About the Kenwood KFC-W2505
The Kenwood KFC-W2505 10" subwoofer's "tornado" design isn't just for show the three raised ridges increase the cone's rigidity and dampen unwanted resonances for improved bass clarity. The silver pearl mica-injected polypropylene cone joins with a urethane surround to produce powerful, accurate bass.
This sub won't bottom out when you drive it hard, thanks to its two-layer vented voice coil, vented extended pole piece, and bumped-back plate. The efficient KFC-W2505 is designed for use in sealed or ported enclosures.

Product Research
Woofer: The cone is constructed of silver Pearl Mica Injection-Molded Polypropylene. Uniform pearl mica crystals form an overlapping structure that adds strength and heat resistance to polypropylene; the result is reduced distortion and improved reliability.
Tornado Woofer Cone: The cone is formed with three raised ridges around the circumference of the cone. The width of each ridge is graduated, making a tornado-like appearance. The ridges make the Tornado Cone much more rigid than conventional cones, with resonance frequencies that are more than an octave higher. Additionally, the Tornado Cone's resonance is of a more random nature than those of conventional cones, which reduces their intensity. Since the resonance frequencies are lower in amplitude and far above the woofer's useable frequency range, they are much less audible, resulting in clearer, more detailed bass sound.
Surround Material: The urethane foam surround has very high internal loss, which reduces speaker cone distortion.
Extended Pole Piece: The pole piece has been extended to provide a more linear magnetic field for woofer operation. This lowers distortion and provides the woofer with better low frequency response.
Vented Pole Piece: The vented pole piece allows air to circulate in the voice coil gap; air circulating in the voice coil gap helps dissipate heat and results in greater power handling and increased reliability.
Vented and Bumped Back Plate: The back plate has been stepped deeper to allow the woofer more room for excursion without bottoming out. This enables the speaker to be used in a smaller enclosure. Additionally, the back plate has a vent, which efficiently and quietly circulates cool air around the voice coil. By keeping the voice coil cooler, power handling is improved.
Voice Coil: The two-layer vented voice coil keeps the woofer cooler and is designed for higher power handling.
Gold-plated Speaker Terminals: This sub allows you the ability to connect the speaker wire using quick-slide connectors or spade connectors. The width of the slide terminals are 0.187". To use the spade connectors, there are screw terminals with a maximum of 0.384".
Enclosure Compatibility: This woofer can provide extended bass in sealed and vented enclosures (see below for more information on enclosures).
Recommended Sealed Box Volume: The sealed box sizes recommended by Kenwood range from 0.8 cu/ft to 1.25 cu/ft. Within this range, the ideal size recommended by Kenwood is 1.0 cu/ft, so this is the enclosure recommended by Crutchfield.
Recommended Vented Box Volume: The vented box sizes recommended by Kenwood range from 0.8 cu/ft to 1.5 cu/ft. Within this range, the ideal size recommended by Kenwood is 1.1 cu/ft, so this is the enclosure recommended by Crutchfield. One 3" diameter x 5" long port should be used with a 1.1 cu/ft enclosure.
Power Handling: Although the specifications section of the manual lists two power handling specifications, "RMS Power Handling" and "Peak Power Handling", Kenwood has established "Rated", "Maximum" and "Peak" input power ratings for this woofer. The "Rated" input power spec is equivalent to the "RMS Power Handling" spec listed in the manual, the "Maximum" input power rating is a continuous power handling specification, and the "Peak" input power rating is equal to the "Peak Power Handling" spec listed in the manual. The power ratings are as follows:
- "Rated" input power: 150 watts
- "Maximum" continuous input power: 300 watts
- "Peak" input power: 600 watts
