Awesome RV Sound and Nav System

Kenwood knocked it out of the park with this model (DNR1008RVS). From screen size to ease of use flipping from the Garmin GPS to audio sound no problem. I use CarPlay and with just a few Bluetooth steps I was connected with my phone wirelessly. The screen is vibrant clear which makes viewing my backup/ side view cameras an ease. The Garmin GPS connects to satellites quickly with the touchscreen and has a color map display. This model Garmin has a setup page for your RV/truck info, (height, length, weight) to help keep you on acceptable roads. I replaced a solid Pioneer double din factory installed by Winnebago on my 2015 Sightseer RV, but the screen was small for camera view, and it didn't have Carplay or any navigation system. I took the $$ leap and put down the cash on this Kenwood. Since Kenwood and Pioneer use similar wire colors it was a breeze to install. I have a pin kit so instead of cutting and splicing I made pin ends for the Kenwood and Shazam I have plug and play wires for a clean installation. There is one step that I could not find with the paper instructions about removing a hard plastic protective piece that's on the back, I assume to protect during shipping. Without that removed the radio did not turn on, but thanks to a YouTube video I found the step, removed it and it came to life. The Kenwood iPhone app gives me a remote a nice feature to turn up/down sound when parked with the RV and chilling to 80s Rock! Kenwood delivered on this one!

Great sound, easy navigation

The Kenwood DNR1008RVS navigation receiver seems to be a high-quality unit. It installed nicely, reusing mounting hardware that was originally in my Class A RV. The screen is just the right size. The configuration of the unit is intuitive. The navigation side took the vehicle specifications nicely and interface for navigation is easy to use. The audio side allowed me to make all the fine-tuning adjustments I could need, starting with general vehicle speaker locations and soundstage, to specific crossover, equalization, effects, enhancement, and volume offset. The sound is amazing. I recommend this model to RVers (and truckers).

Good screen, Good sound, average GPS

When buying it, I thought I would have access to traffic. It wasn't clear that Inrix discontinued. So, AFTER it was bought, shipped and installed, I went to subscribe to traffic services, and I learned traffic services were discontinued. No matter what RV GPS system you buy, they disappoint as a navigation system compared to your Google maps (i know, Google has millions of users providing real time feedback). But what Google misses are the dimensions of my RV and navigation around bridge and overpass restrictions. It's a no win proposition. Work carefully with your installer. All of the advertised options (Microphone, USB, etc...) are in the BACK of your unit and inaccessible after you install. On the plus side, it does Apple play well, has a good display and good sound. For the price ($1500 without installation), I had hoped for better. DO YOUR RESEARCH. If i thought there was a better solution for RV, I would recommend it, but I think this is where things stand.

Kenwood DNR1008RVS

Great radio. Installed in my Class RV and it is a great upgrade from the factory model. The install was much easier than I was anticipating. We did our first travel and the gps/nav system did good. I found an info screen that shows a lot of data points on both a Trip A and a Trip B. LOVING the 10" screen!!! I highly recommend this KENWOOD radio with nav built in.

Outstanding Solution for a RV

The new radio/nav works awesome! The Crutchfield team was outstanding. They helped me narrow down my choices and helped resolve some odd wiring differences as I was installing it into a Thor Chateau Motorhome. Don't regret this upgrade.

My Thoughts

For the price I expected a lot more features. It will not connect to my Apple Car Play wirelessly. It will connect with a cable. Installation was straightforward. I installed this in a 2017 Monaco Diplomat.

I can see the screen!

I purchased this unit to replace an older Clarion navigation receiver in my motorhome that no longer had any support and was becoming "buggy". Also wanted a big screen for easier reading. Wanted RV-specific navigation which this unit has. According to Crutchfield this unit won't fit a Freightliner M2, but it did fit just fine. Just learning all its features, but (so far) everything going well. I did the installation and wiring myself, not difficult but it is time consuming. The wiring adapter Crutchfield supplied did take care of constant power, acc power, ground, and dash speakers, but all other connections I had to do. I noticed immediately that it acquires the GPS signals much more quickly than my previous unit did. And it was easy to enter my rig's parameters, hopefully it will keep me out of trouble!

ANDROID AUTO DOES NOT WORK!!!

Crutchfield said this was a fit for my 2014 F-150. It was easy enough to install and I loved the huge screen, until I realized this unit is designed for an RV and the AndroidAuto mapping feature is disabled. This was the PRIMARY reason I purchased a new unit. For the amount of money I paid for this unit, I am entirely displeased with it's functionality and design.

We're sorry that this Kenwood receiver doesn't offer the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto navigation features that this customer wanted. Because this receiver is made for Recreational Vehicles (RVs), Kenwood removed the CarPlay and Android Auto navigation app capabilities on this receiver in March 2023, because these apps don't take vehicle size and specific routing information into account for the most accurate data, like this receiver's built-in Garmin navigation does. We have this information listed on our web presentation for this receiver. One of Crutchfield's Tech Support gurus, AJ, contacted this customer to explain the situation.

Bought it for motor coach fits well and is going to be an upgrade on all ways added couple different options to it and worked out great. Camera option works nice on big screen and easy to navigate..

An expensive upgrade - 3 steps forward / 1 step back

I upgraded from previous 2018 Kenwood model to DNR1008RVS mostly because of the larger screen and better version of Garmin Navigation - and both are fantastic. Install was super simple (I got lucky as my old wiring harness, Kenwood camera, microphone, and XM Receiver plugged right into the 1008 with no need for any additional work). However I'm only marginally satisfied with the other "upgrades" as I expected a newer model to at least have the same features an earlier Kenwood model. There is no longer HD Radio, fewer widgets, the ability to have custom wallpaper via a USB Drive has been replaced with a mobile app (that doesn't work), and the documentation remains confusing - completely leaving out instructions for some of their features, like integration with radar detectors, zero information on how to setup INRIX (or even how it works), how to access the widgets (had to find a YouTube video), or which iOS apps I needed to make certain functions work. I was also disappointed their most expensive model didn't support their Weblink functionality or Device Mirroring - which was my fault because it's clearly not listed as a feature and I guess I knew this going into the purchase. Bottom line - upgrading from an older Kenwood DNX996XR to this DNR1008RVS is 3 steps forward and 1 step backwards. I'm gonna keep it, but it was an expensive "upgrade"

Great Head Unit.

This thing is nice. The only bug I have about it is the Garmin nav resets your zoom level every time. Maybe there is a setting for it, but I haven't found it just yet. So many ways you can customize this thing. Button color, eq's, everything. Screen is super responsive. Easy to work through. Definitely a nice unit.

Very nice unit. Impressive after installed. Installation was tricky as it was in a Class C on a Mercedes chassis. Once installed though, really nice to have.

Exelente equipo pero muy caro-Excellent equipment but expensive

Muy buen producto el único problema es que el precio es muy elevado y tiene que comprar cámaras y todo por separado. Great product but the only problem is the elevated price, and you must buy cameras separately.

I found this Kenwood DNR1008RVS to an awesome addition to my motorhome, the installation was very straight forward, the navigation by Garmin is just like to add on unit I had before just all wrapped up in a entertainment center with a 10" screen

Super RV nav/audio system

This is a great nav/audio system for our RV. We purchased the HD rear camera and the dash cam recommended by Crutchfield. I already had two side view cameras and all the integration with all four went well. Integration with the cell phone and SiriusXM was also seamless. The sound is very good even through the factory installed speakers. We originally thought about the 1007 but we are super happy that we went with this bigger screen. Tech team was a great help on a tech question regarding installation in the vehicle. No way to go wrong with this choice.

DNR1008RVS will fir 2018 Ford Transit

I went to the Crutchfield site to see if a DNR1008RVS would fit in my 2018 Ford Transit 250 Van with the high roof. I received a message saying "We can't determine fit in your Ford". I had a Kenwood DNX994S in the van previously. I did not install the DNX994S so I don't know what dash kit was used. There was no modification to the dash that I could see. The new DNR1008RVS went in perfectly. There was no modification to my dash except to put 2 holes (with rubber grommets installed) for the GPS antennae and the USB drive to come out of the top cover over the radio.
