists of dialed numbers, received call, and missed calls) to make a call from the CAR813's touchscreen.

Wireless Audio Streaming: The Jensen CAR813 allows you to play back stored music and music apps from your Bluetooth enabled smartphone, tablet, or audio player. You can control basic music playback functions (Play/Pause, Previous/Next Track) from the CAR813. Advanced music navigation will still need to be done through your Bluetooth mobile device. This unit will also display song/artist/album text information (no album art) from a connected Bluetooth audio device. When an incoming call or outgoing call is in progress from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, audio streaming will be paused so you can take your call. Once the call is finished, your streaming music will resume.

    USB + AV Connectivity

USB MSC Playback: The Jensen CAR813 is equipped with a rear-panel USB-A 2.0 port attached to rear-chassis via 46" cable (labeled "USB/Charging) that supports connection of a USB MSC (mass storage class) device formatted in FAT 16/FAT 32 for playback of a music and audio files. The Jensen CAR813 supports playback of MP3 (up to 320kbps) and FLAC (up to 48kHz) music files. The unit can recognize up to 2000 total files, 200 folders, and 2000 files per folder.

    • Control: During USB playback, you can access a list of all files and folders on a device. You can also control Play/Pause, Previous/Next Track, and Repeat/Random functions.
    • Display: The unit's touchscreen monitor will display song/artist/album information (no album art) of music files loaded on a USB MSC device.
    • Charging: The USB port (5V/2.1A) will charge the battery of a connected electronic mobile device, when the radio and your vehicle is turned on.

    Notes:

    • The USB port labeled "USB/Charging" does not support the connection of USB-hubs or card-readers.
    • The USB port labeled "CarPlay/Android Auto" does not support USB MSC playback.

Dual Camera Inputs: The CAR813 is outfitted with two composite video camera inputs for connecting rear-view and front-view cameras (sold separately - see Accessories Tab) in order to display the areas in front of and behind your vehicle on the head unit's touchscreen. The rear-view and front-view camera feature is meant as a driving aid only; never solely rely on the cameras when maneuvering your vehicle. In addition to using the rear and front cameras, always look around you to make sure everything is clear when driving your vehicle.

    • Backup Camera Input: When an optional backup camera is connected to this unit, the rearview image is displayed on the screen when your vehicle is placed in reverse gear (the Reverse Gear wire of radio's harness must be connected to the reverse light wire of vehicle). Automatic video switching takes approximately 1.1 seconds. The backup camera input can also be accessed manually from the head unit's touchscreen monitor. *The unit does not offer park assist guidelines for the backup camera.
    • Front Camera Input: The front camera input can be accessed from the touchscreen LCD monitor's on-screen menu. The front camera input will display on the digital media receiver's LCD monitor and remain on display until you deactivate the front camera input.

AV Input: The Jensen CaR813 digital multimedia receiver features a rear-panel AV input which consists of a composite video jack and stereo RCA jacks for connecting an external audio/video source, such as a DVD player or game console. In order to display video, the parking brake wire of the harness must be connected to the vehicle's parking brake light circuit, and the vehicle's parking brake must be engaged. *The Jensen CAR813 does not offer an audio/video output.

    Q
I just installed the car813 in my 2017 Passat and the backup camera view is reversed. Is there a way to change this?
    matthew  Jun 16, 2025
    1 answer
    A
If you are having any install issues with your Crutchfield purchased Jensen CAR813 radio Matt, please call our Technical Support hotline with your order number handy and we are happy to help troubleshoot. We provide Technical Support for life with any Crutchfield order. Often times with radios there is a setting in the camera settings menu to flip the image, it could also be labeled as rear camera on/off in the settings menu to provide a left/right image flip. I hope this helps!

    Q
I installed the Jensen car813 into my 2007 4Runner. It received power however, only the buttons illuminate to an orange-yellow blinking color. Screen doesn't turn on. Any suggestions? I'm pretty sure I have everything wired correctly.
    blaize  Jun 11, 2025
    1 answer
    A
It's difficult to determine the exact issue from here, Blaize. If you have double-checked your wiring and are confident it is wired correctly with the proper installation interface for your vehicle, try testing the power connections for the radio with a digital multimeter like the Install Bay 3320 in the link below to make certain you have the right voltage to power up the radio. If you purchased your Jensen CAR813 radio and installation gear from Crutchfield do not hesitate to call our Technical Support hotline with your order number handy and we are happy to help you troubleshoot. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_1203320/Install-Bay-3320.html

    Q
many images of this unit show a wifi antenna. Crutchfield images do not show an antenna but only a plastic cap where it would screw on. the unit I received did not come with a screw on wifi anenna. what is the difference?
    william  May 27, 2025
    1 answer
    A
If your Jensen CAR813 does not include a Wi-Fi antenna William, the Wi-Fi antenna is built-in to the radio. Newer production models of these Jensen CAR813 radios do not have the eternal Wi-Fi antenna included, it is not necessary.

Greetings John. Thank you for your question. There are up and down adjustments that can be made prior to the final install. The details tab on the Jensen CAR813 page will have the approximate travel distances.

    Q
I have a 2010 rubicon, factory sound, is this a simple install and do I have to replace anything else?
    angela  May 16, 2025
    1 answer
    A
This will depend largely on your vehicles trim offerings and what install kit you choose to get with your radio purchase. For details on installation please contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and give you the details on what you will need for an installation.

    Q
Will this fit a 1999 Nissan terrano 2?
    adam  Apr 21, 2025
    1 answer
    A
Hey Adam, since the Terrano was not sold in the US market, we will not have any information on file for it under that name. That being said, from my research, it looks like they just badged it as the Nissan Pathfinder on the US market and assuming there are no changes between the two models, then yes, this Jensen should fit but in there just fine but again when it comes to continent exclusives and imports, your mileage can still vary some.

Under "Details" it says this unit has a second camera input designed for Dash Cam. Which hi-res dash cams are compatible?
    mike840  Jan 17, 2025
    1 answer
    A
Hey Mike, that second camera input on the Jensen is designed for basic forward facing camera that is usually mounted out on the grille or license plate area of your vehicle. Its not a dash camera input that has recording capabilities, but more of a camera you can toggle if you need to see the curb in front of you so you do not run up on it.

    Q
What hi-res dashcams are compatible with the Jensen CAR1013?
    mike840  Jan 17, 2025
    1 answer
    A
Hey Mike, when it comes to dash cams, those are a component that tend to be standalone. There is one exception to that rule with Alpine as they have a dashcam made to integrate with select receivers, but all other dashcams will be their own animal, so you are free to pick the one that gives you the most features and accessibility. We have advisors who can be reached by calling 1-800-324-9695 that can help recommend the best dashcam for your goals.

Can this unit be upgraded to use GPS navigation when no phone signal is available?
    mike840  Jan 17, 2025
    1 answer
    A
Hey Mike, it cannot. You would need to look into a unit that has its own dedicated GPS built into the receiver itself for that kind of flexibility. We have advisors who can be reached by calling 1-800-324-9695 that can help recommend the best receiver for your goals.

what ohm speakers work best with the car 813?
    samuel  Jan 07, 2025
    1 answer
    A
Greetings Sam. Thank you for your question. Aftermarket car stereos can run at 4 ohms minimum. A 4 ohm speaker a the stereo after all the wire would be roughly 5 ohms. A select few 3 ohm speakers after the wire resistance would end up at 4 ohms by the stereo. Nothing under 3 ohms would be recommended.

    Q
what dash cm works best with this?
    alex vander  Dec 14, 2024
    1 answer
    A
Hey Alex, so when it comes to dash cams, those are typically independent to the camera and cannot be integrated into the car radio. The only exception to this rule is there is one Alpine camera we carry that works with certain Alpine radios, but those are the only exceptions. We have advisors who can be reached by calling 1-800-324-9695 that can help recommend the best dash cam for your goals.

    Q
I have a question, I recently got the Jensen 1013, but itâ??s a massive screen for the car itâ??s in, can I leave the housing unit installed and just buy this 8 inch screen one and plug into the current housing unit that came with the 1013?
    shant  Sep 21, 2024
    1 answer
    A
Hey Shant, thanks for the question. So I cannot confirm this will definitely work, judging the pins and the way the receiver works, outside of the screen size, there is nothing in the chassis of the receiver that really separates the 813 from the 1013 so based on that, you should be able to swap the screens out without having to do a full re-install.

HI, I have a 2000 Mercedes CLK430. Is the $122.96 kit the only thing besides the receiver that I need to buy? Can I use the existing amplifier and speakers?
    lawrence l  Sep 16, 2024
    1 answer
    A
Hey Lawrence, I'm guessing you have the Bose audio system since you are looking at that $122.96 kit. If that is the case, then that will be everything you need to install that radio. That kit will retain your cars steering wheel controls and keep that Bose audio system alive. You will need to hardwire the parking brake wire that comes attached to that radio to your parking brake switch on that car but other than that, the kit should cover you for that entire install.

Can it work with the stock speakers on a 2001 jeep Grand Cherokee?
    laiknutz  Jul 15, 2024

Absolutely, Laik. The Jensen CAR813 is a fit and can work with the stock speakers with either the Infinity or non-Infinity factory audio packages in your 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The link below contains the radio and installation bits to work for either trim level, keeping your steering wheel control buttons working if you have them! https://www.crutchfield.com/I-rXYEc222/cart/EmailCart.aspx?emKey=3421455

Does this fit in a Honda odyssey (2005-2009)? The head unit is recessed a bit and I want to make sure I can still tilt this towards the driver but it is hard to say how much it sticks out.
    luther  Jul 08, 2024
    1 answer
    A
This will depend largely on your vehicle as it looks like there are a couple of trim changes. For details on installation please contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and give you the details on what you will need for an installation.

My friend has a 2011 Acura MDX base model, with no big screen, this would work good/ compatible for his car?, I put the filters and everything seems fine but lookin for reassurance before recommending this product to him.
    edwin  Jul 03, 2024
    1 answer
    A
The Jensen CAR813 does physically fit into the dash of your friends 2011 Acura MDX Edwin, but requires a significant amount of work to install. You'll need to bypass your factory amplifier. Run new speaker wires from the new stereo to the amp location, and splice them into the factory speaker wires at the output side of the amp. You'll also need to change the factory low-impedance speakers to aftermarket. When you replace your factory radio, the center dash channel speaker will no longer work. The wiring harness only supplies the constant power, accessory power, ground, and dimmer connections so you'll need to splice all the other connections. If you plan to bypass the factory amp, we recommend replacing your vehicle's low-impedance speakers with standard 4-ohm aftermarket speakers to avoid damaging your new radio. However, if you want to keep your factory speakers, you'll need to add a small aftermarket amplifier. When you replace your factory radio, the factory subwoofer will no longer work.

Hello. I see how I can dim the brightness for both day (headlights off) and night (headlights on). However, it's still bright on the night setting even when turned all the way down. Any other option to adjust that I am missing?

If you have adjusted using the dimmer icon in the column on the left of the touch-screen Mike, that would be the only available brightness settings on the Jensen CAR813.
