Features

Crutchfield Wiring Harness: Crutchfield wiring harnesses prevent you from having to cut your vehicle's factory radio plug when replacing your factory radio with an aftermarket head unit. Simply solder or crimp the Crutchfield wiring harness to your aftermarket head unit's harness (solder & crimps not included), plug the aftermarket head unit's plug into the rear chassis of the aftermarket head unit, and plug the Crutchfield wiring harness into your vehicle's factory radio plug.

Note: Installation tools, hardware, & accessories are not included & sold separately. Please see the Accessories tab for recommendations & availability.

Wiring Notes: If the Crutchfield wiring harness is not equipped with a ground wire, you will need to ground the aftermarket head unit's ground wire to the metal chassis of your vehicle. Some vehicle's may require you to bypass the vehicle's factory amplifier (in another location from factory radio) or hardwire certain connections. If your vehicle is equipped with factory steering wheel controls, an additional adapter is required & sold separately.

Harness Location: The factory plug that mates with the Power Harness is located in the factory radio cavity of the vehicle. The factory plug that mates with the Speaker Harness (used to bypass factory amp) is located at the external factory amp location (below the radio, behind the console). The 17' Speaker Harness will need to be plugged into the external factory amp and then run up to your in-dash aftermarket head unit for speaker wire connection.

Note: An additional aftermarket amplifier is recommended if your vehicle is equipped with Front Tweeters, Front Speakers, Rear Speakers, & Factory Subwoofer.

Q
What is the difference between this 70-1728 and the 70-1727 harness? Both are supposed to be an amp bypass harness for 06 Civic EX (and others).

Greetings Hondatech739, and thank you for your question. The 70-1727 has been discontinued over 10 years now. Can it work on the 2006 Civic EX? Possibly, Its since removed from our vehicle guide. The 70-1728 could be the replacement for the 70-1727, by the end of the day because we just have the 70-1728, thats the one to go with for your amp bypass.

Q
If I am using an aftermarket amplifier to power all speakers and do not want to use stock speaker wires can I completely ignore the bypass harness and just connect the power harness?

Not sure if I understand you but if u don't want to use the factory speaker wires are you going to run new wires from your door speakers that seems like a lot of work ? But if u do that then yes u don't have to use the supplied speaker wires with the kit

Q
Does this harness fit a 2008 Honda Civic Si with navigation?

A
It looks like this Metra 70-1728 Amp Bypass Harness would be compatible with the '08 Civic SI (w/ navigation). You can also verify that online by using our Outfit My Car tool: http://www.crutchfield.com/car/carselector.aspx For additional details on installation and/or fitment please contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. Hope that helps!

Q
With the bypass harness, do i just splice into the factory amp harness and leave it plugged into the factory amp or splice into the factory amp harness and leave it unplugged from the factory amp? Never done this before, very confused?

Q
where is the external amp on a 2008 honda civic coupe dx? the instructions said it was in the shifter console but the info I'm getting from the Crutchfield website says it's in the back of the car.

In my 06 EX it is in the center console, but I believe there are some models that it is under the driver's seat I believe.

I remember getting that big bundle of wire that is pictured here, and I still have most of it. I dont recall having to go all the way to the trunk, and we did pop the console. I was wondering my self why there was so much wire with this adapter. Having to only go to the console gave us all that excess. By the way, my son's Civic is an '06 EX. Hope this was some help.

I know in a 2008 Civic Si, the amp is in front of the shifter console below the dash. I don't know about a DX but I would think it's in the same place.
