Open the motorized, drop-down 3D MASK control panel of Kenwood's KDC-722 CD receiver to reveal the large, vibrant dot-matrix display. The control panel has four positioning angles for easy access and viewing. A handy rotary volume control makes for easy adjustment of volume and system settings.

The KDC-722 will rock you with its 22-watt RMS 4-way high power. And you can rely on System Q Sound Control to whip that power into great sound, with six preset tone curves and three tone controls (treble, midrange, and bass). Match the receiver's output to the size and type of speakers in your vehicle with the Mobile Preset function for optimized performance.

As for options, they're all there. You get SIRIUS Satellite Radio controls and controls for a CD changer or Kenwood Music Keg. Two sets of preamp outputs allow you to add more power to your system by connecting external amps. One set of preamp outputs can be used for full-range signal output or low-pass only output for a subwoofer.

Features

3D MASK: The KDC-722 features the 3D MASK 2-piece control and display system. It has a motorized fold-out control panel, and an extra-large high-resolution color display with dot-matrix graphics. The angle of the display panel and the control panel can be adjusted for maximum visibility and convenience. The display panel also includes Soft-Key controls for several menu functions. When accessory power to the unit is turned off, the control panel folds up to reveal a plain black panel. For additional security, the back part of the control panel is detachable. Note: When a disc is being loaded/unloaded, the control panel protrudes nearly 4". Please make sure you provide enough clearance in front of the receiver for loading and unloading discs.

Multi-Function Key System: The radio preset keys (2-5) also double as multi-function "soft key" controls. The lower portion of the display shows the function of the soft key directly below it. The main soft key functions include Audio, Display and Panel controls. Once the main function is chosen, another set of functions is revealed. Preset 6 also doubles as a "return" key, allowing you to go back to the main soft key menu.

Integrated Quad 1-bit D/A Converters:  This unit is equipped with four Digital-to-Analog converters, two for each channel, which improve playback sound quality, musical detail and resolution. Using two D/A converters for each channel cuts distortion by half.

System Q Sound Control: Six EQ curves are preset into memory, allowing you to recall the best preset EQ curve for different types of music. The preset curves are named "Flat", "Rock", "Pops", "Easy", "Top 40", and "Jazz". In addition, you may store your own settings under the "User Memory" EQ curve. Each preset has its own bass, middle, and treble level settings.

Speaker Settings: The Speaker Setting function tailors the System Q Sound Control settings according to the type of speakers in your vehicle. You may select a Speaker Setting of "SP OFF" (flat), "SP O.E.M." (for OEM factory speaker systems), "SP 6*9/6inch (for systems with 6" and 6"x9" speakers), or "SP 5/4inch" (for systems with 4" and 5" speakers).

High Pass Filter: The KDC-722 has an adjustable 12dB/octave high-pass filter for the front and rear channels; the filter affects the signals passed by the speaker and preamp level outputs. You can choose the cutoff frequency from 100Hz, 125Hz, 170Hz or Thru (no filter). Note: The high pass filter only affects the rear preamp outputs when they are switched to "rear", not "non-fading".

Switchable Rear/Non-Fading Preamp Outputs: You can switch the rear preamp output to a non-fading output for use with subwoofer amps. Once in the non-fading mode, you can adjust the level of that output from -15 to +15 in 2dB steps. In addition, you can choose the cutoff frequency of the NF output's 12dB/octave low-pass filter from 50Hz, 80Hz, 120Hz or Thru (no filter).

Built-in Amplifier Mute: If this unit's internal amplifier is not being used, it can be switched off to enhance the quality of the preamp output signal quality.

Sirius Satellite Radio Controls: This unit can control the optional Kenwood Sirius Satellite tuner (item #113SR901). In addition to the Sirius tuner, you will need an antenna and subscription in order to receive Sirius Satellite Radio programming. The Kenwood Sirius radio tuner has a CD-changer pass-through, allowing the connection of an optional Kenwood CD changer in addition to the Sirius tuner with only one connection to the head unit.

HD Radio Ready: The KDC-722 is HD Radio ready. With an optional HD Radio tuner (113HR100TR), you will be able to receive digital AM/FM broadcasts from local stations where available. This new technology will significantly improve audio quality and reception, as well as include information such as artist name and song titles or traffic news, viewable on the receiver's display. Note: As of 3/1/03, HD Radio is to be introduced in the top 40 U.S. metropolitan markets during the second quarter of the year.

Auxiliary Input "Ready": When used with an optional adapter, this unit can accept input from an auxiliary source. When the CA-C1AUX adapter (item 113CAC1AX) is used, you cannot connect a CD changer to the head unit because the adapter plugs into the DIN changer control connection on the head unit. When the KCA-S210A 2-changer switch (item 113KCAS210) is used, you can connect a CD changer and an auxiliary audio source at the same time. When an auxiliary audio source is connected, you can choose from one of six names for the source: Aux 1, TV, Video, Game, Portable or DVD.

Security Code: You may program the unit with a 4-digit security code. Once the unit has been programmed with a security code, the code must be entered to use the unit after it has been disconnected from power.

Display Adjustments: You can make contrast adjustments to the display to give you the best visibility. Contrast settings range from 0 to 10 with a factory setting of 5. Also, if you connect the wiring harness' dimmer wire (orange/white) to the vehicle's headlight circuit, the display will automatically dim when the vehicle's lights are turned on. The dimmer function can also be switched off if display dimming is not desired.

Source Tone Memory: This feature allows you to store bass, middle and treble tone settings for each source (CD, FM, AM and Changer).

Attenuator With Smooth Volume Return: This unit's attenuator button allows you to quickly lower the volume by a preset level with the press of a button. When the attenuator button is pressed again, the Smooth Volume Return feature gradually increases the volume to the original level, eliminating the jarring change in volume.

Volume Offset Control: The level of each source may be independently adjusted to prevent radical leaps in output volume when switching from one source to another. The available settings range from -8 to 0.

CR-2 Advanced Tuner: This unit uses Kenwood's CR-2 Advanced tuner for clear radio reception. You can choose one of three tuning modes: Auto 1 (seek tuning), Auto 2 (cycles through and tunes the selected band's preset stations only with each button press), or Manual.

Clean Reception System Circuit (CRSC): This circuit controls multi-path distortion by reducing stereo separation. As stereo separation is reduced, multi-path has less effect on the radio signal, improving reception in areas with tall buildings and mountains. You can turn on/off this feature in the menu.

Direct Access Tuning: When in the Tuner mode, you can directly access a station on the presently tuned band by pressing the Direct button on the remote control and entering the frequency on the remote's number pad.

Station Name Preset (SNPS): This feature allows you to assign names to radio stations. Up to 32 FM stations and 16 AM stations can be named. Each name can be up to 8 characters in length.

CD Naming: The DNPS (Disc Name Preset) feature can be used to enter names, up to 12 characters long, into memory for up to 30 discs. When a CD changer with disc naming memory is connected, names may be entered for CDs in the changer. The number of names that may be entered for discs in a changer depends on the changer model.

Last Position Memory: If the unit is shut off or switched to the tuner mode while a CD is playing, the next time CD is selected as the source, playback will resume from the point where it left off.

EEPROM-coded Detachable Panel: The rear portion of the control panel is detachable for added security. The removable panel contains an EEPROM (Electrically Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory) chip that is coded specifically for the head unit. If the detachable panel is lost or broken, a "blank" replacement is available from Kenwood. When the replacement is attached to the unit, a coding process takes place to code the panel to this head unit. A hard plastic case is included with the unit for storing the detachable panel when removed.

Panel Off Wait Time: If you plan on regularly detaching the rear panel, you can choose in the menu how long you want the motorized faceplate to pause before folding completely closed. You can select a pause of 3, 5, 10, 15, 20 or 25 seconds to give you time to remove the panel. If you normally do not detach the face, you can select 0 seconds pause, and the faceplate will not pause when closing.

Disabled System Indicator: A red indicator will blink on the unit after the back panel of the faceplate is removed, warning potential thieves. This feature can be turned On or Off.

Remote Control: The KDC-722 comes with the RC-505 wireless remote control, a 22-button full-function remote with a 10-key number pad. It is powered by 2 "AA" batteries (supplied). The dimensions of the remote are: L=5.488", W=1.75", D=1.115".

Weather Band Tuner Compatible: This unit is compatible with the Kenwood weather band tuner (item 113WB100). The optional tuner box allows you to tune in weather band radio stations. There are about 480 weather band radio stations in the United States, and this option allows you to tap into the information needed to prepare for outdoor activities such as sporting events, camping trips and days at the park.

Changer Controls

Compatibility: This unit is directly compatible with Kenwood changers manufactured in 1998 or later. If the changer has an O-N switch, the switch will need to be set to the "N" position. If you have a Kenwood changer manufactured before 1998, you will need the KCA-S210A switching adapter. Changers manufactured before 1994 require the CA-DS100 converter cord and the KCA-S210A switching adapter.

Changer Controls: In addition to basic disc navigation features, this unit has the following changer controls: direct disc access (using the remote), direct track access (using the remote), track intro scan, track repeat, disc repeat, disc random, and all disc random.

Disc Name Preset (DNPS): When used with a compatible CD changer, this feature allows you to assign names to discs in the changer. Each name can be up to 8 characters in length. The number of names you can store depends on the CD changer that is connected to the head unit.

Disc Name Preset Play (DNPP): Once a disc has been named, you may press the DNPP button on the remote to display the name of each disc for 5 seconds. When the name of the desired disc appears, you can press the OK button on the remote to select the disc for playback.

CD Text/MD Display: When connected to a CD Text capable CD changer or an MD changer, this unit can display disc and track titles for discs encoded with disc and track title information. The text information can be scrolled manually or automatically.

Music Keg Compatible: The KDC-722 is fully compatible with the Kenwood Music Keg Digital Music System (models KHD-C710 and KHD-CX910).

Note

Display Illumination/Clock Display: When the unit is in Standby mode, the face/button illumination is "keyed". In addition, while the unit is in Standby mode, the Clock Display can be turned on or off using the DISP soft key menu. When the Clock Display is turned on and the unit is in Standby mode, the Clock Display is also "keyed". Pressing and holding the source button turns the unit off completely.
