Causes leaking

These fit fine and work great except they have a major flaw. They do not have the weather baffle that is integral to the factory speaker. I didn't think too much about it and happily used the car for a year with very little rain exposure until it ended up at the dealer for a month waiting for parts due to supply chain issues. When I got it back it was mold city. Dealer replaced carpets and spent hours and hours trying to get the smell out but it will always be there now. I've tried creating baffles myself but they leaked too. Metra should not sell these as is or there should be a giant warning on the package that it will cause your car to leak.

We're sorry to hear about the leaking issue after the installation of your new speakers in your Camaro. Our Vehicle Integration guru, Darren, reviewed this information. In his many years working on vehicle upgrades, he'd never encountered water intrusion due to speaker brackets. They're generally not a point where a water seal should be happening. While we sell thousands of brackets for speaker installation, none of them include foam tape. We do sell foam tape and baffles separately that can certainly be used to seal gaps and products the vehicle and speakers, but this customer's experience is one we hadn't come across.

Recommended Car Specific Mounting Brackets

These mounting brackets were a perfect match to the factory opening for my 2017 Chevy Camaro. They were very easy to install, and no drilling was required.

Metra 82-3017 Speaker Mounting Brackets

Fit like a glove but made with cheap plastic and was broken on arrival. Super glued the one back and it worked fine. Overall, was definitely made to factory specs
