Love my Kenwood!
Myron from Rego Park, NY on 6/20/2025
1992 Ford Mustang
Has unbelievable sound for a unit this size. My car is a stock 92 Mustang convertible, no amps or subs, and I had to turn the bass settings down off the max. Mids and highs were very good as well. I'm using a mix of 30+ year old Mustang speakers and brand new Kickers in the door with extra sound padding from Crutchfield. Thanks to the staff who helped me with choosing from so many units. The HD won me over as it did for another car years ago.
Pros: Excellent sound!! Even better with HD FM Channels! Tons of control for tone for every type of music style. Looks nice in dash. Adjustable illumination
Cons: Controls are tiny, but that's pretty standard for these units. Instruction Book is very poor so if you have some basic setting and intuition skills , that will be handy. Hard to see in sunshine (but then again isn't that the purpose of a covertible?!)

This stereo is very nice. When I got it installed with new speakers I thought maybe I should have kept the factory system. Then I started using all the tuning options and I was happy I made this purchase. There is so much fine tuning ability with this head unit and it seemed like the sound I was looking for was hidden just waiting to be discovered through all the tuning adjustments. The buttons are a bit small but you can use the KENWOODRemote app which is nice. I'm satisfied. Thank you.
Pros: Great tuning capacity. KENWOODRemote app is helpful.
Cons: The buttons are rather small.

Easy install( I was replacing a KDC 302) into my GMC Sierra 1500---the electrical connector/adapter I'd made up for the KDC302 was a simple plug and play on this KDC705- I really like the HD Tuner--bluetooth connects flawlessly--the head unit was a quick install but it did take me a while to get the equalizer where I wanted it--I imagine I'll be tweaking that a few times in the future but the sound is really awesome--this was a scratch & dent model-Crutchfield shipped fast & they were once again a joy to deal with--Thanks to everyone involved for making it all so easy!.....
Pros: As I said It's a Kenwood & they're the best head units around imo---so everything about it is/sre "Pros".....
Cons: None so far---I hope longevity won't be an issue.....

I'm very pleased with my new radio except, for 2 things. I will have to check the paperwork to see if I can correct them. 1. At night, when I turn on headlights, I'd hope there would be a lit radio display even if it is turned off. Right now, at night I have to turn on the interior light to see the radio if I want to turn it on. 2. For the radio dis-lay, right now what is showing in large font the date and the day of the week; I can barely read the dis-layer time and the current station because that font size is very very small. I think the time should be the biggest feature along with the current station playing. Maybe these can be fixed, I just have not found the way, yet
Pros: Sound improvement over my factory radio

Upside to buying from Crutchfield
Walter from Kekaha, HI on 12/28/2024

I bought these from my cars because I like MP3 music CDs players different forms of media I like these cuz these are one of the last remaining CD players that have all the features of the phone and everything but they also have a five to six volt pre out for the amps and six wires which everybody else only has two volts this makes it much better for connecting external amplifiers and higher output speakers and preamps and the price is right I don't like all this flat screen digital radios as they can break and you got to take your eyes out the road unsafe also I like the fact of having a remote control you can put in your hand while you're driving flip through different songs or different mediums like radio or MP3 or CD so it has a hand control feature but you have to buy that separately through Kenwood parts department most of the new stuff they made today is overpriced junk even Alpine succumb to producing inferior products and what they produce five years ago three years ago I like Crutchfield because the very knowledgeable the warranties are good timely shipping products of fact very nicely they're very friendly and very assistant to your needs I would really seriously tell everybody to if you like CD head units to buy a couple of spares like he's kenwoods because of all the features and the high voltage output because you never know when your radio or CD unit is going to go out and it'll be nice to have a spare and make sure you buy the hardware install kit to fit with y

Love the option to see how to take things apart on my 2004 Honda Civic if needed.
Pros: Many options to tailor your sound, color and other options.

I was looking for a receiver with a CD player for my recently purchased 2006 Tahoe LT. The receiver needed the flexibility to add amps later down the road. This one had all the features I was looking for. Once installed the interface was real easy to maneuver and has lots of features. The Bluetooth works great for streaming music from my phone and making phone calls. I ordered the custom wire kit as well, which made the install easy and retained all my steering controls and OnStar. And this receiver fit without any modification of the vehicle. I am happy with my purchase.

So I decided to try this KDC-X705. This brought my sound back to life. Even the 8" subs I have sound great from the built in crossover. The Bluetooth feature works great. Excellent car stereo. My original radio had started acting oddly plus I wanted to upgrade to a more modern unit with Bluetooth and other features. Installation went smoothly and only had one little hiccup with wiring due to the installation instructions not addressing the subject. (later found a small slip of paper that did address it, but after I had called tech support and got everything going.) I love the sound of this unit as it is very immersive in my old Dodge Dakota SLT. So far, I am very happy with this unit.

This is a really nice unit and in my Fiat 500 was an easy install. It has an attractive fit and finish once installed. The volume and clarity is a big improvement over the factory unit. The cd works great. It has numerous settings but most of them are intuitive and I was able figure out fairly quickly how to set the ones I care about without reading the manual. Layne from Tomah, WI on 4/7/2024

I really like this radio especially at this a price point. I did have a lot of issues getting it out of demo mode however. After speaking with a rep for half an hour, we filed a return. I took the radio into my house after carefully completing all instructions given by tech support. I then connected the radio to a 12v power supply and I was able to take it out of demo mode. The volume button was not registering the click to pull up the menu to shut off demo mode. I disconnected from battery power and performed a factory reset several times. I'm Not sure what my bench supply did for this radio that a key off 12v vehicle could not but I did not have a great install experience for that reason. Overall, if you can get it out of demo mode, you will have a great radio suited for any sound system around or under $10k.
Pros: Sound quality, connectivity, options
Cons: Hard to get to audio adjustment compared to past models. Used 12v bench supply to take off demo mode. No dedicated dsp

I selected this unit because I needed a shallow receiver with a cd player. The frame of these are the shortest of those I've seen. I also needed a unit with the outputs on the left rear of the unit. I have a space constriction in an antique vehicle . It will be several months before it gets installed. I am older and was surprised to find that brick and motor stores no longer have displays that allow testing these type of units. From what I can discern these receivers are all about the same fidelity, the main differences are the features such as hd radio, blue tooth etc. The prices of these are not much different as well, so why not spend a little more and get the best available. The unit itself looks very nice, but I can't comment about the function since I won't install it for months before I can operate it.
Pros: Size of frame position of outputs for subwoofer etc.
Cons: None

Great experience with Crutchfield! The Kenwood product works well. It has quite a few ways to tune it to your vehicle for a very personal listening experience. AM reception isn't very good, thus a missing star. I don't think it's an installation issue since FM and HD radio work well. The old radio AM worked fine. If it is somehow the 24 year old trucks fault I'm sorry and owe Kenwood a star. The reason I chose this radio over others. CD player, Bluetooth, hands free phone, and HD radio all work seamlessly. Kenwood put it all together in a neat package that with Crutchfield's wiring and recommend install kit took 15 minutes to install. If you are planning to upgrade your vehicle's entertainment center and don't check out Crutchfield's inventory you are missing out on great products and a great install experience also. Take their recommendations and buy the kits. You won't miss out on a great Kenwood upgrade either with this sharp looking and great sounding radio.
Pros: Works well and looks good doing it. Feature packed product. Easy install, my Ford took 15 minutes. Cost
Cons: AM radio is weak for me.

Radio good. Manual bad.
David from Ballwin, MO on 1/1/2024
So far the radio is great. However, after I finally found that the owner's manual was only online, I printed all 40 pages. The manual frustrates me. It is not clear on how to set up phone features. It has information about the radio accessing the phone book but no instructions on making that happen even though my phone is capable. The part on setting up the six buttons to dial frequent telephone numbers gives a few steps but I had to stumble on actually entering phone numbers in the section on setting up Sirius XM radio option (that I don't have). The radio sounds and looks good though.
Pros: The radio looks and sounds great.
Cons: The owner's manual leaves much to be desired.

A lot different than my Sony GS820BT Radio. This one has a lot of settings, maybe to much. A lot harder to dial in with all the different settings. Seems like it doesn't have as much power. It is supposed to be 5 volt output, but in reality, it is only 3-4 volts. At top volume,35, which is distorting, it is only 4.98 volts. Between 29 and 35, there is no volume difference and the voltage ranges between 2.8-3.6. I might keep it considering all the rest is 2 volt radios. The USB and CD volume is lower than the radio. Even with the volume offset turned up.

Nice unit, good sound, reasonable price
Kermit from Shreveport, LA on 10/29/2023
1997 BMW Z3
I've had several of these Kenwood units over the years and, in fact, bought this to replace an older unit in a car I just bought. I wanted the HD Radio and my wife wanted to be able to play CDs. My only minor negative is that they slightly changed the connection on the back that connects to their wiring pigtail so that the older connector wouldn't slide it, making me start over from the wiring standpoint. Same number of wires, so a rather useless change as far as I can tell. But beyond that, the unit works and sounds great. Great flexibility on the EQ and even and being able to match the display with the bmw orange in the car is a plus. Controls are logical and easier to use. Display sometimes washes out in direct sun, but most other units do that also. Bluetooth works fine, both for audio and for calls, although often gives an error when using voice command to make a call (from a Samsung S21). A great value at the price.
Pros: HD radio and CDs, easy to adjust display, flexible eq. Better menu system than older units.
Cons: Updated connector in back meant I had to rewire rather than just plug and play from older unit. Voice command often gives errors when paired with S21.

Sound quality is great. HD radio very good. My only disappointment is I'm unable to have my ipod and iphone synced to bluetooth at the same time. From what I'm realizing even though ipods have bluetooth they don't work well togethr with other bluetooth devices. Otherwise great stereo and the Crutchfield people were awesome helping me with it!

Amazing Radio
Randall from Noonan, NB on 9/15/2023
Previously I have always been a Sony guy. Sony traditionally has always had better receivers for frequency sensitivity. Wanted to try HD radio and use a European tuner so ended up getting this radio. I am glad I did. I installed this unit in my 2002 Toyota Celica Panasonic Edition. This is a limited production car. Factory radio display impossible ro see during the day. So I ended up not needed the vehicle fitment kit as reused original one. Need to use the screws from original radio also as ones that come with radio are too short for factory bracket Great display and love the different color options to match my dash. Ran mic through dash behind glove box and up passenger side piller and across to dome light.

I've always used Kenwood Excelon radios. Just such a versatile radio with a ton of options to make your music experience so much better than normal. I have Kicker cx 6 1/2 component speakers up front inside of kick panels, Kicker cx 3way 6x9 in the rear with a Kicker CX360.4 amp and it sounds amazing with this radio. You can never go wrong with Kenwood. I'll never switch up brands and I haven't in over 30yrs. Thanks Kenwood for always putting out a great product.
Pros: 50x4 Built in equalizer. Built in DAC
Cons: None that I have found

Love this Unit
James from Dover, NH on 7/28/2023

Excellent head unit. Replace and old school Eclipse by Fujitsu 10, and this unit sounds as good. Using external amps and component speakers. Chose this unit as I wanted high-voltage pre-amp outputs and a simple-to-use interface. Debated getting the one with/without CD, but decided to keep the old-school option. All mounted in a 1976 Triumph Spitfire.

Exceptional Unit and Customer Service
Crutchfield customer from CHERRYVILLE, NC on 7/20/2023
For the money you can't go wrong with this unit. I have always used Kenwood Excelon units, this new one replaced an old 2003 model that still played the CD player just gave out. This unit is much better, sounds better and customization is better. I am very happy with it, I am using a JL Audio Amp and Sub, with 2003 Kenwood speakers and they sound amazing. I would highly recommend this unit for someone who is still old school and likes CD's I even still listen to Vinyl. It is nice however to have bluetooth to stream my music as well. I have to give a shout out to my friend Lee who I have dealt with for years buying equipment from Crutchfield. His advice is immeasurable and I am thankful he is still there after 30 + years. Thanks Lee for your help as always and rest assure whatever I buy electronic will come from Crutchfield.
Pros: Good customization Excellent sound Easy install Price is great

The stock radio in my car died, and I'm so happy with this "do it all" radio. Syncing with my phone for calls and music, a plug in for SiriusXM, HD radio, and yes, I still play CDs.
Pros: HD Radio - glad this model has it, wish they all did.
Cons: Screen could be brighter in bright daylight, and a light-sensor auto-dim would be nice.

This is a great radio. I gave it four because the instructions are somewhat vague in how to set the time and date.

Cons: Hard to understand how to set the date and time. The station buttons are somewhat small.

Sounds great, really liking the 13 band eq. Looks really nice in my truck. HD tuner has good sound quality but seems to be a little week in the reception, haven't found a local/distance setting anywhere.
Pros: HD radio, RDS, phone use is good.
Cons: HD reception not the best.

2000 Toyota MR2 Spyder
Overall, this HU fits the bill; power is adequate to drive speakers and the sound is relatively clean and accurate. Readability and button ergonomics are decent though positive feeling when pushing buttons could be higher quality. By and large, solid CD receiver for the money. Installation fairly straightforward (granted, I opted for Crutchfield shortcut looms and universal install kit).

The most boring flagship single din on the market.
Eric from Longmont CO on 2/5/2023
It's OK but it's just sooooooo boring of a design. What happened to the x99* line up of single dins. This thing has so many silly, useless functions. The time alignment and individual speaker gains are nice to have, along with tweeter cross over points, but in general this unit is lacking in design horribly. It doesn't dim when you turn your lights on. You can set the dimmer time, but it never works like it should. You can't disable the speaker outs when using only RCAs. Setting the EQ is completely wonky with the extended bass tied to 62.5 hz. Why not just ad a 35hz Setting instead? Anyway, I'd rather go back to my old x997. It's way better than this disappointment of a head unit. I'll be replacing it soon with a pioneer deh-x8800. Seriously what happened to Kenwood? How could anyone let this this pass as a flagship single din? 3 stars is just too generous for this flop considering its supposed to be a top of the line single DIN. Would consider more stars if this was advertised as an x3** or even an x5**
Pros: Tweeter crossovers with individual gain 3 pairs of 5v RCAs Very adjustable crossover points
Cons: Can't turn of speaker line outs Manual time alignment, no auto EQ 1.5 line display is dated and junky No auto dimming App is terrible at best Too many useless functions (sound realizer, space enhance, etc)

Installation Went Smooth
Craig from Salem, OR on 10/5/2022
I am completely satisfied with my purchase. The instructions Crutchfield provided were easy to follow and clearly explained with great photos. I was impressed by how well Crutchfield organized a complete kit with everything I needed and it all worked great with each other. I even got the steering wheel controls to work on the first try. Next I need to install some good speakers to match the quality of this radio. Would definitely recommend Crutchfield to anyone.
Pros: Easy install Perfect easy to understand instructions Everything worked as advertised High quality parts Included everything needed for the install
Cons: Had to come up with a way to tap into factory wiring harness for steering wheel controls. I found some crimp-on pin connectors and was able to plug them into the factory wiring harness without cutting or splicing.

Works as intent. Provides much more power over the factory stereo. Some CDs won't play but other will with no issues. Not sure why. Other than that nice unit. Waiting to add external amplifiers. Would give five start if price was a bit lower and if it came with a remote control.
Pros: Great power over factory stereo Nice design Cd, USB, and Bluetooth options for music. Removable face for security.
Cons: Price No remote
