As far as music, Kenwood loaded this receiver up with controls for Pandora®, or you can add satellite radio for the longest road trips. There's even a front USB port to charge and play music from your iPhone® or slap in a USB drive filled with high-res music. Kenwood backs up this receiver with a 2-year warranty.

Kenwood also added a little fun to audio streaming with their Music Mix feature — pair five phones so everybody can pick their tunes for the ultimate road trip playlist. Bluetooth also lets you control this stereo directly from your iPhone® or Android™ phone by downloading Kenwood's free Remote app.

Lots of music options

Equalizer: The Kenwood Excelon DPX594BT offers 8 EQ Presets for easy adjustment, a 3-band Easy EQ, a 13-band Manual EQ for customized tuning, a Drive EQ mode to overcome road noise, and a Stage EQ for better imaging. Separate EQ settings and EQ presets can be stored for each source or you can apply one EQ preset or curve to all sources.

  • Preset EQ: The integrated equalizer offers 8 preset sound modes (Rock, Pops, Easy, Top 40, Jazz, Natural, Drive EQ, or User) suitable for the music genre of your choice.
  • Easy EQ: The Easy EQ allows you to manually adjust the receiver Bass, Midrange, and Treble from 9dB to +9dB.
  • 13-Band EQ: The 13-Band EQ consits of 62.5Hz, 100Hz, 160Hz, 250Hz, 400Hz, 630Hz, 1kHz, 1.6kHz, 2.5kHz, 4kHz, 6.3kHz, 10kHz, & 16kHz frequencies that can be adjusted from -9dB to +9 dB. The Q-factor of each frequency can also be adjusted to 1.35, 1.5, or 2.0
  • Drive EQ: The Drive EQ mode helps you hear your music over road noise. It boosts certain frequency ranges that become hard to hear due to road noise.
  • Stage EQ: Stage EQ virtually lifts the sound up to ear-level for better imaging inside your vehicle.

Audio Settings: The Kenwood Excelon DPX594BT offers a variety of audio settings to further enhance your music listening experience.

  • Sound Reconstruction: When MP3, WMA, AAC files encoded at a low bit rate (less than 96 kbps, 44.1k, 48kHz) are played, the Sound Reconstruction function restores their high frequencies so the sound quality is closer to files encoded at a high bit rate. The processing is optimized for the compression format and the bit rate used. When Sound Reconstruction is Off, the unit plays the original sound stored in the audio file.
  • Space Enhancer & Sound Realizer: The Spacer Enhancer widens the soundstage inside your vehicle, while the Sound Realizer makes your music sound more realistic.
  • Loudness, Bass Boost & Bass Extension: The Loudness feature boosts low and high frequencies to produce a well-balanced sound at a low volume level. The unit's Bass Boost enhances low bass frequencies at any volume level. There is also a Bass Extension feature which further enhances the unit's bass output at extremely low frequencies around 62.5Hz.
  • Volume Offset: The level of each source may be independently adjusted to prevent radical leaps in output volume when switching from one source to another. The available settings range from -15 to +6.

Key Beep: The in-dash head unit provides an audible beep to confirm button operation. This function can be turned On or Off.

Remote Control

Kenwood Remote App (for iOS & Android): The Kenwood Remote App (for Apple iOS 8.0+ and Android OS 4.4+) lets you wirelessly control the Kenwood receiver from your compatible Apple iOS device (via Bluetooth or USB) or Android device (via Bluetooth only). The Kenwood Remote App provides traditional touchscreen control, as well as directional and freeform gesture control from your compatible mobile device.

  • Source Information & Control: The Kenwood Remote App provides a Source Control screen with a list of the receiver's built-in sources and connected sources to choose from, so you can change the head unit's source from your mobile device. Once an input is selected, the app displays source information such as station number, track number & playback time, as well as song/artist information (when applicable). From the the app, you can also seek stations and tracks, as well as Play and Pause your music.
  • Audio Settings: From the application on your mobile device, you can adjust the receiver's volume up or down. In addition, audio settings such as EQ, Crossover, DTA, and other audio adjustments can be easily set using the Kenwood Remote application.
  • Media Player: The application's Media Player screen lets you playback your device's stored music library through the Kenwood receiver. From the app on your Apple iOS or Android device, you can control basic playback functions like Play/Pause, Previous/Next Track and Repeat/Random. The Android version of the app even lets you browse your music library by category (Song/Album/Artist/Playlist/Mood). Song, artist, and album information (along with Album Art) will displayed on your Apple iOS or Android device's touchscreen.
  • App Launcher (Android only): The App Launcher feature of the Android version of the Kenwood Remote app lets you access 3rd party applications within the Kenwood Remote app's user interface. The App Launcher can contain up to 24 of your favorite apps for quick access.
Notes:
  • You will need to indicate within the head unit's menu what type of device (Apple iOS or Android) you'll be using the Kenwood Remote App on before the application will connect and function with the receiver.
  • When using the Kenwood Remote App with your compatible Apple iOS device, the application and device must be connected to the receiver via Bluetooth (not USB) for playback of Bluetooth audio. For playback of a USB-direct connection from an Apple iOS device, the device and application must be connected to the head unit via USB (not Bluetooth).

Steering Wheel Remote Compatibility: The head unit features an OEM steering wheel remote control input wire (blue/yellow) within the included wiring harness that lets you keep your vehicle's factory radio steering wheel remote controls when used with an optional steering wheel control adapter (vehicle specific and sold separately).

Optional IR Remote: The DPX594BT is compatible with Kenwood's IR remote control (RC-406, sold separately) for wireless operation of the receiver.

The clock is only displayed when selected and does not display simultaneously with song/artist or station information. The day & time can be selected to remain on, even if the head unit is switched off (as long as the vehicle's key is in the "accessory" or "on" position).

A
If the unit is shut off while USB is playing, the next time the unit is powered on, playback will resume from the point where it left off. This is also the case if you switch to a different source and then back to USB.

Q
Difference Kenwood Excelon DPX594BT vs Kenwood Excelon DPX594BH?
john r  Nov 15, 2022
1 answer
A
These are two very similar radios, John. In fact, the printed specs are nearly identical. You can expect a better build quality internally on the DPX795BH. If the Kenwood is the source for a multi-amp and sub setup, you'll see a slightly improved sound quality over the DPX594BT. If you are looking for the same core features, these two units are nearly identical! I hope this helps John.

Turn off outside speakers on dpx594bt?
al  Aug 25, 2022
1 answer
A
Greetings Al, and thank you for your question. The Kenwood DPX594BT does not have the ability to turn off speakers. What you can do is use the fader. All the way to one side will have that set of speakers play sound, and the other speakers not. Technically they are still on, just not getting a signal.

Q
With music on a mini USB flash drive, and each song (approximately 1500) in the main directory (no subdirectories or folders), occasionally the device will play the next song w/o finishing the first. Any thoughts as to why and a possible solution? Thank you
randy  Jul 03, 2022
2 answers
A
This sounds to be more of a thumbdrive issue in this case. Try moving your songs to a different brand flash drive. In some cases it just comes down to the flash drive itself. Also if you bought your Kenwood from us, give our tech support a call and we'll be happy to troubleshoot with you! The tech support phone number can be found on your invoice or by logging into your account and accessing the orders tab.
allison  Jul 03, 2022 (Staff)
A
That sure is frustrating, Randy. That could potentially just be a rare, random issue. It could also be a problem with the way that the USB drive is being read by the Kenwood. You might try organizing your USB music in a file structure, to see if there is any change in the playback. Kenwood actually recommends a USB File Structure When Playing Music by USB. Per Kenwood, The best way to organize files in a USB drive for Kenwood to read it properly is as follows: 1st level (root folder) - Maximum 8 folders 2nd level - Maximum of 999 folders 3rd level - Only music tracks, no additional sub folders compatible. It's possibly this may help the radio read the USB data better, I hope this helps!

Q
Will this radio work in 2003 Accord and will it show climate controls like factory radio?
robert  Jun 25, 2020
2 answers
A
Car stereos with flip-out monitors may not work with the kit, which mounts the stereo below the factory radio. If the factory radio is disconnected from battery power, you'll need the factory radio security code (available from your dealership) to reactivate your radio. You will need the factory radio security code - available from your dealership - if you disconnect the battery or re-install your factory radio. You have two options for installing a new car stereo in this vehicle. One kit fits in the factory radio location, and includes new climate controls. The other kit puts the new radio in the pocket below the factory radio, keeping the factory radio and climate controls in their current locations. When you replace the factory radio, you'll lose your factory satellite radio capability. The dash kit replaces the pocket below the factory radio. Factory heater controls are retained. The dash and wiring kit includes a wiring adapter that connects to both the factory climate control center and your new receiver.
kenneth  Jun 26, 2020
A
The unit you are asking about should work in your Accord with the correct installation kit. I do not believe it will display climate information (ie: temperature)........... I installed one in my 2003 Tundra with the model specific install kit and it fit perfectly, looks factory. The unit works perfectly and sounds much better than the stock radio/tape/CD player combo. There is a bit of a learning curve to negotiate for operating the thing I must say.............DPR

Replacing the stock unit in a 2008 Jeep Patriot. Do I need a special adapter or wiring harness to maintain Front To Rear speaker fading?

I regret that I am not an expert in this but I would think that the compatible hook-up harnesses that you should get with the Excelon (which are specific for your Jeep) would work. I have not yet installed my Excelon in my Pathfinder so I really don't know for sure. I'm guessing that everything will work just fine.

You will have to order that seperately

I'm assuming you are referring to the ReadyHarness service. If you will be using a steering wheel adapter, two or three wires may still need to be spliced, depending on your vehicle. Otherwise, no splicing required.

Buy the ready made harness and you will not have to splice

When I purchased my CD player I got the I ordered the ready harness with it. So all i had to do was plug it in. If you just buy the unit without the ready harness you will have to splice
