Apple CarPlay: Apple CarPlay is the smarter, safer in-vehicle interface to operate your iPhone (iOS 7.1+) with Lightning-connector. Your iPhone must be connected to the Kenwood receiver's USB port via the Lightning-cable that came with your Apple device or an Apple Certified Lightning-to-USB cable (sold separately). You can control CarPlay from the Kenwood receiver's touchscreen controls or use Siri to control to control CarPlay with just your voice. You'll be able to use CarPlay to get directions, make phone calls, listen to voice mails, send/receive text messages, select music, and even control Apple HomeKit compatible devices in a way that keeps you focused on the road ahead.

  • Navigation Maps: The power and simplicity of Apple Maps comes to your dashboard; complete with turn-by-turn direction, traffic conditions, and estimated travel time. You can enter a new destination or choose a favorite or recent destination using the head unit's touchscreen or by simply asking Siri. CarPlay can also predict where you most likely want to go using addresses from your email, text messages, contacts, and calendars. If you have iOS 12.0 or newer on your iPhone with the latest version of Google Maps or Waze, you can choose to navigate via the Google Maps or Waze application instead of Apple Maps. Google Maps and Waze do not support Siri voice control, but will have their own proprietary voice control function which has to be accessed through a touchscreen icon on the receiver.
  • Phone & Messages: You'll be able to make calls, return missed calls, and listen to voicemails through the Kenwood receiver. Siri can also help you do all these things. In addition, Siri can send, read, and reply to your text messages for you; so you never have to look at your iPhone while driving.
  • Music Library: Access your favorite artists, songs, and playlists from Apple Music on your iPhone using the Kenwood receiver's touchscreen. Or, just tell Siri what you'd like to listen to. The head unit's touchscreen will display song/artist information, as well as album art in the background.
  • Apps: CarPlay also supports additional audio apps that you've downloaded to your iPhone for enjoying music, radio, sports, news, podcasts, & audiobooks (subscriptions and fees may apply). Control these apps from the head unit's touchscreen just like you would from your iPhone. Current supported apps include:
  • Apple HomeKit Compatible: CarPlay now supports control of Apple HomeKit enabled devices (sold separately) through Siri. Using CarPlay in your vehicle, you can ask Siri to close or open your garage door, turn on or off home lighting, increase or decrease the temperature of your thermostat, as well as control select functions of other Apple HomeKit enabled devices and appliances. Click here for a list of compatible Apple HomeKit products.

Notes:

  • Bluetooth hands-free phone and wireless music streaming cannot be used while Apple CarPlay is being used with a connected iPhone.
  • Apple CarPlay may not function properly if using an additional USB extension cable.

Android Auto: The Kenwood DVD receiver supports the Android Auto app for Android smartphones running OS Oreo 8.0 or newer. Your compatible Android smartphone must be connected to the Kenwood receiver's rear-panel USB port and the USB cable that came with your smartphone, plus be paired via Bluetooth. Android Auto extends the Android platform into your car in a way that's purpose-built for driving and automatically brings you useful information and organizes it into a simple on-screen interface that is simple to use in the vehicle. It's designed to minimize distraction so you can stay focused on the road ahead. Features of Android Auto include -

  • Google Assistant: The Kenwood receiver enhances your Android Auto experience even more by incorporating Google Assistant using the head unit's external microphone and your car speakers for voice command and text-to-speech, which makes using Android Auto and all of its integrated applications fast, easy, and safe. You will need to press the "mic" button or say "OK Google" to activate the Google Assistant. Use the Google Assistant to make a call, send a message, reply to a message, get driving directions, listen to music, or even control select Google Assistant smartphone enabled devices.
  • Google & Waze Maps: Use Google Maps to get where you're going with on-screen maps, voice-guided navigation, live traffic information, lane guidance, and more. Select your destination by using the head unit's touchscreen or just say where you want to go through the unit's external mic and Google Speech Technology. You can even listen to music from your Android Auto device or other connected source device while using Google Maps. If you prefer, you can switch over to a simpler version of the community-based Waze navigation app (version 4.27 or higher).
  • Phone & SMS: With Android Auto you get access to your contacts and messages through the Kenwood receiver while keeping your eyes on the road. Use the unit's external mic and Google Speech Technology to make a phone call, or have your text-messages read aloud to you while you concentrate on the road ahead; you can even reply to texts via voice command.
  • Music: Access your Android smartphone's music library through the Kenwood receiver via YouTube Music. You'll be able to browse music like you do on your smartphone with song/artist information display and album art. Use the receiver's touchscreen to select songs or just say what song you want to listen to through the head unit's external mic and Google Speech Technology. You also get access to online music and radio stations from Amazon Music, Tidal, Pandora, Spotify, iHeart Radio, Slacker Radio, Tune-In, and more; as well as news, sports and talk radio apps. Music apps include song and station browsing, plus song/artist information and album art or station logo. Click here for a list of all compatible apps for Android Auto.

Notes:

  • The initial setup for Android Auto requires that your vehicle be stopped and have the parking brake engaged, or in park.
  • Bluetooth hands-free phone and wireless music streaming cannot be used while Android Auto is being used with a connected Android smartphone.
  • Use a USB cable that is under 6' long and avoid using any extension cable other than the one supplied.

Android Smartphone Mirroring: Using the Mirroring OA for Kenwood app, you can mirror the content from your Android (OS 7.0+) smartphone onto the touchscreen monitor of the Kenwood DDX5707S; you'll be able to enjoy video and audio playback. Your compatible Android smartphone must be connected to the DDX5707S via USB and Bluetooth. The Kenwood receiver's light green wire (attached to rear chassis) must also be attached to your vehicle parking brake circuit and your vehicle's parking brake must be engaged in order to mirror content from your Android smartphone to the DDX5707S. In addition to mirroring content from your Android smartphone, you'll also be able to control your Android device from the in-dash receiver's touchscreen (some content may not support touchscreen control from the receiver). Mirrored content may or may not display in a portrait or landscape orientation.

Notes:

  • You must indicate that you will be using your connected Android smartphone for USB Mirroring and not Android Auto within the Kenwood receiver's on-screen menu.
  • The unit does not support audio playback from Android devices using MTP (Media Transport Protocol) or AOA (Android Open Accessory).
  • The Kenwood DDX5707S does not support Apple iOS device mirroring.

Cellular & Data Plan Requirements: Access to CarPlay, Android Auto, and Android Mirroring apps will depend on the availability of a cellular and/or WiFi network for purposes of allowing your iPhone or Android smartphone to connect to the Internet. Your compatible Apple or Android device will need an active Data Plan account with connection to the Internet via 3G, EDGE, LTE (4G), or WiFi.

The touchscreen controls of the DDX5707S can be used to dial a number, answer an in-coming call, or end a call. The unit also includes an external microphone, so you can carry on your side of the conversation while listening to the caller through your vehicles front speakers. During a conversation, you can switch between the Private Mode (talking directly on your phone) and the Hands Free Mode.

  • Answering a Call: When a call comes in, a ring-tone will be heard through your vehicle's speakers and the caller's name or phone number will be displayed. You are able to stream your stored music library on your Bluetooth-enabled smartphone, as well as music apps downloaded on your smartphone to the Kenwood DDX5707S for playback.

Note: When an incoming call or outgoing call is in progress from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, audio streaming will be paused so you can take your call. Once the call is finished, your streaming music will resume.

External Microphone: The Kenwood DDX5707S includes an external microphone to carry on your side of your phone conversation and voice command dialing. The external wired microphone offers improved audio quality versus an integrated microphone, so you can be heard easier over noisy traffic and road noise. The external microphone features an attached 10' cable terminated by a right-angle 3.5mm connector which plugs into the mic input on the rear-panel of the head unit. The microphone offers an integrated mounting bracket which can be clipped to your vehicle's sun-visor or taped to your dash.

  • Auto Reload: If the ejected disc is not removed within 15 seconds, the disc is automatically inserted again into the loading slot to protect it from dust; playback starts automatically.
Note: There is no physical front-panel eject button. The eject button is an icon on the touchscreen, which means the unit must be powered on to eject a disc.

This USB port can be used for connection and control of a USB mass-storage class (MSC) device, such as a USB thumbdrive. • High Resolution Audio Playback: The Kenwood DVD receiver supports playback of high-resolution FLAC & WAV music files (up to 24-bit/192kHz) via USB. High-Resolution Audio is high-quality sound that exceeds CD standard. High-resolution audio captures and beautifully expresses all the details of your favorite music.

  • Parking Guide Lines: When a rear-view camera is connected and you are viewing a rear view image, parking guide lines appear on-screen making parking easy and safer. There are three color-coded horizontal guidelines and two vertical guidelines.
  • Rear-View Auto Switching: The video from this connection can be set to display when switched to this input, or display the rear view camera video automatically when the vehicle is shifted into Reverse gear. The purple/white wire (attached to rear-chassis) must be connected to the vehicle's reverse lamp circuit for automatic video switching. Automatic video switching takes approximately 0.8 seconds.

Note: The rear view camera feature is meant as a back-up aid only; never solely rely on the rear-view camera when backing-up. In addition to using the rear-view camera, always look behind you to make sure everything is clear when backing up your vehicle.

Touchscreen + Remote Control

6.75" Capacitive Touchscreen: The Kenwood DDX5707S features a fixed 6.75" widescreen (16:9) capacitive touchscreen LCD with LED backlighting. The LCD touchscreen has a resolution of 800 (H) x 480 (V) x RGB with 1,152,000 total pixels. The capacitive touchscreen LCD provides a high contrast ratio, crystal clear display, and vivid text; as well as highly responsive touchscreen operation. You can make the following adjustments to the head unit's touchscreen display to better fit your application and needs.

  • Home Screen & Shortcut Buttons: The unit's Main Home Screen contains touchscreen icons for all 10 sources and the Settings menu. The Shortcut Home Screen consists of 4 customized sources that you use the most, plus icon selections for the Main Home Screen and Settings Menu.
  • Background Images: There are six preset background images (wallpapers) to choose from; or you can download your own JPEG/PNG/BMP still image (800x600) to use as the unit's background from a connected USB thumbdrive.
  • Screen Adjust: You can adjust the Contrast, Brightness, Color, and Tint of the touchscreen monitor to suit your preference.
  • Dimmer: The illumination dimmer can also be set to Off (normal brightness at all times), On (display is always dimmed), or Sync (dims or brightens when the headlight switch is turned on or off).
  • Clock Display: The DVD receiver offers a 12-hour clock which is visible from any source or menu screen. With your vehicle's key in the accessory or run position, the head unit will continue to display the LCD background image, clock, and button illumination during "AV Off" mode. Pressing the "Power Off" touchscreen icon turns the unit off completely.

Parking Brake Interlock: To prevent the display of video while the vehicle is in motion, the light green wire (attached to rear chassis) must be connected to the vehicle's parking brake detection circuit. You cannot view video unless your vehicle's parking brake is engaged. If you attempt to view video without the parking brake engaged, the unit's LCD touchscreen will simply display a blue screen and "Parking Off". While your vehicle is in motion (parking brake off), you can still view all of the head unit's menu screens/settings, source information, metadata, and album artwork; as well as CarPlay and Android Auto.

Note: The parking brake wire must also be connected and the parking brake engaged for certain setup functions, menu options, and Android mirroring.

Touch-Sensitive, Push Button Controls: In addition to the capacitive touchscreen monitor, the Kenwood DDX5707S offers five touch-sensitive buttons along the left edge of the screen. The button illumination is a fixed white color.

Steering Wheel Controls: The head unit features a factory steering wheel remote control input wire (blue/yellow) within the included wiring harness that lets you keep your vehicle's factory radio steering wheel remote controls when used with an optional steering wheel audio control adapter (sold separately).

Optional Remote Control: The optional Kenwood KNA-RCDV331 IR wireless remote control (sold separately - not available at Crutchfield) is designed to operate this Kenwood head unit. The wireless remote controller operates off of two supplied "AAA" batteries. The remote operates off of IR transmission so the KNA-RCDV331 must be pointed at the front-panel of the Kenwood head unit within direct line of sight.

The Kenwood DDX5707S replaces these items:

Greetings Nicholas. Thank you for your question. Due to the liabilities involved, we can only say a stereo with a parking brake wire needs to be connected to the vehicles parking brake.

You can view DVDs with the Kenwood DDX5707S when your vehicle's parking brake is applied and you are not in motion, Terrence. You could also consider trying the autoplay feature. If you eject a disc and it is not removed within 15 seconds, the disc is automatically inserted again into the loading slot and playback starts automatically. I hope this helps!

The factory camera wiring is proprietary to Toyota radios, and needs to be adapted. For more assistance, please contact one of our advisors at 800-324-9695.

I have this head unit and love it. Looking at purchasing the Kicker 46HS10 to add a little bass to a Jeep. Can these be connected? If so how? I see a RCA Preout? Do I have to use the RCAs and the HighLevel output? Or will this unit not work with a Kicker hideaway?
jed  Jul 26, 2024
1 answer
A
Hey Jed, that Kicker 46HS10 only has speaker level inputs on it. They actually have an adapter that is used to make those high level inputs into RCAs specifically for what you are needing to do. Below will be the Kicker version of that so you can see it, but I'll also have an alternative to show you as well if you are looking to buy sooner rather than later, as the Kicker is on backorder til late August: Kicker: https://www.crutchfield.com/I-rET1c402/p_20646KISL/Kicker-46KISL.html?tp=88134 Rockford Fosgate: https://www.crutchfield.com/I-rET1c402/p_575RFIF2SW/Rockford-Fosgate-RFiF2SW.html?tp=88134

I have this unit installed in a 2012 VW Beetle. When talking on the phone via CarPlay (phone plugged in to unit via lightning cable), there is a terrible echo for the person on the other end. I'm thinking it has something to do with the microphones (car/unit). Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Q
Where does the wire for Iphone come out of the unit? Does it just hang down out of the dash? Also, will the installation kit allow a full install without having to get other adapters, and allow use of steering wheel controls? I don't want to put it in and have limited functionality. Thanks! 2010 Prius BTW.
prius 2010  Jun 16, 2024
1 answer
A
The USB cable for connecting an iPhone is attached to the rear chassis and is at the end of a 39" long cable. One option is to let that cable hang down out of the dash. Other options are to use USB mounts to make it more integrated into the vehicle. An installation kit and wiring interface are needed to install it into the compatible Prius' and we have advisors that can be reached by calling 1-800-324-9695 who can help recommend the best installation parts to get with this receiver to meet your goals

We need to know the exact year, make, model, and specific trim of your vehicle to confirm any details Tyler, but in most cases upgrading the radio will lose functionality of any original disc slots or changers. Since the Kenwood DDX5707S has a DVD/CD drive you can continue to play your discs on the new Kenwood radio!

Now the Kenwood does have Apple Carplay, and Android Auto. Both support the satellite radio app. If the app is on your phone, then you can use that instead of purchasing the extra tuner.

It looks like the package in the link below supports rear seat entertainment retention in your 2010 Ford Expedition, I used the model with Subwoofer and Navigation originally to pair the package as I was unsure of your trim for those features. This package requires some splicing to keep the steering wheel controls functioning and does bypass your SYNC system in favor of the Bluetooth on the new Kenwood radio, great news! https://www.crutchfield.com/I-rXYEc222/cart/EmailCart.aspx?emKey=3145573

Q
We just installed this in our Jeep and we are having issues with it playing sound all the time. Sometimes we can hear the sound on Pandora, and sometimes we cannot. We have no idea why this is happening. We also cannot get the sound to work for reading out texts, or anything else. If we ask Pandora to play a song, the unit will do the work, but we are not hearing the voice. This has been unbelievably frustrating as we paid a lot of money to have it installed and we now just want to return it. We think it has to be plugged in prior to starting the jeep, but that has not been the issue either. Does anybody have any idea why this would be happening? We have searched the menus multiple times for settings but cannot find anything at all that appears to be the issue. HELP PLEASE.

It's absolutely frustrating to have a new radio and it not function properly! As to the sound you are having and what might be causing it, we would probably need a little more information before we could start to figure out what is causing it and how to possibly fix it. If this is something that you had gotten from us, then the direct line for tech support would be on your invoice. If you can't find it then you can still give us a call at 800.324.9695 and one of our experienced advisors can help dive a little deeper into your problem and see what options you have.

How does the aftermarket backup camera know when to come on and display on this unit? Will the unit go right to showing the camera or will I have to toggle thru functions to see it?
jason d  Dec 05, 2022

A
Greetings Toad400, and thank you for your question. Kenwood like all other stereos with a camera input have a reverse trigger wire that needs to be connected from the stereo to the vehicles reverse wire. When the vehicle is put in reverse that signal triggers the Kenwood stereo to switch to the camera input, and back to the previous screen when you shift out of reverse.

Wireless Apple CarPlay?
michiel w.  Oct 26, 2021
1 answer
A
No. You must be tethered by a lightning cable to connect with CarPlay. Even then it is often finicky and disconnects at random times.

It will work on an auxiliary screen but not on the primary screen. That would be completely illegal.
jeff  Feb 11, 2021
A
No. It is set up that you are suppose to wire it to the parking brake, so it knows that the parking brake engaged.

Q
Is the sound quality good? Is it worth it i hear a lot of people argue about the output being to low, does this really matter?
bilbo  Feb 10, 2021
5 answers
A
I love the sound quality, but I also upgraded my factory speakers to Infinity References. I don't have an amplifier or subwoofer so I'm good.
ronnie  Feb 10, 2021
A
Sound quality is good. Power is adequate for my sedan. i also installed a powered subwoofer in the trunk. One thing I knew i would not like is the lack of a volume control knob. its dangerous fiddling with the touchscreen while driving, and small quick volume adjustments are difficult without a knob. I have to look at the radio instead of reach over and touch the volume knob, plus touch area is vague and numb. Also the screen does not dim enough, so now I am one of those dummies driving down dark roads getting blinded by his own radio. Overall nice features, good sound, easy install.
brian  Feb 10, 2021
A
I think the sound is great. However, I drive a full size truck on the freeways a lot so I do have the loudness option on.
william t  Feb 10, 2021
A
I found it to be just as good as the stock unit if not a little better . At the end of the day you may just need new speakers as those impact audio quality the most.

How is the display in daylight?

A
Its good, no glare
jasi  Feb 12, 2021
A
I have had no issues with the unit seems to be bright enough for my aging eyes .
mark  Feb 10, 2021
A
Very adequate
kerry  Feb 10, 2021
A
In glare conditions you can't read anything on the screen, that is when the light in really pouring into my truck. If the sun is say in front of the truck so the radio is in the shade it is quite readable and has a nice display. I don't know but I suspect this is a common problem with all of them. I am not sure I have the brightness turned up all the way though. On mine the screen brightness is not linked to the instrument dimmer so at night it is very bright and almost distracting.

Q
Does it have GPS built in?
john  Jan 20, 2021
3 answers
A
No, but with the use of a smart phone it is easy to mirror your phone screen onto the screen of the Kenwood which makes a built in GPS unnecessary. I give this unit 5 stars out of 5 stars!
joseph  Jan 21, 2021
A
No. But you can use your android or apple phone navigation through the unit. I think this is a much better option because the maps will always be up to date and will have other changing variables like traffic and speed traps.

Does this come with the metal sleeve for installation?
jacob  Sep 30, 2020

A
Yes
rick  Oct 15, 2020
A
Hi Jacob, It does come with a sleeve. I haven't installed it yet because the Ford F150 has to be modified to fit the stereo. If you don't use the sleeve, the additional parts that come with it have brackets you attach to the sides of the stereo and it snaps in. Once it snaps it there's no removing it unless you go in from the top i believe. Hope this helps. Jill
