Fantastic screen! And I love how you can extend it another inch to get it closer to you, makes it a lot safer than leaning over to try and touch it like other screens. It's very responsive and also improved the loudness of my speakers (got aftermarket).
Pros: Resolution Options for future upgrades
Cons: The $$$. But worth it!

Very happy!
Joyotu from Katy, TX on 9/3/2023
2020 Toyota Tundra
I needed to upgrade the stock system in my Toyota tundra 2020, with JBL. This KENWOOD system improved the sound quality significantly, along with the appearance. The 5v pre outputs provide significantly better quality with the external amps that I installed. Crutchfield provided all the harnesses that were needed and I did not have to splice or cut any cables. Crutchfield is the only place, I found after a lot or research, where you can find everything needed for a DIY project like this. The end result is just superb, I am very happy with support provided and the product.
Pros: Big screen, great user interface, amazing sound quality. If you want good sound quality and great appearance, this the product. The customizations options for the cameras, filter bypass, sound affects all are great.
Cons: Comes out bit pricey, but you get what you pay for. Totally worth it.

Excellent with some suggestions...
Rob from Crown Point, IN on 8/22/2023
2015 Chevrolet Silverado 2500/3500
So far, the unit is very good. The video/ display quality is outstanding. Navigating the menus isn't super intuitive but it's not too complicated. It would be nice to be able to edit the shortcut bar (I'd like to remove the Android Auto icon). Moving between apps is not very straight forward but is doable. I'd like to change the screen resolution while in Car Play mode; it seems very zoomed in. I love the actual volume control knob. Fit and finish are excellent. Overall, I'd buy it again.
Pros: Great display, huge screen, swiping between pages is very smooth, having a few buttons and volume knob is great.
Cons: A little pricey, menus aren't very intuitive, requires many supplemental products to simplify installation, satellite radio requires added tuner.

Horrible
Crutchfield customer from SAN DIEGO, CA on 6/11/2023
Defective stereo. Audio system will shut off and resets while playing music. Sent out to FTH Group company for repairs by Kenwood. Is been over 2 months and both kenwood and FTH Group have fail to repair unit. I have emailed and called for a status on the unit with service staff telling to continue checking in 2 more weeks. Horrible experience with kenwood and fth Group companies. Best advise is to purchase in a company where you have the option to be either reimbursed or exchange. Good luck
Pros: Looks nice
Cons: Horrible customer service by kenwood staff.

Avoid
Michael from BOGART, GA on 3/5/2023
You are most likely going to get a unit that has freezing and rebooting issues. I've had this for little over a week and it has only gotten worse as time goes on. Every morning this thing will freeze and reboot. It started at 3 times, then it was fine. Now it is at 7 times. It is very annoying when you are just trying to listen to music. It will lull you into a false sense of security and you will be listening to your music, then it will freeze and scare you by pausing at that last moment of noise, so now you are listening to this and all you can do is wait for it to die and come back to life. Then, you have to hope that it will work now and not freeze again. I'm a little disappointed with something that costs so much money still, hasn't had a firmware update in a year, and you are still getting a product which is defective. I'd spend my money elsewhere. I've read the Boss equivalent is better, though not sure what model exactly.
Pros: Exceptional sound quality and ease of use
Cons: Will most likely be defective out of box.

Great Head Unit, Needs Better Quality Control
Duane from PORTLAND, OR on 1/25/2023
2016 Ram Promaster
The best thing about this purchase has been working with Crutchfield. After my first unit turned out to be defective-more on that in a second-their tech guys were trusting, supportive, and solution-minded. This is an important point to consider, especially when you're spending this much for a head unit. Nobody wants to be stuck with a lemon. Which brings us to Kenwood and the DMX1057XR. You've probably already read plenty of other reviews by now. People love this head unit, and well they should. It's a beautiful thing. Or I should say, it's a beautiful thing if you happen to get a working unit right out of the box (and you probably will). Unfortunately, my first unit suffered from numerous, completely random restarts. Given all the great reviews, I naturally took the blame on myself. This meant wasting far too much of my recent holidays re-wiring and testing and just generally cursing the day I decided to install a new head unit. Also cursing Kenwood once I finally began to realize that these restarts might not be my fault after all. I'm now about a week into running my replacement unit, and so far it seems to be working like a champ. Not a single restart yet, no matter what I throw at it: wireless CarPlay, hands-free phone calls, Google navigation, and steering wheel controls, all running at the same time. I could give it a full five stars-I think it probably deserves it-but after my recent experiences with this very costly unit, I'm feeling generous just to cough up four.
Pros: Fast startup. Fantastic screen. Quick bluetooth pairing for CarPlay (may be phone dependent). Excellent iDatalink integration. Responsive touch screen. Numerous camera inputs.
Cons: Rare restart problems with SOME units out of the factory (covered by warranty). No side-to-side or angled screen adjustments. Tight dash-fit when paired with iDatalink Maestro and wiring harnesses.

The best, but too expensive
Crutchfield customer from Norfolk, VA on 1/11/2023
2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee
The price is ridiculous, but this is my favorite headunit. I'm glad the companies are going back to rotary volume knobs. The screen resolution is great, and not just blocky text stretched out over a large display. Again, the price is atrocious. This is the same price as a very high end iPad or laptop but it does not have the functionality of those devices. Basically it is the same as any $300 KENWOOD double-din headunit but with CarPlay Wireless and a bigger/better screen. KENWOOD is making A LOT of money off these. Really modernizes the interior of my 95 Bronco. Thinking of getting 2 more to replace a standard size KENWOOD double-din in my C5 Corvette and WK1 SRT-8 Grand Cherokee.
Pros: Volume knob, screen size & resolution, CarPlay
Cons: Price

Does fit my 2018 Ford F150, with a little effort.
Matthew from FORT SMITH, AR on 12/19/2022
2018 Ford F-150 Lariat
Item is listed as not fitting my 2018 F150. Which isn't technically wrong. You have to remove a bracket where the stereo will mount. And getting at two of the four bolts is nothing short of a test if patience and will. Once that is done install works as any other double din would. Idatalink Maestro has a video and instructions on how to do this. Fit behind the radio is tight. So be careful when selecting RCA cables. The head unit itself is very nice. Screen, options, menus, controls all work very well. The Idatalink Maestro RR2 was a must for my install and well worth the effort and cost. The sound is far better that the factory head unit can produce. I had been using the stock radio wired to a dsp/amp. The sound was better, but never quite right. This sounded much better right out of the box with a basic tune.
Pros: Excellent head unit. Quality of manufacturing seems very high. Sound quality is leaps beyond the factory unit. Controls, options, Idatalink Maestro integration, screen quality are all top notch. Ability to integrate more cameras and a radar detector are nice.
Cons: Website lists this as not fitting. A quick search will show how this can be done by undoing 4 bolts and pulling a bracket out. So many options and settings will require that you sit down with the manual and do some reading as all settings aren't intuitive. But what modern radio is?

Great sound settings and Android connectivity
Tristan from Idaho Springs, CO on 12/18/2022
2002 Ford F-250 Super Duty
Got a scratch & dent that was in great shape and several hundred dollars cheaper. User friendly interface, good connectivity with my Android phone, and advanced sound settings that make the factory speakers on my 2002 Ford F-250 sound WAY better than with the stock radio. I paid a local shop to install since I also ordered a backup cam, and the installation instructions for that weren't very good.
Pros: User interface, sound settings
Cons: I'm not sure what the mirroring function is for, since the Android Auto function seems to do the same thing. Also, mine didn't come with the full instruction booklet. NBD since I got one online as a PDF.

Awesome Screen and Sound
JP from HOFFMAN ESTATES, IL on 12/9/2022
2014 Ford F-150 XLT
was conflicted about whether to install this myself or let the pros handle it, but Crutchfield made it easy. The new receiver replaced a Ford Sync Generation 2 with a 4.3" screen. Never have I been so happy to throw out a piece of tech as I when I finally rid my truck of the abomination that was Ford Sync Gen 2. Crutchfield provided everything I needed for the install. The Crutchfield ReadyHarness Service was a no-brainer for me. Between it and the Maestro RR, I didn't need to splice a single wire and retained all of my original OEM features (climate, backup cams, steering wheel controls, vehicle alerts, etc.) The instructions that Crutchfield sent for installing the Maestro RR unit contained two similar but different PDF files and they did not indicate which I should be using. Fortunately, as I went thru the Maestro RR software install, it guided me to the correct version online. Crutchfield listed my vehicle as compatible with the head-unit I purchased, but to make it work I had to shift the brackets back so that the display would fit closer to the dash; if I didn't do that it interfered with the gear shifter. In doing so, I had to forgo using some of the screws towards the front of the stereo because the stereo holes would not align with the bracket holes, but I just tightened it around the middle. The dash screws keep keep everything rock solid stable, no shaking whatsoever. Feels like a new car again! Best auto upgrade I've ever done!
Pros: First and foremost no issues with the hardware or software on this unit. I love having CarPlay in my vehicle. The acoustics are fantastic. I love the screen the most, however. It is massive, easily readable even in bright sunlight, and an incredible upgrade when navigating or using the backup camera over the tiny 4" Ford screen. Thanks Kenwood, iDataLink and Crutchfield!
Cons: Took a bit of figuring out how to utilize the brackets to mount the display in a way that would not interfere with the gear shifter.

Software Troubles - Twice / More JVC than Kenwood
Crutchfield customer from Greenville, SC on 11/7/2022
2006 Toyota Tacoma
I ended up going through two of these that had the same issue. No matter which source (Radio, USB, Carplay,...) the screen would freeze, sound would skip/stutter, then the unit would reset. Ended up changing wiring harness, troubleshooting power issues, but problem would persist. Eventually pulled this on a bench and the problem would repeat. Rare that I got two defective units but it happened. Seems to be a software issue. Both units had the latest version already installed. Kenwood technical support wasn't helpful at all. Crutchfield was superb and eventually got me into a unit with no issue - The unit I went with is the same Kenwood hardware/footprint but with navigation and different software DNR1007XR. I've had a previous Kenwood DNX7100 in this same truck for almost 13years. Needed to upgrade to carplay and this nice screen. The JVCKW-Z1000W is the same hardware (no knob) if you haven't noticed. Startup was fast at about 7 seconds for this unit. The DNR1007 loads the navigation and takes about 15 seconds to load up. Both will immediately show your reverse video even during start up. Fit and finish are very good and live up the the Kenwood good will. Software is the killer. Some have had success with this but I spent hours trying to get this to work. You never expect a defective unit and with the nature of these being DIY installs you end up troubleshooting your installation first. I spoke with multiple Crutchfield representatives.
Pros: Carplay integration Voice quality Screen quality size Sound Quality / Settings
Cons: Software / Software / Software Only one USB port Vss Wire - Annoying and troublesome (You get a pop-up if you don't connect this) - with Carplay and phone navigation this shouldn't be needed.

2015 Jeep Wrangler
This is my 3rd Kenwood receiver in my 2015 Jeep JK. The install was pretty easy. Getting all the cables in and behind the unit with the iDatalink was the most difficult part. I installed using the slider in the forward position. I was thinking the standard would limit the screen tilting. I may take it out and reinstall in the standard position to see which one I prefer. Sound quality is great. The most annoying thing is the front camera that engages as you slow down. There does not appear to be a setting to turn that off. I could chose one of the other camera inputs and select the camera when I need it. I love the OEM integration but can't take advantage of all of the features because I removed the UConnect module when I got the first Kenwood HU. I ran the Kenwood USB directly to the center console (same with this unit)
Pros: Supports 4 Cameras Tons of features Huge Screen OEM Integration
Cons: Annyoing warring banner Lack of settings for front camera

Unit is Good. Crutchfield not so much
Guest from Springfield, MO on 8/16/2022
After a few issues installing the unit and initially getting a defective unit, everything seems to be working fine and the unit is performing as advertised. The low star count is more for the quality of customer service I received from Crutchfield. They were helpful in facilitating a return/replacement of the defective unit(after paying an increased cost for a newer model). However, I was still having issues after replacing the unit and contacted support again. I spoke with a rep who was unable to help me with my issues. She told me that she would research the issue and get back to me within 48hrs by phone or email. Needless to say, it's been a week and I still haven't heard anything more from Crutchfield. Thankfully the internet came through for me after a few hours of research.

Installed in 2019 Tundra and very pleased overall. Unit really changes overall feel of the truck. No complaints overall with the unit. Some very minor weirdness at times when you do something like start to backup and camera turns on before the splash screen is complete. Very minor and radio performs very well. I ran an HDMI connection down to OEM USB charging port and replaced with HDMI connection. Streaming video works great assuming you have a good cellular connection. Like others, noticed improvement in overall sound. EQ adjustments are numerous and way more than I would typically venture into. Wireless Apple CarPlay is a game changer. Very convenient. Some apps will crash every once in a while and need to be restarted on the phone; not sure that is a Kenwood issue. GPS location is off briefly occasionally but seems to quickly correct itself (might be my install). Trim kit used for install is not great; all plastic and color/texture is not a perfect match with rest of Tundra trim. Trim kit also susceptible to mounting a little crooked if you dont pay attention to getting it aligned when attaching to radio. Love overall interface and main volume knob. Very pleased with radio itself and only minor complaints would be trim kit and some Apple app issues.
Pros: Really high quality unit, great UI, great enhancement to truck, wireless Apple CarPlay is very convenient, better sound, etc.
Cons: Trim kit is not great

Fits 2019 Tundra - Five stars except Kenwood Traffic Weather app Trash
Crutchfield customer from Houston, TX on 5/2/2022
2019 Toyota Tundra
I give Crutchfield five stars and I REALLY wanted to give this head unit five stars which it totally deserves EXCEPT for the weather widget that works (doesn't work) with the Kenwood Traffic Inrix app. It's absolute trash. Go read the reviews online. It constantly says "No Data Available" even though the app is open on my phone. I keep having to disconnect the app on my phone from the head unit and then reconnect it and then it works. Until I get out of my car and come back again..no data available. Even when it's working the weather is not reliable..the image shows an overcast cloudy sky when I am looking out my window at a bright blue sky with no clouds. Very disappointing for a head unit at this price. Fortunately, I can just change the widget to something else like the Clock or Compass or whatever. Again, just very disappointing and Kenwood has to know about it because so many of their customers have been complaining about it for a LONG time. Apart from this complaint, this head unit is fantastic. The display is beautiful, Android Auto works perfectly and wirelessly, wireless mirroring works perfectly, the sound and EQ are AMAZING, phone app is useful and call audio is great, SiriusXM looks fantastic and is feature-rich, HD Radio works great and is feature-rich. It fits great in my 2019 Toyota Tundra Platinum. It fits perfectly between the vents and I was able to adjust the height so that it doesn't block or even hinder my climate controls. Besides the app I'm happy.
Pros: Great fit in 2019 Tundra Platinum Beautiful HD display, colors rich and vibrant, customizeable Fantastic sound and EQ, many options and features Love the volume knob Android Auto works flawlessly Wireless mirroring works flawlessly SiriusXM looks and works great, many features HD Radio looks and works great, many features BT Phone app useful, calls sounds great
Cons: Weather widget doesn't work Kenwood Traffic/Weather Inrix app is horrible Widgets are gimmicky Clock widget is underwhelming. They missed an opportunity to have a cool looking clock widget.

Outstanding Receiver but Overpriced vs the Competition
Christopher from Greer, SC on 2/1/2022
Let me just cut right to the chase: This would be a five star rating if the price hadn't been bumped up to $1,500. But with the 11" Apline iXL-F511 due out in February with HD screen and audio, this outstanding receiver is way overpriced. That being said, there are very few flaws in this high end receiver. The sound is impeccable, connectivity is rock solid, the UI is well-polished, and the screen is simply gorgeous. I absolutely love having a volume knob after six months of tolerating tiny volume buttons. My minor complaints include no horizontal tilt or lateral adjustment for the screen, the bezels seem a unnecessarily big (especially when compared to the Alpine and Sony receivers), and no speed-compensating volume adjustment. That's it. It's that good a receiver.
Pros: Gorgeous screen Impeccable sound Fluid UI Solid connectivity
Cons: Price vs top Sony and Alpine units Limited screen positioning

Awesome unit, TERRIBLE design flaw!
Jaron from Edwardsville, IL on 4/27/2021
2016 Ford Transit Passenger
This is really a great unit! This was the first stereo I have installed in almost 10 years and it's amazing how far the technology has come. Do yourself a favor and get the idatalink compatible with your vehicle, it's amazing how it integrates with the stereo. WARNING - I only gave this 4/5 stars because of one really STUPID design flaw. The final step of installation is to install a screw cover between the display and the stereo. You have to face the display all the way down to install it, but in my vehicle, the dash comes out, so that isn't possible. Simple enough, I just wouldn't install it, it's just a cover after all. I spent 3 hours troubleshooting my stereo trying to determine why it wouldn't power on. I used Crutchfield's readyharness service, so they did all the wiring, I questioned that. I questioned the fuse in the stereo. Finally I questioned if I just got a DOA stereo. In a last ditch effort, I googled "Kenwood DMX1057XR not powering on" and found a youtube video that explained that if you don't put that stupid screw cover on, the unit will not power on. Sure enough, there is a piece of plastic on that screw cover that compresses something on the connection to give it power! RIDICULOUS! I had to cut out screw holes in the cover, install the display with the cover already on it, and then screw the screen on to get it to work. Kenwood, WHAT WERE YOU THINKING!?!?!?!?
Pros: Wireless Android Auto Apple Car Play Bluetooth XM Radio Ready HD Radio Adjustable 10.1" Screen iDatalink Integration HDMI USB Audio USB connection (from the rear)
Cons: Will not power on without screw cover! No front facing USB Did I mention you have to put on the screw cover just to get power to the unit? WHAT THE HECK?

Expected Better From Kenwood
Andrew from Jacksonville, FL on 4/10/2021
2019 Chevrolet Silverado 2500/3500
For this price you'd expect better from Kenwood. We were shocked to learn that the apple car play is very intermittent. The android auto play was good but we are an apple family and why we chose apple car play. The kenwood performs about what I would expect from a flea market radio on the apple car play. The menus are buggy and poorly laid out. It has a neurotic feel to the layout. If you're an apple an then you will not enjoy the chaotic layout of disabled functions that get in the way of the actual things the radio can do. Three quarters of the functions do not work and or are greyed out. <<-- They shouldn't even be available unless the option exists. Rear cam quality was shotty as well. We ran new wires, changed backup cams with even the kenwood cam but to no avail. However the same cams on a different radio were crystal clear. The bottom line is that this radio is a complete and utter disappointment from a company that our family used to be loyal to. <<--Key words "Used to"! Also there is no option for built in navigation. It depends solely on your cell phones connection. You lose connection you lose navigation. Also it is not compatible with onstar. Even with the maestro we have ZERO compatibility with onstar. This is contrary to kenwoods advertising. So clearly kenwood is taking the cheap road with this unit and I would recommend avoiding it unless you just like wasting your time with disappointment. It got two stars because this boat anchor does look impressive.
Pros: Beautiful Display, Clean sound, Android Auto Works well
Cons: Buggy menus, very limited app options, wifi is spotty at best, apple carplay does not work well, Radio keeps freezing, Expensive for the poor quality, Menu is poorly laid out compared to alpine and cheaper brands

Had The Features I Was Looking For
Stephen from Houston, TX on 3/25/2021
2006 Dodge Ram 2500
I purchased this unit for 2 reasons: I wanted wireless Android Auto and I wanted a true volume knob. This was literally the only one I could find that had those two features. Luckily it worked out that the rest of the features were pretty great, too. The only issue I had was the Android Auto. Regardless of if I was tethered via USB or wireless, it would just quit working. It turned out that I needed to go into my phone settings (Galaxy S20) and tell it not to put Android Auto to sleep. It was trying to conserve power and making the connection drop. After that the system has worked flawlessly. There is a delay after initial startup, but it's not bad. I have a diesel truck so I need to wait around anyway. I took away one star because of the price, the fact that the screen shows fingerprints terribly and there is no way to see the map and the current music being played at the same time.
Pros: Wireless Android Auto Physical Volume Knob Huge Screen Multiple Camera Inputs
Cons: Price Touchscreen Fingerprints No Way to See Navigation and Music at the Same Time

Complicated but worth it.
Crutchfield customer from Alpharetta, GA on 2/21/2021

Started out with a Alpine iLX-F411 and could not get the phone volume loud enough or my iPhone contacts to download. I liked the screen and the features, but the volume was a deal breaker. I bought the Kenwood and installing it was fairly straight forward since I had learned the basics with the Alpine. The screen, although smaller, is actually a higher resolution and looks fantastic. The interface is more complicated, especially all the sound settings, but once you get through that, the sound quality is great. I thought I needed a volume knob, but I find I rarely use it. The volume is either on or off. The Apple CarPlay works flawlessly, both wired and wireless. The wiring harness is challenging with the Maestro RR interface, but Mike from Crutchfield was able to get me all the information I needed and I could not have done it without him. I recommend soldering all the wires instead of using mechanical connections. The connections and harnesses are a bit overwhelming at first, just take your time and use the color coded wiring diagrams to get it correct. Finding a HDMI cable that fits in the tiny recessed opening was a challenge, but another retailer had one and it works flawlessly. The Metro mounting system was a joke; the plastic mounts do not hold the radio and fortunately the metal Toyota original was a direct fit and it is locked in solid now. The only thing I used was the bezel, which works well. Great radio and am very happy I spend the extra $$ for it.
Pros: Beautiful screen Lots of audio settings to play with. Apple CarPlay works flawlessly. Once you get it all hooked up correctly, it is nice to have all features.
Cons: Complicated wiring harness interface with the Maestro RR system. Lots of unused cables and connectors. You feel like you forgot to do something...

I have owned the DDX9906XR for over a year, which is the 6.8" version and it's by far the best head unit I've every owed. What I like the most about the DMX1057XR is just like the 9906XR, which is polarized sunglasses work with this display, no lifting my glasses to see the screen. Beautiful display, easy to read and using wireless connection to my iPhone spoils me. Great sound, makes for an excellent front sound stage in my wife's Toyota Sienna using factory speakers.
Pros: Great display, vivid colors, works with sunglasses.
Cons: It's big, sometimes it is too much light at night but I'm getting used to it.

What can I say? It's a beautiful HU and it sounds fantastic! This is my second Kenwood HU. I only gave it 4 stars because I have been getting random re-boots. I have yet to notice a pattern and it's infrequent. I have gone through the wiring harness twice, re-flashed my RR, and initialized the radio. Unfortunately, I am still getting the re-boots. There isn't much info on the web about it and Kenwood's website isn't much help. At this point I am hoping that a firmware update will fix the issue. Luckily this HU has a two year warranty so if I can't get this resolved I'll see about getting it swapped. The re-boots may seem minor, but at this price point I just can't accept it...

2016 Toyota Yaris
Overall works excellent, only problem is when I use the idatalink maestro TO1 kit to install to my 2016 Toyota Yaris, the whole system will stays on even if you removed the key from ignition, and key fob will not function because the car is still on accessory mode, I have to cut the red wire from the 3p connector from the maestro module and problem was fixed. Another problem was the HDMI input hole was too small, and I can't use a HDMI function with a monster cable HDMI cable, I believe it only compatible with the kenwood one.
Pros: Support many functions and works with the N520 dash cam.
Cons: Maestro issue, HDMI issue, dash cam not as high definition as advertised.

Great options for adjustments also, now I plan to ad speakers amp and sub.

Great set.. 2nd Gen Tundra have to be fully retracted (the way it comes in the box) don't even remove the little caps in the front. This will save u at least a couple hours of installing and reinstalling. Wireless android auto and carplay is the sh#%t. Screen clarity 2nf to none. Screen mirroring was a bonus, YouTube and TV sweet. Watch 5star install video on YouTube b4 u install, some great tips. They have 3 videos + a bonus video. Watch them all. I found it easier to put everything together outside then bring the entire assembly into the car. This was a recommended by 5 star and it works.
Pros: Screen Clarity Seamless wireless
Cons: Tough to test fit without fully installing

2019 Toyota 4Runner
What a great head unit! I was concerned about how this would fit in my 2019 5th Gen 4Runner and if it would block the vents, but it fit great considering it size and only blocks about 10% of the vents and it centered perfectly using the OEM radio mounts. It has a fantastic HD screen with almost no glare and very intuitive controls. With apple car play, I got rid of the ipad I was using for Wase and the Gaia GPS app.Using the connection to the OBD2 port, I can read my tire pressure and even read and clear fault codes (my gas cap was loose and I threw a code the day after install so no scan tool needed). It's all around just a fantastic head unit, but for me, using my truck off-road all the time, having the ability to have 4 camera inputs is a game changer. I installed the Kenwood CMOS-720HD on the front of my rig to take advantage of the HD screen and the results are stunning. Thanks to the ability of the DMX1057XR to mirror the cameras the installation was a breeze. Side cameras are next, so I can keep an eye on my rock sliders and tire placement! Overall I love this head unit. From the factory Entune unit to the DMX1057RX is a giant leap. I'm sure that beyond the fantastic sound quality, the vibrant HD touch screen and all of the tools that Kenwood has built into this head unit that it will serve me well for years to come.

This is the first aftermarket radio I had in a long time.... And the first I installed myself! The screen is fantastic. And the unit has no lag. I have it integrated with the maestro so I can get info from my toyota sequoia, like toms readings. If your are looking for a great radio and a super sized screen.... This is a great choice. Plus.... You get waze with Android auto!!!
Pros: Great screen
Cons: Hard to test as you need to mount the screen.

This was my first car stereo install. You're basically buying this unit for the large display and Carplay so it serves that purpose well, but for that the cost is too high and I expect pricing to drop dramatically once there are several other competitive options available. Unfortunately the native Kenwood UI is still super basic and frankly, archaic compared to Apple Carplay or other good modern phone apps. I really hope the quality/longevity of the hardware and subcomponents will justify the price. I also bought Maestro, Maestro T wiring harness, Kenwood 230 camera, Sirius SXVC300 tuner and recommended Metra mounting kit. This was my first install - recommend reading wiring instructions first and buy the Posi-connectors if you have to make connections between Maestro wiring harness and radio harness - I did :). All of this leads to a massive jumble of wires/modules that need to get stuffed into a very small space behind radio. For the high price and size of the radio, I think some of the 3rd party integration (Maestro module, Sirius tuner, etc.) should just be integrated as a software/firmware update and physical connections on the head unit to greatly simplify the complexity. The plastic Metra mounting kit recommended by Crutchfield is suspect for holding such a large, heavy unit. Noticeable, instant improvement in sound quality over OEM. Crutchfield tech support during the install was outstanding, called twice and spoke to actual experienced installers both times.
Pros: Large, high quality display Carplay Sound quality
Cons: Display sits further from dash than it should Native Kenwood user interface is basic/still 5yrs behind Cost Limited functionality / value from Maestro

I've had this unit for about a week upon writing this review. And I love it. I found installing into my 2012 Traverse a little different and slightly more challenging than past car stereos I've done myself over the years. But I figured it out. The sound is great and currently I still have the factory Bose sound system in my car. It's by far the best and most costly car stereo I've ever own. I give it 10 stars if I could.
Pros:
Cons: Only thing I dislike is the first screen you see when you first turn the car on that warns you about operating the radio when the car is in motion. It's a car radio. It's gonna happen. Get it off my screen.

I can finally read my maps!
Nick from Phoenix, AZ on 9/29/2020
Really like having a bigger screen! Two drawbacks so far - the bezel surround is pretty wide on all sides, making the display itself quite a bit larger than it needs to be. Also, the rendering of e.g. Android Auto is still the same, meaning larger navigation boxes and bottom menu. AA could stand to shrink the rendering of those items on larger screens so you get more field of view in maps. Installation was fairly straightforward, just a few more wires than my previous Kenwood unit so I had to install a new idatalink pigtail. The display sits a bit further from the dash than I'd like. I suppose I could change the mount, but then there'd be a large gap between the dash fascia and the main unit. Other than that - great sound settings, and the UI is pretty classic Kenwood - easy to navigate and find the settings you need. Wireless AA starts up within 10s of hitting the icon, usually about 20-25s after ignition until I have AA loaded on my screen. No AA autolaunch, unfortunately. Have not tried CarPlay yet.
Pros: Large screen size, fast startup for Android Auto, nice UI, expansive sound settings
Cons: Large bezel surround, no autolaunch for Android Auto.
