Does NOT fit KENWOOD Radios, specifically 7909S
Crutchfield customer from RICHMOND, VA on 5/2/2023
2003 Toyota 4Runner
Got my radio + install kit and everything else that was included, said everything was going to fit and it didn't, ended up wasting 3 hours of my time fiddling with it and trying to get it to fit and couldn't, even called crutchfield support and they couldn't do much about it. Honestly if you're going to install a radio in your 4runner recommend not going with this dash kit, it could potentially work but needs heavy modification to work.

Does not fit, too much to adjust to make fit.
William from Windsor, CO on 2/21/2023
2004 Toyota 4Runner
Bracket require lots of adjustment and headache to fit proper. The side fillers are too large for the space and don't fit properly. Had to cut and modify to make somewhat useable. This made the brackets useless, and with the amount of adjustment, not worth it. Used the factory bracket and mounted the modified fillers directly to the radio. This took hours to get and acceptable look. I guess the good news is that they were basically free with the full install.

Terrible fit in an '06 with Kenwood
Mike from Englewood, CO on 7/15/2021
Fits terribly.
Pros: The edges roughly match
Cons: As others have said there is heavy modifications needed to make this dash kit fit properly. I'll end up hacking it up to make it look roughly correct. This needs to be replaced with a better fitting product to keep up to Crutchfield's otherwise good standards

product fit great into my 4 runner but had a few hiccups with installation of the kit.. the holes to hang the head unit within the dash kit would not align regardless of position on the new head unit, so I set the unit into the dash and fit/anchored it in with the rest of the dash components due to inability to properly align holes. I will also say that there is limited space to use my volume control dial with this dash kit, which is just a simple design flaw that I plan to dremmel some space for ease of use of the volume dial in the future.
Pros: fit within the 4runner dash
Cons: runs against head unit volume dial and decreases ease of use screw holes did not align properly regardless of orientation

Cheap and flimsy, modifications required to fit 08 Toyota 4Runner
Hubert from Bakersfield, CA on 8/12/2020
2008 Toyota 4Runner
This kit was apparently made for 2003 and 2009 Toyota and Lexus vehicles. I dont think so. I have a 2008 4Runner and the stock radio has a bit of a curve to it. The kit allows for an installation of a new radio that can only be adjusted horizontally (as in slide in/out). Because of the curve, this kit should allow for a small, tilt adjustment, to match that curve. Otherwise, either the bottom of the new deck is either too deep into the kit, or the top portion of the deck will protrude about 1/4 of an inch. I had to use my Dremel to drill and enlarge the existing openings, which took longer than the installation of my new deck. Even after some modifications, Im still not happy how the deck currently sits. I may need to buy another kit, as now I know what needs to be done to make this a better fit.
Pros: The description matches that of my vehicle. Decent price from Crutchfield.
Cons: Im appalled that after years of research Crutchfield actually sells and recommends this product for Toyota vehicles. Cheap and flimsy plastic. Modifications required to fit 2008 4Runner Sport.

Just doesn't fit the factory side bracket holes. Like another reviewer who had the same issues, I just ditched the side brackets and pushed the rectangular trim kit around the headunit. The package I received is labeled as 2003-2009 4runner Limited FYI

Cons: Does not work on a 2005 Sport Edition 4runner

Fit Ok with lots of cutting and trimming
Don from Grand Prairie, TX on 7/3/2018
2003 Toyota 4Runner
Works OK for my Toyota 4Runner with some work. I didn't know anything about this unit as it was suggested as an installation package from Crutchfield. Their plastic mounting bracket does not line up with the existing screw holes. You will have to do some small trim and cut here and there to get it to fit. Even with that, it requires some force to fit in the bezel and ended up cracked one end of the bezel. I would rather go with the Metra version that allowed you to use your existing metal mounting bracket. I would recommend that Crutchfield not to use this kit for the 4runner. If I have to remove my head unit to add something else, I would order the other Metra kit where I can use the existing metal mounting brackets for a sure fit.

My kit came missing the screws for attaching the side brackets to the front trim. I opted to use the steel mounting brackets off the OEM radio and epoxy the trim bezel to the dash trim. The new radio felt better when secured with the OEM brackets.

Final installation is acceptable in my 2005 4Runner, but certainly not a perfect fit. Installation was a real pain and took major modifications with grinding, sawing, and cutting to get the final fit correct. (Modifications were made to the kit not vehicle).

Cons: major modifications needed for proper fit.

Does as it's intended. Downside is that this specific dash kit makes the Sony XAV-AX100 volume knob difficult to easily operate due to the head unit being set back to far.

Metra 95-8210 Dash Kit
Crutchfield customer from Glendale, AZ on 2/1/2018
2003 Toyota 4Runner
This dash kit is just a face plate and two side trim pieces to hold the face plate. However, the two side pieces do not actually align with the head unit mounting bracket so they're pretty much useless. You end up having to just press the face plate against the head unit and hoping that it doesn't fall off when you put the center console trim back on. This dash kit looks awful and the only reason I keep it is because without it I would have two large holes next to the head unit. This kit is absolute garbage.

I had issues with this face plate, as far as the car it fit well and looks good. On the other hand the first head unit I got was a Blaupankt and it would not fit. Not even close.... The second unit I got was a Pioneer MVH-AV290bt, it was close but I did have to shave the plastic to make it fit. The face plate has rounded corners and the radio of course had square corners. After some filing, sanding, and then polishing the plastic again it fits and looks good.

Fits the opening but may not work well with your chosen receiver
JC from Seattle Area, WA on 6/28/2013
First of all, this unit is the best available dash kit for my installation application using Kenwood's new DNN990HD. That being said, it did not fit as shipped and required MAJOR cutting/dremel work to modify it and allow for the faceplate of the Kenwood to rotate freely. I was not planning on needing to do this and felt less than comfortable making these modifications. Ultimately it came out OK but lees than completely satifsied with the ending asthetic result. To Crutchfield's credit, they sent me two additional kits at no cost when I mis-cut the first ones.
Pros: Fit the dash
Cons: May not fit you chosen receiver so investigate this and be prepared for the possibility that you may need to cut/modfy it.

Kit did not fit 2004 SR5 4Runner. Would have required a large amount of trimming to work with factory center bezel. I did not install this kit, and instead decided to use another kit, which did fit.

Not for a 2006SE JBL w/o Nav

This is the metra 95-8210 kit and it didn't fit my 2006 SE with a non-nav JBL/six-disk head unit. I was installing the Kenwood DNX6960 and this kit came free from Crutchfield. The kit brackets mount onto the factory brackets and have little alignment bumps that mate with detents on the factory brackets. Basically, you'd have to be trying to mount the kit brackets wrong. With the kit brackets mounted, three of the four factory bracket holes line up - not a big deal. The problem is that the bezel will not line up with the kit bracket attaching tabs. Not by a long shot. To get this kit to work, you'll need a dremel tool and a flat file to remove a lot of plastic from the back and sides of the bezel. Looks like this kit now has two bad reviews. See my good reviews on the PAC TATO and SWI-JACK that were installed along with the Kenwood.

Big communication problem

Well this looked nice and somewhat installed correctly except it is not compatible with a 4Runner that has OEM nav. So if you choose that you have a JBL and RDS system (which nav models are) then you will notice that this is offered to you. IT WILL NOT FIT YOUR DASH CUTOUT! You will have to find and use the ones that are little side tabs if you can find them in stock. Also this is not a Crutchfield problem all vendors show this to be correct it is just that the companies that make all these trim kits not just this brand do not include nav models in their research. Hope crutchfield does more research and fixes this so its more clear. [Editor's Note: Thanks for bringing this to our attention. We have confirmed that you are correct, and have corrected our database.]
